2.5 ⭐️ these books are so cute and silly. This had me squealing and dying of cuteness. I think i like inventor’s mate more because this was more domestic and mellow and not as much of an adventure as inventor’s mate, but i understand more about the lore cause i actually read the first of the series now. I wish the fmc was more independent and not so damsely. This book is still cute and special tho…

also I WANT A STUFFED KRIN.

I love the Lathar series that Mina has written, but this one just didn’t quite wow me like some of the others have, maybe cause it seemed a bit tame 🤷‍♀️

Fight for what you want

The author truly touched my heart with this book. A mom took her moment to find a better life, and a warrior prince embraced the gift given to him. But not without some danger and emotional distress thrown in to keep the story moving. These Latharian warriors just get more and more delicious. There are so many of them that the author has briefly touched on that I want to see find their mates, but none so much as the emperor. With each fracture he allows in the wall of his heart I can feel the loneliness seeping through. I can only hope the author takes pity on him and us to bring his perfect lady into his life. But I don’t think it’s going to happen yet.

⭐⭐.5/5

Overall impression: very fast-paced and steamy sci-fi romance novella. There were quite a few times where I felt like rolling my eyes but it was an enjoyable enough read to pass time on the weekend. Probably won't continue with the series because there wasn't really anything to draw me in.

✅ Alien / Human
✅ Warrior Prince / DV Survivor, Mother
✅ Fated mates
✅ *Fine* book cover 😍
✅ Novella
✅ Part of a series
⚖️ Dual POV was unnecessary
⚖️ Insta-lust romance
❌ Limited world-building
❌ The *noises* - Naomi gasping at every little thing was unrealistic
❌ Females worth is rooted in being able to bear children
❌ Comically bad dialogue between Naomi and Rohn
❌ Comically bad fight scene between Rohn and Dale

What happened to this series?

Holy guacamole. This novel seems to be invented for the phrase "calling it in." This review contains SPOILERS, so if you'd rather read the mindless 5 star reviews written by "people", make your call now.

There's not a lot more frustrating than characters that change on a dime for little to no reason. Rohn, who's been a giant swinging Richard throughout most of this entire series, suddenly becomes a cool guy who even makes friends. WTH? This occurs after he makes his first appearance with his potential mate by shouting at another woman. For added fun, he plays the celebrity "do you know who i am" card first. This is true to his character, but suddenly a new Rohn appears. And please don't say it's "love" that made the change. He just behaved in character right in front of a crowd.

The most ridiculous part of this whole "plot" is that the bad guy, Dale, who is largely unemployed, a drunk with no money or influence, and a known, documented threat to his abused ex, manages to hook up with some piratey Latharians and enlists them to get him onto a supposedly highly fortified space station so he can swagger around before publicly assaulting the ex. This little scene happens in full view of lots of "good" Latharians as well as Rohn. In every other book in this series, under no circumstances would this guy get within a mile of his abused ex. Not to mention, he'd be just a stinky smear on the floor after they finished with his sorriness. This is an absurd plotline that is truly embarrassing. However, it gets better when this same slimeball somehow gets away and later kidnaps the ex's daughter.

My favorite red herring is Rohn's dad, who shows up as a vaguely villainous hologram several times. He even creepifyingly projects himself into Rohn's bedroom right after Rohn and his new mate do the deed to look over the situation. Yuckadoo! But amazingly, at the wedding, he offers himself as a new grandfather. Sure. Again, this makes no sense at best and seriously lazy writing at worst. Mostly both.

The female lead is a barely sketched pretty victim who isn't really a character.

Lastly, there's a tiny child who's used as a victim, too. And on one super weird note, there's a stuffed "krin" that's part of the charm offense from Rohn. A Krin as a darling stuffed toy? The same race that has decimated several universes, who have even leveled numerous mighty Latharian outposts, made into a plushy? Are you kidding me? Sure, we have stuffed sharks and T Rex, but neither of them formed a civilization, took to the stars and munched their way through billions of beings just for fun.

This book is just a giant silly mess, and far beneath Mina Carter's skill level. I'm unsure who wrote this book, and what's happened to this series.

This was a fun cheesy alien romance, although the alien was basically just a bigger human. This was a short read with a predictable ending, and one spicy scene. I enjoyed seeing Naomi being treated with respect and offered a home with a loving partner.

Emotional and hard to put down

This book was such a deeply emotional book for me to read! From page one, I was entranced. It's A great story about a woman who is trapped in an abusive situation and needs an escape. The author writes the emotional scenes with understanding and depth and gives it a real presence in how the characters relate to eachother. I love the way the story builds and how in the face of danger, the hero comes through and proves why you liked him throughout the story building!

The Alien Prince’s Mate is the first book in the Latharian Mate Program series. Naomi is desperate to escape her abusive ex and find a better life for herself and her daughter when she stumbles upon the Latharian Mate Program. Now faced with her own alien mate, Prince Rohn, she’s hopeful and both feel their immediate connection. But will her past leave them to find love, or will all be lost too quickly?

Oh my goodness, this book was both super sweet and a bit action packed and I loved every second I spent within these pages with Naomi and Rohn! I loved their connection, I loved how tentative their trust was at first, and I loved the role that Maddie played in their relationship, too. Naomi was so protective of both her daughter and of her heart, but I loved her willingness to give her new mate a chance and to roll with this new culture. Rohn was really fun to watch tumble into love because he took so much pride in having his new readymade family, but was so protective and kind and was willing to take his time to earn their trust. And I loved that he wanted both of them right from the very beginning! They were perfect together. I liked the direction that the ending took, but I do feel like I have a few questions about it all, and so I’m curious if any of this will play in future books. I love this concept and the direction that the Lathar are taking and I can’t wait to read more!

I love sci-fi romance. I’m willing to overlook a lot of reality and accept implausibility in the sake of an entertaining story. But sometimes plot holes are just so huge that they hamper my enjoyment of the story.

The first being that Naomi ran away from an abusive relationship to marry an unknown alien from a race of warriors. Okay. But she didn’t question anything. She didn’t question at all that potentially a warrior could be violent. She didn’t question that maybe she is putting herself and daughter in a situation where they would be isolated from help if things went bad. She didn’t question that she was attaching herself to a culture where killing is allowed to gain rank etc. All these things would be on the mind of someone in a fragile state, and I would have moved past these issues if they had at least been brought up and dealt with or rationalized, rather than ignored.

The second issue… how the heck did her abusive ex become friends with alien pirates and enact a kidnapping in the space of 1.5 days?? He is portrayed early in the book as a drunk bully who lives in a poor area. What possible connections would he have to alien pirates? How would he pay them for their time? How did he find out she was on the station and have time to confront her and later kidnap the child in around 36 hours? It’s ridiculous.

Overall, it’s a quick, easy read. The less you think about it, the more you will probably enjoy it.

Naomi finally flees her violent partner when he goes after their toddler. She is completely without resources and sees her only chance at salvation - joining the Latharian Mate Program. Thankfully the staff in the office note her distress and set her and Maddie up with a way off the planet and away from #MrEvilSleeze.

Rohn may be part of the extended Royal Latharian family but he's all warrior. His father may be a social climber but Rohn would much rather strategise for war than be in charge! But when he is notified that he has a mate through the new programme he lights up like a christmas tree!

Naomi is such a brave and resourceful woman. She realised when it was time to flee. She made a determined plan to get aay and used what little resources she had - herself, to make sure her daughter was safe. But she didn't really jump from frying pan into the fire and as she was aware that the Lathar seems to be gentle with their mates.

I loved seeing Rohn and Maddie together. He took to fatherhood so well and when danger came calling there was nothing that could stop him from getting his mate and little girl back.

This new offshoot series looks like it's going to be a corker!

Naomi literally flees her home in the middle of the night, with her small child in tow.
Naomi has been in a toxic, abusive relationship for years, and now it's way past time to get out.
With nowhere else to turn, she ends up signing up for Latharian Mate Program.
She and her daughter are swiftly signed up and taken off planet to peace and safety.
Naomi will be tested and matched with her ideal match.

Rohn is the cousin of the emperor.
He's somewhat in the line of succession to the throne.
He's coming down from the ego boost this gave him.
He's getting to know his counterparts and making friends.
Rohn overhears that a female and child were brought aboard overnight.
It peaks his interest in his own results from the matching program.
Rohn is more than overnight when he finds out he's been matched with Naomi.

Rohn now has 3 days to woo his new mate or she can reject him and choose another male. Rohn has to be gentle with Naomi whom at first appears skittish because of her abusive ex. Rohn puts on the charm to make Naomi feel at ease in his presence.

I loved this story. It was great.

A lovely spin off series but lacking the depth and information from earlier stories.
Interesting that Rohn is first up to get his mate.
I liked Naomi in the end and thought more of her once she bashed Dale in the head. Prior to then, her weakness put me off. I understand that circumstances dictate at times, but there were shelters etc available, rather than stay in an abusive relationship.
She was a classic case of cycle abuse and took control only when her child was threatened.
I loved how Rohn fell for both Naomi and Maddy. He slotted into father mode beautifully.
We also get some action and tension when Dale confronts Naomi after somehow turning up on the station and Maddy is kidnapped.
But once again we get no closure on what happens to Dale in regards to punishment and no information re the other pirate kidnappers.
I do hate ending a book with questions.
Maybe in future books.
Along with The Emperor and his little slip of information about a possible mate. Hhmm.
This is my honest review of this book.

Naomi had to get herself and her daughter Maddy away from Dale before something serious happened. She was tired of living with the abuse. She stumbles across a poster for the Lathar Bride Program. Could this be the answer? Rohn K’Saan is like all the other Lathar. They all want a mate. The bride program gives them a chance. When his mate finally arrives, he is overjoyed. But he first has to winner her heart. I do love that the Mate Program is actually open hearted. They understood Naomi’s plight and got her out quickly. And you have to love that the Lathar do not care if these women have children. They will love them as their own. Naomi was tough and protected her daughter. I was a bit surprised about what happened a bit later. I wouldn’t think security would be that lapse. But I guess not all security is in fallible. Naomi, Maddy and Rohn did get their happy ending. I just wish we could find someone for the Emperor Daaynal as well as V’aant. Hopefully soon they too will find happiness.

The good, the bad & the ugly

Earth is poor, and options are few for those without resourses. Naomi has put up with
a lot from Dale, her drunken and abusive live-in partner. But when Dale turns on her 2-year-old daughter Maddy, she has reached her limit. After knocking Dale out, she flees with Maddy. But it’s the middle of the night, what can she do? Dale will not be far behind her.

Luckily she catches sight of an open Alien Mate Center. Dale won’t be able to find them in space! Once she goes in, they take care of everything, and before she knows it, she’s on her way into space.

Naomi is mated to a prince! Rohn is perfect! He includes Maddy in their time together, and he takes the time to court Naomi. But there’s a snake in every paradise. Somehow Dale finds his way onto the space station and kidnaps Maddy.

Pick up a copy and find out what happens next! You won’t be sorry.

Our first exposure to Rohn, several books back, wasn't very promising. Entitled royal who looked down on everyone. But every book after had him improving to the point I wanted him to have a romantic chance with a human. Wish granted.

Naomi and Maddy are a matched set. Mother and daughter on the run from the man who would kill them. In her desperation Naomi enters the Latharian Mate Program and is whisked off planet to safety and her very own prince. No really, a prince.

This book has the author's usual world building, which I find very gratifying. Naomi is open to romance but understandably wary. Maddy is innocence personified but quick to trust Rohn, always a plus as a sign for a parent if she too can trust the new man in her life.

A few twists I didn't see coming kept me duly entertained. The author also teases us once again with the bachelor/emperor Daaynal. I'm so ready for that man to meet his match. But this book kept me entertained while I wait.

Naomi's now "ex" Dale threatened to kill their daughter Maddy, so she runs into the night but has nowhere to go until she comes to the only opened shop that isn't a shop at all but the Latharian offices of the alien Mate Program. further tightening her shivering arms around Maddy Naomi enters into the refuge for both their lives. Because she's classified as OE-7 the two are immediately whisked away to the Latharian mother ship Devan Station which holds her future dreams of a safe life for Maddy. Prince Rohn K'Saan is on this ship and when he senses his fated kelarris. Though this story involves dangers, kidnapping, political assignations, and threats of enforced slavery the sweetness of the family formed between Rohn, Naomi, and Maddy outweigh the negatives. This story was a pleasure for me to read and I'm leaving an honest and voluntary review for the ARC I received.

Alien Prince's Mate (Latharian Mate Program 1)

Just as in Mina Carter's last book,
I myself have never been one to jump on the alien books because the ones I have are pretty out there. Her books are perfect. They mix humans with in this case Latharians. The Mate program was set up especially because their female population was decimated due to plague.
I hate to see violence against women and especially violence against children. When Naomi ran to the safest place she could, who could fault her? When she met Rohn she was initially skittish. What sold her was the stuffed Latharian octopus he gave to Maddie, her daughter. Her disgusting ex causes all kinds of problems.
This is such an interesting read. It is less erotic than the other but I like it just as much!

A DEFINITE MUST READ!

Naomi knows she needs to leave. She has put up with her lot in life but the last straw is when it threatens her daughter. Can she find the courage to leave everything she knows?
Alien Prince's Mate is the first in Mina Carter's Latharian Mate Program series. I enjoyed getting to meet Rohn. He has a title but it cannot give him what he desires...a family. So he is beyond ecstatic to be matched with Naomi, but can he keep her and his new daughter safe?
I thoroughly enjoyed finding out as Rohn and Naomi learn each other. I enjoyed seeing both Naomi and Maddy blossom under Rohn's care. I enjoyed seeing Rohn come into his own while learning about the two new females in his life.
This story is an enjoyable read and I look forward to more from Ms. Carter in this series.

A desperate, life saving situation forces Naomi to flee her home with her young daughter and little else.
With nowhere to go she stumbles upon a still open Latharian Mate program office.
Things progress quickly and they are given a room on an actual alien ship!
Finding out she's been matched with a prince was unbelievable.
Rohn K'Saan is alerted that a match has been made and the attraction between them is undeniable.
Will they escape Naomi's dangerously deranged ex to live their own HEA?
So many emotions experienced - heart dropping to rock your socks off romance.
A riveting read.

Naomi and Maddy stole my heart. Rohn’s heart was taken at first sight too. I do love a story where a good woman gets away from an abusive relationship and makes a good life. Naomi is somewhat delicate but devoted to her daughter and that gives her the strength to join the mating program as an escape. Most of the story is filled with their romance and learning about each culture. While still angsty it’s also sweet and heartwarming. Of course a baddie has to show up and action ensues. The HEA we all read these tales for is one of dreams, loved this read.

When her abusive husband’s threats were scaling Naomi would not wait anymore. With no other way out, Latharian Mate program seemed the correct answer. Rohn had dreamed enough about a human mate and now that he had her, he would protect her against everything. A love story with courting and everything. Liked how Rohh was helping Naomi with her self-esteem, feel secure and his kindness and details to her child. V’aant left me intrigued. from an abusive man with a small child in danger. An alien Prince looking for his perfect mate and a DNA match that sets it all in motion. Even after they meet and begin to learn to trust and care for each other, the danger is still present and coming for Naomi and her daughter, but this time she has a determined Lathar male who will do whatever is necessary to defend his family. Bad guys beware. This is a delightful addition to the Latharian universe and one I truly recommend.

Naomi and her daughter runs from an abusive situation and gets a chance to start a new life with someone so unexpected as she joins Latharian mate program. Prince Rhon is surrounded by friends finding their other half and when he gets the word that his match was found, it will take more than he expects. Will he be up for the challenge at the chance of forever with his human mate? Interesting premise. I see we’re branching off into another dimension of the original world. Rohn is different in this story. He doesn’t seem genuine to me because he’s written differently. Perhaps because he’s growing personally. I did enjoy the story initially, but found myself getting bored pretty quick. Nothing really going on in the story. Rohn, Naomi and Maddy were a cute family. The story lacked character building and a lot holes, unanswered why’s for me. Looking forward to V’aant’s story.

Good book

This book was read. It was nice to see a different side of Prince Rohn. Naomi joined the mating program to run away from her daughter Maddy’s father, who was physically abusive to Naomi and was matched to Rohn. They hit it off right from the beginning with instant attraction. We get to see their courtship and then a little excitement when a problem arises. This was a short novella and that could be why I didn’t feel as attached to this MC as I have with others from this author’s books. It was still good though and I enjoyed it.

Didn't "wow" me like I thought it would based on the reviews. I felt the story could have been longer in which we actually saw the FMC slowly fall for MMC. It was pretty instantaneous (which I don't mind insta-love stories, but due to the context of this story, it didn't feel right).

The end also felt anticlimactic, but I did enjoy the worldbuilding and side characters. I won't be continuing this series, unfortunately, due to the price of each book. I just didn't enjoy this one enough to buy the next one.🐥💕

While this is the first book in the Alien Mate Program series, it was great to return to the Lathar world, and see some familiar faces.
While Rohn was a bit of a jerk in past books, he did seem to become more human in the last few. Naomi and Maddy were perfect for him to settle down with. Great story with a HEA for all 3!
Look forward to V'aants story

What an amazing way to start a new series. Such a compassionate read. Naomi and Maddie steal your heart. Escaping a volatile relationship, she enlists in the mate program to provide a better life for her and her daughter.
Rohn could hardly believe he'd been matched, and when he meets Naomi and Maddie for the first time, he knows right there who his heart belongs to.
Love and romance are in the air until Naomi's past catches up to her..
