I love Samantha Young, i love her writing and her stories.
Drip Drop Teardrop is a nice novella, but too short for my tastes.
And even though the story may seem already seen, it is still interesting and nice concept. Though it would have been better if it was longer - because it really had potential to be absolutely great. Don't get me wrong, this novella was really well done. Characters were nice, interesting and well developed, but i didn't really love them, i just liked them.

I may have hated Brennus for doing that to Avery, for giving her in fact only one choice, but he redeems himself in the end... It was interesting to learn of his past, of how he became an Ankou and of other things he went through. Take of your shirt for me honey, will you Brennus ;D?
Which i cannot say for Avery, she was just not so interesting to me as Brennus was (who in fact, stole the spotlight from Avery, mwahahhah). But she was still nice character and i loved her friends, especially Sarah (which second book will be about as it seems) ;)
Anonna was quite irritating and quite b*tchy so yeah, she deserved it.

I really like this short little read.
Avery is a bit of a lost soul, existing in her life, not really living it. She lost her parents in a car accident as a child and now cares for her beloved Aunt Caroline, who is dying of cancer, and goes out with her friends once a month to a club. There is often a guy at the club who watches her silently. He is dark, mysterious and creepy, with a wicked scar across his face, but Avery feels drawn to him. When he approaches her in the club one night for a dance, she accepts and sparks fly between them before he just disappears.
When he reappears, he introduces himself as Brennus and explains to her that he is Ankou – a sort of grim reaper, who escorts souls to the afterlife. Having lost his battle for Avery’s life when he took her parents, he is now bonded to her, having loved and watched her for years. He bargains with her to spend a week with him, getting to know him, to see if she could love him back, for if she can, he can leave his life of service to the dead and her Aunt may be saved. But at what cost?
I really liked Brennus. Described as “exquisite darkness” he is not your average hero. Brutally scarred and shunned by those around him, he has a nasty streak and will stop at nothing to have Avery. But he is a great character, deeply intelligent with a beautiful soft side, and the banter and flirting between him and Avery is awesome!
The story moves at a great pace with the romance and the UST building nicely (including some hot dancefloor action!). And I was really impressed that, for a novella, Young managed to create an intriguing world, give us an involved storyline with lots of emotion and finish off with a satisfying HEA.
Overall, a great way to spend a couple of hours, and I'll definitely pick up the sequel, featuring Avery's friend, Sarah.

Samantha’nın romancelarına güvenim ne kadar tam ise PNR, fantasy kitaplarına karşı da o kadar önyargılıydım. Bir deneme yapmak adına bu kısa kitabı aldım başladım ve isteksizce duygulandım.

I’ve always been fascinated by inspiration. Where does it come from? How do you find it? And once you find it… what in God’s name do you do with it? For authors… this is especially meaningful.
We’ve all heard the stories. “I had a dream and I just couldn’t forget it.” “I had a conversation with a little girl at a park, and I KNEW I had to write it down.” But when it’s all said and done, when the girl has stop talking, or you are risen by the sun, the “how” and the “where” are seemingly insignificant, it’s what you do with that dream or conversation after you have it that really matters.

Yesterday I was feeling a tad beat down by books, (this happens every once in a while when I slam back 6 or so books in a matter of 3 days), BUT knowing that I needed to post something on the blog, I put all of my, (extremely daunting and unbearably LONG) books to the side and opted for something quick, fun and easy on my head. Now, obviously… I didn’t get around to posting a review yesterday anyways, (damn you obligations!) but regardless… I still want to share my thoughts on DDT with you.
When you first start “Drip Drop Teardrop” you are affronted with this statement:
“Dear Reader, I was driving home from work one day on a rainy motorway in Scotland when shuffle on my mp3 player chose the song “Overload” by The Cardigans. As the lyrics and hauntingly creepy but weirdly romantic melody filled my car a story played out in my head. Drop Drop Teardrop, is that story. It’s completely different from anything I’ve ever written before, more lyrical (not surprising since it’s inspired by a song), but I had so much fun writing it and hope you do reading it.”
Now, naturally… this is the point where I put my Kindle down and started Googling, and after (finally) finding the song (and then listening too it) I couldn’t wait to dive in to its 80 page literary rendition.
But first, (just so we are clear) here is what the story is about.

Now he knows Avery is the one to offer him freedom from his obligation to the dead. And he’ll stop at nothing to have her.”
Contrary to what most people have said (because I wouldn’t be anything if I wasn’t contradictory) I think this story was perfect at 80 pages. Normally I’m a “give me more” girl, but I have a feeling that if Ms. Young would have opted for a full length novel, it wouldn’t have been as successful. Why? Because it would have involved WAY too much back-story.
In my opinion, (which obviously is always right. lol) the characters in this story were fairly complex at 80 pages, (Avery is haunted by guilt, and Brennus is haunted by his past actions) and if the story had been slowed down or even plotted out differently, it could have very easily been weighed down by unnecessary self-loathing diatribes. Instead, with Young’s choice to restrain her inner novel-ess (yep, totally made that word up) we are allowed to understand their hearts without being handcuffed to them.
As for the plot itself? While is started off a little cheeky, (think girls night out at a bar) it finally smoothed out into a fairly entertaining story, THAT (for the record) left me a little giddy in the end. The “lust” build-up was exactly that… built up, which is a nice change of pace for short reads like this, and there were just enough surprises and angry alpha male moments to keep the pages turning.
Do I think it is the be all end all for juicy novellas? No.. probably not, BUT it did manage to drag me away from “Clever-Clever Land” (aka my head) long enough to breathe and get back on track.
If you like short, sweet and a little (and yes.. I mean a little) naughty… this one might just be the choice for you.

I thought this book was not bad. I was glad it was not about vampires again. For some reason when I picked this book, I thought it might be about vampires but I was glad and happy surprise it was not. Avery is a great strong character. I enjoyed this book.

Good idea. Not so good execution.
I'm a fan of stories with Death as the love interest. Meet Joe Black, Death Takes a Holiday, and Keturah and Lord Death come to mind. Abandon was one I really didn't like, but we won't go there.
Drip Drop Teardrop is one of those stories where the hot supernatural guy shows up and declares his want for the heroine, then gives her a "choice" to stay or go with him to his supernatural realm. In this case the choice was basically "Come with me or I'll kill your dying aunt early." Blackmail, it's so hot. This guy makes demands about her being his "eternal lover", and then when she finally acquiesces, acts like he was only asking her all along.
Avery: "But I don't have to stay with you for any longer?"
Brennus: "Not if you think you don't love me."
Think you don't love me, huh? I guess he knows her mind better than she does!
Brennus does a lot of creepy things, notably having the house ready for Avery's arrival: her favorite toiletries in the bathroom (which of course is bigger than her apartment), and the closet filled with clothes for her. To Avery's (and Young's) credit, she does point out how creepy these things are. She accuses him a lot of kidnapping and blackmailing and all that stuff. But in the end it doesn't really matter to her. The guy's hot despite a wicked facial scar, he has a huge house and apparently lots of money, and he's good in bed (the sex scene happens off screen, though). Oh, and he's immortal. What more does a girl need?
There were several typos and grammatical errors that detracted from my reading experience. Mistakes such as "entities" when it should have been "entity's" and "allusive" when it should have been "elusive" were annoying. Also, when people in America eat biscuits it's usually for breakfast, and they're not served with tea. Actually, I can sort of forgive that one because Brennus is originally from London. But since the story is told from Avery's point of view, he would not be wearing a jumper.
Anyway, this ebook was free, so that's good.

First of all, a little praise for the author and her lovely books.
Samantha Young... I'd really like to meet you one day. So would my best friend. Let's discuss that someday.
She blew me away in the past with unforgettable characters like Eden, Noah, Ari, Jai and Charlie.
Honestly, I thought Brennus would be some extremely morose, extremely upset-with-his-existence kind of a Grim Reaper, but as it turns out, he was quite wicked, dark, and even playful at times. I really enjoyed reading about him and Avery. Their relationship was quite nice. It was a very small book. Avery was quite a sincere girl. It's sad that in the beginning no one knew her well enough to trust that she was strong enough, but all that changed when she met the intriguing Ankou. Brennus, although a bit twisted and imperfect, was alluring, thoughtful, and pretty sweet at times too. I thought I'd really like if someone like that came to me at the time of death, but he turned out to be pretty wicked and scary, so, that's a no.
I really like how the book started out, and I mean when they danced. It was an eerie, haunting way to start their relationship. When they danced the first time to the song 'You Do Something To Me', I knew I had to actually hear it myself and parallelly read the part. And It was the right decision. It was a beautiful song that fit the scene perfectly. Great song choice, Samantha Young.
I didn't get how Avery knew he was Death... and to be honest, I didn't like the fact that he was ready to take away Caroline's life when Avery left him that one time. And... I guess I just didn't have enough to read to connect with the characters, which is a shame, but then that'd be really unfair of me because it is, after all, a novella.
Maybe I should try reading more novellas. I wish there was more to this, but for a novella, it was good. It can actually be an excellent full-fledged novel. That'd be really incredible.

This has achieved what Abandon could not.
I loved how Brennus was imperfect, not those annoyingly cliched "hot bad boys" which is waaaaaay unrealistic. Sometimes throughout the book I wan't to throttle Avery because she was so ungrateful at one point. But yet again,I couldn't blame her. Her aunt is dying, after all. I could feel her conflicting emotions through the chapters.
But I liked the way she described the . Sometimes during the book I felt that Brennus isn't really that bad, contrary wise, you can see that he cares for her a lot.
Now you should all know that I am a sucker for happy endings. Bittersweet endings just makes me want to cry, and that in turn makes me pretty angry because then my nose runs, then the tissues start coming, and then... well you get the gist. I don't like crying. On the bright side, The ending was a bit of a mishmash, BUT it wasn't annoying sad. It was a more happy, but oh well,that had to happen.
Nowadays with the number of books centered around the myth of Hades and Persephone, Samantha Young creates something unique, and fresh. sure the plot line might be a little similar to others, but her writing is what distinguishes it as one of the best I have read.
I loved how Brennus was imperfect, not those annoyingly cliched "hot bad boys" which is waaaaaay unrealistic. Sometimes throughout the book I wan't to throttle Avery because she was so ungrateful at one point. But yet again,I couldn't blame her. Her aunt is dying, after all. I could feel her conflicting emotions through the chapters.
But I liked the way she described the . Sometimes during the book I felt that Brennus isn't really that bad, contrary wise, you can see that he cares for her a lot.
Now you should all know that I am a sucker for happy endings. Bittersweet endings just makes me want to cry, and that in turn makes me pretty angry because then my nose runs, then the tissues start coming, and then... well you get the gist. I don't like crying. On the bright side, The ending was a bit of a mishmash, BUT it wasn't annoying sad. It was a more happy, but oh well,that had to happen.
Nowadays with the number of books centered around the myth of Hades and Persephone, Samantha Young creates something unique, and fresh. sure the plot line might be a little similar to others, but her writing is what distinguishes it as one of the best I have read.

Drip Drop Teardrop is a very short story at just over sixty pages. The storyline follows a young girl that was orphaned at nine years old after a tragic car accident with her parents. Her loving Aunt takes her in happily, but now a terminal cancer has taken hold and the future for Avery looks to be very lonely. While out with her friends one night every month at the local 4.0 night club; she has several run ins with a mysterious man named Brennus. Little does Avery know Brennus is following her for a reason, and it just might cost her her life. Avery is a simple character, and readers will find it easy to sympathize with her character. Brennus is mysterious and a bit scary. When Avery discovers Brennus is actually death; it is easy to understand why her character would be accepting of his true character. While her impression seems much darker than his true character; with a life surrounded by death it is realistic to believe see would accept existence of a Reaper with ease.The romance of this story just goes to show what a talented author Young is for writing a heart stopping romance. Brennus and Avery offer a intense and swift romance carrying readers through the story effortlessly. Leaving a final question is it worth it all for the someone that you love.

I didn't like this one much at all, which is a shame as I've enjoyed other books by this author. This just gave me the creeps. Not in a "he's death" sort of way, but in a "he's a manipulative, controlling, blackmailing stalker" sort of way.

I read it because, well... Samantha Young. Also because I have incredible patience. Oh, and it's free on kindle. I rolled my eyes a lot, and sorry for not being sorry about my bluntness. 3 stars is probably generous, but 2 stars seems a bit harsh.

Honestly...it was a rather long short story. It was about 115 pages, so it's in that weird spot between short story and novel. I think it technically falls into the category of a "novella", but they have it under "short story" on Goodreads, so we will just smile and nod. *shakes head 'no*
ANYWAYS.
This was a random pick up for me, but I couldn't help but take it into my collection. One...it was free. Two, the cover dragged me in. Three, I wanted to know how and why "death" falls in love. Intriguing if you ask me.
Now "death" is not your a-typical "angel of death". There are many, many of ankous around that help fairy the dead to their afterlife. These ankous are dead people themselves that decided to volunteer for some reason. Brennus is an ankou and he volunteered when he sacrificed himself for a different woman who he taught he loved and she loved him in return. It's pretty sad...she was betraying him the whole time in many ways but one. Poor guy...I can see why he was a wee bit bitter.
HOWEVER, it does NOT give him an excuse to pretty much blackmail Avery into going on a week long date with him. I won't tell you what the deal was, but it wasn't very cool of him. It was rather rude and cold-hearted of him. Honestly, did he think he could win her over so quickly even though she was sexually attracted to him? Granted...he had no choice, because its not like he can take too long of a break from being an Angel of Death and Avery is kind of a snob. I still don't get why he loved her...she's rude, shallow, and bitchy. *shakes my head* That must be his type, because his first wife was a bitch too. Excuse my french. 0.0
I have a love-hate relationship with the ending. It was done well, but it made me sad and a little upset. WHY? *SPOILER ALERT* Why does she have to erased from everyone's memories and lives, because she chooses to stay with Brennus and be immortal? Maybe it's simpler that way, but its so tragic that she pretty much gives up her existences to be with a man she only knew for a couple of months. Meh *END OF SPOILER*

I would recommend this to those that like romance and fantasy and YA (for older YA readers though). I will put a reminder on here that it is technically a short story, so things happen rather quickly. Well, I shall stamp this with 4 stars.

Nachdem ihre Eltern bei einem Unfall ums Leben kamen, wohnt Avery jetzt bei ihrer Tante. Diese ist jedoch schwer an Krebs erkrankt und ihr bleibt nicht mehr viel Zeit. Die wenigen Male, die Avery ausgeht, trifft sie jedes Mal auf einen verstörenden Unbekannten, der trotz seines ungewöhnlichen Aussehens eine große Anziehungskraft auf sie ausübt. Irgendwann steht dieser Mann vor ihrer Tür und offenbart ihr, dass er der Tod ist und er sich in sie verliebt hat. Er bietet ihrer Tante die Chance noch ein langes Leben zu führen, wenn sie dafür einwilligt, mit ihm zusammen zu sein. Avery weiß nicht ob sie ihm vertrauen kann.
Es gibt unzählige Storys darüber, wie der Tod sich verliebt. Eine meiner liebsten davon ist „Rendezvous mit Joe Black“, davon ist Drip Drop Teardrop weit entfernt. Ich empfand es eher als Schreibübung der Autorin, denn ich hatte schon andere Bücher von ihr gelesen, die mehr Sinn ergaben. Ich hatte mich auf eine schöne Liebesgeschichte gefreut, die nicht einmal besonderen Tiefgang hat, sondern einfach nur für einen Wohlfühlmoment auf meiner Couch sorgt. Diese Geschichte war dafür nicht ausgelegt. Viel zu wirr, ohne irgendwelche Sachverhalte aufzuklären. Auch die Figuren verhielten sich irrational. Nach Brennus Geständnis das er der Tod ist und Avery für sich gewinnen möchte und dafür nicht einmal davor zurückschreckt sie mit dem Leben/Sterben ihrer Tante zu erpressen, protestiert diese nur einmal kurz und ergibt sich ihrem Schicksal. Es kommt wie es zu erwarten war, sie verliebt sich in ihn und Ende Gelände. Aber Halt zuvor musste noch etwas Dramatik in die Story, mit dem Auftauchen seiner narzisstischen Exfrau. Das war aber nur ein kurzes Intermezzo und dem Happy End stand nichts im Weg. Irgendwie ließ mich dieses Buch unbefriedigt zurück. Die Einzige Szene die mir wirklich gefallen hat, war als Brennuns Avery mit zur „Arbeit“ nimmt und sie sieht, dass der Tod nicht nur etwas Schreckliches ist. Da konnte ich mich aber auch des Gefühls nicht erwehren, dies bei „Joe Black“ eindrucksvoller beschrieben zu sehen.
Dieses Buch ist nicht repräsentativ für das Talent der Autorin und vielleicht war es einfach nur unmöglich die Komplexität der Story in diesen wenigen Seiten gerecht zu werden. Etwas mehr Charakterentwicklung hätte den Figuren durchaus gut getan.

I picked this one up years ago but never seemed to find the time to get around to it. Which is funny because I'm a huge fan of Samantha Young’s books. Avery life has been tough losing her parents at 10 and being raised by her aunt. Now in college instead of having to worry about what dress to wear Avery is once again facing a loss . Her aunt who put her life on hold to raise Avery is now dying of cancer. Once a month she goes out to dance with her friends in the past she’s seen him but not really seen the stranger with the scar. This time she does dance with him, unknowingly she’s changed her life forever.
The stranger appears at her apartment later that night and tells her he’s a reaper and has been watching her. He’s determined that spending a week with him will cause her to fall in love with him. If Avery does fall in fact fall in love with Brennus by the end of the week she will take her aunts place and her aunt will have the chance to live her healthy life. However it can’t be that simple she has to really love him, and his ex still has her sights set on making Brennus hers.
I really enjoyed the characters I was able to connect with Avery which is a must even in a short novel. I liked Brennus he made mistakes and learned from them, and accepted his new life. Neither one was looking for love but what they found was what they needed. I think the concept for the Ankou (reaper) is really interesting, and the idea that people move on based on what they believe is very clever. I felt the author has did a great job creating a captivating story, for me it was hard to put down and I finished it in just a few short hours. My only complaint it just wasn't long enough I want more, otherwise I enjoyed it.

I was given Drip Drop Teardrop, a Novella as an arc and I didn’t know what to expect. I’ve read The Tale of Lunarmorte trilogy by Samantha Young and absolutely loved it, so I was really looking forward to seeing something new from the author. I wasn’t disappointed. Drip Drop Teardrop is a beautiful read, a character piece about a darker love between two people, a love that may seem odd to outsiders but is perfect for the two people involved. I absolutely loved Brennus, he’s not your typical hero, in fact he’s a bit of anti-hero, but he’s completely charming all the same and I found myself falling for him. Avery is a difficult one. I thought perhaps I wasn’t going to like her character because she seemed so fragile, but the novella really is about her finding herself and I enjoyed the way Young wove the story around that as well as the romance. As a novella it isn’t action-packed, and the plot is simple, but I think Drip Drop Teardrop really is more about the writing and the two characters, and I thought the gothic simplicity of the story really worked. Totally different from the Tale of Lunarmorte trilogy, and I love that in an author. Plus, I think it’s cool that the novella is totally inspired by a song!

Yep, this is definitely for older readers in the YA genre. To be very honest, I’ve had this novella and another two of Ms Young’s books on my kindle which I’ve been dying to read because I’ve only heard good things about her books. Plus, she’s a New York Times and USA Today bestselling author, so naturally I expected something spectacular. Alas, it was not to be. I was rather disappointed with the disjointed and very simplistic writing style the author uses. Because of this, I just couldn’t get into the story. I couldn’t connect with any of the characters and once I read the last page I was happy the book had finally come to an end. More detail went into the adult contents of the story than into the development of the plot. Maybe I just own a very old version of the book and it has been updated since I’ve downloaded it, or maybe it’s because I became frustrated with the very awkward pacing of the story that jumped from point A to Z with no build-up or filler in between. Even so, I’ll read one (or maybe both) of her other books that I have on my kindle, because I’m curious to see what it is that made her a NYT and USA Today bestselling author, as this definitely wasn’t it.

What an adorable novella. It was a fast-paced story, short but well-rounded and well-written. The story is a contemporary romance with a touch of the paranormal in it. Young has done a beautiful job in setting up the catalyst for the story, Avery’s aunt, who is dying of cancer. She is watched by Brennus, a frightening but sexy man who is really an Ankou, one who guides the dead to their afterlife. He wants Avery and offers her a chance to save her aunt if she will accept him.
Though short, this story was very enjoyable. She managed to resolve all conflicts and add a little suspense into the tight storyline. I am impressed with how thorough the story was considering its length. I liked the way the characters progressed and how the tale was so easily propelled forward. The love story was so sweet, too. Avery learns to love a man for who he is inside. A great quick read that I would definitely recommend!

I'm sort of lukewarm about Drip Drop Teardrop. I can say I liked it,
that it was short, and that I personally wouldn't read it again.
I never really connected to the characters. Sure, I found Brennus
sexy, but that's pretty much it. I didn't care much for Avery or her
attitude and her friends that had a presence at the beginning utterly
disappeared at the end.
If it had possibly been longer, I could have learnt more about the
characters, and I could have (possibly) swallowed Avery falling in
love within a week. If only the week had been detailed fully! It's
just, she meets a man that has been watching her in a club every time
she's been there, she's attracted to the man, she is scared by the
man, she is embarrassed by the mans scars, she realizes the man has
been stalking her- Cue heavy panting.

Avery is a broken girl who lived her life in the shadows of who she wants to become. Every thought, every dream is based around what her aunt would do if in that position. She's living, but not really living.
Then she meets Brennus, dark and mysterious with a hideous scar down the side of his face. Brennus has been watching her for some time, and even though she's afraid, she is also drawn to him.
This novella focused on life and death, literally. I liked the idea behind it and the pace moved along at a nice rate. Brennus was a very intersesting character, from his life as a "reaper" to his life before. What I didn't really like was Avery. Yes, I get being scared of something that happens so fast, but her attitude and the way she handles her own life were frustrating. She was a child who was growing up in this false reality.

With every Samantha Young book I read I find myself kicking my own ass for not reading her books sooner! I really love her writing style and fearsome imagination.
Drip Drop Teardrop is such a unique and well crafted story. In fact this story felt like something one of my other favourite authors, Sherrilyn Kenyon, would write. I really loved it and the characters had me desperate for more.
The only problem I had with this book was that it was too short. I was really into it and then it ended. It's the nature of a short story but this was one I think would have made a really amazing full length novel.

If ever I complain that a novella is too short, it has more to do with the actual structure of the story or the character development.
This story could have been much better were it expanded. The characters didn't know each other, and the familiarity between them didn't ring true. I felt that it jumped from event to event too drastically and I really didn't like the journal. It was too easy to move the story along with the journal acting as internal monologue.
HOWEVER - I liked the characters, the overall premise, and the writing style. I will be interested to read more by this author.

Samantha Young could probably write about anything and make it interesting and fun! Even though this was a novella and on the short side, I still felt like I read an entire book. The story had it been a stand alone book could've been drawn out and elaborated on, but I loved how it got to the point and still made me feel like I accomplished reading a complete story. I very much enjoyed this book and if you haven't read anything by Samantha Young yet, you MUST and soon!! She's an amazing author, hands down my favorite (new to me) discovery this year!!

This is a good short read. The reason I only gave it two stars is because it is a stand alone novella and due to its length I could not get a good feel on Brennus & Avery. I definitely did not understand their connection. There was not enough time spent on that and too much time spent in the beginning explaining that Avery is a worry wort that doesn't really have an independent personality.

I thought the book was well written and that it had a good flow but it seemed uneventful and I got kind of bored toward the end of it. Most books have some buildup to the story, a revealing, more buildup, etc. Aside from a small hiccup at the very end of the book it was just flat. I'm disappointed as the idea behind is has such potential.

I loved this short story, it was either cheap or free from amazon. very different to anything i had read befor and simple to follow as it was a youn adult book about death falling in love. if you like paranormal romance the I would recommend it. love Samantha Young's work and have been wanting to read some of her earlier books for a while and I am glad I read this one.

Nejdříve jsem si nebyla tím nápadem jistá a trochu mi dělalo problém se začíst, autorka občas používá méně známá slovíčka. Nakonec jsem se však nemohla odtrhnout a příběh se mi hodně líbil. Sice jsem na podobnou zápletku už narazila u andělů, ale se "smrťákem" to mělo zase trochu jinou šťávu :)

I thought it was a little short, then I read it was a novella. So there's the answer to that complaint.
I'm not going out of my way to recommend this book, but it wasn't awful. It was interesting concept, but filled with the usual cliches. It was a nice little read, but nothing more.

I thought this book was kinda boring. It was too short to even form a bond with any of the characters. I could not wait to finish the book. I was rather disappointed in this book because I read ON DUBLIN STREET by the same author and it was amazing unlike this book.
