Okay. I officially take back all the criticism I heaped on Naruto. Silly fart jokes? Horrible female characters? Useless fights taking forever? Nope. Compared to Bleach, Naruto is the epitome of considerate, mature, philosophical even, and deeply thought-through manga.

I cannot believe my eyes didn't bleed after reading this. Certainly, the remains of my intelligence recognized they were being insulted and left in a huff. Maybe that's why I'm so baffled as to why is this manga such a hit. I cannot fathom its popularity, maybe except for the significant audience comprising of teenage boys who never had a closer contact with a girl than sitting in a row behind at school (sisters don't count, they never seem to count for some reason). But they sure shouldn't let this title influence their views. I have not read such an unthinkingy mysoginistic manga before, and I can say I've read a few titles.

I propose to change the title, just a little: not Bleach, but Bleh.

Tantalising close to two stars, this 3-1 edition suffers from having a filler story and a rather uninteresting arc sandwich the only good volume. It's full to the brim with clichés, the most common of which being the 'random friendship power ups' (some of which work better than others). Volume 5 is the best of the bunch, as it starts to set up some of the supporting characters' roles, as well as adding to the lore and world building. Another rough re-read, but again, persevering on through it.

I really enjoyed these three volumes. The arc with the TV personality pretty much unleashing a hollow on live tv was a little meh, just because the tv presenter was rather annoying. On the other hand, it makes sense for him to be that way, so it wasn't that big a deal.
The arc where Ishida releases a bunch of hollows on the town and summons Menos is pretty epic. Of course, it's really irresponsible for Ishida to release the hollows just to prove that Quincies are better than Soul Reapers, but it leads to some very interesting developments. Both Chad and Orihime are able to unleash their powers, and it's going to be interesting to see how their powers behave in the future, as well as the decision they make in regards to whether they are going to fight hollows or not. Ichigo and Ishida work together, and by doing so we get more information about how Ichigo's soul energy is constantly flowing out, triggering powers in others. He learns to stop releasing his soul energy for only a little while and unleashes an attack intense enough to make the Menos retreat. The overwhelming amount of soul energy is then about to kill him so Ishida has to help him out, but the concept of Ichigo having such an overwhelming amount of soul energy that it is constantly leaving him and still not declining in amount is going to be cool to see in the future.
Tatsuki is also pretty cool, gotta show some appreciation for her as well.
And then we get left on a cliffhanger as Rukia is surrounded by Soul Reapers sent to capture or kill her, whichever one they prefer. There seems to be some history there that we're going to find out about in the next volume, and it will be interesting to see how well Ishida fairs against fully-fledged Soul Reapers.

The second volume of Bleach 3-in-1 Omnibus Edition reveals more of this universe. Meet Uryu Ishida, a Quincy archer that has the same goal as what Soul Reapers do except destroying Hollows with a single arrow. As the story expands, so are secondary characters and the powers that all along within Orihime and Chad that plays an important role in this series. Of course, more comic relief from Kon and a new character called Don Kanonji, a TV spiritualist that has similar powers as Ichigo and the mysterious Kisuke Urahara, a man with a hat and clogs that seems to know more Ichigo and the rest of the Soul Society. Plus - the appearance of two Soul Reapers that will become important later in the series at the end of this volume and the first major appearance of a giant Hollow name Menos Grande.

The consistency is still there, the revealing of characters is good plus others is giving what Bleach its own recognition. The artwork has a slight improvement from since the first volume and more details are flesh out here. Although the supporting characters (especially the female characters) are weak in existence, what keeps this book is the momentum of pacing that did a good job in story-telling.

Yes! More please!!

Bleach is such serious, emotional, action packed, yet filled with humor to keep you hooked. This volume was so entertaining! I love the little sketches at the end of the chapters. Each character that get's introduced is so unique and none is just there for plot. Everything in the story so far has a purpose.

Looking forward to volume 3.

This one is one of the best because vol. 5 & 6 how a big battle of who is better a Quincy of a Soul Reaper. Ichigo meet Don K. and became friends. At the end of vol. 6 Ichigo fights two other Soul Reapers. WHen the Quincy and Ichigo have the battle to see who is better they see can kill the most hollows but that back fires and a Menos Grande (means "less large" in english), Ichigo's spirte engery was more than enough to force it back.

It only gets better, with the introduction and further development of character the story keeps improving. I love the cast so much, especially the protagonist. Often time I don't connect with the lead of the story, but Ichigo is such a great character, I can't help loving him. Ichida is a great addition to the cast, and the changes with Chad and Orihime are really exciting for the future. Overall, I can't wait for the next one, especially after that cliffhanger.

Was BLEACH ever supposed to get really shitty? Because I'm still enjoying this. Granted, I often enjoy Weekly Shounen Jump battle manga in their earliest chapters, when they're still trying new things, before they settle into themselves. I predict I might drop off when we get firmly into the Soul Society Arc, as kinda happened for me way back when, but we'll see. And, anyway, I only dropped off because Comcast stopped giving me Cartoon Network for a couple years, so I didn't have the chance to watch the anime on [adultswim] anymore, and I guess just didn't feel like reading the manga instead(?).

So I remember Don Kanonji, but I could have sworn Urahara's little kids played around more with Kanonji. Maybe that happens later, or is otherwise part of anime filler? Anyway, this arc took up almost an entire volume, which is nice, moving away from the monster-of-the-week thing and more into monster-of-the-month, I guess. This is expanded in the arc with Uryu summoning all the Hollows (and inadvertently the Menos Grande), which takes up almost the entirety of Volumes 5 and 6, getting the Audience used to longer stories, and thus preparing us for the Soul Society Arc.

We still have a mild slice-of-life flavor here, with all of Ichigo's classmates. The battle alongside Don Kanonji further sparks Orihime, Chad, Tatsuki, and Karin's abilities to see ghosts, which will eventually act to separate certain members of the cast from others; those who can't see ghosts will definitely be cast aside, as will those who can see but cannot fight. The consequence is that certain of Ichigo's friends are given new abilities to aid in the battles against Hollows, further opening the story to "classic" shounenshit tropes.

I like to keep a rough catalog of "asspulls" in my head for each major shounenshit series I read. I've heard many things about BLEACH and asspulls, but none really stuck out from what little I remembered of the anime when I followed it over a decade ago. There is one here, though: Ichigo's spiritual power is so strong, but he cannot concentrate it, so it flows out of his body and Zanpakuto to the point of mingling with the residual spirit energy of Ichigo's peers, granting them powers of their own. Chad gets a red-and-black armored arm. Orihime's hairpin summons six sentient fairies who can interact in different teams for magic spells. This kind of makes sense, I guess, since the overflow of spiritual energy eventually causes Ichigo's Zanpakuto to warp in shape, and I know eventually it will change form with its Shikai release, so I guess it's not really "bad writing" that the spiritual force can affect other spiritual auras (not that Orihime or Chad were ever depicted as having aura-ribbon-things). The "asspull" here, I guess, would be that both characters' powers seem to be based roughly on their personalities and things, as is true for e.g. JoJo's Bizarre Adventure or Hunter x Hunter. Chad was taught by his abuelo to use his strength to protect himself and his friends, and so his power manifests as a big-ass arm. Orihime has the hairpin with the six points, and it was a gift from her brother, and she was there when Ichigo fought her Hollow brother, so the connection allows for power generated from the hairpin... which doesn't really explain the fairies. Chad and Orihime would be fine if we had more characters with abilities generated in this (or a similar) way, but almost all future characters will be part of the Soul-Reaper/Hollow/Quincy dynamic, making Chad and Orihime's powers stand out as sore thumbs (and I think ultimately making them useless in favor of Shinji or Toshiro or Renji or whatever).

It's a shame we're going to throw away the normie cast members. I remember, when I was in middle school, my cousin and I liked Chizuru, the lesbian, because we could agree with her that Orihime's tits were nice. My cousin ended up preferring Rangiku, who will show up later, and maybe this was a consequence of his appreciation of Toshiro (my cousin had a replica of his Zanpakuto). I think I would go on to like Soi Fon most, which maybe informs a more recent appreciation of Rukia as well, though I think it's less for her/their slender body(ies) and more just because Soi Fon's Bankai is cool in the Nintendo DS fighting games. But I'm getting off-topic a little. Well, I guess I could say I like(d) Tatsuki as well, who would likewise be tossed away in favor of the fighter characters, even though she is a martial artist who can see ghosts and thus has more reasonable excuse to join the main cast. Whatever.

Kind of excited for more Byakuya tbh. Forgot how cool he was. Or, at least, I'm nostalgic for when I thought he was cool. Yoruichi is here, too, which is cool because my black cat was sitting on my legs when I was reading this (but my cat is male).

As I said in my review for the first 3-in-1 volume, this isn’t my first time being introduced to this series. I used to watch the anime on adult swim back in either 2006 or 2007 when I was either 13 or 14 years old. Anyway’s once I was caught up on the anime in general, I somehow stumbled upon the manga scans which was how I was introduced to manga (at the age of 14 in 2007, didn’t actually start buying manga until 2009, you can’t blame me, I was 14 I had no money, even at 16 I could only buy one or two books a month because my parents thought more was too much), so every week I read the new chapters (this was during the Hueco Munro arc). I stopped somewhere in the Fake Karakura Town arc. I don’t know why I never finished it, I can’t remember why. It’s not because I wasn’t enjoying it, I’m very bad at finishing book series, tv shows, etc. There are so many I have started years ago and still haven’t finished. Although I am getting better at it. Now that some of the Thousand Year Blood War has been animated, plus I recently rematched the anime openings and wanted to get back into the series again.

I decided to start from the beginning instead of where I left off years ago because I want to refresh myself on what happened since I probably forgot some things and because I just want to experience this series again. I can’t wait for the Soul Society arc, that’s my favourite arc of the series so far.

I relate so much to Ichigo when it comes to having trouble remembering names and faces> It may seem stupid and like I'm careless and don't try to pay attention but it's definitely something that makes life a bit more difficult than people realize. Unless I'm seen that person many times (like at work), is a friend or family or is a character or celebrity I like, I'm probably going to forget what they look like. I actually made the mistake of misidentifying people many times. It was so embarrassing. One time I was at my local library and I had to look for a book that I had previously returned but for some reason still said borrowed on my card and I couldn't find her at the desk, so I went looking for her and I saw a lady who I thought was her but when I went up to her and told her that, she looked confused and said, "that's nice," and then I realized, oops, that's the wrong person.

This volume contains things that happens up to when Renji and Byakuya come to the human world to take Rukia back to the Soul Society, which I think is up to episode 15, although I could be remembering the wrong number. It took 5 volumes to introduce the whole gang: Ichigo, Orihime, Chad and Uryu. Not sure if I should count Rukia (if you’ve seen episode 63or read the volume that is the end of the Soul Society arc (don’t know what number that volume is), then you know why I say this. Like with the 3-in-1 for vol. 1, since I’m so familiar with this series because of how nostalgic and important it is to me, I’m not sure what to say except that I enjoyed this. For people who are new to this series and unfamiliar with it, I think this is a great introduction to the series, especially if you read the 3-in-1 edition instead of the single editions.

Hello, BLEACH. I missed you so much. Even though your coming out with a new arc, the Thousand Year Blood War arc this October, so I thought I’d read the manga while I wait for the show to come back on…and this didn’t disappoint. I missed Ichigo, Rukia, Orihime, Chad, Uryru, and even Kon, and hell, even Kisuke. It did introduce Don Kanoji in the beginning and how Ichigo really hates him in the beginning…

Until Don Kanoji turned someone into a hollow when he came to Karakura Town, and oh boy, it was not good.

Ichigo juimps in to save him and stop the hollow, and Don Kanoji does help, but then at the end Ichgio defeats the hollow and all is good…

Until Uyru enters…and it turns out, Uyuru is a Quincey that hates Soul Reapers. He even goes to Ichigo’s school (shocking) and he gives Ichigo a challenge: to see how many hollows they can kill, and to also see if the world really needs Soul Reapers. Ichigo agrees, and the two go at it, not even knowing that Chad and Orihime’s powers manifested and they destroyed the hollows that were attacking them, and then that’s when a huge Menos appeared after Ichigo and Uryu were surrounded by a whole bunch of hollows, and Ichigo, with help from Uyru, destroyed the menos and all was well…

Until the night Rukia left and then Renji and Byakuya shows up, asking about Ichigo and to take her back to the Soul Society. Before she could do anything, Uyru shows up…and that was it. Am I worried about what’ll happen next? Yes. Am I excited to be reading this again? Yes. I can’t wait to read the next volume to find out what happens next.

Viz continue their popular 3-in-1 editions here, giving you more manga for your money as Bleach receives the treatment in this second installment. The main characters established, this gets off to a shaky start as Kubo decides to focus the opening story on on comedy relief lecherous teddy bear Kon. However the main story soon kicks in as new characters Don Kanonji, a TV spiritualist with dubious real powers, and Uryu Ishida, a 'Quincy' archer who seems to have the same goal as the Soul Reapers but also a hatred for the order, leaving him at odds with Ichigo, and of course a fight breaks out between them. As their rivalry expands into a massive battle, they also have to contend with a city full of angry 'hollows' that they must dispatch - but can they unite against a common foe? Meanwhile some of Ichigo's classmates also seem to have developed powers and are being guided by the mysterious Kisuke.

Many of the typical manga staples are here; protracted battles, everyone getting powers, light 'fan-service', but it should also be remembered that most of the characters are all meant to be high-schoolers so some juvenility does make sense. With so much going on the story does feel stretched thin (certainly where the female characters are concerned) with an inconsistent tone, however I think Kubo is still finding his feet with the characters I would be inclined to overlook this as the story does improve as it progresses.

BLEACH HEATS UP DESPITE A LACKLUSTER FIRST ACT IN VOLUME 2.

I’m reminded more and more as I get further into these omnibus editions why I enjoy Bleach so much. There’s just so much to love - great characters, fantastic actions, high stakes tension all tied together with concise and easy-to-read writing and a gorgeous art style.

Even a bit of a stumble in the first act of this volume - namely, the introduction of and story revolving around one Don Kanonji who I have never cared for, an opinion that remains in this reread - still manages to recover via the impact those events have on Ichigo’s friends amongst the rest of the cast.

Then we get to one of my FAVORITE characters: Ishida! I have always, always, always loved his character. From his Quincy powers, to the balancing he does for the higher energy among the rest of the protagonists through his steady and quiet personality, he remains the same perfect addition to the story I remember.

There’s just so much that happens in this volume that it’s hard to discuss without spoiling some things. From the Menos Grande, to a better look at Urahara and company, to the arrival of the two new Shinigami at the end, I would argue that this is where Bleach truly ‘begins.’

Bleach is still an instant recommendation from me if you’re looking for a new manga to start. I can’t wait to keep things going with volume three soon!

I really enjoyed these volumes since there is A LOT of Urahara.
I mean Ichigo is cool but Urahara is THE MAN.

SLIGHT SPOILERS:

We finally get to know about the powers of Ichigo's companions and for the most part i wish Ichigo had other companions.
- Chad is weird
- Orihime is weird - it feels like Tatsuki would a way better match
- Uryu is a weirdo - he is really jerkish

Urahara is always a BOSS and he is for sure the best part of these 3 volumes.
Also Byakuya. He is a real jerk, but damn he is a cool shinigami captain.

I had some good laughs so it was enjoyable reading this but i wished Tite had wrote more interesting characters honestly, or rather, they are interesting in that most of them are really annoying?!
Even Rukia.

Hopefully the next one will be better.

Not as fun or good as the first omnibus, but it still flexes a little with things it can pull off, like making Kanonji likable by the end of his arc. Also, Bleach has the best tertiary characters of any manga. Tatsuki is GOAT. The thing that stood out the most was how everything feels in motion. We have around a dozen classmates, over half of which are total normies but still feel like actual people. In most manga, these characters wouldn't even be draw with faces, let alone have names and personalities. I don't know how long Kubo had been thinking about this series, but it feels like it was rolling around in his head for years, and if it hadn't, the fact it feels that way is only *more* impressive.

So fun. I forgot about most of these events, so it was like reading it for the first time.

The competition between the Quincy and Ichigo was fabulous. The action scenes are amazing. They’re gorgeously done.

The inborn powers showed up surprisingly early. I thought they would be a few volumes later but they popped up in this one. It was executed quite well!

This was great. I forgot about these battles lol. And the one hit kill LOL.

The Quincy was such a sweetheart to help suppress and let loose Ichigo’s excess soul/spiritual power. Otherwise I suspect we would have major problems.

Such a delight to reread this.

This 3-in-1 started with a volume that fet more like a filler and that added little to the story (volume 4), I would gave it 3 stars, it was just meh... It ended good leaving you curious about the next volume.

Then we have volume 5, for me it's a 4 stars, we had character development for some characters and cool fights in between.

For me volume 6 was a 4.5 or 5 stars. I really liked it, it built up on the lore of Bleach, saw character development, new characters being introduced, cool fights and story as well, the last chapter left me wanting some more o I can't wait to read the next volume!
Overall I felt like this omnibus was a crescendo in quality, so I hope it keeps this path!

I enjoyed this, not quite sure if it was as good as the first collection, I cannot decide, and I think this was as it tried to go too epic. I liked learning about the characters in the first volume, it felt although this one just tried to pump the action up.

The Japanese humour still jumps over my head, the dichotomy of someone fighting to the death alongside the weird humour never lands for me, perhaps it's a cultural thing. It rarely spoils it but it is off putting.

Already have the third volume so I will keep on with this.

Many years ago I read these as single volumes. Re-reading for the nostalgia. These stories are basically just introduction of the major characters. We also meet a lot of minor characters much more interesting than others whom we never see again.
The quality of the storytelling slips slowly but surely from the start to the final issue in this volume. The stories get longer and wordier. It is not all bad but a trend over the entire series.
Still entertaining despite complaints.

Story continues with Ichigo trying to be a normal teenager but with Rukia kidnapping him now and again to help her with her duties. Yes, I am still biased as Bleach is in my top 5 manga :) Doing my reread before watching the final arc. I love the world building, the secrets and helping of souls to reach peace. Characters are reaching depth and everyone wants to keep the world safe.

i think this might be my least favourite bleach volumes so far. i get that it’s still in the introductory stages and kubo is still setting up the story but it feels lacklustre. the fact that ishida is my least favourite character of the karakura quartet probably plays a huge part on why i felt bored while getting through this volume.

I am completely hooked into this story and invested in all the characters and what is to come next. Really compelling stuff. I get why this is one of the big three. Ichigo is goofy, but has a good heart and skills to back it up and isn't just a goof. He's got a heart of gold and he reminds me so much of Itadori Yuuji from JJK. Love him.

After such a long time away from the anime, it was a lot more fun than I expected returning to this story. Still, the Byakuya of volume nine is drawn like a kid. That was definitely a surprising way to see my favorite character again.

It's harder to review this one. With it being 3 volumes in one I must say my rating was downgraded because of how much I hate DK. He is SO annoying! I am glad that part seems to be over, but holy crap I was so incredibly bored during most of this omnibus. Hopefully he never comes back.

Volume 2 of Bleach 3-in-1 edition (4, 5, 6) introduces Ichigo to a new bunch of characters including the TV personality, Don Kanonji, and Quincy, Uryû Ishida. Ichigo learns more about spirits and his own abilities.

Would recommend if you liked Volume 1.
