A Life of Faith: Millie Keith #4

Millie's Faithful Heart

Rate this book
Millie opened her diary. Yes, here it is, she said. Jesus, please hold my heart in Your hand. Don't let me give it or any piece of it away. I want YOU to give it away in your time, to the right person. Please hold it tight, lock it up, and keep the key. October 8, 1836. Millie sighed. I will be sixteen in a week. Sixteen is too young for romance, isn't it? Millie quickly snapped her diary shut. Lord, I gave you my heart. Don't let me take it back and give it to another! In 1837, when Millie Keith's parents sent her south to spend the winter with rich relatives, they gave her three pieces of honor your parents, honor God in all you do, and give your heart to Jesus. Millie thought those things would be easy, but alone at Roselands Plantation she finds her convictions tested in ways she could not have imagined. Will the high society lifestyle of the Dinsmore family change Millie?

Millie's Faithful Heart
By: Martha Finley
Rating: 3.5 stars
Ages: Best for girls 11 and 12 through 13 or 14

Millie's Faithful Heart is delightful and incredibly fun. Millie learns some very good lessons in this book, and she also accomplishes some brave deeds, all while trying not to fall for Charles Landreth, whom she just met in book #3.

Charles is fun! Honest, he is. The way he acts around Millie (or just in general!) is so charming and smile-worthy. I loved him as a character.

Millie must brave the world alone and stand on her own two feet. She doesn't have any immediate family members around at Roselands that she can talk with about the numerous things swirling about in her life. She has to trust her own judgment (and trust God!) more than before. She makes an incredibly brave decision in the end that would be hard for ANY young lady to make - she must tell the man she loves that she cannot marry him. It would be heart-breaking, honestly, and Millie stands strong in a way that shows her trust and faith in God. Millie really grows up, I think, in this novel. She has to make her own decisions without consulting her parents or friends - decisions that are bitterly hard and could have serious consequences.

Another great novel in the Millie series! Recommended for girls looking for a clean read that has a strong heroine with enormous faith in the face of tremendous adversity.

*Update review in 2023: I think this is now my favorite one in the series. I never realized just how evil and manipulative Aunt Isobel is! Millie does a good job of loving her but also speaking the truth. This book highlights the layers of complexity a Christian who doesn't believe in slavery would have to navigate in the 1830s. Millie is a courageous and creative abolitionist! The book is full of the gospel, and points out that sin is not a color of the skin and but a heart condition. FREEDOM is also a heart condition! Also CHARLES -- what a great character. Kersten Hamilton, you are a brilliant genius (the person who adapted this series). Millie is my BEST fictional friend in the world and has helped me grow in my own faith journey even now as an adult.

Millie's adventures at Roselands are truly enchanting and heart-wrenching at the same time. I love all the cool believers she meets in the South, and the historical touches as she travels through young America in the 1800s. It's such a realistic picture of what it looks like when you leave home for the first time. Millie doesn't have her parents or Aunt Wealthy to talk to, she must put her trust and dependance completely in the Lord.

Not my cup of tea, genre-wise. However, this is the only book that my Grandmother ever bought and therefore it was read and is staying with me forever. Religious or not.

Yes, I finished that a long time ago and sorta forgot about Goodreads. XD But, for a children's book, I liked it well enough to continue in the series. ;)

wow......I just love these books! they are filled with wonder, excitement, laughter, sorrow, and joy. Martha Finley did a fantastic job in writing the Elsie Dinsmore and Millie Keith books!
when I read this book, I was amazed at how I grew in my faith as Millie grew I hers. this was the first series in which I felt as if I was there, a part of the Keith family.
I highly recommend this book for 10+......and when you're done with them, you can put them in your hope chest for your future daughters to enjoy :)
this is 4 out of 8......so don't miss reading all the books!

Loving someone you can't have. Making life or death decisions that will destroy relationships. Facing choices that will change the course of her life forever. These are the kinds of situations in which Millie finds herself in this book. I admire her courage.

Also, Elsie is the sweetest character ever!

I loved every single one of the Millie Books! I read them when I'm sick of reading or if I can't sleep or if I'm having a bad day. She grows up through the books so I'm always her age. :)
