Already hate it. The hero is supposedly a Muslim sultan's heir somewhere in the present day Middle East - but I would have never guessed any of that if I hadn't be told exactly that. Having him say "Allah" a couple of times - almost as an afterthought - is hardly enough to truly show him to be a Muslim sultan's heir somewhere in the present day Middle East. (He basically comes off as a brown skinned American guy who just happens to find himself in a desert. Somewhere. And likes to reference Allah occasionally to remind us all - and possibly himself - that he's Muslim.)

And when he flees home from his murderous half-brother and father's second wife (because of course), what does he take with him? An archery set. Yes, an archery set. Because what better weapon exists in our modern times besides a archery set?

Have you ever looked at a painting and wondered what the world inside it was like? Sower of Dreams is what I’d imagine one of those worlds would be like. The world of Seagem is richly described, gorgeously layered, and troubled when their sea god no longer speaks to them in their dreams.
Princess Daria is both warrior and seer, a woman who knows her own mind. She dreams of a man so different from any she knows. Khan is a man from our world who is on the run for his life. He takes refuge from a sandstorm and is transported to another world, one where the sky is purple and a beautiful princess needs his help.
This fantasy world is beautifully written, every sense described so that you feel transported into the world and its many adventures.

I have read several of Debra's books. This is the first book of hers that wasn't in the Montana Skies or Mail Order Bride series. I am amazed by Debra's writing. It doesn't matter if it's fantasy or a Western the book is great.

It did take me a couple of chapters to get into the book and adjust to a male narrator. Daria and Khan's definitely has my attention and I can't wait to begin the next book.

Debra Holland has created a Fantasy world that makes the reader yearn to find that secret entrance in the desert. Khan, is horrified to hear his half-brother plotting to kill him to obtain his inheritance. Assisted by a long time family employee, he flees to a secret location using a mysterious map. His plan is to hide out long enough to evade his brother then sneak off to another country. Things don't quite go as planned and Khan finds himself (with the help of a mysterious statue) no longer on present-day Earth, but in a completely different world. Daria, is a princess in her world and gifted with what they called their "other sense". She is a seer and has vivid dreams of a mysterious man from another place. She finds herself yearning for this man despite never having really met him. When her kingdom is suddenly attacked by a longtime friendly neighboring kingdom, she too flees for her life. Guided by a mysterious goddess the two come together in an adventure that will have you wanting more. Debra Holland has fun with us by throwing in things like an odd worm-like creature that Khan has to deal with and at a loss for what this thing might be called he gives it a Klingon name. I laughed out loud at that one. Again she uses humor and whimsy when she brings in two creatures that Khan thinks of as "monkey bats". When Khan and Daria finally do meet, the bond created in their dreams becomes real and together they conquer their enemies. I highly recommend reading the entire series. You won't want to leave this fantastic new world.

This Story was well written. At first I didn’t think I was going to enjoy but it drew me in and I was hooked.
Contains some Romance, some violence and no course language.
The narrator he does a good job, given each character their own unique voice. I found his voice deep but slow. Enjoyed it more at a listen speed of 1.2.
I really enjoying the story. Leaving me wondering what’s would happen in next book.
It ends the story well and leads you into the next one.

An epic tale

Two people from two worlds coming together to battle evil. Rich in detail and imagination, can love and the Gods help them to win? On the level of master story tellers Tolkien, Prawn and others to be read again and again!

Ms. Holland is one of my all time favorite authors, fantasy is not really my favorite read. I thought I would give this a try I love this author and have enjoyed her writing style for a long time. As normal for Ms. Holland she soon pulled me in and took me to another place and time. The author paints a story of a new world with god and goddess of a beautiful new place that is painted of many beautiful colors. New animals which will blow your mind some are dangerous that no person would want to encounter along with some new wonderful fun animals that become pets. I adore the monkey bats would love to have one of my own.

The story takes off with one brother hating another so much he wants to kill him. Khan over hears their plans to kill him he goes on the run, with a favorite employee giving him a map to a ruin that he can hold up in until things are safe. What he finds is a whole new world unlike his own and a goddess who has helps him all his travels. The goddess ask only one thing to rebuild her city he takes one look around sees all the broken blow up building in the desert, he thinks to his self this is going to take some time. With that he starts the long trying time of rebuilding a city that has been broken for a long time. He encounters some dangerous animals and must find a way to stay alive along with taking down the beast. He dreams of a beautiful lady and her of him. They fall in love with a dream person never knowing if they will see each other. I really could relate to Khan he is a gentleman who is very caring and giving. He gives so much to the goddess and Daria to keep them both safe as well as the land.

Princess Daria is a lovely strong lady who hunts, fish and can take care of herself for the most part. She will stand with her people to fight if she must, family and friends are important to her. One evil man makes a fool out of his self demanding her hand in marriage. She turns him down he turns the tables on her taking away everything she loves. Now she is on the run trying to find a new place to start over, lonely and alone but for one servant to keep her safe. I thought she was a great character who is strong and will stand up for herself but kind and gentle with her loving ways.

The narration by Noah Michael Levine was great I thought he did a good job in relating the fact with emotion the author wrote. I could see the cities in my mind as he painted the picture with truly beautiful colors. I would enjoy listening to more audios from him. He has a strong deep voice but can give a gentle lady one with even tones. You felt the pain, sorrow and love as he hit the correct emotion for each character. It was a pleasure listening to his voice.

To tell anymore would be to give the story away. I have to say it did take me a little while to get into this audio. It was chapter 11 before the book really took off for me with action, thrills and excitement. The characters names had me a little confused they are so different from what I am use to I had to really focus to keep them apart which would have been different if I had read the book. I felt the plot was outstanding, the different animals added a lot to the story which brought excitement and danger. The characters were great even the evils one you come to feel a little sorry for. It was great seeing the new plants and how they can kill or keep you alive. It truly was a lovely read I look forward to listening to the rest of this series. The author does give you a few pages of the next book which will leave you wanting more. The author gives you a wonder read into a new world that will hook you by the time you have finished this book. If you love fantasy this is one story you will want to add to your collection. If you haven’t tried this type of read and want to give it a try this will make a great start. Just keep in mind it is a little slow until you reach chapter 11 than things really start taking off. Ms. Holland you are still one of the top authors in my book I doubt there is anything you write that I wouldn’t love.

This story is a light romance of Daria and Khan finding each other. The story is slower in the fantasy sense as it presents the problems and solutions with characters working together. This is to thread a relationship for them that is growing stronger. It's a story of finding love, even with all the loss one might have to life through.

The name of the series, Gods' Dream Trilogy, is what I'm looking forward too. With the ending of this book, it feels as there is more to come.

****FULL REVIEW****
*This audiobook was provided by the author, narrator, or publisher at no cost in exchange for an unbiased review, at my request.

Daria is blessed with the strong other sense where she can feel her family, others that think of her, and dream walk. Daria feel's danger awaits her if she goes to the neighboring, friendly country for the kings funeral. Thaddis, the prince now king, has plans for his future and they include Daria. Thaddis will go to the ends of the world to find Daria and fulfill those plans.

Khan over hears his half-brothers' plans of what he's going to do to Khan. Khan follows an old map of the desert to a city of ruins, and a portal to another world. Khan finds a new life on Kimtair, and a woman he could love. When the woman of his dreams shows up, their love could be stopped by his oath to his goddess, those hunting him, and those hunting her before the get to spend time together.

I listened to the audio version of this book. Noah tells the story in the accents and tones of each character. There are Middle Eastern accents present along with higher tones for different characters. The infliction of his voice fits the presence of the characters, such as King Iceros and others. There are dream moments present as it's an important part of Daria's abilities, and Noah narrates it in a softer tone so we know we are in the dream moments. There are emotions that become familiar to each character in his voice. He also yawns and a few additional vocal cues used through the story to bring the moments to life.

Thinking back through the story I realize we get a bit of everything. There's danger in both Daria's and Khan's lives and they have a goal that's not possible for one reason or another. But they also need to save themselves. The beginning feels slow as it sets the stage of the world. The sense that's part of the royal people we see. The sense of dangers and more. Then the dream threads that Daria has that she can visit with others in dreams. Along with meeting of the characters and memories of Indaran, the eldest brother of Daria's that was lost at sea on a mission he chose to go on.

The story is slower in the fantasy sense as it presents the problems and solutions with characters working together. This is to thread a relationship for them that is growing stronger. It's a story of finding love, even with all the loss one might have to life through.

The magic connection Daria and her family has is neat. It's something that's called a heart line. She knows that they are alive and connected with them. A power that thrums in them. They are connected to their God this way as well. But this magical connection grows with Khan as well. He feels it with his goddess and with Daria. It's interesting to see how it grows with the strength of their relationship.

This story is a light romance of Daria and Khan finding each other. We don't get into great depth of many gods here other than a few details on Daria's sea god and Thaddis's god. We do get a great view of the goddess Khan comes to serve. The Gods seem to be very active in the lives of their people. However, Daria's god abandons them. She can't connect or talk with him as she was able to do. Khan has a Goddess that helps him, and he pledges his life to help care for her land. The Goddess is very active in helping him to do just that.

The name of the series, Gods' Dream Trilogy, is what I'm looking forward too. With the ending of this book, it feels as there is more to come.

I'm so glad it's over.
A teleport to another world of magic and strange creatures that is still medieval with clashing kingdoms and active gods and goddesses. I downloaded this book for free last year because that kind of synopsis grabs my attention easily. But I kept putting it off. I finally decided to listen to it during my day and long drives. An hour in I knew this book was *not* what I expected.

The author created one of the most unique worlds I had come across, but the execution of the story telling didn't come close to landing on target. There are pages upon pages of telling instead of showing, exposition, interior monologues, and flashbacks to childhoods that I do not care one bit about. Worse, the monotony of that when broken up by dialogue is boring. There's nothing fun to be had. Sure, the author tried to alleviate the seriousness that she has dropped on everyone with the monkey bats, but failed to pull it off. Even when Khan and Daria are finally together, they still would rather think to themselves than talk to one another.

On top of the boring story that drowns the interesting world, everything is unbelievable. Yeah, yeah it's a fantasy (sort of), but not a believable one. The character's reactions to the goddess were too accepting; they were too accepting of everything. Both Daria and Khan, especially Daria, are nitwits. The author missed many opportunities for verbal debates and humor that left me thirsty for a good story. I rolled me eyes often while listening to this just doing everything I can to push through this novel and let it end. Please let it end.

Lastly: far too much religion.

The narrator for the audible version is fine. He does accents, but lacks inflection which made me think of Daria as a monotone nitwit.

***This review is for the audible version of Sower of Dreams***

A Mesmerizing Excursion to Mythological Kingdoms!

SOWER OF DREAMS by Debra Holland is an emotionally riveting science fiction fantasy with wonderful characters and a plot replete with romance, magic, danger, intrigue and explosive action sequences. In the beginning, the story was a little confusing as there was so much to absorb and it was such a change from the genres I have been listening to. I actually listened to the first couple of chapters twice as I wanted to make sure I had absorbed it all. As I quickly became acquainted with the narrator, the initial settings and the characters, the pace picked up rapidly and I totally forgot the prior slowness I had experienced getting into the story.

Wonderful romantic fantasy! Khan the hero runs to the desert in our world, to escape his older brother who is plotting to kill him to inherit the rule of their country (a middle east country). In the ruins of the desert he stumbles across ruins which contains a portal to a different world.

Princess Daria is the youngest child & only daughter of the King of Seagem. Their world is one of gods & goddesses each deity being the patron god of a country. Daria & Khan meet in their dreams & fall in love & Daria turns down the suit of a neighboring king who unbeknowst by them has come under the influence of an evil power. He attacks Seagem & Daria's father tells her to flee.

The story is wonderfully told & the author's writing & world building had me hooked. There's humor, romance, even a pair of cute "monkey-bats" whom Khan befriends & becomes his pet/friends; & evil villains.

A well written book that is part paranormal, part science fiction, part fantasy and part romance and a place where worlds collide. A war of Gods and royalty and at a time where family would kill each other to gain power. A princess is in danger and her hero is in her dreams. It is dream walking at it's best. Read along as Daria faces danger in many different places.

The author, Debra Holland tells a story as only she can while keeping our interests peaked and keeping us guessing as to what is going to happen next. The narrator, Noah Michael Levine delivered this story flawlessly with that entertaining voice he has. He is superb at multiple voices and his accents are spot on. I can almost hear a sense of humor in some of his character voices. Kudos to both author and narrator for a job well done!

I was gifted a copy of this audiobook so I could read and review it.

Though I do not usually read fantasy, this book was quite enjoyable. The book blends a fantasy world and its inhabitants with those of earth although the majority of the book takes place on the fantasy world. A young man fleeing from his brother who desires to kill him goes to a refuge in the desert which has a portal to another world. From there a young princess fleeing the suitor who has destroyed her world meets the youth from Earth and then the story begins. New landscapes and new types of animal life are quite interesting. Another appealing feature is the dream scenes where the youth and princess visit ever before they finally meet and add to that telepathy between humans and animals. It is the first of a trilogy and looking forward to reading the other two.

This is my first Audiobook review, so here goes...

Ms. Holland weaves a tantalizing web of current and etheral sories together so seamlessly, you feel like you are right there...and here... all at the same time! Vivid landscapes encompass you as you stroll through the book in awe at it's depth- all the sounds and smells linger in your senses. A Warrior princess, a farmer Prince, evil families and Gods/Goddesses fill Sower of Dreams to the brim with mystery, intrigue, romance, betrayal and action! This is a must read that I couldn't put down~ I can't wait to listen to Reaper of Dreams next!

I liked much of this book, despite the transported-from-earth-to-another-world setup. Lots of good detail. Something bothers me, but I can't quite figure out what. Perhaps it's some of these: An apparently jealous or demanding goddess puts the breaks on one plot. A protection was never explained or investigated. The second last scene was built up through the book but felt anticlimactic. She ignored the request to search out a god: she has every intention of doing so but sets herself up to not - presumably that's in a later book. The goddess didn't need the hard work of the follower, which made much of the book pointless. And the last scene was a cliffhanger opening scene a la Lost In Space. Overall a good basic read but I'm unlikely to read the next.

I found it a rather "light" read and predictable. It started off okay, but then mixed in too much religion for my liking. I thought that Khan's character didn't seem to come alive for me (wasn't fully developed enough) so I didn't find myself engaged once the drama unfolded later - wasn't routing for Khan and Daria, when I should have been. It felt a little flat to me, which is disappointing when it started so well with great imagery and an interesting plot with the shared dreams to develop. I also didn't like how easily Khan, and then Daria, switched their religion to worship this "Lady". Not enough explanation to buy into that one... but she expected their loyalty?? It just didn't ring true to me. Overall it was alright, but not great.

Very enjoyable story of a surprisingly unique world of magic...

Excellent editing and writing infuse this wonderfully unique world full of gods, goddesses & magic that is told in a very elegant way. This is not your average Sci-Fi/Fantasy. Well rounded smart characters that actually think things through and a romance that it's different, subtle and charming will have you turning pages for more. Don't get me wrong, there are bad guys, action, death mixed in with some very well thought out new creatures that you may, or may not in some cases, want as a pet. I do! Very believable. This was a very good read. I highly recommend Debra Holland's Sower of Dreams and will be purchasing the next book in her The Gods' Dream Trilogy.

Capturing Story But Has Holes In It

[Contains Spoilers]

I really liked the talk about different Gods and Goddesses and being in touch with them through othersense. However, there are just some parts of the plot that feel too convenient and too rushed.

I do not like the transition between Earth and the new planet. It feels too rushed and too random that Khan can suddenly just speak the new planet's language. The Goddess' powers also seem over-magical at times and when she lends them her powers, it seems too convenient and I would have preferred more struggle.

It would have been better if Khan were from another part of the planet rather than another planet altogether.

But I am looking forward to the next book.

So disappointing. There was a lot of potential for this book to be more than what it was. The author set up an interesting world, interesting character dynamics, and unique creatures. Heck even the idea of the storyline was unique! It was just executed so poorly! None of the action that took place made sense- it just felt lacking and too sudden. The whole time I was thinking "well...that escalated quickly..." Despite that, the story was also very predictable once you got used to the jumpy action points. This is the first series that I've started that I honestly don't care what happens in the other books.

While this is not my preferred genre, I am glad that I gave it a try. Sower of Dreams is a very creative and unique piece of fiction. My attention was hooked when the Hero and Heroine, from different worlds, met in their dreams. The portals between worlds and the free-will offered by the goddess was a very interesting twist.

By the end, I really wanted to find out what happened to Daria's kidnapped brother and missing sea god. Thankfully I will get my answers in the next two books in the series!

The only reason, I didn't give the full 5 star rating is because there was one part that I found disturbing but I do understand the need for the event to occur....

What a wonderful and extremely great story this was. Debra is like a few other authors that surprise me. In this story it shows me exactly how talented that she truly is. Of course her talents show in the Montana books but in this story it shows just how talented Debra Holland really is. This story really has it all. I highly recommend this story and I look forward to listening to Reaper of Dreams.

This was very different than the other Debra Holland books that I've read, and I struggled to get into in the beginning. But, then I really caught on and got caught up in the story. It held my attention, and kept me guessing. Debra Holland had some very unique ideas, and I want to read the next book now. That's a great compliment in my opinion, because I read a lot. For it to hold my attention, and leave me wanting more, what more could I ask for?

Debra Holland's descriptions of these new worlds were so thorough and she never left me confused during this journey. She created such amazing worlds and brought them together in a way that I have never experienced before. One of the most creative books I have ever listened to (read) and I truly loved it!

Doctor Debra Holland, my long-time peer editor, proves there's much more to her than sweet romances (not that there's anything wrong with that). If you remember the rousing fantasy tale of romantic adventure in the spirit of Andre Norton's Witch World, you will love this book.

I love this book. Love, love, love it.
