Mini review: I picked this up after a GR friend's recommendation, but frankly, I am disappointed. This is more like an erotic romance than historical romance.
Emphasis on the sex rather than story.
Over 1/3 of this book is pure descriptions of the hero and heroine having sex.
First meeting at masquerade ball -> sex
Second meeting -> foreplay
Third -> sex
Fourth -> sex & hero asks heroine to be his mistress (note: Heroine was supposed to be meek and virtuous, but it's like she was brainwashed)
Fifth -> Need I say anything more?
I probably rated this far better than the story deserved, because really, the story was obscured by all the "action."
Verdict: Read this if you want a romp to excite yourself, otherwise, find other historical romance with more romance.

Merriam Everett, janda yang dijuluki Si Tikus oleh playboy terkenal, Julian Clay, bertekad utk menaklukkan sang playboy tersebut dengan menjadi The Cat. Namun tidak dinyana, dalam pesta topeng, Miriam malah berbuat terlalu jauh daripada merayu dengan orang asing.
Drake Sotherton, yang baru kembali dari Inggris, penasaran pada wanita misterius bertopeng yang ditemuinya di pesta. Dan usaha Drake tidak sia-sia. Ia berhasil menemukan Miriam, yang terkejut setengah mati bahwa pria yang ditemui di pesta tersebut bukanlah Julian, melainkan Drake.
Drake menawarkan kepada Miriam untuk menjadi kekasihnya musim ini. Drake mencurigai bahwa Miriam adalah kekasih Julian, mantan sahabatnya sekaligus rivalnya yang bertekad membalas dendam gara2 kematian Lily, istri Drake.

Adegan dalam novel ini sangat hot dan detil...membayangkannya saja sudah bikin imajinasi jungkir balik.. sayang sekali, kurang dibikin emosional suspense nya. Kalau ada greget emosinya, bisa 5 bintang nih novel. Kagum juga atas usaha dan keberanian Merriam untuk meraih cintanya dan mengubah Drake menjadi Duke yang lebih manusiawi.
Aku jadi kepingin punya buku originalnya.. Covernya itu lhoooo... hmmmm...nyam..nyam...

Hal yang membuat saya tertarik membaca buku ini sebenarnya adalah label : Romantic Times Award Winner of ‘Best First Historical Romance’ (2006) yang tertulis di cover depan buku. Tentunya bukan sembarang buku biasa yang bisa mendapatkan label seperti itu, terlebih karena penerbitnya punya kekhususan tersendiri dalam seri romance terbitannya, maka tambah penasaranlah saya dengan buku ini.
Ceritanya tentang seorang janda muda yang bernama Merriam Everett, yang dianggap sebagai seorang wanita muda yang pemalu, penurut dan pemurung. Suatu hari ia berniat membalas dendam kepada seorang lelaki bernama Julian Clay yang pernah menghinanya diam-diam dengan beranggapan bahwa Merriam adalah tidak berguna, baik sebagai janda berwajah pucat ataupun perawan yang lemah (Hal.3)
Kali ini Merriam akan membuat lelaki itu bertekuk lutut untuk tidak lagi mengabaikannya, apalagi menghinanya. Ia akan membuat Julian, Sang Cassanova itu tergila-gila bahkan mendamba Merriam, lalu dengan sekali helaan, Merriam akan meninggalkannya. Biar tahu rasa bagaimana rasanya bertemu dengan ’si tikus’ yang telah berubah menjadi ’Si Kucing’.
Sayangnya takdir menunjukkan jalan yang berbeda. Ketika Merriam meluncurkan jurus rayuannya, ternyata ia menggoda lelaki yang salah. Lelaki yang bernama Drake Sotherton itu kelimpungan karena tergoda bujuk rayu Merriam. Kenapa bisa salah goda? Nah, ceritanya saat itu sednag Pesta Kostum, dan Merriam luput memilih lelaki.
Padahal Julian dan Drake memiliki konflik pribadi yang belum selesai, hubungannya dengan kematian Lily, istri Drake yang juga pacar Julian, mereka berdua saling tuduh siapa yang sebenarnya membunuh Lily. Julian kah dengan hasrat memnangkan persaingan dengan Drake, atau Drake sendiri karena kesal istrinya berselingkuh dengan lawannya?
Kehadiran Merriam bukannya memperjelas masalah, yang ada malah memperuncing konflik tersebut. Karena Julian berambisi merebut Merriam dari Drake dan Drake curiga bahwa Merriam dan Julian bersekongkol menghancurkan dirinya.. Lalu bagaimana akhir kisah mereka?
Ide ceritanya menarik, sayangnya bukan model detektif-detektifan meski ada juga peran detektif dalam buku ini. Kesan saya ketika membuka 10 halaman pertama adalah ’oh ya ampun, buku ini ya.....’ sambil nyiapin kipas segede gambreng. Ada banyak adegan ’hot’ yang kemudian saya ’skip’ karena toh saya nggak kehilangan ide cerita utama meski nggak baca ’itu’. Cover yang elegan sayangnya tidka diimbangi juga dengan pilihan hurufnya. Saya jadi mikir, ini font dipilih kecil biar nggak ad ayang ngintip waktu baca atau karena pertimbangan lain ya?
Penokohan Merriam ditonjolkan cukup berani, meski agak labil juga. Lha kadang dia jadi ’kucing’ tapi kali lain dia jadi ’tikus’. Mungkin idenya bagaimana seorang wanita sebenarnya mampu keluar dari lingkar amannya sendiri, hanya saja butuh lompatan atau dorongan ekstra besar agar ia bisa menemukan kehidupan yang jauh lebih baik daripada rutinitasnya setiap hari. Meski saat melakukan lompatan tersebut, ia mendapat pandangan negatif atau cemoohan dari pihak lain. Sebenarnya bila pesan itu yang mau disampaikan, mungkin saya anggap penulis sudah berhasil, karena memang ide yang tercetuskan tersebut telah tertanam dalam karakter Merriam sendiri.
Sedangkan untuk penokohan Julian dan Drake, saya rasa agak kurang. Saya masih belum merasa kedua tokoh ini punya ciri khasnya amsing-masing. Karena sama-sama jual mahal, sok berwibawa, nggak mau kalah dan sama-sama egois. Tapi Si Julian ini sebenarnya akan menjadi tokoh utama di buku seri ketiga dengan judul A Rogue’s Game. Siap membaca? Ah, nanti dulu ya.. saya butuh matahari dulu setelah beku ngadem di kamar saat baca buku ini :p

FORMAT: Audiobook. Did not have an actual ebook/paper book to follow along with, so please excuse any mispellings!
I listened to this audiobook during a long couple days of commuting, it was narrated by Michaela James. She is the best narrator I've ever heard for an ebook, she was like a one-person play! She was dramatic and used different voices very skillfully, I especially enjoyed it when she changed her voice for the nosy busy-body Mrs. Skelton and between the men, maids, footmen and Mirium during the dramatic denouement.
Mirium is a widow and has been called a mouse, a nickname she chafes at. She has secretly been visiting a courtesan friend and been instructed on the arts of love. She is awed by the sheer male beauty of the Earl Julian Clay, but she wants to teach him a lesson, and prove something to him. Julian Clay was overheard disparaging Mirium to another man, saying he would never have anything to do with mouse like females or widows.
Drake Sutheron, the Duke of Sussex, has returned to England after being away for 8 years after the murder of his wife. Rumors abound that he actually murdered his beautiful wife Lily, but Drake thinks that Julian Clay murdered her, as Julian had been her lover and has been present when her body was found. Drake wants revenge on his former friend.
So Mirium's plan is to draw Julian to her at a masquerade ball (she found out he would come dressed as the Wizard Merlin) and flirt with and tease him and leave him wanting (with a case of blue balls). Unfortunately, another man at the ball is dressed as Merlin, and she seduces the wrong man, but it goes a *bit* farther than she planned, and she is experiencing a headlong rush into uncontrollable passion.
The next part of the story seemed to be all about sex. Drake must find out who seduced him at the ball, driven by loneliness and desire, he tracks down Mirium, he is hot to have her again. They then resume their passionate and intimate acquaintance, further, alot further, and Drake convinces Mirium to be his Mistress for the rest of the Season. He will shower her with jewels and clothes and treat her like a queen. She agrees. At this point, it got a bit repetitive to me and the sex scenes kind of ran altogether. The erotic scenes were very descriptive and steamy. Maybe if I had listened to only one chapter a day it would have been better. (Honestly, I would have appreciated a couple fewer sex scenes.)
Drake grows to appreciate Mirium and visa versa. They are falling in love. Their emotional connection is sweet and deep and beautiful.
Then came the dramatic conclusion of the story, the mystery of who murdered Drake's first wife is solved, and the lovers come to their understanding. The denouement is very satisfying and all the pieces fall into place. The narrator made it very exciting and dramatic!!
This is a historical erotic romance, with a lot of sensuality! A very steamy read that is best spread out over several days or more.

La historia está bien. Un crimen del pasado. Ansias de venganza. Malos entendidos o malas suposiciones.
El problema es el exceso de escenas de sexo. A la protagonista le vino bien pero le alteró un poco el entendimiento.
¡Hasta en una pesadilla tienen sexo!
Uno podría saltear esas páginas, pero quedaría bastante poco.
Creo que faltó desarrollar más la parte no sexual.
Eso sí, especial para tener en la mesita de luz para inspirarse.
Mucha oralidad, posiciones e intensidades distintas.
El problema es el exceso de escenas de sexo. A la protagonista le vino bien pero le alteró un poco el entendimiento.

Merriam Everett, known as Merriam the Mouse, has finally decided to go after what she wants, and that is Julian Clay. Julian slighted her once and she wants to prove to him - and to herself - that she can be a wild temptress. In a masquerade party, she seduces him (amazing steamy scene) and runs away afterward. Later on, she finds out she seduced the wrong man (ops!).
Drake Sotherton, the man she mistakenly seduces, is then anxious to discover everything about the mysterious, sensual woman behind the costume mask, so he sets out to find her. Drake holds a personal grudge against Julian and wrongly believes that Merriam and Julian are conspiring together. Conflicts inevitably arise as Drake learns to trust Merriam, and she decides to open her heart to him.
This historical romance is full of passionate, descriptive love scenes, misunderstandings and a wildly delicious case of mistaken identity. The developing relationship between Drake and Merriam was engaging and the characters are very likeable. I have read the other two books in this series, and I have to say this one was my favourite. In the third book, A Rogue's Game, we get Julian’s love story.
Drake Sotherton, the man she mistakenly seduces, is then anxious to discover everything about the mysterious, sensual woman behind the costume mask, so he sets out to find her. Drake holds a personal grudge against Julian and wrongly believes that Merriam and Julian are conspiring together. This historical romance is full of passionate, descriptive love scenes, misunderstandings and a wildly delicious case of mistaken identity. I Believe I have found another Great Romance Author this book was very sensual and at the same time it was funny and adventurous. This was a page turner I could not put it down. The characters are very well developed the story is easy to read and very well written. I will re-read this book again it is a Keeper and the next ones in this series, A Madame's Deception and a Rogues game are just as Great can't wait for more books from Renee Bernard!!!!

A Duke is always bring me somekind of 'tickling' when I read their romance. After I see "The Duke" movie by Kiera Knightley I feel that a Duke is a fierce, hard, arrogant life at the highest level at its moment. I always want to find how they can yield in love.

Merriam Everett is a charming heroine who starts out as a timid mouse, but ultimately finds herself turning into a vivacious cat. Merriam's romance with the devilishly divine Duke of Sussex, Drake Sotherton is seriously steamy, and Renee Bernard certainly knows how to write an erotic sex scene.
The minor mystery is interesting although it is relatively easy to guess the culprit. Moreover, the climax and resolution are exciting despite the somewhat confusing sequencing and motivation.
The only problematic note concerns the keeping secrets trope, which is not a favorite of mine. Both the hero and heroine have secrets they are determined to keep. This leads to several misunderstandings that are drawn out for far too long and undermine an otherwise lovely story.
All in all, an entertaining read and I look forward to continuing with the trilogy focusing on Drake's friend Alex and the intriguing Madam DeBoucier.

kalo dari segi cerita sih biasa ya... tapi chemistri hero ma heroin nya itu lhooooo....
Pokoknya inti dari cerita nya, Drake itu kehilangan istrinya,Lily, karena istrinya dibunuh dengan brutal ... trus ketemu sama Merriam di pesta dansa setelah pergi selama 8 tahun dari Inggris. Nah si Merriam dateng ke pesta kostum buat balas dendam sama Julian Clay yg pernah menghina dia... Biar gak ketahuan Merriam nyamar pake topeng kucing.
Rencana nya si Merriam itu mau balas dendam dengan tubuhnya dan ninggalin Julian Clay daam keadaan tidak terpuaskan... hohoho.... u/ yg satu ini sampe berguru sama mucikari
Trus Merriam salah sasaran cingggg.... bukannya Julian Clay yg dia rayu malah Drake... eh bablas deh ... (kejadiannya di awal buku lagiii... bikin orang kaget blom apa2 dah beginian, aku aja bacanya ampe mlotot + cengar cengir)

Dikasih kartu sama Drake trus disuruh dateng ke rumah Drake tengah malam buat bicara masalah ini... Galau abis Merriam .... dateng gak dateng gak .... akhirnya dateng.... trus langsung deh sodara2, ngobrol bentar, pucet& gemetar dikit langsung uhuk2 ehek2 ohok2 (minjem istilah mbak Lely) setelah itu si Merriam ditawarin jadi His Familiar nya Drake selama musim perjodohan.Ternyata Julian Clay sama Drake itu temen yg selalu saing2an sampe jadi musuh. Drake nyangkain Julian Clay = pembunuh Lily istrinya dan sebaliknya Julian jg nyangkain Drake yg bunuh Lily, jadi si Julian ini gak tau nya selingkuh ma Lily...(bitch)dan ... Drake juga nyangkain si Merriam ini ada hubungan sama Julian dan dibuatlah rencana untuk menjebak Julian dengan mempergunakan Merriam.
Julian clay punya sifat ngerebut apapun yg Drake punya, dan si Merriam jg rencana nya mo direbut, emang dasar si Merriam gak napsir Julian ya di cuekin deh tapi geer geer dikit... dan setelah itu ya ceritanya kisaran di rumah ma tempat tidur he..he.. he.. yang parah pas di kereta kuda nya Drake (si Drake lagi dalam tekanan batin soalnya) ... waduh http://www.smileycodes.info yg bagian ini baca sendiri aja ya...pada saat ada pesta besar di rumahnya Drake, Julian menyusup masuk ke kamar Drake terus kepergok Merriam yg lagi nyari Drake, akhirnya Drake mergokin Julian sama Merriam, baku hantam deh, sampe si Drake luka dan disinilah pembunuh sebenarnya terungkap... Akibat kejadian itu si Merriam pergi dari rumah Drake & Drake ke rumah temen nya untuk nyembuhin diri tapi gak kuat nahan rasa akhirnya Drake ke rumah Merriam. Story and Writing Style
Merriam the “Mouse”, in a moment of brash confidence in the middle of a masquerade ball, intends to tease a peer to blue balls after hearing him belittle her as a “whey-faced widow” to his friend. Our hero happens to be wearing the same costume as the "victim" in her plan, and in a classic case of mistaken identity, Merriam seduces the wrong man. And I mean she truly seduces him, as actions are, naturally, taken further than expected. I was hooked from the beginning by that very sex scene, which was very saucy, very heated indeed, and it helped define the heroine’s goal and really highlight her motives in the story. I’m actually a bit surprised by my interest in the story, but with the onslaught of immediate sexual release followed by the hero’s gung-ho desire to release the “wildcat” in her, I jumped from lily pad to lily pad of passion to the very satisfying end. A bit fluffy at times, but at other times appropriately intense to satisfy.
Characters
Merriam the Mouse and Drake the Deadly Duke play off each other rather well. They’re both antisocial, in a sense, though in very different aspects. Of course Drake is the butt of a vicious rumor that he killed his wife nearly a decade ago. Merriam is, well…just a mouse. He wants to see more passion in her, and he encourages it. She finds that she wants to feel more passion too, so they agree to an affair for the season. Sometimes I felt that Merriam was being too mousy. And, ironically, I felt that Drake at times was not being hard enough. For being the “Deadly Duke”, I was expecting a bit harder of a protective shell for her to break through, as well as a bit more of a rake in the bedroom.
Sex
Good, and very hot. This book hovered quite close to the border of Erotica. Descriptive, graphic, but not vulgar at all. Her desire to experience passion and the brief emboldened glimmers of her having the upper hand were quite refreshing. I always enjoy a woman in control of bedroom activities, if only once in awhile.

Aku ngakak baca review temen2-q yang lain mengenai buku ini.Banyak yang bilang karena banyak ehem-ehemnya maka inti dari ceritanya sendiri malah jadi hilang.Yah,aku sendiri ga keberatan seh dengan sex/bed scene,that is part of the story.Asal jangan ganti pasangan aja,aku masih bisa tolerir.Hehehehhe..Tapi kalau memang g suka tipe cerita yang terlalu panas,mending jangan baca buku ini deh.Karena memang banyak adegan BS nya daripada dialog nya.Walaupun menurutku seh ceritanya tetap bagus deh.
Mungkin memang ide ceritanya agak terlalu datar,karena memang tiba2 aja minat heroine nya untuk membalas dendam jadi hilang begitu aja karena salah sasaran.Dan aku juga kurang suka dengan sifat hero nya yang terlalu mudah mencurgai motif orang lain.Ya seh memang itu karena pengaruh masa lalunya dimana istrinya selingkuh dengan temannya sendiri,tapi toh dia juga tidak melakukan apapun untuk menghentikannya,sampai akhirnya sang istri dibunuh secara kejam. Aku juga benci banget dengan tokoh Julian,soalnya dia tuh jelas2 salah karena udah selingkuh sama istri orang,eh ini malah sok2-an jadi pahlawan kesiangan..ckckkckck..nyadar donk liat diri sendiri apa dia dah bener atau belum.Dan terutama aku paling ga paham dengan sifat Lady di rumah bordil yang sudah membantu sang heroine untuk menjadi wanita penggoda.Sebenarnya ni cewek tuh baik atau jahat seh?Kok di halaman2 terakhir dia bersikap judes dan berpenampilan menjijikkan sekali.Namun sayang sampai akhir cerita juga tidak disebutkan akan nasib ni pemilik rumah bordil,jadi aku harus mengira2 sendiri deh.

Akhirnya kelar baca juga!! :p
Buku ini termasuk ke dalam jajaran buku2 yang bisa bikin penasaran hingga lembaran terakhir. Karna terbukti dengan aku sudah menginginkan buku ini sejak pertama kali melihat sinopsisnya, lalu penantian panjangnya untuk membeli dan akhirnya membaca dalam kurun waktu beberapa jam.
Genrenya seperti biasa, romance dengan setting historical. Genre fave-ku belakangan ini. ^^ Dan seperti biasanya pula, kedua tokoh utama sudah ditakdirkan bersatu dari awal. Tapi biar gimanapun, perjalanan bersatunya mereka begitu rumit dan penuh masalah. Dari berbagai kejadian, gosip, rumor dan bahkan berbagai tuduhan mesti terjadi. Oh ya, endingnya sempat terprediksi sebelum buku ini habis (ending klimaksnya, bukan ending bersatunya tokoh utama), tapi tetap ngga menduga kalau pelakunya adalah si 'dia'.
Bukunya oke koq, walau sempat menangkap 3 typo disana. =)) Hayo, hayo, tampaknya agak missed itu. :p

Terkejut dengan awal buku yang sudah menyuguhkan kebersamaan 'ehem-ehem' duke-Marlin dan his familiar cat-nya, janda pucat Merriam
Ceritanya bagus, ide yang tidak biasa untuk historical romance, sang duke terlibat dengan pembunuhan sang mendiang istrinya. Konflik yang diangkat mengungkapkan intrik balas dendam, perselingkuhan, persaingan antar sahabat, dan pasti tidak ketinggalan gairah! yang terus-terusan diekspos di buku ini.
Awal ketertarikan tokoh pasangan disini murni hanya gairah dan intrik balas dendam. Jadi, pembaca tidak akan banyak menemukan hal-hal romantis yg selalu diumbar di historical romance umumnya.
Tidak heran A lady's pleasurenya Renee Bernard mendapatkan penghargaan kategori best historical romance terbaik th 2006. wah, tidak sabar ne untuk membaca karya lainnya.

The plot of Ms. Bernard's novels tend to attempt at intrigue and fall short... but her sex scenes are incredible. I recomend this for someone looking for a steamy summer read that does not require any true commitment.

Historical romance, sadly, is not my niche. Not my cup of coffee. I rarely succeeded on finishing HR. And unfortunately, this book met the same fate. I guess I'm gonna have to re-read, later.

ด้วยเหตุที่แม็กซ์เป็นคนดี ทำตามคำสั่งมาม้าเก็บหนังสือที่กองไว้เต็มบ้าน แม็กซ์ก็เลยมีหัวข้อมาเล่าสู่กันฟัง แต่ก่อนอื่นขอเริ่มต้นด้วยการพูดถึงหนังสือที่เพิ่งอ่านจบไปก่อนแล้วกัน
นั่นก็คือเรื่อง The Lady's Pleasure ของ Renee Bernard
ความสุขของคุณผู้หญิงเป็นแนวย้อนยุคที่กำลังฮิตกันในตอนนี้ นั่นก็คือแนวอีโรติกโรแมนซ์ แม้ว่าความร้อนแรงจะสู้กับแพสชั่นของลิซ่า แวลเดซไม่ได้ แต่ก็คงถูกใจผู้นิยมเรื่องฮ็อต
เนื้อเรื่องไม่มีอะไรมาก แค่นางเอกเบื่อชีวิตแม่ม่าย ก็เลยไปเรียนวิชากะมาดามชื่อดังถึงวิธียั่วยวนผู้ชาย ผู้ชายที่เป็นเป้าหมายของเธอเป็นหนุ่มสังคมชื่อดังที่เคยพูดจาเหยียดหยามเธอ เอาไว้ว่าเป็นแม่ม่ายหน้าเกลียด แต่แล้วก็ผิดฝาผิดตัวไปลงเอยกะพระเอกที่บังเอิญเสียจริงดันเป็นศัตรูคนสำคัญ ของผู้ชายที่เป็นเป้าหมายของนางเอก
สิ่งที่ไม่เวิร์คสำหรับแม็กซ์ก็คือ ความบังเอิญที่มากเกินไป

นั่นก็คือเรื่อง The Lady's Pleasure ของ Renee Bernard
ความสุขของคุณผู้หญิงเป็นแนวย้อนยุคที่กำลังฮิตกันในตอนนี้ นั่นก็คือแนวอีโรติกโรแมนซ์ แม้ว่าความร้อนแรงจะสู้กับแพสชั่นของลิซ่า แวลเดซไม่ได้ แต่ก็คงถูกใจผู้นิยมเรื่องฮ็อต
เนื้อเรื่องไม่มีอะไรมาก แค่นางเอกเบื่อชีวิตแม่ม่าย ก็เลยไปเรียนวิชากะมาดามชื่อดังถึงวิธียั่วยวนผู้ชาย ผู้ชายที่เป็นเป้าหมายของเธอเป็นหนุ่มสังคมชื่อดังที่เคยพูดจาเหยียดหยามเธอ เอาไว้ว่าเป็นแม่ม่ายหน้าเกลียด แต่แล้วก็ผิดฝาผิดตัวไปลงเอยกะพระเอกที่บังเอิญเสียจริงดันเป็นศัตรูคนสำคัญ ของผู้ชายที่เป็นเป้าหมายของนางเอก
สิ่งที่ไม่เวิร์คสำหรับแม็กซ์ก็คือ ความบังเอิญที่มากเกินไป
ในทางกลับกัน เรื่องนี้เวิร์คเพราะว่าทั้งเรื่องแม้จะไม่มีการแก้ความเข้าใจผิดของพระเอก ที่ว่านางเอกเป็นชู้รักกับศัตรูของตน เขาก็ยังสารภาพรักกับเธอ และตลอดเรื่องไม่ได้ทำร้ายจิตใจนางเอกด้วยความเข้าใจผิดนั้น ดังนั้นคนที่ชอบอ่านเรื่องพระเอกทำร้ายจิตใจนางเอกอย่างรุนแรง ขอร้องให้กลับไปอ่านเรื่องอื่นเถอะค่ะ เรื่องนี้ไม่เข้าแก็ปค่ะ

คุณเป็นอย่างแม็กซ์หรือเปล่า ที่ซื้อหนังสือมาจนไม่มีที่เก็บ ก็เลยต้องกองไว้ทั่วบ้าน จนวันนึงก็ได้รับประกาศิตจากผู้เป็นใหญ่ในบ้านสั่งให้เก็บ หาไม่แล้วจะเอาไปทิ้ง (แต่มาม้าไม่กล้าหรอก แม็กซ์รู้)
เมื่อนั้นก็จะเกิดอาการไฟลนก้น แม๊กซ์ใช้เวลาวันเสาร์และอาทิตย์รวมทั้งวันจันทร์ทั้งวันเก็บหนังสือค่ะ แต่การเก็บของแม็กซ์นี่ไม่ธรรมดานะ

แม็กซ์ต้องบรรจงคีย์ข้อมูลเกี่ยวกับหนังสือลงในคอมพิวเตอร์ และระบุจุดที่เก็บหนังสือเล่มนั้นเอาไว้ เพราะถ้าไม่คีย์ก็จะจำไม่ได้ (แต่ถึงคีย์แล้วก็จำไม่ได้อีก เพราะนี่มีลังหนังสือหายไปหนึ่งลัง ยังหาไม่เจอ คีย์ข้อมูลไว้แค่ ลัง1 แต่นึกไม่ออกว่าเจ้าลัง 1 นี่มันอยู่หนใด)
นั่งทำสามวันเก็บหนังสือไปได้ 300 เล่ม เหลืออีกประมาณครึ่งนึงที่ต้องเอาไว้ทำต่อวันปีใหม่

The sex isn't sexy...
For the most part, Renee Bernard can be counted on to write a good story with likable characters centerstage in an interesting plot spiced with romance and sex. For me, A Lady's Pleasure was little more than erotica set in some indeterminate historical time period. What little plot there was beyond the numerous sex scenes was muddled and ended in a resolution that was largely implausible.
In my view, the main problem is lack of backstory for the main characters. The female protagonist is oddly off putting mostly because there isn't enough backstory to make her truly sympathetic. Oh, the author hints at her unhappy marriage but there's not enough about it to make her risky actions and choices plausible. The male protagonist is largely colorless and it's hard to know him/like him because of the lack of backstory details. The occasional appearances of his best friend who references previous events aren't enough to flesh him out. As I've said in other reviews, the sex isn't sexy unless the reader cares about the characters. Unfortunately, Ms. Bernard didn't do much to generate my caring for these characters.
If you want to read a lot if sex scenes through the first 70% of the book before it gets down to any kind of storytelling then this is the book for you. However, if you'd like a little more 'meat' on the literary bones of your stories, then you may want to give this one a pass.

This book is spicy. Lots of spicy. I don’t mind spicy, but there are so many scenes that I started skimming and skipping them for more story. It caused the plot to plod along. Which honestly just makes your book/plot seem weak because your relying to much on intimate scenes.
The epilogue was meh and pretty unnecessary.
If I never see or hear the word incorrigible again it will be a blessing. This story used it way too much. It was irritating by the end.
I’m debating on reading book 2, Alex and Madame what’s her name’s story who runs the Crimson Belle.

This is an excellent debut and kept me spellbound throughout!
It is very erotic so if this isn't your bag, look no further!
I love masquerade balls and this one takes a very interesting turn.
It shows the development of our heroine from a little mouse into a full blown temptress. I also liked the hero and the chemistry can only be described as sizzling.
I look forward to reading her next novel and she is an author definitely to watch!

A steamy story with twists and turns.
I really did think Julian killed Lily, but was a little concerned about Peg's attention to Merriam once Merriam was in residence for a bit.
Shocking conclusion to the mystery of Lily's murder and so glad that Merriam and Drake found happiness together at the end.

still, I somehow managed to be drawn into the story of the murder of Drakes first wife.
Like to see Merriums transformation from a shy retiring widow as she grows confidence in herself.

Wow, this had it all. Lots of hot steamy sex, great intrigue, interesting characters and a mystery or two to solve.
Good girl goes for payback and ends up in the arms of the wrong rake.

I loved this steamy story and the characters as well! Men can be so stubborn, and once they have a plan in mind for revenge, they miss what is right in front of them until it’s almost too late.
This book did not disappoint at all! I’m going to read the next book in this series right now!
