The famous duel! I think it does a better job than the movie did, in fact - though it is still a little hard to follow, what with camera angles and too little distance.

There are some intense and important scenes in this volume, mostly told in cartoonish expression! However, the action in this volume is what truly stood out for me, especially the duel between Vader and Kenobi!

I read this in a flash. This is actually the volume that caught my eye all those years ago and made me excited to read this series. The epic confrontation of Obiwan and Vader, handled as only a manga can.
And boy does Tamaki do a fantastic job. You can see aspects of samurai and Japanese culture in his drawings, as well as how he frames the combat in the manga. It's refreshing, and also adds a certain level of familiarity to anyone who reads manga. The fact that the style of sword fighting used in the movie contained kendo just makes it that much better.
As with the others in this series, the art is fantastic, especially the technical drawings involving the droids, ships, and deathstar itself. The level of detail is astounding and really draws the eye. I often found myself pausing in my reading and just looking over the sheer detail in each frame. This is something I would honestly will look at again in the future.
This is a good book to pick up, and if you are enjoying the series, then you will enjoy this one as well. It's my favorite out of all of them so far, and I have to say I was not let down from how I remembered it when I saw it all those years ago. I really wish they had been able to do the fight scene in the movie much how it was done in this comic.

The penultimate book in the Manga adaptation of ANH begins with the Millennium Falcon trapped on the Death Star, follows the rescue of Princess Leia, the confrontation between Darth Vader and Obi-Wan and ends with the escape from the battlestation.
Presumably readers should know what they're in for here by this point; a spot-on adaptation of Episode IV in the manga art style. If you're not on board for either of those things, then this isn't the book for you.
Whilst this is probably the least enjoyable of the three books so far, mostly due to being entirely set on the Death Star and the lack of variety which comes with that, it does have one of the best single scenes of the adaptation; the duel between Vader and Kenobi.
In the movie the duel was a fairly tame affair with Alec Guinness poking his lightsaber vaguely at David Prowse who, in turn, was trying desperately not to deck the national acting treasure a second time. Here, however, the duel is given the full dramatic samurai vibe that manga excels at and the depiction of Vader throughout is brilliantly menacing. You get a much better sense of him being an embodiment of dark power when you can mostly just see his silhouette and his helmet's lifeless eye holes.

"Really liked it." - 4 out of 5 star rating.
Star Wars: A New Hope... but in Manga form!
These are awesome. I love the [Japanification] of this Star Wars film as a whole and characters contained therein delivered here. They were ever so kind to hybrid this, with Americanizing it where we read the "comic" from left to right and front to back, versus traditional Magna that is top right to left down and back cover to front.
They even provide a tutorial with R2 and C-3PO at the very beginning to explain how-to-read. Love it.
But yeah, these are as simple as that. Star Wars: A New Hope flipped into a Japanese inspired, anime-style, comic/magna hybrid that are truly awesome.
The only reason why I'm not giving these a 5-star rating is that they ultimately don't offer anything new and are a 1:1 conversion of the film.

**Warning: I'm assuming everyone who wants to read this and other reviews in the series has at least seen A New Hope once. Therefore, I will not be hiding any "spoilers".**

*The Gush*
Again, this is the same as has been iterated above. The art, dialogue, etc. is all very well done. The lightsaber battle between Vader and Kenobi is...greatly enhanced and looks really cool. The artist really knows how to used the absence of the black lines to enhance an already amazing picture. No where is this more apparent than Vader's death blow to Kenobi. A solid white page with the two characters appearing only halfway up with the bare minimum of them and the lightsaber slashing through. It is truly striking. This also contains two of my absolute favorite lines from the movie: "She'll hold together....You hear me, baby; hold together" and "Great kid! Don't get cocky!" I laugh every time Han says that; pot meet kettle.

I know I lot of students prefer a manga edition to a typical print edition (even if the movie is the best)
