Oh. It's You.: Love Poems by Cats

Rate this book
From the author of the beloved I Could Pee On This series comes a new book of hilarious love poems from cats to their people.

Cats have so many ways to say "I love you." Sometimes it's a gentle purr and a slow blink. Sometimes it's a tiny dead animal offered in tribute. And sometimes, it's expressed in that deepest of cat love languages: poetry.

The author of the internationally bestselling series of tongue-in-cheek poetry helps cats put paw to keyboard to express the depth of their feline feelings in odes to breakfasts (on time, please!), ripped-up rugs (it's a sign of affection!), the importance of keeping watch in the bathroom, and the perfect cardboard box that the expensive and totally ignored new cat bed arrived in. Illustrated by adorable and goofy cat photos, this book is the purrfect combination of snarky and sweet that every cat person knows is cat for true love.

CAT PHOTOS GALORE: Illustrated by a collection of feline models striking poses that are charming, affectionate, standoffish, and just plain silly, this whimsical poetry book reveals kitties at their most lovable.

IDEAL GIFT FOR CAT LOVERS: The humor in the poems is based on universal experiences shared by all cats and their owners. For that "crazy cat lady" or "cat mom/dad" in your life, this poetry book makes for the perfect cat-themed gift for anyone obsessed with their pet.

MINI COFFEE TABLE BOOK: Enchant visitors with this hand-held volume of the best cat poetry sure to delight book lovers and humor enthusiasts alike.

This is a collection of poems that share the thoughts of cats, along with photographs. I didn’t read them to Paisley, my cat, because I knew she would insist on her own office to write a collection of Love Poems of her own, and a separate collection just for Aoife, the only one of my dogs that she hisses at.

For the most part, these poems range from sarcastic to hilarious, with a wonderful collection of photographs that show just how exhausting it was for them to write them.

For cat lovers, this would make a fun gift for any occasion, especially with several holidays approaching.

Best book of cat poems I've read! (And yes, I've read more than one book of cat poems.) All were spot-on and really showed the author knows how to approach life from a cat's point of view. The photographs of cats were beautiful. cute, charming - all the adjectives to describe exquisite cat photography.

Finally it is here and I loved EVERY bit of it~ Cute photographs + poetry = win~!

And yes, finally, because I pre-ordered this one in September, the book was supposed to come out in October 3rd, but then the issues began with Amazon. They didn’t have it in stock. A new date came around. No books. But finally end of January and the book came in! I could finally read this one!

I am a giant fan of Francesco Marciuliano’s books, with the exception of Claw the System, I got all of them at home. I just love how he is able to blend cats (and their attitudes) with poetry (and that one book with dogs). And with this new book, aptly named Oh. It’s You. (which is such a catchphrase for cats), he did it again! We have four sections, Hoping, Holding, WOULD IT KILL YOU TO GIVE ME A LITTLE SPACE?!, and lastly Everlasting. I had so much fun reading the poetry, and many of them made me laugh. Once again all from the POV of the cat! About hugs, food, humans, company, presents, and more. And Francesco Marciuliano has captured them so right again. Notice, I do not have a cat myself, sadly, because I am very allergic to them. But I have friends with cats + the internet is there as well. I know how cats can be. For real. Like once, I was changing into my wedding dress at my friend’s place, we were getting ready for my wedding. We had locked the door to the room (which had access to the outside so we could sneak out without going past her cats) because my friend had two cats (one more introvert and the other a real terror). But somehow, don’t ask how, the terror kitty was able to get a bit of my dress through the small gap of the door. Now it is funny, but I can tell you that back then? I was absolutely terrified. That cat was a menace (cute but a menace). XD And I have heard tales from friends + my hubby’s co-workers.

I really enjoyed the poems and loved how they varied from I love yous to I love you but with conditions to Oh but thanks to me you have a friend to Why are you calling me Kitty kitty kitty you want to die?.

Two of my favourites would be:

“Vacation time
Sick leave
Flex time
Whatever you choose to use
Just call your boss this morning
To tell them
I won’t be leaving your chest
until next Tuesday at the earliest.”

“You stare at me
Like you’ve never seen
Someone stretch out on a 12th-floor
balcony guardrail
And I worry
You and I may want different things
out of life.”

And of course, like the others, this one is also full with photographs of cute kitties (and some menaces, but again even those are cute). I was just going awww the whole time!

All in all, I do hope that there are more books to come! I wouldn’t mind another kitten book or maybe another one from dogs.

I couldn't resist this instant ARC download. I mean, look at that cover.

This features lots of cat photos, and can be read in about 10-15 minutes. It delivers exactly what the title promises: Love Poems from a cat's perspective. I expected something whimsical and humorous yet heartwarming—but thought that it fell short on the latter. Almost every poem is tongue-in-cheek (fine) and written from the perspective of a stereotypical aloof cat (not fine; it's a cliché I'm quite over, and certainly not my experience).
Here's one to give you an idea of what they are like:

Calling

I've been listening to you
Wandering around the house
Calling out my name
For so long
I forgot why I was hiding in the first place
But it's great to be wanted
And even better if I'm not found

Francesco Marciuliano really knows cats and has obviously had cats himself. In fact, I wouldn’t be surprised if his two current cats, Kiki and Leelo, didn’t help write some (if not all) of these poems. I enjoyed his wry sense of humor as I read his poems with my own cat looking over my shoulder- literally.

A book for cat owners and cat lovers. A cat’s love may not be as unconditional as a dog’s but it certainly keeps you on your toes! If you have ever had a cat, you will relate to this funny little book of poems.

Oh. It's You.: Love Poems by Cats by Francesco Marciuliano is exactly that, a collection of love poems written from the perspective of cats. Lots of people think cats aren't very loving. They have a reputation for treating their people like servants. In fact, they are very loving. They just show their affection in a way that most people can't understand. Once you unlock the cat psyche, you will start to see their every action, no matter how distressing, as a loving gesture. The book is short and can be read in one sitting or savored over a period of time. While I found the poems quite humorous, as someone in on the joke, I am sure they were written with serious intentions. If you are a dog person, this book is not for you.

I received this book as a present since I love cats and everything that is related to cats (especially black cats).

This is written from the point of view of cats. Additionally, the poems are quite charming and I enjoyed the adorable photographs of cats.

Here a few of my favorites because they remind me of my cat, Merlin:

To the Person I Am Now With:
You are
Everything
I could
Ever want
If it has to be you

I'm Home:
My new home
My favorite home
Is simply everything
I thought it would be
Based on what I could glean
Was your particular sense of style

Just Ask:
There is nothing
I would not do for you
Is something
I should have told you years ago
But hey, I was busy grooming
And you were in your really needy
   phase back then

I would definitely recommend this book for all cat lovers.

I love Francesco Marciuliano's cat poetry books! This one was especially cute. It even had a poem that got me a little weepy thinking about my kitties that passed away earlier this year. Seriously, if you're a cat lover, check out his cat books. They're purely delightful!

Absolutely hilarious and totally spot on voice for cats. My husband got this for me as a gift and it will stay on our coffee table for us to randomly pick up and read poems to each other. Love it.

Cat owners will get it.

This is hilarious and a bit sentimental. A great gift for the cat lover in your life.
Reading this made me laugh out loud, which, of course, annoyed the cat.

Cats love us, in their own ways. Sometimes that means snuggles and purring. Other times it means digging their claws into your thighs so you can’t stand up, no matter how badly you need to use the bathroom. But the love of a good cat is a truly unique and special thing. It is a gift, as are these love poems from cats, brought from author and cat father Francesco Marciuliano.

Oh. It’s You. is his latest collection of love poems by cats, filled with the moving emotions of cats not remembering our names, watching the ghosts in our houses and not telling them when is a good time to kill us, expressing their love by sitting on our face, and putting their scent on us to remind all the other cats that they are cray-cray and the other cats would be wise to stay away from their humans.

Whether they are lamenting with us that people suck or watching us like we are idiots on their favorite reality show, cats have a special love for us, especially when we feed them. They may destroy our furniture and leave cat hair on the pizza and not get out of the way when we make the bed, but we love them.

And one day, when they’re no longer around, when we are sad that they are gone, we will stop and remember all the special things they did. How they made us laugh. How they made us cry. How they made us buy them cat beds over and over until they would finally use one. And then we will realize that they really are still with us, and we go check the pantry to find them eating the roast chicken ramen packages. Again.

Cats are amazing companions, and while we love them as best we can, we are not worthy of them. (They would agree with this.) But they put up with us anyway, and they share their love with us in funny and frustrating and wonderful ways. Oh. It’s You. is a celebration of all the ways cats love us, talk to us, hide from us, destroy our stuff, and make us feel alive. Cat lovers will appreciate the beautiful photos and the honest sentiments of the poetry. A relationship with a cat is a unique experience, but author Francesco Marciuliano has put the experience into poetry, so we can share it with others.

I’ve been a fan of Marciuliano’s cat books for many years now, and Oh. It’s You. is another fun and funny compilation of all the reasons we love cats and are going gray prematurely. He gets cats. He gets cat owners. And now we can get his love poems by cats and share them with all the cat owners. Then when we take the book home and set it on the table, our cats can come over and admire it. And then knock it to the floor.

Egalleys for Oh. It’s You. were provided by Chronicle Books through Edelweiss, with many thanks.

I promised I had read one of his books before and wasn't quite impressed with it so wasn't really sure what I was going to be getting myself into with this one. As a result there are the normal elements in the book of waste material used for laughs, which I never have found funny and it still hasn't made me laugh with this book.

Oh. It's You is divided into four chapters but the chapter titles didn't really seem to feel like they actually pertained to the poems that were included in them. The poems were started off with a presented title followed by the body of the poem itself. Most were really brief, non-rhyming and at least pertained enough that I could relate to them with my own cats

As with other books this one is illustrated with brightly colored photographs and although not too spectacular I would have to say this was the best part of the book.

Otherwise if you are a cat guardian or someone who likes cat you may find this a nice quick read to serenade the cats in your life even if they also don't seem to be too impressed by this book.

I think we can all agree that one of life's most important questions is "Why are cats. . .?"

Almost as equally important is the fact that I didn't realize that cat poetry even existed. Although, i should have assumed as much, considering that cats are superior, in every way.

Again, it's been quite a few years for me, not having my own pet kitties, but this particular title still spoke to me, deeply; judged me appropriately; gagged me unabashedly.

I consider myself pretty fluent in cattitude. Needless to say, I enjoyed this title thoroughly, although I have nothing to compare it to.

Sidenote: I still think we should get a library cat. Our department could use a worthy leader.

At any rate my favorite passages include: Same, Very Much, My Favorite Human, On Guard, Please, I'm Begging You, Just Let Me Sleep, and Meow Back.

A purrfect diversion for a catlover!
This is a delightful read for a catlover. It gave me many smiles, and I could imagine my cats scratching out similar poetry (in between demands for food or a lap). I laughed, but I also had some more somber moments, like contemplating the cat’s pleasure at killing a bird.
The poetry itself varies. Some is better than others in quality, but it captures beautifully our cats’ relationship with us and ours with them. I have it on my list as a gift item for some appropriate friends!
One word of warning. I am a devoted ebook reader , but I think, because of the wonderful photos, this would be a much better choice in hard copy.
I received an advance review copy of this book from Edelweiss and the publisher.

Believe in US
To me, you
Will always be
That special person
Who bought the wrong cat bed
Four times in a row
Four
And yet I still try to make it work

The above is just one of the poems contained in this volume that tickled my cat fancy. Anyone who has tried to bond with a cat will find understanding in this little book. The photos are gorgeous and worth the price of admission. Cats are an enigma, but we love them all the more for it. I am reminded that I still need to read this author's previous work. Looking forward to it! 🐈
