Although this is one of my favorites, I love the whole Value Tales series. I had them as a child and discovered that lessons can be learned by looking at others lives. I plan on reading these to my own children as they get old enough.

Très inspirant! Même si c'est pour les enfants, il y a beaucoup de textes et de pages qui décrivent très bien le parcours de Marie Curie, de sa naissance à sa mort. Je conseille ce livre fortement!!

Madame Marie Curie was well ahead of her time, an inspiration to all women and an intelligent mind who did so much to further science even at her own peril. The value time books are a wonderful way for kids and adults to learn about the people in history.

Found this at King's Books in Detroit. Bought it out of love for my Birthday Soul Sister, Marie Curie.

Fantastic story for young adults. I still remember the illustrations for radio active material, if you can imagine. This is really an unforgettable series. I never forgot it even as an adult.

I read this book when I was a kid and remember it fondly, and will have to revisit it with my children.

The Value of Learning: The Story of Marie Curie (Value Tales Series) by Ann Donegan Johnson, Illustrator - Steve Pileggi- Children’s Illustrated Colour Picture Book- Marie Curie (1867-1934) was born in Warsaw, Poland under Russian Rule. Poles wanted that Poland should be free from Russian Rule. They lost their money and property in the fight for freedom. Her grandfather taught her Physics. She worked in hard to collect money to go to Paris to join college. Women education was considered import by the society. After admission in University of Paris in 1891. ok ok so my mum was telling me about how she had all the books in this series as a kid, and really loved them, and I saw this in an op shop and it was two dollars so I bought it for her for mothers day. I know it doesn't really count cos it's a picture book and I don't usually add kids books cos it feels like cheating the reading challenge...

But I read it and it's actually really solidly a good book

When I was in 4th grade I found this series in our school library. I checked this book out and read it over and over. It had such a powerful effect on a little girl in the 70s who saw the world of women as a set course, within a man's world.
I wish I could buy a copy for every little girl to read.

Definitely one of my favorites. I loved that she loved to learn and that she understood that sometimes you have to make sacrifices in order to learn. I love that she pursued her goals. I did not know that she won two Nobel prizes - one in physics, the other in chemistry.
