Bleacke's Geek

Rate this book
[MF, paranormal, wolf shifters, Alpha heroine, geek hero]

When girl meets geek, the fur’s gonna fly.

Dewi Bleacke is a no-nonsense Prime Alpha wolf. As head Enforcer of the Targhee pack, she’s in charge of Florida. Her assignment is to kill a dirtbag who sold his daughter. She doesn’t expect to find her handsome, albeit geeky, soulmate in the process.

Dr. Heathcliff McKenzie Ethelbert lives a quiet, boring life. A professor at USF, he has no girlfriend, no car, and is a devout vegetarian. So when a mysterious woman with mocha eyes literally drags him out of his booth and then proceeds to have her way with him, it’s not his average night out. When she follows their sexy interlude by abducting him after killing a man, he suspects life has just taken a drastically odd turn.

Now Dewi, her partner Beck, and her surrogate father Badger, have to educate her new “grazer” mate on the ways of the Targhee wolves. “Ken” does his best to fit in. But an old killer lurks in the shadows--the wolf who murdered Dewi’s parents. Can she keep Ken safe, or will her mate prove to everyone that he’s a lot more than just Dewi Bleacke’s geek?

I really wanted to love this read, it had such promise and engaging storytelling. The issues I had with it were more pace and personal preference.

The lead, Dewi, is kind of a bad a$$ chick, and a touch of a dome in the bedroom. Not full on, but she is in control most of the time. I prefer the man to be the Alpha, but that is my preference. Ken is more mild mannered than I am into, he does butch up a bit, but not enough to make me tingle. I will say they are very well suited and you can see why they are a match.

The story here is very slowly paced. There is so much time spent on day to day mundane activities. That could have been condensed and more action added. The big conflict was no huge surprise when it happened. I felt like the foreshadowing was rather heavy handed.

On the upside, the book was very interesting, even the mundane parts held my attention. I love the dynamic of the little family Dewi has going on and the way Ken fits into it so well. It was fun reading those scenes and Badger made my heart happy!

Audrey Lusk is always a delight to listen to, especially on the naughty reads! She has this husky quality to her voice that works oh so well for the smexy bits! Her voice is great for men and women alike, not an easy task! I have listened to many books from her and keep coming back for more!! She gives happy ears every time!
Overall, this was an entertaining read, even if not my typical preference for characters. Without giving any spoilers, I will say that the end result in the relationship made me very happy!! I am hoping this is a series and we will see more of this pack!

Wow. This was an unexpected pleasure to read. Dewi Tadeul, prime alpha enforcer, is just about to close out (by that I mean kill) her assignment when she meets up with her mate, Dr. Heathcliff Mckenzie Ethelbert (Ken for short). She has a split second to decide if she does her Pack enforcer duty OR claims her mate. Yes girls, Dewi can multitask and does both.
Ken is a vegetarian professor who may be gorgeous but doesn't have the popularity or looks to attract women so he's surprised when Dewi grabs him and carts him off declaring he's her fated mate.

This book had me giggling more than anything as Dewi was the dominant one in this relationship. Sure Ken puts up some token resistance and tries to become the macho he man at times but.....

I would have liked to have seen more in the erotic scenes between the two main characters but I'm not really sure that's a fair request as it would have sacrificed the action/adventure parts of this read. But the emotional connection that made these two mates could have used a little more heat in my opinion.

As to the secondary characters. Each of them had their own unique personality that added to the ambiance of this story. Beck, Peyton, Badger. Without them I don't think this story would have been as believable. They added that element that gave this book life.

This is the kind of book you just sit back and enjoy. It's not a deep psychological read that needs to be dissected or argued about as it's pretty straightforward but it's a credit to the author that the journey was so worth the ride.

I went into this with high expectations. I thought it was so refreshing that this wasn’t supposed to be the typical shifter story. She was the Alpha and he was the weak lovable human. But really that only lasted for a short time. They are completely different people by the end of the book. She is now a gushing weak sounding female that “submits” and he has lost his soft geeky ways.
Them keeping the information about her past from her is completely messed up. She has the right to know what happened to her and her parents.

I have absolutely no desire to continue reading this series.

I had pretty high hopes for this one. For one thing Lesli Richardson wrote Jailmates, a book that I love. Then I hear she wrote a shifter/werewolf story where for once it's the heroine who's the shifter while the man is the human. That's rare as fuck to find. But not only that, she is an alpha werewolf too.
This all sounded great to me. I was fucking ready to go.

So now let's list all the reasons why I didn't love it. Some of these are very personal and 100% just my own preferences not being met, but I'm including it all.

1) Pacing and plot. The plot felt scattered and loose. Most of the book there is basically fuck all happening. It's just Dewi and Ken fucking each other's brains out and having small misunderstandings. Not until the last 30%-ish does there seem to be any real conflict.

2) When they first meet Dewi thinks to herself "at least he's taller than me". Look, I know a lot of women prefer a taller man, but I think it's kinda shit to expect a man to always be taller. Short men a really insecure about their height because of stuff like this. Well, maybe not this book exactly, but the general notion of "men must be tall".

3) Their first sex scene is pretty dubcon and she claims him (bites him) without his consent. Ken even comments on it:

"Hurry up," she growled.
He straightened and turned away from her as he tucked himself in. "I'm sorry, but it's not every day I get raped at dinner by a perfect stranger".
Guilt flashed through her. She hadn't given him much of a choice.

It's not a secret that I am not a fan of dubcon. The trope is something I seek to avoid. Normally a dubcon scene this early in the book would've made me DNF immediately, but this was one of the rare MF paranormals with a woman as the paranormal. So I decided to stick it out.

4) She takes him home with her even though he repeatedly says he doesn't want to go with her.

5) The scottish "accent". This is a pet peeve of mine, but I hate when authors write stereotypical accents.
Badger gets this bad.

"Ye, claimed him then, girlie?

or
"Holy Goddess, ye picked yerself a fine one, didn't ye? And despite his scrawny looks, he does seem to have a right fine pair of bollocks hiding in there somewhere."

6) Dewi doesn't like his name and tells him from now on he's going to be called Ken. Controlling as fuuuuuuck. She does relent later and call him Heathcliff, but Ken says that the name has grown on him. She also demands that he quit his job. Which he promises to do when the semester is over.

7) In chapter 3 we have the first "I love you". That happened much, much too quick for me.

8) A lot of "other women" or "sluts" in this story. After being claimed, Ken for some reason becomes suuuuper attractive to his female students. I am not a fan when other women in a story is made out to be sluts to make the MCs look better.

9) Dewi spending more time fucking Ken than getting him familiar with werewolf rules. This leads to him accidentally triggering Dewi at one point, which could've gotten him killed if she wasn't knocked out.

10) Slight BDSM dynamic in some of the scenes where Dewi is the submissive. Look, I know that dominant/alpha people can be submissive in the bedroom. There's nothing wrong with that. I am just so tired of it always being the woman who's the sub. It's probably because I identify as a domme, but I just want to have more women be dominant sexually. I was hoping that'd happen with the alpha werewolf girl. So this was a disappointment for me.

11) Ken gets Dewi to submit to him outside the bedroom.

Peyton looked back to Ken. "The man who's got the balls to make my sister submit to him, especially when he's just a human, is definitely someone I'm glad is a member of this pack."

and

"The only one you'd answer to is me [Peyton]." He smirked and pointed at Ken. "Well, and him, of course, but that has nothing to do with the pack."

So in the end my alpha woman dreams were shattered. She still ended up being less alpha/dominant both in the bedroom and outside of it than her male love interest. She was still alpha, of course, just less than Ken apparently.

12) Dewi, Peyton and Trent's parents being talked about as amazing when:

"They loved their sons, but Dewi was their miracle. It was no secret to anyone that she was their little princess. You wouldn't find a fiercer mother than Chelsea. But she longed fer a little girl to spoil rotten."

Since when having clear favourites amongst your children become okay? In my mind this makes them pretty awful parents, but everyone in the story seems totally cool with this.

13) Let's end with the least serious. In many of the sex scenes it's just written that "she had 3 orgasms before he finished". Like, this appeared to often that I started to wonder if 3 is the magical orgasm number.

Alright, that's it. Didn't like the book and don't recommend it. If you're going to read a Lesli Richardson book, then start with Jailmates and not this one.

DNF Checked out of this one on page 6 when the unpleasant FMC was interrogating the homophobic MMC.
“I asked if you’re married.”
Looking obviously puzzled, he shook his head.
“Girlfriend?”
“No.”
“Gay?”
That apparently motivated him to righteous indignation. [My italics]
“Look, just because I’m an academic and single doesn’t mean I’m gay!”

The idea for this book is really great! For that alone I would give it 4 stars! But the reason for 5, even if I would have liked it to be longer and with more explaining, are the two protagonists.
Here the roles are inverted: the alpha is the woman and the beta is the man! I loved how it was told!
The heroine is very funny: she a tough alpha kick-a$$ wolf shifter, while the hero is a meak professor with spectacles and geeky nature, full of insecurities due to his chilhood and his moron step-brother.
But when she finds him in a bar, she doesn't doubt for a minute that he's her mate and that he's well worth her love. There's no hesitation, no I-love-him-but-I-can't; she's forward with everything and she's doing everything she can to help him and to let him know how much she value him. A great step forward compering it with other similar novels where the hero is tortured and fighting his attraction.
The hero is also fun in his own geeky way. At first he's fighiting the notion of shifters' existence, but when he witnesses the shift... he faints!! It's sooo fun!!! A fainting hero! WOW! He's also a vegetarian!!! Hilarious!
I have a complaint... a strage one... there's too much sex.. *blushing*
I know, I know, it's not normal, but I would have preferred to have a little less of it and more of all the other fun staff this book has supplied.
I don't know if this is a start of a series, but if it is, I'll be definitiely read the eventual other books! :D

1.5, round up for competent mechanical writing

This was recommended by someone in a fantasy readers' group because a member had asked for books in which strong women protect nerdier guys. I loved the idea and when I saw it was free on Amazon I picked it up and read it soon after. The problem is that, while it fits the description of strong woman protecting nerdier guy, it doesn't actually subvert the patriarchal, women as the weaker sex script and suffers greatly for it.

Let me be clear. If I pick up a book about an female alpha werewolf falling in love with a nerdy, vegetarian university professor, I want her to be the stronger party. I want it to actually subvert, not just flip the gender dynamic. Bleacke's Geek doesn't even try.

Dewi is the only ever female Prime Alpha (the alphas' alpha), stronger than even normal alphas and even more unable to submit to others. Excerpt...she's really not. Dewi, sweet special Dewi, really just wants to submit to her weaker human husband (something no male prime would ever do, even to another alpha), cries a lot, and ALL the men in her life coddle and protect her. They keep information from her to keep her safe and unstressed. Information they tell Ken immediately so that he too can protect her from it.

I found the whole thing worse that being given a weak heroine. Here we were promised a strong one and then it was taken away. But I'm not supposed to notice.

Then there is the abuse problem. One of the things I complain about most in reviews is the easy use of abuse of women as a plot device. Here we have Dewi's parents murdered, her mother raped in front of her first. Dewi almost killed as a child. Dewi kills a man who has sold his daughter into sexual slavery and has plans to do the same with the other two, she saves a woman whose husband has tied her up and is beating her, Ken's mother is murdered in a bout of domestic abuse, and the man who killed Dewi's parents shows up to rape and murder her. That's a lot of unrelated cases of abused women in less than 200 pages. I think I'm justified in wondering if Richardson simply can't think of a single other plot device to use, because that is some pretty weak storytelling.

Additionally, the ONLY other women in the book are faceless waitresses and the co-ed students in Ken's class who go slutty and throw themselves at him as soon as he mates a werewolf. One of whom he can't remember her name, but remembers masturbating to the memory of her triple Ds several times. (And this is a man I'm supposed to like?) So, every woman but Dewi is either a victim or sexually disposable, or a sexually disposable victim. This I can do without, especially from female authors. I simply expect more and better.

The writing and editing is competent, even if the author makes some odd stylistic choices. The first sentence of the book has no verb, for example. But if this is the authors idea of a good story I have no desire to read anything else they every write.

This was a very good story. I liked Dewi and Ken and enjoyed their story a lot. I was actually surprised to find that I have read a book by this author before because apparently this is a pen-name for Tymber Dalton who's work I already liked. :D

Dewi is a prime alpha in her wolf shifter pack and also the head enforcer. Dewi's parents were killed when she was very young. She was raised by her brothers and the rest of the pack but due to her being a prime alpha (as well as some other reasons) Dewi had to be sent away from the pack's home in Idaho and settled as an enforcer for the pack in Florida.

Dr. Heathcliff McKenzie Ethelbert (aka Ken...Dewi shortens it to this after they meet) is a professor in Computer Science. He didn't have a great life growing up, mostly due to his stepfather and stepbrother. His stepfather killed his mother and is now in jail but his step brother still makes his life miserable. Ken likes his job but has never had a woman stick around and mostly has a boring a lonely life.

Dewi has been sent after a shifter that sold his daughter to a drug dealer and had plans to sell off more of his daughters. Dewi was tasked with killing him since there's no jail system that will work for shifters and the guy can't be allowed to continue. She finds him at a pub and is planning how to take him out when she catches a scent that attracts her very much. She realizes that the scent is her mate and now that she's found him she won't be able to concentrate on anything else until she's claimed him. She doesn't have much choice but to do it quick if she wants to get the guy selling his daughters before he escapes. She finds Ken in a booth and as soon as she makes sure he's single and straight she drags him to the ladies bathroom and claims him. He's rather freaked out but a beautiful woman coming on to him unexpectedly and is even more freaked as the night continues and Dewi shoots a man before dragging Ken to her house. Even though he knows he should be afraid and want to go home, part of him is drawn to Dewi and doesn't want to leave her side.

Dewi takes Ken home and introduces him to her "Uncle" badger (the man that raised her). Badger and Dewi proceed to tell Ken about shifters and the basics of what he's walked in to. When Dewi shifts into a wolf in front of Ken he does faint but overall takes the whole shifter things pretty well. Ken is more convinced that Dewi will come to her senses and realize she doesn't want Ken. He's already falling for her (yes, it's a PNR and there is insta-love going on) and is crushed at the thought of not being with her. It takes Dewi some work to convince him she wants him and is falling for him in return. Even once she's had some success, Dewi realizes that overall it'll probably take time more than anything else to convince Ken that they're together for good. It's interesting seeing Dewi and Ken settle into their relationship as well as seeing Ken settle into life with a bunch of shifters (especially with him being a vegetarian and hating guns...). I liked seeing them come together and finding just how well they fit together. There is some drama and some unexpected danger but everything gets settled nicely and Ken and Dewi start planning their HEA together.

This was a very enjoyable story. I liked both Dewi and Ken and can't think of any major complaints about either of them. The story was what I expected but yet it wasn't boring and kept me engaged to the point that I was still thinking about the story when I got pulled away from reading for work. Overall, this was a very enjoyable story and I'm looking forward to trying more of this series. I'd recommend this book. :D

A surprisingly good shifter romance I thoroughly enjoyed. The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars was because I really disliked Dewi in the beginning. Ken was great, but Dewi was unnecessarily mean to him when they met. I understand she was in the middle of an important job, yadda yadda yadda, but that wasn't really an excuse to be so rude to the person who is supposed to be your soul mate, when his world has just been turned upside down. I felt really bad for him, and she was a royal B with an itch for a while.

After I warmed up to her, however, it proved to be an enjoyable read, with an interesting take on the shifter-mate thing. I liked how Ken stood up for himself, even in the face of a strong alpha. I kept thinking he was going to end up being part shifter, but even with him being only human, he was strong enough to dominate sometimes.

Great story, h is a super Alpha, so has extra powers. When the fierce h scents her human mate and finds out he's a puny vegetarian academic, it's a mis-match. She does love him, he's flattered but so unsure of himself and how would fit in with her life - with her lover, and her pack. Something strange starts to happen to both of them, they are changing and don't know why. Great intro to series.

I liked this book partly because it turned the whole alpha werewolf searching for mate trope on its head. The alpha werewolf in this case was female instead of male and the "damsel" was a geeky comp-sci college professor.

There was some humour, some tension and the solving of a decades old mystery.

Wow, I did not expect to like this book as much as I did as I am a BIG alpha male fan. In this book, the female is the Alpha. Good world building. Read it straight through and liked all the MCs and friends/family. I will definitely continue the series. Very intrigued.

Dewi threw me off at first...with how boldly she claimed her mate Ken. But we slowly get to see her more vulnerable parts and that was much more likable.
Ken also comes into his own and is able to give something to Dewi she never had before...

Interesting world building and I'll continue the series for sure.

DUBIOUS CONSENT

I went into this book expecting the heroine to be a badass-alpha-female and the hero to be an unassertive-geeky-male. I assumed that their relationship would be similar to that of a Dom-sub, which is common among the “alpha meets human mate and kidnaps them” trope.

Instead, it felt like the author was trying to shove down my throat the fact that Dewi was a badass. To get her point across, she made Dewi the literal embodiment of all of the “tough chick” cliches. Her clothes, attitude, thoughts, and behavior screamed it. In my opinion, it was overkill.

As I said already, I was expecting a Dom-sub relationship, which is dependent on mutual respect between partners. The Dom is not supposed to be a bully or predator, which is how Dewi acted in my opinion.

The heroine mated the hero without his consent. He was reluctant to have sex with her, but she was determined to mate him. Knowing that any protests the hero had would be overruled by his natural instinct/urge to mate with her once sex was initiated, she took advantage of his confusion and initiated it.

“His obvious confusion immediately transformed to passion as nature and need took over.”

She took advantage of him. Let’s not forget that after the fact, he repeatedly refers to the “mating” as rape.

“Not that he’d ever had a woman practically rape him like this before. Okay, so not rape, he damn sure didn’t mind what she was doing to him once he got into it.”
*he wasn’t enjoying himself until the mating instinct kicked in

“I’m sorry, but it’s not every day I get raped at dinner by a perfect stranger.”

“You told me? Sorry, I don’t remember that. Would that be before or after you raped me?”

“You two listen to me. I was minding my own business, eating dinner and working. Then I got abducted, raped, and forced to flee with a murderess.”

And what are the heroine’s responses to his accusations? I’m glad you asked:

“You damn sure didn’t fight me. I’m sorry, but I don’t have time to explain. Later. At home.”

“I’m sorry. I didn’t have time to explain.”

That’s all she has to say for herself? He didn’t fight her? She didn’t have time to explain?

I understand that this is a paranormal romance, and that you can’t apply human concepts, laws, or morals to the supernatural world. However, it feels like the author is relying on some implied shifter-common-knowledge—which is, “you can’t rape your mate”—to pardon the heroine’s actions. It too closely resembles the “you can’t rape your husband/wife” defense—which is a lie.

Let’s not forget that the heroine uses her ability to “compel”, to force the hero to follow her commands when he resists her. She takes away his free will so flippantly, even when the situation isn’t life threatening, just because it’s easier for her to get what she wants.

The entire foundation of their relationship is just too icky for me. It doesn’t matter if the rest of the book is perfectly written, with a loving relationship, and great character development. I don’t want to invest my time reading this story.

I was dying laughing the whole time. I love when books go back and forth between points of view, when it gives something to the story. And doesn't do it for a ton of characters unless it gives something to the story. It was a nice light read that relaxing. If you're looking for something to read while your on break from the heavy stuff then this is the book for you.

Have you ever wanted to be sitting in the pub, marking essays and have a hot sexy biker chick come up to you? yes? oh good me too! Ok now she shoots a pub patreon, and rapes you in the toilet. Still on board? tentitive maby?? ok! Now she kidnaps you in her sports car, and takes you to her mansion. Where you will then proceed to have hot werewolf sex, and be laughed at by her pack for being a vegan, but ultimately you come out ontop. How are you feeling now? if your answer is a little turned on, and slightly confused this book might be for you.

I am not sure if the author was aware of this when writing this, but this is actually a pretty solid guy's fantasy lol. Geeky guy dragged out of his mundane life as a school teacher, by a dominant sexually adventurouse wolf girl, who growls, bites and teaches you to shoot. yes please? I know for a fact, allot of guys really like this kind of fantasy, its why scot pilgrim vs the world is such a popular film among lads. So if you can get past the kind of, sort of, not really... raped in the toilet part, this book is worth giveing a shot if u like this kind of dominant possesive girlfriend dynamic occasionally in your romance!

This was a refreshingly different shifter book where the FMC is the stronger alpha shifter with a "weaker" human MMC as a mate. I quite liked the dynamics in this book and though there wasn't really an over-arcing plot to the book it was a fun read. Though this was an insta love story and this happens in the course of a week, we see that both Dewi and Ken face issues because there was less talking over the course of the week and more knowing each other in the biblical sense. I appreciated that as I did want to see a consequence of just relying on the magnetism that drew them both together.

The gripe I do have is that being with Dewi is turning Ken into more of an alpha and it kind of undermined the whole the FMC is stronger then the MMC vibe this book has going. It's like her Prime Alpha-ness was being undermined towards the end, but let's see how that plays out in the other books.

I never have really considered myself a big PNR or shifter romance fan but after I saw a few keywords about this book, I was excited to pick this one up.

Keywords that had me 1-clicking this book:
✨Alpha female
✨Soft, cinnamon roll geeky hero

Those keywords are not something that I, personally, usually see for shifter romances. After I saw them I just knew I had to pick this one up and it did not disappoint! I loved the twist on the dynamics in this book!

I love Ken sooo much!! His shift and growth in this book made me so soft for him.

I can relate to Dewi and her alpha female self a lot too!

And the two of them together?! 🥺🥺 My new favorite ’ship! 💗 Also when they get together 😉, WHEW! Fireworks 💥🧨🎇 SO HOT! 🥵

If you are like me and think PNR/shifter romances aren’t for you, maybe give this one a shot and you might surprise yourself.

I liked the twist of bad ass chick and clueless instalove guy. It was so very damn mushy though. Seriously gag worthy. And once the sex started it didn't stop until hallways through then it abruptly ended. Shrug.

Going back over my words, it sounds so much worse than it was.
I've read 'So much worse!'
This was just so ... bland and boring ... and when I was expecting this sassy comedy ... a real let-down.
****

I really wanted to like this!
Wasn't too bad to start, though in the back of my mind was that if the genders were reversed, I'd be screaming blue-murder.
But I reminded myself it was tongue in cheek, with a touch of humour.

Problem was, wasn't finding any humour, just kinda weak, sad attempts.
Still the story line started out interesting ... until you included the sex every few pages, with juvenile language that you expect from those with no real attachments or respect.
They never made love, had sex, got it on, or simply had a really good time. Nope, they wanted to f*ck, referred to in their heads and out loud as such. Kinda like teenagers or cliche biker talk.
No romance needed, they had insta-mate thing, that made each fall madly in love, no thought, no brain required. Not just insta-sexual attraction/lust, noooo, this was luuuve!

I liked the other characters, even enjoyed the world they were building. But couldn't figure out the point behind the story?
Couldn't be a romance, as all the heavy work was done, couldn't be an erotica, again, no doubts, no work required, no sexual tension. Besides, they were just f*cking.

Previous background issues were mentioned, but no clues, plot twists, or build-ups included.
Did have one connected action scene at the end, but not enough to make all the f*ing scenes worth it..
Kinda a relief it turned out so much shorter than expected.
The end of the book was filled with 3 previews and promotional info.

I'm reading this as part of a three book bundle. I read an excerpt from this book when it first came out and wanted to read the rest of it. I finally did when this bundle was made available. I really enjoyed this story and the premise of it. Dellis Tadewi Bleacke, Dewi for short, is an enforcer for the Targhee pack. She is an alpha female who is a tough kick a$$, take no prisoners kind of woman. And she has finally found her mate. Geeky, mild mannered Dr. Heathcliff McKenzie Ethelbert, Ken as Dewi has nicknamed him, is Clark Kent to her Aeon Flux. This is the first book in the Bleacke Shifters series and I can tell you the series only gets better. There are some steamy sex scenes, awesome action, mystery and intrigue. If you like werewolf-shifter romance this series is definitely a must.
January 2019: Just as fun to read the second time around. I own a single ebook of this as well.

I was really exited to read this book but now that I have read it I find that it is rather stupid. The H is ment to be smart but he isn't, we'll not what I read of him. I'll be honest I only read the first couple of chapters then I couldn't read anymore. One of the reasons is that the guy didn't seem to have a backbone he was like ill do whatever you want me to, he even said this a hour after meeting her, “He’d give her anything she wanted, if only he knew she really meant what she said.” Another reason was that the girl expected him to do what she wanted like he was a human sized puppet.
I liked the plot idea through and the blurb made me interested but it was just the charters that I didn't like. :(

Books like this are why I still wade through the fetid swamp of shifter romances. Yes, it was predictable, and had a lot of the standard tropes. But, it was the interaction between Ken and Dewi that I loved. One of the best depictions of love at first sight I’ve read.

Their love felt real, and the challenges realistic. Neither of them knew what the hell to do, but worked through it because they really truly cared.

Plot was meh, but the relationship carried the book, so I didn’t even mind.

Made me laugh - a lot

Great balance of of action, romance, steamy encounters and comedy. Laughed out loud at most of the blunt and snarky comments that come out of Dewi’s mouth. Also found the geeky hero, Ken, to be an endearing character.... especially in the strength he developed due to his love for Dewi. Look forward to reading both more of this series as well as other books by this author.

Awesome story!!

Well I read the second book before this one. Searched my "library" and found this one. Yippee! Totally awesome characters and story! Had me laughing and then crying. Really seriously great reading! Love when you can get completely involved with what you're reading! Writing flows taking you into the story and keeps you there. I would definitely recommend!!!

I like the start, mainly because the relationship dynamic in this book is not something you see a lot - but as the book progressed, of course they had to become a more "traditional" couple:

A howling good time

Dewi is a female Prime Alpha wolf shifter. She's something that hasn't existed before. At 5'5" she's not that short, but her personality makes her seem like an Amazon. On a mission to erase scum she comes across the most appealing scent. For an aggressive she wolf, finding her mate is a mixed bag. Discovering her mate is a vegetarian academic human? Well, at least she doesn't have to worry about her status being shaken in the pack. But, a grazer??
Heathcliff has never cut a swath through the ladies. So imagine his surprise when this sexy woman comes over to him, drags him from his booth and into the bathroom. What happens next blows more than his mind. Then came teeth? What? Then he's packed up and bundled into her car and brought home like a stray. Just what the holy hell is going on? We're those fried mushrooms a port key that transported him to another planet?

Spoilers ahead.
This was so much fun. A strong female character, that isn't a Mary Sue or a Bitter Betty is like finding a unicorn. She's not perfect. She has a temper. There's decent world building. Granted, it's set in modern times here on Earth. There's just some unknowns living here with us. The only difference I don't quite grasp is the difference between an alpha and a prime alpha. But, the characters are great. I loved their interactions. Even the background characters are amazing. I was starting to worry they I've read so much that I'm too critical. This book was a perfect find to remind me how much I really love reading. Now I'm off to book 2.

Oh before I do so, mild trigger warnings. There are some intense situations and rescues where women have been hurt, usually beaten. There's also the way her mother was killed. Trigger warnings for abuse, rape and torture. It isn't fully described. (I'd love for a character, or their backstory, to not have rape as a plot device. My only complaint.)
