Something fishy is going on in River heights--and this time I really mean it! First a burglar breaks into the Nickersons' home and snatches Ned's digital camera, and then a few days later his laptop is stolen. Ned is super bummed--there's no replacing the hilarious photos he snapped of his dad falling out of the boat on their fishing trip. I have a hunch this is more than a run of bad luck and I'm determined to reel in the crook--hook, line, and sinker.

Carolyn Keene is a writer pen name that was used by many different people- both men and women- over the years. The company that was the creator of the Nancy Drew series, the Stratemeyer Syndicate, hired a variety of writers. For Nancy Drew, the writers used the pseudonym Carolyn Keene to assure anonymity of the creator.

Edna and Harriet Stratemeyer inherited the company from their father Edward Stratemeyer. Edna contributed 10 plot outlines before passing the reins to her sister Harriet. It was Mildred Benson (aka: Mildred A. Wirt), who breathed such a feisty spirit into Nancy's character. Mildred wrote 23 of the original 30 Nancy Drew Mystery Stories®, including the first three. It was her characterization that helped make Nancy an instant hit. The Stratemeyer Syndicate's devotion to the series over the years under the reins of Harriet Stratemeyer Adams helped to keep the series alive and on store shelves for each succeeding generation of girls and boys. In 1959, Harriet, along with several writers, began a 25-year project to revise the earlier Carolyn Keene novels. The Nancy Drew books were condensed, racial stereotypes were removed, and the language was updated. In a few cases, outdated plots were completely rewritten.

Other writers of Nancy Drew volumes include Harriet herself, she wrote most of the series after Mildred quit writing for the Syndicate and in 1959 began a revision of the first 34 texts. The role of the writer of "Carolyn Keene" passed temporarily to Walter Karig who wrote three novels during the Great Depression. Also contributing to Nancy Drew's prolific existence were Leslie McFarlane, James Duncan Lawrence, Nancy Axelrod, Priscilla Doll, Charles Strong, Alma Sasse, Wilhelmina Rankin, George Waller Jr., and Margaret Scherf.

Is it me, or are the newer Nancy Drew books getting more and more preachy about the environment? It seems like every book has something about it. I, myself prefer to be able to read a good mystery without being preached at. Rant over.
Review: It was pretty good. Not the best written one, the scene near the end where the villain is revealing their plan was supposed to be scary or creepy, but I didn't feel it at all. The plot was okay, but if you've read a lot of these, a little predictable. I didn't suspect the villain though, good camouflaging writing there.

This is the first modern Nancy Drew book I have read. I read it to compare with the original books. Besides the obvious technology differences, I was most impressed (negatively) by the disrespect of the author toward people! People are described as idiots, morons, and, "lost her mind." In addition, Bess is not fat-shamed directly, but is said to be overweight, but at least not fat. Isn't that the same? What a surprise, after reading several of the old books!

Another pretty good Nancy Drew story. Nothing majorly amazing but a great read none the less. I enjoyed piecing together all the clues Nancy picked up along the way -turns out I was half right as to who the culprit was. I really enjoy it when the story shows how Nancy gets to the bottom of her latest mystery as opposed to just having a massive jump from A to B.

In this one Nancy tries to locate Ned's stolen camera and laptop which leads her to discovering something a little bit more sinister while also training for a charity run she has entered with her friends.

I really enjoyed this one! It was a little too obvious who the culprit was and why they were doing it from the very beginning, but it was still a lot of fun to read.

Also, Bess saves the day again in this book, which always makes me happy. I have such a soft spot in my heart for her.

I feel like this was the BEST Nancy Drew book in the entire series.
Because you can solve it too while you go, it's not just strange clues that make no sense but in Nancy's world does, and eventually she reaches the conclusion which is a wonderful plot but you couldn't really understand how on EARTH she got there.
They are actual clues and you can actually solve the mystery even before Nancy, plus there was lots of things going on like fishing, a campaign, a running "marathon" and mysterious finds. And it was for something serious like environmental damage.
And this was the first mystery I think was the hardest for Nancy, it was also quite adventurous how she gets tied up and couldn't escape.
I just felt it was more adventurous and fun!

To summarize :

Nancy, Bess and George practise for a "marathon" for charity, and also slightly to beat Deirdre.
During this, Ned's digital camera and laptop get stolen after he goes fishing with his dad (where his dad almost caught a large catfish) and during work at the campaign for Solomon (because his dad works for the River Heights Bugle, he helps him part-time). And Mrs Nickerson (Ned's mom) gets hit on the head when the criminal stole the digital camera. Nancy is on the case! Lots of harmful chlorine are ending up in the river, harming the environment...could this be linked possibly to the case? Will Nancy get to the bottom of this? Or will she get tied up ?
Like I said, BEST book in the series by my opinion!!!

A fun book with a feel good factor. A mystery which the gang explores together. Almost as good as the original which is rare for these new books.
