More hymns that I grew up with in the church. My Dad's all-time favorite "When the Roll Is Called Up Yonder, I'll Be There" is one of many that I can easily sing along as I read through the story behind the hymn. My only critique of this and his first book of hymns is they appear in alphabetical order by title. I would rather have them in thematic, time era or some sort of order based upon the author and/or composer. That said he does give an index of the authors, translators, composers and tune names at the back of each book. This book was given to me by my Mom and Dad back in 1990 so it will always carry special meaning.

An additional book on the backgrounds of the lyricists and composers of the favourite hymns of the Churches in the English-speaking world. Provides valuable information about both famous and obscure writers of Christian music from the past (although a couple of contemporary hymns are in the volume as well). An excellent resource for the church historian as well as the one who wishes to combine music with Scripture reading for devotional purposes.
