Two centuries after the nuclear holocaust, fortified villes loom in the wastelands, imposing a menacing rule that's shaping the future.
SEARCH AND ELUDE
As a warrior, Kane served the lords of the villes, but on a punitive expedition he'd caught a forbidden glimpse of the future that made him an outcast. In exile with him are Brigid Baptiste, golden keeper of the archives, and Grant, an only friend in a hostile land. Together they've sworn to uncover the secrets of the world's fate... as written in its dark past.
New clues hint that a terrifying piece of the puzzle is buried in the heart of Asia, where a descendant of the Great Khan wields awesome powers.
Coming to grips with the shocking truth behind the new reality...
4 1/2 Stars The action is perfect. Likable characters that are, so far, growing in each novel. I could really see these books on television, like Firefly or Battlestar. A great adventure that I'm happy to go along on.
I'm really liking this series. There aren't that many reviews so I'm going to write some of the foreword from book 3.
Almost 200 years after the global holocaust, Kane, former Magistrate of Cobaltville, often thought the world had been lucky to survive at all after a nuclear device detonated in the Russian embassy in Washington, D.C. The aftermath--forever known as skydark- reshaped continents and turned civilizations into ashes. Nearly depopulated, America became the Deathlands- poisoned by radiation, home to chaos and mutated life forms...
That's just a brief explanation, but I hope it gives you a better idea than the book blurb.
The second book in the Outlander series continues the adventures of Kane, Grant and Brigid as they follow rumors of strange activity in Mongolia. Using a mat-trans gateway, they travel to Russia then Mongolia searching out the source of the story of the Avenging Lama, a new Mongolian leader who is gaining quite a following with strange powers that of course are tied to the Archons.
The action comes fast and heavy as our heroes are betrayed by a Russian who claims to want to help them defeat the Mongolian leader, but who wants the alien power for himself. It’s a fight for their life as they try to escape the madness infecting the Mongolian desert and the ancient city of Khoro-Khato, where a millennia ago, one of the Archons ships crash landed.
More secrets and mysteries abound as Brigid discovers the lost secrets to mankind’s origins within the crashed ship.
The team takes quite a beating in this one too with Kane and Brigid in really rough shape by the end. Brigid specifically has a rough ride in this one, being beaten and tortured a few times by the bad guys.
Some interesting moments during the teleportation as well, as Kane relives some kind of ancient genetic memory that shows the three protagonists have been bound together throughout time.
Overall I really enjoyed this fast paced book, and the one between our heroes grows slowly but strongly throughout.
The second in the new Outlanders series and just as good as the first one. The characters were developed more. James Axler also managed to tie a number of questionable historic events (the Roswell Incident) in with this story. Can’t wait to start book 3
Baptise nearly dies thru out this title. Kane and this crew take on weird religious zealots; Soviet hard liners; insane muti. Insane Muti that can control men using ring to assert mental control over his brothers and fellow tribesman.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
Set in the same world as the Deathlands series. These books follow another set of adventures in the post holocaust world. Good men's adventures series. Recommended
