A FATED FANTASY QUEST ADVENTURE, Book 1, Awaken: The Witches, The Spell Book, and The Magic Tree. First in an Action-Packed Ten Book Fantasy Series- a Classic Coming of Age Adventure in a Thrilling New World of Magic.

Mind reading twins, Meghan and Colin Jacoby, have until the rising of the blue moon to save the life of a young man whose family is forced to flee through a magical portal to another world, without him. In the process, they unknowingly break a spell and awaken an ancient dark magic, which has an unfortunate side effect: now they are being hunted too!

In Book One…
Meghan and Colin Jacoby are looking forward to a typical summer vacation, which means their guardian (and uncle) will pull into the Cobbscott Campground just off the coast of Maine and park his travel trailer for three full months.

Normally, they’d never spend more than a few weeks in any one place, their uncle preferring to stay on the move. Why did he do this? The twins have never thought to ask.

Their only concern being that their friend Sebastien will be in Cobbscott as well... the one person who also happens to know their secret- the twins are telepathic and can read each other’s’ minds. A supernatural secret they’ve never even told their Guardian.

Within hours of arrival, Meghan and Colin are making plans to meet up with Sebastien but before they can, unexpected guests arrive. Guests with reserved campsites… reserved, but unused for years. And even more mysterious is that within hours, it’s clear these new visitors did not come alone! Something else has followed them. Something dangerous, and evil, with an eerie shadow that flies across the tree tops screeching out a warning that can have only one meaning: we know where you are…

I have to start off by saying that I couldn't finish this book. It was too much...all the dragging. I really tried but nope...

This was a boring story. There were no real descriptions of the characters besides Meghan having red hair and a nose ring, Colin being short, and Sebastian being athletic. Were they identical twins? Her shorter than him? How old was Sebastian?

The writing was meh! I didn't really get the feeling that Meghan was only 12/13 years old, not by the way she acted/things she said. Ex: thinking her hips were too big for a jacket? Colin acted like someone way younger than 12/13. I imagined Sebastian as more of an older kid. I wasn't a fan of the robotic dialogue either. I noticed several punctuation errors throughout the story also.

There were so many times where I wanted to smack Meghan because of the idiotic things she would say. I mean, she'd say stuff (below are examples) that just made absolutely no sense to me.

I can only imagine all questions/comments I could have come up with if I had finished. I just couldn't do it.

Questions/Comments:

Why does Colin always refer to his sister as 'sis'? Never by Meghan or Meg.

They're in the boat and there are foamy bubbles and strange sounds all of a sudden surfacing. How did no one besides Colin think something was in the water? They knew there were underwater plants and whatnot, so why were they scared? So the fact they got stuck shouldn't have been that big of a deal. If this was an area they'd been to before, the being-scared part would make sense, to suddenly be stuck.

Meghan hears her brother calling for her after they fall into the lake. Yet, instead of looking around for him, she just swims to the shore. Strange.

When Jae tells Colin to just wait for the moose to go back under, Jae says, "You're not sitting atop a seven-foot-tall moose." Huh? Was that a mistake or suppose to say something else?

Yes, they'd been walking around wet the whole day, but how were they ever cold? "Once warmed..." We were already told how humid of a day it was... And how did they not shower before eating?

So they follow two gypsies into the woods, "...where a fallen pine tree lay...". Yet, how is Colin suddenly climbing it? "Colin, clinging to a branch with one hand while sitting on one below, and Meghan, with her hand seizing his leg.

Colin's new book falls out of his sweater (even though the day before was humid...) and a female asks him if he saw that. Yet, she thinks he's planning on reading it when she asks to see it? Huh? Why when describing the book were only the leaves mentioned? No text, but suddenly there is now? Hence, she thought he was going to read it.

When the book starts talking/messaging them, Colin suggests the book will help them and Meghan gets mad at him? Thinking he's crazy? Seriously?

So even after their uncle confessing that the knew about their telepathy and being fine with it, Meghan thought he wouldn't understand the book or Jae? Again, seriously?

Book Review- Awaken by Rachel D’Aigle

Meghan and Colin are twins who live with their uncle. They lost their parents when they were young. Their lives now are full of travel with their uncle. The author doesn’t give a lot of background. There are hints at secrets and of possible things coming. The main characters are twelve and act like it, Meghan comes to Colin’s rescue against bullies. He obviously resents it. He wants to be bigger and have the ability to take care of himself. They have a special ability of speaking to each other’s mind through thoughts. It is never revealed if it is a twin thing or a magic ability. They speak with each other constantly that way. Their friend Sebastien knows about the ability. They see him every summer when they stay at the same campground.
This story gains a group of gypsies that add mystery. Meghan and Colin let their curiosity get them into situations that turn dangerous. They make a new friend in Jae. He is a member of the gypsy’s group. The author basically throws the characters together. They trust and help each other.
Jae is stranded away from his family. He teaches them a few things about magic and his enemies, but Meghan is faced with the biggest change. Something is happening to her. Some of the known characters seem to understand what is going on but they play it off and keep their secrets. That frustrated me as a reader. I wanted more information. Then the ending was abrupt. The storyline is original, and I wonder what will happen next. I also wonder when the author with reveal what the heck is going on. I give it a 3 out of 5.

Intriguing premise and okay story, but seriously needed the deft hand of a good editor. There were far too many punctuation, grammar and spelling errors to make the story flow as smoothly as it could have. And, there were many instances of clunky, awkward dialogue between the characters, especially the young children. Most kids wouldn't use "cannot", "did not", or "would not" when they are speaking--they would use the contractions. Also, when the twins were communicating telepathically, I think it would have been helpful to have the dialogue in italics so the reader would know more clearly that it was happening inside their minds. But, that's just my opinion. The very idea that they could do that was in itself quite a cool concept.

I'm not sure I really liked Meghan at times--she was quite bossy, vain and mercurial, but I suppose that might accurately describe a thirteen-year old girl! Colin was not a bad character for the most part and his burgeoning abilities made him quite unique. Jae and Sebastian were also okay supporting characters. I really liked Uncle Arnon and his relationship with the twins.

The fantasy elements of the story were interesting enough and probably would appeal to younger readers. One thing I found really far-fetched and strained my level of belief, however, was the moose incident. I don't believe a moose would act in that manner.

The ending was very abrupt and rushed, designed no doubt to entice the reader to read the next book. I probably will do so at some time in the future, but maybe not right away.

This book was all right. It was a little bit difficult to get into, but it does have an interesting concept behind it. Although... I will admit it wasn't quite what I was expecting.

The characterization of the twins at the moment is so-so. Colin and Meghan are on the cusp of their thirteenth birthdays, but they felt a bit younger at times. Colin is bookish and comes across as a bit cranky, and Meghan is bossy and comes across as a vain little girl sometimes. I'm hoping as the series develops, so too does their maturity.

Considering the synopsis was vague, and that I remember reading something about twins with powers, I thought the plot would focus more on them but Jae seems to be much more important. Interesting, but still. Also, there's still a lot of mystery surrounding the twins, but... unfortunately, not presented in a way that makes me especially curious to find out what their deal is exactly.

Overall, it was okay. I may read the rest sometime just to see what happens, but I'm in no rush at the moment.

I thought the book was interesting, but the characters keep saying things or doing things that they wouldn't say or do in real life. For example, when the catawitch came out of the fire, Meghan asked something like, "Who are you and why are you here?" / " who are you and what do you want?"
In real life, I think, if you were to see a cat jump out of a fire, firstly, you wouldn't speak to the cat instinctively because instinctively you know cats can't speak, so you would have checked to make sure you weren't hallucinating. If you once started realizing the cat actually did come out of the fire, you still wouldn't speak to it because you instinctively know cats can't speak. You would have gotten scared it would burn you or something and backed off. But NO, Megan just straight away asked the cat "who are you and why are you here?" Only after that did Meghan wonder why she just spoke to the cat, only AFTER.
Too many things are happening too quickly in the book and it doesn't make the story seem believable. I wish the story could have slowed down and given time to explain a few things.

I felt like I was reading a very rough first or second draft. Not only were the constant, pointless typos and grammatical mistakes distracting, but they were also confusing and made the story difficult to follow at times. Mostly it felt rushed in places, or even somewhat disconnected. I could follow the story and aspects of it were interesting (twin siblings being able to read each other's mind and feel each other's feelings, for instance), but it was so rough that I found it to be incredibly frustrating. A good editor and several revising drafts could have helped the story immensely, but let's just say, it needed a lot of work. It did begin to improve at the end, or maybe I just started to get used to the rougher style, but I'm not sure if I can hope that the series will improve. It was disappointing, because, like I said, there was some potential and I was hopeful when I started the book, after reading the description.

I am a sucker for any book that takes place in Maine and this one is no exception! Great YA book for any age with just enough magic and mystery to keep you totally engrossed in it. I read it all in one day as I couldn't wait to see what happened.

Bringing in local Indian legend, Gypsy legend as well as parallel universes, the book has it all. We never do quite figure out exactly what Meghan and Collin are, but they are special! Of course I would love to have one of those caravans that are like the tents off Harry Potter, full of rooms that just don't fit! Very easy read and enjoyable for anybody who like mystical stories! I can't wait to read the next one!

What a great read. I thoroughly enjoyed this book. Although it was written for the younger generation, it is a good read for any age. The twists and turns along with the fantasy were mesmerizing. The fast pace and plot line are those of a seasoned author. This was a new author for me and after reading the first book, I immediately purchased all other books in the series (and there are 6 so far). D'Aigle has a unique ability to grab the reader and pull them in, and at the conclusion of her book leave them wanting ... no needing more. Love this series.

School is out & summer is here at last. My summers were never quite like this.

At the Cobbscott Campground (Maine) with Uncle Arnon Jacoby; Colin Jacoby (13, Little Bro, Col, telepathy) was confronted/humiliated once again by Toady #1 (bully), Toady #2 (bully), & Toady #3 (bully).

Meghan Chelcy Jacoby (13, twin sister, telepathy, Firemancer) came to his rescue.

The twins had lost both their parents at the age of 2.

A good friend of Uncle Arnon; Kanda Macawi (Tunkapog, Native American woman) came for breakfast. Uncle Arnon had the hot’s for her. She always has lots of tales to tell the family.

Later lots of Gypsy wagons pulled in the campsite. For 6 summers the adventurous twins had been friends with Sebastien Jendaya. Meghan had a crush on him.

The trio met Jae Mochrie (m, Gypsy). Later they went to the Blue Moon Festival & Colin bought a Book (Magicante, Eidolon’s Valley) from a vendor Jasper Thorndike.

The twins later found out from Jae that Scratchers (bat-wolf things, creatures) hunt/kill the Gypsies. The Gypsies travel year round because there are doorways to other worlds, realms, dimensions, & realities (a key to open the door) that keeps the Gypsies caravan (magical powers) somewhat safe.

Meghan seemed to have a reoccurring problem with her dreams that turn into horrid nightmares (fever, voices, hallucinations). This time it lasted almost 2 weeks. Her recovery was just in time for the twin’s birthday.

The 2 families were attacked by the Scratchers Colin & Megan survive & manage to save Jae. Uncle Arnon was presumed dead.

Jae takes the twins to his world in Bedgewood Harbor (Maine, Bedgewood Isles) so the twins might appear before the Viancourt (Tanzea Chase, Darius Hadrian) & Juliska Nandalia Blackwell (Banon of the Svoda, Gypsies leader).

The Mochrie family lives in Grimble. The twins meet Sheila Mochrie (mother, Gypsy) & Mireya Mochrie (sister, Gypsy). Irving Mochrie (father, Gypsy) had been in the hospital but later returned. Ivan Crane (17, Gypsy) used to live with the family but now is out on his own.

A real bizarre thing happens & the twins meet Uncle Eddy Jacoby (Arnon brother).

The newly formed trio meet the 3 D’s (female bullies, Watchers) Dulcy Hadrian, Darcy Scraggs & Daveena Troast (lower education).

Jae had to meet with the Viancourt he was demoted in school & the twins would now enroll/start school. Dulcy & Darcy are in the twin’s class (upper education). Daveena & Jae are in the lower education class. Lindy is their teacher. Jae had found a Catawitch (creature, magical world, Nona Jacoby) & Megan brought it to school.

Lots of PPL came to Thanksgiving Day at the Mochrie house.

The Viancourt meets again to determine Ivan Crane’s future. Firemancer, Meghan Jacoby will become his Learner Companion.

Svoda Liberation Committee (SLC) also has their meetings.

Christmas passed & it was time for the Feast of the Blest Arcane (Svoda).

What could the tales told to the twins by Kanda Macawi reveal about her Tunkapog tribes ties to the Gypsy world?

Who will pass the test & get to join the Svoda?

What mysteries does the book of Magicante hold to those that can obtain/possess it?

What does Fenestra mean when someone says it? Who was Catrinia Flummer in Colin’s dreams when he was in the hospital?

What does Emissio mean when someone says it?

How will the battle between the Svoda (Amelia Cobb (leader), Owen Cobb, Cora, Nina Tourner, Barrett Nuskey, Berta Prideaux, Colton Fahlbush Curtis Bevins, Heloise Peppernell, Wilbur Finn), the Goblins (Eidolon (leader)), the Balaton’s (Juliska Blackwell (leader), Jae, Irving, Mochrie, Ivan, Catrina, Jelen) & the Scratchers turn out?

Fond memories my biological dad loved the outdoors. Our family summers were spent at campgrounds all over the US. I/my adopted sister favorite was Lake Idlewild (Camp) in the middle of Lake Michigan. It’s been a long/long time since I have had a Whoopee Pie.

A very awesome book cover, great font & writing style. Wow, all 3 were very all well written exciting adventurous sci-fi, fantasy or paranormal 1-3 books. They weren’t all very easy to read/follow from start/finish, but on the other hand never a dull moment. There were no grammar errors, repetitive or out of line sequence sentences. Lots of exciting scenarios, with several twists/turns & a huge great set of unique characters to keep track of. This could also make great sci-fi movie, animated cartoon, or mini TV series. A delightful set of 1-3 books for a teen to read. There is no doubt in my mind this is a very easy rating of 5 stars.

Thank you for the free book (Smashwords)

A great young adult novel!
I found this a wonderful short read about two siblings, twins, who are about to turn 13 and have their whole world turn upside down. The twins who have an unusual telepathic connection start the summer excited to see old friends while at their regular campsite and finally turn 13, what they don't expect is discovering magic is real and that they themselves have magic beyond their telepathy with each other. Struggling with this new reality they discover there are a lot more scary things out in the woods that before could only be found from some fantasy novel or movie. In the process they meet a new magical gypsy friend and choose to help him get back to his family after he gets separated, all while trying to hide their new magic from each other at first, but more importantly from their Uncle fearing what he might think and worse worried he may get hurt. What they don't know are the secrets the adults in their lives have been keeping from them hoping to keep them safe from this magical world. The end of the story ends in a huge cliffhanger not knowing what happens to the twins or their Uncle. Do the monsters get him? Are the twins whisked away to the magical realm? Will they ever discover who their real parents are? So many questions yet to be answered, I can't wait to continue the series to see what happens to this unique pair of twins and their friends.

Gypsy and campers and magic and one wild summer

Their normal campground for their summer vacation becomes a place of mystery new friends unexpected changes and magic. The twins have been raised by their uncle since they were two and always enjoy spending the summer at the camp grounds,it's the only place they ever stay very long as their uncle travels over the country. They feel as though their extended family resides at the campground what with the native American manager who secretly has a crush on their uncle. Then their is their best friend Sebastian and his parents Kay and Milo.
During this visit however the adults are all ill at ease about the gypsy that have camped next to the twins and their uncle and the sudden strange screeching flying shadows. But no one will say why. Weird things keep happening that can't be explained and the twins fear it is somehow connected to a new book the boy twin purchased at the festival and the gypsies. .. I would highly recommend this book to young readers I believe if they enjoyed Harry potter they will definitely enjoy this book it has twist and turns as the twins development of magic on their birthday and battering the monster type things that hunt the gypsies trying to prevent the passage to another realm leaving jae stranded till the next time the portal opens and the next fight occurs.

Awaken is the first book in the Fated Fantasy Quest Adventure series of books. This book is about Meghan and Colin, who are twins getting ready to turn thirteen. But Meghan and Colin, while looking nothing alike, are very special. They can read each other’s thoughts and they can speak to each other through their minds. The twins are being raised by their Uncle, Arnon, and while they spend most of the year traveling, they spend every summer in Maine. They have not been there long when there are gypsies arriving as well. Most of the time they park next to gypsies and their uncle is very friendly but this time he is acting weird. The twins are not sure what is going on but the reader knows something is going to happen as Arnon talks to a friend Kanda about how when the twins turn thirteen they can no longer protect them from their future. The book moves really fast and I will let you the reader take it from there.

This book is really good. The characters are developed very fast, with the personalities coming through very fast. The book moves at a fast pace and keeps the reader interested. I would recommend this to anyone who loves paranormal stories, witch stories, gypsy stories, and stories about people with some kind of special powers.

I’m giving this book 4 hearts

Set at a camp in Maine during the summer, nearly 13-year-old twins Meghan and Colin Jacoby are eagerly awaiting their birthday while hanging out with an old friend and making a new friend (who happens to be from a family of Gypsies). It won't be a normal summer, however. Throw in some otherworldly creatures (that are very interested in the Gypsy family and the portal they use to travel), the twins' mind-speak with each other, plus a cast of characters that seem to know more about the twins' history than the twins do, and you've got the makings of a good summer read.

This enjoyable YA/teen read mixes suspense and action with funny elements and serious parts. I look forward to seeing where the series goes.

This book was in the young adult section but I think even younger readers would enjoy it and there is nothing objectionable in it really. I enjoyed this fantasy coming of age story and while the ending was a bit abrupt that is not really a big deal as it is a series. I don't mind cliffhanger endings as long as there are more books :)

The characters were believable and likable. The action was fast paced and had good flow. The fact that the setting of this book was a wilderness campground was refreshing. It can be a bit repetitive that most modern fantasy is in an urban setting now. Modern fantasy could use some refreshing and this series seems to be doing just that :) I can not wait to read the next book!

I have read 3 of these stories and fell in love immediately with Ms D'Aigle. I could not read the first Awaken fast enough to get to the 2nd, Shifting. It is more aimed towards a younger teen group, but as an adult I still fell in love with this writer. I absolutely love how her style flows across the pages and into the next book. It is a definite Did Not Put Down! I ot only Loved this story but have recommended it to many of my friends and family.
This book starts out with action, with a set of twins that have a special telepathic link. You fall in love with their struggles as young twins, and with their sense that something is different. Then one day things start changing. You have no choice but to follow along on a journey that never stops!.

The author clearly has some good ideas and writes believable characters, minus the sometimes awkward dialogue (no kid would talk without contractions), but the whole thing turned out kinda sloppy and I'm not referring just to the large number of spelling and grammar mistakes; the plot seems to pop in and out of the story and some of the fantasy elements feel random and a tad silly. That being said, there are some creative twists and situations that promise better future installments. Also, Meghan and Colin are very likeable and the whole campers' atmosphere is well-rendered. Might read the second book to see if it improves.

Meghan and Collin were twins. They have always been able to be read each others thoughts and feelings. Now as they get near their thirteenth birthday, things are changing. At one of their year campsites, their friend Sebastien and family returns for the summer. There are also gypsies this year, and the become friends with Jae. When a beast called Scratcher shows up, Collin is given a magical book, and the gypsies disappear into a tree, It seems like an unbelivable summer faces the foursome. Good read for upper primary and young adult students. Definitely leaves your hanging and wanting the second book in the Fated Saga.

There is magic

This is the first book in the Fated Saga Fantasy Series and the books must be read in order for the story to make sense. The story follows twins, Colin and Meghan as they are about to turn 13. Strange things begin to happen to them, magical things. As they try to figure things out on their own, they are pulled into a position of helping a friend make it back to his family who leave in unusual circumstances.

I think readers as young as 5th grade might enjoy this series though it was written with middle grade students in mind. The book does end in a cliffhanger so be aware that you will want to purchase the rest of the series for the whole story.

I stumbled across this book by accident am I am so glad I did. It is extremely well written and the cause of sleepless nights. I really couldn't put it down.

The plot is about Twins Colin and Meghan who discover that magic is real. They end up in another world full of magic. Colin and Meghan find out things aren't what they seem. It's action packed and highly addictive.

You won't regret reading this book. Suitable for teens up to adults.
This is the 1st book of the Fated series and I immediately got the 2nd book to find out what happened next.

This was an interesting story but really more of a set up for future books. I'm sure we'll be checking out the next in the series. The story was interesting and well written but only one point in the story was ever brought to end leaving every thing else in a cliff hangers.

This is a story of twins who have been adopted and travel with their "uncle". They stay the summer at a camp and run into a band of magical gypsies who travel between worlds. Suddenly the twins find they have some magic of their own. This is an interesting story line that I've not seen in other books.

This is one of the first books I ever read by this author. I was intrigued and caught up in the magic of this book. So much so that I bought the rest of the series (that was out at the time- only thru book 7) and chain read them. It does have a bit of a cliffhanger to draw you into the next book but I didn't mind as I wanted to know what happened next. I recently noticed that there are more in the series so I wanted to review what I have already read and I have plans to read book 8 & 9 and 10 once it comes out.

The Fated Fantasy Saga book #1.
Suitable for young adults.
A story about two young teenagers discovering their inner powers and a people they didn't know they belonged to with some typical monsters called scratchers that sound like something out of a childrens' nightmare.
There is some quite amusing writing in this and it was easy to pick up to read and follow along without having to overly think about it.
There's some good hints about things to come and it does end on a cliffhanger so you won't be able to read it as a standalone story.

This book was very interesting. In the beginning the book was a little slow but, it grows on you throughout the book. How the twin brother and sister have a special bond, and even though they argue they still try to protect each other is amazing. This book series is really great and I think that teenagers should read this if you want to escape from the world for a little while. Especially if you love to read.

Great story filled with intrigue and magic! Rachel M. Humphrey-D'aigle’s unique writing style coupled with the inner and outer voices of the characters makes this a little difficult to grasp - in the beginning. However, there are lots of questions posed and secrets whispered that will pull you into this amazing story! I plan to read the others in the series just as soon as I get time.

I really, really enjoyed this book!
It has a few editing issues and is supposed to be in the middle grade section -- also the dialogue was weird for children in this sge group. Still i loved it!

The story is predictable, it is true to all known set performa's for YA reads and still I recommend it.

It is a nice easy read with twists and turns that kept me reading.

This author has talent. I would love to see her / his books in a few years time.
