This is the most freaking amazing and hilarious manga I've ever read!!

Ren is yummilicious and Kyoko is so adorable (yet I want to shake her hard sometimes for not seeing Ren's feelings toward her). I can't wait to see them together, it sure will be one explosive love story... *dreamy sigh*

This was a fantastic read. Skip Beat is one of my favourite mangas of all time. All of the volumes will get 5 stars from me. Each volume just keeps getting better. I especially loved the Violence Mission arc that continues in this portion of the story. In this volume, Kyoko and Ren are trying to adjust to playing siblings to the characters that they are portraying. Kyoko is Setsu Heel, and her character is a spoiled punk princess. I thought it was interesting to see how she tried to figure things out when it came to Ren being Cain. Also, Ren is having his own issues with the predicament as he has to watch Kyoko treat him like a brother. I felt bad for Ren because he loves Kyoko. I hope the later volumes show their relationship more. I hope that he confesses to Kyoko that he loves her. I am loving this manga. Another A+ read for me. I cannot wait to read Volume 28. Overall, an amazing read.

I'll admit it, this whole Ren is Cain and Kyoko is Setsu thing is confusing me. I mean, is the point to get them to spend more time together? But what good is it doing when Kyoko is trying to figure out what acting lesson she is supposed to be learning, and Ren is becoming convinced that Kyoko is indifferent to him? Add to that the strangeness behind Ren losing it, beating up those guys, and I am definitely lost.

The most interesting part to me was when Kyoko popped by the set to see Ren while dressed as Natsu, and he rushed her off so some of the other actors couldn't see her looking so "grown up" and "beautiful." What compelled her to need to go see him? And what made him so calmly walk her over to her set?

I'm hoping their relationship continues to grow, but I hope they make more progress outside of whatever acting game they are playing. My brain just can't take it. LOL. :)

I really really love this manga series. In this volume, it seems that it is getting deeper and darker into Ren's past. It's a manga that has the right amount of drama, romance, and comedy. It's a must read for anyone. It's a enjoyable read.

This volume raised SO MANY QUESTIONS about Ren's mysterious past and I really want to know what the hell is going on there. WHY did he flashback to a scene where someone yelled "murderer"? Did he ACTUALLY kill someone? Or just ALMOST kill them? And what is the significance of the "2:13" on his watch? Is that when it happened? Did his watch break during the situation?

I want to know the context so badly ;u;

On a side note: I wonder what Chiori means about finding the "immortal fairy" in Kyouko o.O

Ren and Kyoko are busy becoming Cain and Setsu (on an unrelated note, I wonder if "Setsu" is pronounced Set-soo or Sets, since the "u" is often silent in anglicized Japanese words). Kyoko gets hit on by a bunch of scruffy looking hoodlooms who want to take her home and have a good time. Kyoko as Setsu says she doesn't have a problem with that, but they'd have to get past her big brother first.

That doesn't go well. Ren goes off the rails at these guys, only refraining from beating one guy to a pulp by hearing Kyoko's warning. The question is, was this Cain or Ren acting? It is pretty clear to the reader that it was actually Ren who went on a violent rampage; he forgot that Setsu was being propositioned, not Kyoko. he nearly got himself into real trouble. I think Ren's anger management problem will be dealt with further in later volumes.

Kyoko and Ren are challenged in their roles even further when they discover that they're sharing a hotel room - with a single bed. They are trying to stay in their roles even when they're alone. Being modest, Kyoko wants to be in a different room than Ren and definitely in a different bed, but she knows that Setsu wouldn't think that way. Not only that, but she'd wear sexy lingerie to bed, even with her brother (ewww!). How will Ren be able to stand having Kyoko so close to him without kissing (and more) her? Will Kyoko finally figure out that Ren's interest in her isn't just as a mentor and realize that she likes him too?

I have to say, I love Ren and Kyoko in their roles as Cain and Setsu Heel. The dynamics of their relationship are skyrocketing! I think Cain and Setsu are probably the most interesting roles yet, especially since they are so out-of-this-world. And the fact that Ren and Kyoko have to pose as brother and sister and sleep in the same hotel room....!!!! I've been eating this up!!!

Ren and Kyoko are still in character as Cain and Setsu, brother and sister. When a group of thugs want to spend time with Setsu, Cain returns from the store. Eventually, one guy pulls out a knife after throwing punches that are dodged. It’s not only until Setsu is pushed that Cain changes to Ren and sees red. He flips the guy hold the guy causing him to lose consciousness.

Later he goes after that the one that hurt Setsu seeing her as Kyoko instead of Cain’s sister. Before he can kill the guy, Setsu yells “Cain! Don’t kill him”! Which causes him to snap out of it, while having the imagine of a woman holding a bloody man. Did Ren kill someone in his past?

Later, Ren comes to the conclusion that he does need Kyoko even if she doesn’t see him as a man. Which she does. She just didn’t want Ren to know that she wishes she had looked when she barged in the bathroom.

I haven’t read this manga in a few months and I was a little worried that I had burned myself out. I was reading them pretty quickly than in July, I just stopped.

I hope we learn more about Ren’s past and maybe he can show Kyoko his feelings for her without her rejecting him.

As sad as it feels, I do love the exchange between the two after the fight.

"I... Who am I?" Ren stutters out.
I'd like to ask you that! Kyoko thinks.
"There was a black demon inside me now," Ren says.
"Yes," Kyoko answers. "It took you over completely."
"Am I still possessed by him? Setsu..."
"No," Setsu answers. "You're Cain Heel. You're my dear, cute, and klutzy big brother." [1]
Felt as in Ren didn’t know how he was. I could barely figure out who is who when they are acting.

The watch seems to be important and part of his past. I wonder what the watch means.

Today's post is on Skip Beat!, vol 27 by Yoshiki Nakamura. It is 193 pages long and is published by Shojo Beat. The cover has Kyoko and Ren as Setsu and Cain Heel. As it is the twenty-seventh in the series you need to have read the first twenty-six volumes to understand the story. There is no foul language, no sex, and mild violence in this volume. The story is told from third person close of Kyoko and Ren.
From the back of the book- Kyoko's having trouble getting into the role of Cain's sister. But is it because she can't relate to a spoiled punk princess, or because she can't let go of the fact that Ren is playing Cain? And Ren faces his own challenge with the situation. Can he stand to have the woman he loves treat him like a brother?

Review- Most of this volume is with Kyoko and Ren being the Heel siblings. It has some funny moments but we get a surprising character development for Ren. Some dudes try to pick up Kyoko as Setsu and a fight breaks out, Kyoko gets pushed around and that sets Ren off. Kyoko pulls him out of it but it scares him for some reason and he thinks about a promise he made to himself to never lose control again. The character development for Ren was an interesting and very unexpected direction. We knew that he had some shadows in his past but now this makes me wonder what he really is running from, if not his father's shadow. I wonder what we'll discover next!

I give this volume a Five out of Five stars. I get nothing for my review and I bought this manga with my own money.

The situation is horribly contrived even for manga and the character of Lory. It all just feels icky. I liked that Skip Beat was a shoujo manga without being too lewd about younger girls so I don’t love the plot line of asking Kyoko to go shack up with Ren in a hotel… Who even likes method acting? I thought we were all in agreement that it was weird and creepy. It’s okay to get into character, but he’s become a different actor now? Uuuhhh what?

Kyoko is struggling to find the role of ‘Setsu’ that will work with REN’s Cain character during the duration of Filming for the new movie! She is out in dangerous, hilarious, and reflective situations that help her decide which pathway leads to her Verizon of ‘Setsu’. Ren is figuring out how to handle the surprise the President dealt him with having Kyoko be his good luck charm. This volume takes the reader behind the curtain to see into Kuons past and how he navigates it with Kyoko present.

THIS IS HILARIOUS!
Ren and Kyouko continues to amuse me so much. They really came a long way from before. The way they assume things about each other’s reaction is funny.
Also hello? Ren naked on the shower. Kyouko girl, you really should have look from top to bottom 🫣, it benefits both of us. Seriously. 😂
The last panel feels ominous. Wonder what comes next. Hopefully no one will get into an accident and get hurt.

This arc is definitely more mature than those leading to this point, but I love seeing more of Ren's hidden character, and honestly we're following actors and seeing how varied and stretched their roles can be is fun.
What makes this series so fun is also the side-characters, they all have so much character and humour, I'm always giggling or smiling.
We end on a bit of a cliffhanger so be sure to have the next volume close at hand.

This volume is wild. Starting with the creepy Heel "siblings" and a blush worthy bathroom mishap. But also a very intense moment where the lines between performance and reality blur for Ren. The last chapter though has Ren and Kyoko returning to other ongoing projects. Bit of a whiplash really. And introducing a new rival for Ren.

2022 Skip Beat! re-read:

I really wish there were more Natsu scenes but these last few archs have really been more about the men in Kyoko Mogami's orbit than about her. The Heel siblings are fun though so I'm not complaining too much.

Half a transitional volume, but one that also reveals a piece of Ren's (violent?) past. A final cliffhanger that hints at something dangerous. Ren from the shower scene would have wanted Kyoko to look at him in full. Hilarious.

I'm just eating up this arc about the "Cain siblings" (though to be fair, I have eaten up all the previous arcs too lol). I just really love seeing Ren and Kyoko spend time together, and getting to see glimpses of his dark past. That ending with Princess Rosa falling off was ominous though!
