A True Native demon born directly from the Pit. Sent by his Superiors to pluck the world’s wicked fruit and send those souls screaming to Hell in a hand basket. In the gritty red light district of a nameless city, he will encounter his first taste of salvation.
Annie.
A Swedish beauty whose seductive profession belies her intelligence and tenderness. She will capture the demon’s heart from afar, coaxing him to ignore his wicked duties, if only to be seen and felt by her. In this most unlikely of places, mortal and demon will save each other, heart and soul. But redemption is forbidden to a born servant of Hell, putting all that Faust holds dear at terrible risk…
From dark fantasy author Danielle D. Smith comes a gritty paranormal tale of redemption through love...the first of Danielle's books to be lavishly illustrated by the author.
My first fully illustrated novel...a huge project and a dream come true. I'm incredibly proud of this one and hope that everyone enjoys it as much as I enjoyed working on it. It has been a labor of love to bring the illustrated story of Skriker's parents to the world. This novella is most certainly my "art and soul". :-)
What a fantastic read and a perfect book to come out with after her latest new release Black Dog and Rebel Rose. The story was a fun and fast pace read, I couldn’t turn the pages fast enough.
I was immediately drawn in to the demon side of Faust and fell in love with his sexy character as he fell for Annie and learned he could have feelings and love. I loved Annie too and admired her determination to get through life and her self-preservation even though she had been through many hardships. The chemistry and erotic scene between Faust and Annie was electrifyingly HOT. I loved the whole demonic realm vs. the angelic realm saga and thought the author was brilliant in how the HEA explains how her hero SKriker from Black Dog and Rebel Rose came about.
The illustration’s throughout the book were absolutely beautiful. After reading this, I just wanted more. GIVE ME MORE!!!!
In this, her newest release in the sensational Angels & Demons series featuring those hunky, ultimate bad-boy denizens of Hell, we are privileged to meet Faust. An immortal member of an elite band of Demons tasked as Soul Collectors, Faust is a True Native – not a fallen angel but rather born of evil to his calling. For thousands of years, Faust has been doing his job, wrecking havoc and chaos on Earth, leading sinners astray, and delivering their soiled souls to his dark Master. That is, until the day he first encounters Annie, a stripper, in an alley behind a seedy joint called In The Neon. As Faust becomes beguiled by the lovely and winsome Swedish beauty he soon discovers that Annie is an enigma and a perplexing contradiction wrapped up in a package that is alluring and mysterious to the jaded Shadow Man. Faust is called to follow a different course – a rocky road, on a slippery slope, fraught with peril, that could lead him to his ultimate destruction or, possibly, eventual salvation.
Annie has never encountered anyone like Faustie before. Darkly handsome with a quiet, subdued earnestness that appeals to her bookish nature, she feels safe and cherished when he is near…until the horrific night when she is brutally attacked by a jealous client. The raging demon, with his fearsome visage, terrifies Annie and she even questions her own sanity, for surely such a creature lives only in nightmares…and yet…
The story of Annie and Faust adds yet another branch to the genealogical tree being masterfully created in the mind of the artistically gifted author, Danielle Smith. The voice and overall tone of this new novella is dark, raw, and fearlessly inspires readers to challenge themselves and question their own personal moral deficiencies – after-all, Faust is no super-hero disguised as a mild-mannered citizen. For thousands of years his actions have left devastation in his wake. Yet, now, Annie, flawed though she may be, unwittingly becomes the vessel of his redemption.
The narrative is poetic with a unique musicality all its own. The words will haunt you. This darkly disturbing, yet beautiful love story is also illustrated throughout with images that will become seared into your mind even as your synapses struggle to process the chilling repercussions, as evil’s might is brought forcefully against the newly-reformed Native Son, Faust. I also recommend Danielle’s Psyche’s Gate, the story that started it all, and Black Dog and Rebel Rose. All are graphic, erotic, horror entries that will appeal to niche readers with a desire to experience the extraordinary. The language and situations can be raw and may invoke uncomfortable feelings. Though I would like to point out that Psyche’s Gate is much less sexually graphic than the later books. Each of the three books can be read and enjoyed alone without any loss of continuity – so pick one up and get started today.
This book was provided to me by the author for review purposes. This review reflects my own unbiased opinion.
If I was on Facebook I would have LIKE highlighted immediately.
This book was epic. I have thoroughly enjoyed escaping into Danielle's world of Demons and Angels with her first two books and this one most certainly didn't disappoint either.
"In The Neon" is where we are introduced to my favourite smexy guy's parents Faust and Annie. Faust being a True Native Demon spends his days and nights influencing humans into unspeakable acts for his master and creator beneath. Annie a woman who has seen and experienced the good and bad of the human world, finds herself employed in a strip joint.
Danielle's poetic descriptions of her characters confused emotions towards each other blew me away. Every page was filled to the brim with gut renching scenes that either tugged at my heart or made me cringe in fear for the beautiful Annie.
What made this story even better was the added artworks of scenes from the book, all original works of Danielle's. A must read for all. Another great book to adorn my bookshelf.
This paranormal erotic romance is a prequel to 'The Black Dog and Rebel Rose'. It is the story of Skyrker's parents and should probably be read after 'The Black Dog and Rebel Rose', but can stand alone.
The story is a beautiful, gritty novella in the tradition of such love stories as 'Beauty and the Beast'.
A demon soul snatcher named Faust has wandered the earth for a millennium taking souls for his master until one night he sees a lovely woman smoking her cigarette in the back alley of a stripper joint. From then on he is captivated. Faust is confused by his attraction and is innocent in many ways. He has only known one thing for his whole existence- to do his assigned task for the Master of Hell. He does not even understand what is happening to him and has always been taught that tender feelings are impossible for his kind.
And the Beauty? Annie is built like a Scandinavian goddess which serves her in good stead as an exotic dancer at The Neon. She has a past that leaves her with nightmares, but that she hides from everyone. Annie does not look down on her present circumstances as it handsomely pays her rent and she is no slouch in bettering her mind by reading. She is intrigued by the man she and the other girls call The Shadow Man because he is so different from her usual clientele. Tentatively, Annie agrees to a coffee date with Faust, but that is the night her eyes were opened and the danger begins.
Faust has so much to overcome between his own inbred nature and the danger of his brother demons discovering that he is slowly forsaking all they hold dear. When he does the unthinkable and severs himself from his world, will Annie accept him or run in horror from the demon he appears? And if Annie accepts him, can he keep her safe from the very demons of hell?
Great story! It is a story of love triumphing over evil and the redemption of dark by the light.
Loved this book. I never thought I'd find a demon...hard core, forked tongue demon...drool worthy. Danielle will have you fall all over Faust. I loved the characters of Faust and Annie. After reading Black Dog and Rebel Rose I knew I wanted to read about Skriker's parents and so glad I did. I was a little worried about the ending because I know what happens to Skriker's parents but Danielle ended it brilliantly. I would love to have read more about them but the story had to end somewhere. The graphics are awesome through-out the book and mine was even on Kindle. The paper copy would be best. I wish I knew more about Leif and if he ties into Rose at all somehow. Great story hands down. Thanks Danielle for such a great read.
This was well written. It's short, I felt like the story was rushed in places, basically because the prose was effusive I wanted it to expand upon the story more. Draw out some more character details. ++SPOILER++ the cliffhanger/to be continued ending I was ok with. I would have preferred some further relationship review of the main characters after the final fight scene and prior to the ending. But - really good novella.
Faust is a born demon, a soul catcher for over 1000 years and one of the best. Annie is a beautiful stripper with the soul of an angel. One night outside a club named In the Neon, where Annie works and Faust frequently catches the darkest souls, Faust spots Annie and neither of their lives will ever be the same.
This book is written with a lyrical style that will reach out and grab you from the first sentence. Ms. Smith has managed to capture the seediness of the club, the feel of the night air, the inner beauty of Annie and the angst of Faust. The author’s own illustrations are found throughout the book, some beautiful, some grotesque, all adding to the overall look and feel of the book.
This book is the third in the series, all can be read as stand alones but I would recommend reading them all. Each book is well written with a different style and feel to them. The first book, Psyche’s Gate, is a beautiful story of undying love. The second book Black Dog and Rebel Rose is a gritty, action packed, blood and guts, in your face book. This book seems more introspective to me with a good combination of both of the previous books. This is a short book, novella length that can be read in a day. I highly recommend this book and can’t wait to see what the author has up her sleeve next.
