3.5 Definitely not great literature, but I enjoyed reading it. Sometimes I like slow with next to no surprises. Still a war story, though, but one focusing on characters. Also yay for canon non-conforming folks in a book written over 20 years ago.

So bad I could not finish the book, and that's saying a lot as I've read hundreds of sci fi and fantasy books and have rather enjoyed the historical fiction genre (World War in the Balance or Belisarius were ten times better).
