Damian’s Assassin

Rate this book
With the White God in Europe, Dustin is left alone in Miami to protect the Grey God, a man-god struggling with his identity, and the White God’s mate. One of the Black God’s vamps in Miami suddenly goes rogue and starts killing humans by the dozen. Dustin initially doesn’t think much of the ruthless, human-hating thug, Talon, until it becomes clear that the vamp is receiving help from otherworldly beings whose intentions are nothing short of destroying humanity. To make matters even worse, Dustin’s begun to dream of his dead sister, who tells him he’ll be seeing her soon.

Dustin rescues Bianca and her troubled brother, a Natural whose mysterious talent makes him vital to Talon’s plans. Bianca, a woman as sunny and sweet as Dustin is hard and cold, has the rare Natural gift of healing. She can bring the recent dead back to life or turn a vamp back into a human. She can even reach Dustin’s heart, which he locked away long again after his sister’s death. Convinced he’ll be killed soon, Dustin won’t risk his heart or Bianca’s, despite their mutual attraction, and Bianca discovers even her incredible talent can’t save both the men she loves.

I bought the omnibus edition, with the first three books, or else I never would have picked this up.

The first book could have been saved. It had grammar issues, etc., but there was a good plot there. Most of all, the female lead at least had spunk. Not so in this one. The female copes with the stress of being kidnapped, tortured, kidnapped by someone else, verbally abused, and trapped in the apartment of a douchebag by...making cookies. Said douchebag, while he had personality in the first book, apparently lost it somewhere along the way. All he does is run around and threaten to kill people, and everyone is okay with this. But the "heroine" just can't get enough of him. She loves it.

I would have given this book one star, but Lizzy Ford's writing did improve a lot since the first book. I got really, really sick of all the exclamation points, but for the most part the writing is solid. Since I paid money for the omnibus, I'll probably read the third book, but if I'd gotten this for free I probably wouldn't bother. Very disappointing.

This was a huge let down for me. I really enjoyed the first book in the series, so I kind of had high expectations for this one. Unfortunately there were just to many turns offs for me to consider it even in the same league as the first installment.

And ALL of them were because of Dusty. I knew from reading about him as a side character that we weren't going to get the warm fuzzies from this H. But he was just an asshole. It was literally past the 60% mark before he stopped talking about having sex with a different female character. And his CONSTANT comparisons between the two ladies was obnoxious. The book was Bianca's story, but when reading from Dusty's POV for the majority of the book he found her 'adorable' which is good, but then we would have to read in the same sentence that Jenn was 'smoking hot'... pair that with him talking about finding Jenn to 'relieve some pressure (aka have 'no-strings' sex)' and I found the couples chemistry to be completely off. The connection between Dusty and Bianca was nonexistent from his POV, and that frustrated the shit out of me.

Bianca was sweet. I liked her. Except for when it came to Dusty. I wish she had more of a back bone when it came to him. He threatened to kill her. Multiple times. And she took it and forgave it. Immediately. Then again, is this her fault or more reasons I disliked him? Hmmm. What happened to Jonny was sad. But to be completely honest, falling into drugs and the 'wrong crowd' is NO EXCUSE to be all 'I didn't mean to kill that innocent woman', and Bianca's INSTANT and IMMEDIATE forgiveness for his betrayal and murder was OBNOXIOUS.

This book did NOT work for me. The reason for the two stars instead of one was just because of Darian and Sophia (and maybe a little for Bianca). The rest, meeeeeeh, no thanks. I think I DO want to continue this series, I like the H for the next book. I just am NOT looking forward to the 'other woman' in the way. It seems to be a recurring theme in this series.

The only problem I had with this book was Dustin. I found Dustin in the first book, funny, a little OCD with Birthday and overall like a little brother among Damian and Jule. He was still the youngest of the three in this book but he was no longer a 'little brother'. He was now super serious, strict, broody and not at all adorable and a little playful as I first read him in the first book. I liked him much better then and I didn't think the time had gone long enough to change him this drastically.

I LOVE Dusty and his bluntness, I really do. "For the most part the major decisions were made for you," he replied, "you do have the choice of sharing my bed or sleeping on the couch." Although I enjoyed the story of Dusty and Bianca I have to say Damian and Sofia are kind of still my favorite right now. We learn so many new things in this part of the book that it's sometimes hard to take in. I know I feel bad for Bianca and her brother Jonny tough times are ahead of them that's all I can say without revealing to much.

REVIEW

As you can see, the book is basically told in the synopsis lol. It seems more and more books are being completely told in their descriptions. Authors, don’t give everything away for free! Ha ha that’s my Yoda advice for the day ;)

I read the first book in this series awhile ago, and fell in love with the world of the gods and their quirky relationships/personalities. This one focuses on Dusty, one of my favorite characters from the first book. He’s the main assassin for the White God, Damian, (Get it? Damian’s Assassin?) and he has been for hundreds of thousands of years. This of course has made him cold as stone and not all that touchy feely. And you know what I like? Dusty didn’t change in personality just because he met a woman. I LOVE that about this book. Too many novels have the male lead change in personality just because he met the girl of his dreams and crap. Not Dusty. If anything, he became more ruthless when it came to her. He’s a protector and won’t apologize for it. Sigh…Can I have him? I love that overly manly thing, it’s just…ugh, you girls get what I mean.

I think the heroine in this is awesome. She’s sweet, patient, and a very believable person/character. I also enjoyed how it wasn’t insta-love between her and Dusty. It took time and was very believable and cute to watch. In fact the way Bianca and Dusty met was super funny to me. It was original and funny and really showed both of their personalities right away.

Now I am going to shut up about the kickass characters for a second and focus on the story. Because I’ve noticed in my reviews lately that I only gab about the two main characters and don’t really expand on the story itself. So that is DEFINITELY going to change today. LOL I think I just heard ya’ll sigh in relief ;–)

WARNING! IF YOU HAVEN’T READ BOOK ONE STOP READING THIS!!! Are your eyes averted???? Good, let’s continue. In book one we found the long lost White God who is now the Grey God, and in this book we’re battling over who is going to be the new Black God. Dusty and his crew of Guardians are still killing vampires, but this time, Dusty’s mortality is at risk for the first time….ooh. Surprisingly, I enjoyed this book more than the first one, and I think that’s because I liked the characters more. But come on, who doesn’t love an immortal god who finds love? Well, this girl does!!! Hahaha, anyone agree with me? Then comment below chicas (and chicos if any guys read this ;–)!!

I can understand why a lot of readers don't like Dusty's character. He is a total ass and a bastard. Plain and simple. Total Alpha with a capital A. At least he is in this book...which is his and we get a glimpse of why he is the way he is. Book 1 he was kinda sweet and sympathetic towards Sophia. This book? Not so much. Wonder why the author decided to change him in such a drastic way? Or perhaps she gave the wrong impression in the first book. Perhaps this is him and she made him too soft? Okay bottom line...although he was a total freakin dick to Bianca at least in the beginning and kinda the middle I liked him. He's a take charge guy and its his way or the highway...or he'll kill ya. Okay that part kinda got old. Always wanted to kill you or threatening to. I mean its his job and assassins are not warm and fuzzy and I think we forgot that a little. Bianca was beyond sweet and sort of a doormat in some ways. I saw some of her fire at the VERY beginning and I mean even before all hell broke loose and she was captured. I think with her trauma she lost a little of that fire. She got back a smidge at the end but poor thing. I liked her though. She made the best of a very difficult situation. I do think Dusty should have been a little easier on her like he did Sophia but apparently he didnt want to think of her as that. Keeping his distance for various reasons. His own personal stuff for one. Then her brother's issues. That scene when he came home and she left a mess in the kitchen and she was in a dead sleep and he woke her so brutally. That was not cool. He regretted it the next day but that man never apologized for anything. Thats a bother for me. However, I am still a fan and honestly...I like this book better than the first. After reading the first book I wasnt sure I wanted to continue this or not but I already owned this book and went ahead and read it. I'm totally on board with reading more. I just felt Jonny got a crappy deal dealt to him. That was a little surprising. Poor kid and poor Bianca. Enjoyable and a quick read in one sitting for me.

I am really enjoying the Damian's series. I find that the theme is fun and has some serious potential for greatness. I've enjoyed the first book, Damian's Oracle as well as this one. My one and only major problem is the skipping over the actual love scenes. I actually had to read between the lines to even come to the conclusion that there was some sex going on. I'm not saying I have to have it in a book but if it's there I don't want to skip over it. It makes me feel like I've missed something.

Alright, that being said I cannot wait for the next in the series. (I'm hoping there are more.) Bianca is a healer and her brother is always getting into trouble. So when she finds him turned into a vampire she runs to his aid but while trying to help her brother she's kidnapped by Talon, a vampire. Enter, Damian's assassin, Dusty. He comes into save the day and take out all the vampires. Unfortunately, there's more going on then just the vampire invasion.

The supporting characters are strong and I really enjoy what they lend to the story. The Watcher, Sofi, Darian. The one thing that got me this time were the extra people that were introduced. I had a difficult time following, Toni, Iggy and ... to be honest, I can't remember the other's name. Sheck? It was hard to keep them straight.

The world building is fun and amazing. Especially, the in between. It was fun to read.

Continuing on from Damian's oracle, Damian's assassin Dusty is in his operation base and he has to look after Sofi and Darian (the Grey God) who was the missing in the first book thinking that he was dead for thousand of years. At this point Damian and Jules are in Europe cleaning up the mess from the traitors. In the meantime there are two naturals that are wanted by the good and the evil side. Jonny who always seems to get into trouble and Bianca with her sunny personality has to save his ass every single time unfortunately just this once it seems to go wrong the Watchers are still trying to keep the balance. The Watchers (White God aid) and the Others (Black God aid)fight amongst one another in the immortal realm and try to brig their chaos to the mortal world. Bianca is a healer with a lot of power. So Dusty is extremely anal in what he does and has locked away all his feelings in a deep and dark place. There is once again a battle for humanity where Sofi sees some unexpected things and plays her role in helping out. I don't want to give too much but once again this book is amazing there are some typos but the content is more important.

I bought this box set for $0.99, but I felt like I hit the lottery. This second installment was as great as the first book. I was greatly entertained again. I voraciously devoured the book and left me in a status of craving for more. It's a good thing that I didn't have to wait for book three for another year, or else I would go crazy going through a withdrawal.

ByWho's not afraid of Dusty?

This story deals with Dustin, Bianca, Jonny, & Darian who have to act on one accord while the white good Damian is away. Dustin realizes that he is or has fallen hard for Bianca who happens to be Jenny's sister. When Johnny finds out that the Black God Czaesar has his sister he goes to rescue her & he becomes the new black god.

Good Read

This continues the story from the 1st with all the characters from the first book. I enjoyed the first book more because it had more action but this was still a good read. Good characters, some suspense and action, some romance and Gods and Demigods.

Definitely loved this read! The story of the God of white and the God of Black continues but with the focus of the story more on Dusty instead of Damien.
The heroine, Bianca, possesses the ability to heal people, but unlike other Naturals , she is powerful enough to turn a vampire to human again. She's dragged into the complicated war when her brother Johnny gets himself into trouble at a vampiric party, and she's kidnapped by the bastard child of the dark god, only to be saved by...dun dun dun, Dusty.
Johnny too is special, possessing the ability to slay gods and was the only mortal in the universe who could do so. He was also a born Warrior and could master every weapon. He's young, only 20 and living the wild life of someone you'd expect at that age except he chose the wrong crowd to mingle with. He finds himself initiated as a vampire, with the guilt of murdering a woman at his hands and a large destiny to fulfill.
Dusty is the adopted brother of the White God and assigned as a assassin, one of the best, under Damien. He's given the responsibility as ward of his scarred, mentally wounded brother, Darien, his sooth saying sister-in-law, Sophi and later, Bianca and Johnny, in Damien's absence. After saving Bianca from the clutches of her captors and persuaded by Sophi to protect Bianca, Damien finds himself in a precarious situation with the Black god going after the siblings he protected. It doesn't help that he was getting all steamy in the pants for Bianca.
Damien, the White god, is away for almost the whole of the novel with his other adopted brother, Jules, and I must say I definitely missed their characters.
Our mysterious green eyed watcher friend reappears along with another watcher with purple eyes. Who was he...the novel left a lot of unanswered question about him and what he was trying to plot.
Darien is the Grey god and I don't even know what that's supposed to mean. Maybe his not supposed to side with anyone. Not too sure about that. He's still recovering from his scarred past.
Aside from the Black god we have his bastard son who's planning to snatch his father's um...power and status. Throw in a sexy guardian, naturals, lust, power, action scenes, and you've got yourself one heck of a sequel. Not to mention a guy who's catch phrase is, 'groovy'.

This series is becoming an obsession for me. I love it although it's far from perfect. The characters are a blast and the action is fast-paced. My only lingering irk is the editing. It feels like scenes are cut close to the vein. The scene hopping is not smooth. There is no type of transitioning except chapter breaks. Odd but not a dealbreaker. It's like a scratch on a BMW -- it's not enough to mark it down to bottom basement.

As for this installment on Dusty the Assassin, I could not put it down. I liked Dusty in the first book but fell hard for him in this one. His love interest and heroine is Bianca. She is the perfect mate for him. She is a healer to his warrior. She has a kind heart to his hard edges. I liked the fact that she didn't change him but added dimension. He didn't change her either only gave her purpose. The cast of characters continued to amaze me. In the last book, we witnessed the birth of a third god, the Grey God. I won't say who that is since it's a spoiler for Book 1 but I will say you will love his journey. We also get to have fun and games with the network of Guardians as they fight the bad guys. I don't know what to make of the vamps but will say there is so many other niffty characters that it doesn't matter. The mythology continues to be unique and the world-building potential is limitless.

The developments in the battle between the White God and Black God were unexpected and solidified my belief that Ms. Ford is one of the more creative writers on the horizon. I was prepared for the sexual teasing with no payoff and the poor transitioning so I wasn't disappointed. Basically, aside from these two small shortfalls -- its perfect. I am going to give this one 5 stars for being creative and very entertaining. I am hoping Ms. Ford will write a full length novel for this series at some point so she can tell each character's history in detail. The novella format is not working for that aspect of the story. Some of us want to understand exactly what happened in the past that made these men and women who they are. It will only give us more reasons to love them.

Book 2 in the War of Gods series we meet Damian’s long time assassin and adopted brother Dusty. Dusty is a control freak and a neat freak. While Damian the White God heads to Europe to tie things up Dusty is in Miami taking care of the newly acquired Grey God who is at the moment going through a teenage rebellion phase while trying to find himself. Dustin also has issues with a vampire leader Talon. Dusty ends up rescuing the sweet and loving Bianca and her brother. Bianca is the complete opposite of Dusty but she is possibly exactly what Dusty needs.

I liked Bianca I’m usually all about the heroic women who kick butt and might talk smack or at least have some sarcasm but Bianca is just plain sweet and I’m sure some would think that would make her a horrible character because she is kind of a push over and she is ever forgiving no matter what horrible things her brother does or what mean things Dusty might have said to her. She balanced the assassins coldness out nicely though and she was actually patient with him. Instead of running from how she felt she just seemed to wait till he felt the same. Like I said I think she made love interest for Dusty. Dusty however I at first didn’t like. He seriously seemed to have been written without a personality, but that was his personality he was a stone cold assassin and didn’t think he had long to live. He did what he had to do and what he was told to do.

I think though the Grey God stole the book for me. I was more interested in what he was going through and his friendship he built with Bianca and Sophi than I actually was in what was going on with Dusty and Bianca.

Since that is all said. The story was still really good. This book definitely kept things flowing nicely. We get more bad guys and more good guys and more in depth story. It might have its lull moments but they are not that bad. The action scenes were still good and it kept me moving on to the next book to find out what happens next.

If you like fun action filled paranormal/mythological romance this book is a great choice. Its a quick read and keeps you wanting to read the next book in the series.

Book 2 of Lizzy Ford's The War of Gods series focuses on Darian's struggles to find himself and Dusty's struggle to find the patience to deal with some very strong willed individuals. Sadly, Damian is hardly in this one, which is a shame because I liked his interactions with Sofi and the way he was so effortless with his power. That said, this installment moves the entire storyline forward in a big way. Revelations are made! Creepy bad guys are thwarted! Dusty gets some action! Actually, I could have gone with more action between Bianca and Dusty. Maybe that's just me.

Right. So, Dusty is an emotionally closed off immortal who has the rather craptastic job of being Damian's Assassin. I guess when you kill people for a living it IS a good idea to not get too involved in them but it also makes him cold and unapproachable. He's in charge, he gives orders, people follow them. Bianca is a complication he doesn't need. She's messy and she questions things and she happens to be one bad-ass healer.

I can't say that I liked this book more than book 1 but then I really dug that one. However, I like how the entire dynamic of the Gods is shifting and evolving. The horribly tragic Darian is finding some peace. The balance that needs to be maintained between the Black and White Gods is addressed. Things are moving forward quickly and the world looks to be gearing up for something big.

Damian's assassin, Dustin, is ruthless, intense, and a little ocd. When he meets Bianca, a natural healer, they appear to be polar opposites. He can barely take care of himself and she took care of her father and younger brother Johnny. His emotions are guarded while she wears her heart on her sleeve. He decorates in black and white and keeps his home spotless while she is full of energy and color and enjoys cooking but not cleaning. After spending some time together, Dusty starts to open up to Bianca. They don't get too much time together though because EVERYTHING seems to be going wrong in Dusty's territory. With Damian and Jule trying to clean up Europe, things in North America became a million times worse. While trying to fix the evil caused by Czerno and his son Talon, Dusty still has to worry about Darian. Darian is a MESS - no longer the white god they once knew - he's now a moody, suicidal, rebellious grey god. Sophi and Bianca do their best to start to heal him and although he's still not back to normal, by the end of this book we can see quite a bit of growth in him.

This book was FULL of action. Although Sophi is an Oracle and we know what will happen in the future, it was still fun to read through the intense action scenes to see it all play out. Now, with a new Black god, limited powers, Jule still stuck in Ireland, a pregnant Oracle, and a teenage grey god, I can only image how crazy book 3 will be!!!!

The White God is in Europe, trying to clean up messes made there. That leaves his assassin Dusty to stay in America and deal with an Oracle still trying to come into her own powers and the new Grey God, who even though his is thousands of years old, acts more like a teenager after years of torture.
Bianca is an average girl, until you find out that she has the ability to heal others. She has known about this since she was young. An accident places her brother in the hospital on death's door step. She gets a visit from a purple eyed man claiming he can save her brother, if she agrees to pay him. Then another being steps in with his green eyes and chases away the Other. He promises he can help Bianca heal her brother and that someday she will understand all that is happening. But until that day, both her and her brother must keep in a secret that she can heal people.
Years later Johnny is in trouble with Talon. Can Bianca save her brother?
Dusty didn't really need any more things to deal with in Miami. That's just too bad for him though, Talon is trying to build an army and Bianca lands right in the middle of it! With a touch she manages to heal her brother and astound Dusty.
Can he help her and her brother and keep the world from going to hell? And how is it possible that this one woman causes so many feelings in him after years of not caring?
This story moves fast and keeps you on the edge of your seat!
I cannot wait for book three!!

I love this series!! Bianca is a healer caught in the fight between the Black and White God. Great action and love that blossoms between Dustin and Bianca. So nice to read a book where sex isn't graphic and in your face. Can't wait to read the next books in the series.

This is the story of how Dusty finds his mate. I have to say this story wasn't really what I was expecting, for one Dusty comes across as an ass most of the time and Bianca (Dusty's mate) is kind of a push over but it works in the story even though I would have liked her to have more of a backbone.
When we see Dusty's house in the eyes of Bianca I think everyone would have the urge to mess up his white and black no dust house a bit. It would kind of drive me insane. Dusty has a problem with getting passed what happened to his sister (it happened a long time ago) and Bianca in her own way helps him get passed it. Darian (the gray god) I love in this book, the way he acts like adolescent does bring some laughs but at the same time shows how his past has effected him so much. We dont see much of Jules or the white god and for that I'm kind of sad about but at the same time we get to know the other characters better and meet new ones. Jen is the Guardian that every man wants and since she had a friends with benefits arrangement with Dusty I was all for hating her and her to be mean to Bianca but to my surprise Jen is a really likable character. She actually pushes Dusty to go to Bianca.
This book has a lot of pain and death in it but it also has new beginnings for a lot of people. Damian's Assassin was a good read and it flowed really well I could have finished it in one sitting but life got in the way.

Revised November 2011.

Shit It's the same thing, well, just about. Characters were okay, plotline good, location good but everything else.

Then the bad things next.

I honestly believe this book is better suited for young adult audiences that want a quick Urban Fantasy. My reason is that lack of sex scenes, fight scene details.

The female copes with the stress of being kidnapped and tortured by Talon. Then she was kidnapped by Dusty, verbally abused, and trapped in the apartment of ass and all she was doing was whining and making cookies and supper for the grey god and the ass. And she takes the crap, she doesn't truly stand up for herself.

I really like Dusty from the first book while he had personality in the first book, apparently lost it somewhere along the way between the first book and starting for the second book.

Once again it felt like Lizzy was trying to hard to make a urban fantasy instead of YA.

If you must read all books in a series then go for it. This book isn't worth reading. I didn't like it much.

This is my honest review for this story. Sorry if people love/like it or even if Mrs/Miss/Ms. Ford reads this, I'm sorry for telling what i feel about this book.

I'm not sure, if i will go onto the third and the fourth book after this book.

Dusty is probably my favorite character. The way he acts so tough but really cares about everyone. When you throw Bianca in the mix it's hilarious. Bianca doesn't listen to what he wants if he wants to cause a fight she just beats around it. I love it.
Johnny I feel bad for, even though he did bring it on himself. This book has a bit more characters in it then the first one and follows more characters around. I really enjoyed it though. You get to get different view points and see where the story is coming from in different angles.
Dusty may be a hard character and not emotional but in truth he just needed someone there to show him his softer side. Sofie started too a little when she showed up but Bianca had a bit more power over him.
This book also shows that there is a bit more to the underlining of the story that there is something bigger in play about to happen.
I didn't like that we got less Damian and Jule but you got to focus on Darian and how much of a teen he is and everything Dusty had to deal with.
