I think it is cool to create new desserts...but the burger and pigs in a Twinkie just took it to a bizarre and disturbing level.

Impulse remainder/clearance buy. I'll definitely try a few recipes though. They'll be perfect for at-work potlucks, where a sense of humor is appropriate. And I don't expect anyone to want more than a few bites of anything in here. I was happy to see a history/cultural impact essay at the beginning, although short. One major downside is the lack of photos. Convoluted recipes that involve making circus trains or penguins out of Twinkies and frosting have no illustration, while recipes that simply involve glopping everything into a bowl have a full-page, full-color photo. You do get to see the sushi at least. And I'm grateful for the inspiration of using Twinkies in place of ladyfingers for things like trifle and tiramisu, although all the instant pudding has got to go. And one recipe actually uses French Vanilla coffee creamer as an ingredient. I think that's an ever viler notion than the chicken salad or the turkey stuffing/glaze.

So I will admit I LOVE Twinkies, I have to stay away from them in the grocery because if I buy a box I will eat it all in one sitting, no really, I will. So I accidentally stumbled upon this in the library and got all excited, there are some fun and cute recipes I think would be great for a teen program (like a National Twinkie Day program!) at the library, like the Twinkie kabobs, Twinkie sushi and Twinkie Petits Fours. Even the Twinkie Strawberry Shortcake looks like something I would try but the Twinkie Milkshake? UGH...And the Twinkie and Meat section makes me want to throw up, this is where I draw the line, I don't love Twinkies that much...

This book is so gross! I had to put it in the freezer because it gave me nightmares. (Thanks Mom)
Some of the quotes and history are interesting, but seriously this book should probably only be read by Twinkies fanatics or as the perfect distraction for those about to undergo surgery- Chapter 9 Twinkies and Meat- You'll be so consumed with thoughts of, who would serve 'pigs in a twinkie', that you will forget that you haven't eaten in 24 hours or any possible complications with surgery.

Yes, this book exists - I came upon it in the bookstore today. What is more gross than Twinkies and their 3 billion year shelf life? Recipes like Pigs in a Twinkie, Twinkie Lasagna and Twinkie Chicken and Cranberry Salad. The fondant-covered Twinkie wedding cake was pretty amazing in a scary kinda way. I gave it two stars for creativity and for the balls it must have taken to actually print and market this book.

Awesome. The inventiveness of the people who came up with these recipes must know no bounds. They didn't even bother to include the obvious and familiar recipes, like making strawberry shortcake with Twinkies. A must-read for people struggling to gain weight.

I got this at half-price books and couldn't resist. When there is Twinkie Lasagna, Twinkie pancakes and even Twinkie drinks, it makes me want to go out and gain 40 pounds. haha, jk.
