Pig and Trevor await Santa on Christmas Eve and as Trevor heads to bed, Pig says he's staying up all night to wait for Santa. He must be sure he's going to get everything on his list. When Santa arrives with all the gifts, Pig isn't happy. Follow along in the story to find out if Pig's greediness will get him what he wants once and for all.

This has to be one of our favorite Pig books yet! We loved the story and the colorful Christmas illustrations. Our only issue was the abrupt end. This is definitely a keeper and would be a wonderful gift for young children this Christmas.

As a longtime pug owner who is extremely well-versed in the ways of the pug, I doubt any pug would stay awake all night waiting for Santa... presents or no. Pugs are expert nappers. ;)

That greedy canine Pig the Pug returns in this fourth picture-book devoted to his adventures, eagerly awaiting the coming of Santa, and LOTS of presents. His companion Trevor, a sweet Dachshund, is more moderate in his desires (and more loving in his note), but Pig wants it ALL. When the Christmas gift-giver appears, and doesn't leave enough to satisfy him, our pug anti-hero gives him a good nip on the behind. Has Pig finally gone too far...?

Like its predecessors, Pig the Elf pairs an entertaining tale told in rhyme - "I asked for MORE! / hollered Pig is dismay. / But Santa turned 'round / and then hurried away. / "Hey!" shouted Pig, / sounding very unkind. / Then he nipped poor old Santa's / big, rosy behind!" - with bright, colorful acrylic illustrations that perfectly capture the humor of the story. I'm still not sure why the American publisher of these hilarious Australian picture-books isn't bringing over the second ( Pig the Fibber ), but I'm glad they've published the other three, as they are quite entertaining. Pig always manages to survive the consequences of his bad behavior, which, while not exactly edifying, is always fun. Recommended to readers who enjoyed the earlier books about Pig, and to anyone looking for new Christmas picture-books with a somewhat quirky sense of humor.

I was disappointed that this book used the word losers in it and showed such greed and disrespect.

I found this book to be pretty cute except for the ending, that ending was pretty bad. However, if you are not into language (not the bad kind) but stuff like: heck, losers, fools, cheapskate..this might not be for you. It is a book about being greedy, and how it is bad. Nothing is really resolved. The dog bites Santa in the butt. So you make your own decision about this one. If you are looking for a nice holiday read, this might not be the one for you. If you are just looking for a small laugh, then by all means, this is the book for you sir!

I first heard about this naughty pug on a family vacation when I learned that my sister likes to read these books with her eight-year-old daughter. We enjoyed a few hearty laughs over Pig the Monster, Pig the Star and Pig the Tourist. Watch what happens when Pig stays up late to meet Santa and gets too greedy about the presents. Fun rhyming verses combined with vivid comic images will keep readers of all ages entertained! I can’t wait to see a TV show of this series! I have been reading the books out of chronological order, but it doesn’t matter, there are no issues with continuity here.

Pig the Pug is now Pig the Elf... he is waiting for Santa on Christmas Eve and being pretty bad.

He won't go to bed with sweetie Trevor and Pug has asked for so much that Santa can't fill all of the wants. This is a read-along that seemed to have a poorly constructed ending. I didn't think there was a clear moral or consequence stated for small children.

I didn't care much for the story.

The colors and artwork are eye catching from the very beginning. I did judge the book by its cover! I love this holiday story about a greedy pup with an outrageous Christmas list for Santa. This book made me laugh out loud, especially when Pig and Santa encounter each other. Could there have been a resolution though where Santa gets revenge for Pig's selfishness in some way?

Such a fun book. I just love Pig the Pug and Pig loves Christmas. He can't wait to get all the gifts from Santa. The rhyming is great and kids will love reading about Pig and Trevor. The ending was a bit rushed but kids won't mind. They will probably be wanting to read this book over and over.

This is my first Pig book! I thought it was cute though. The rhyming was fun and bouncy. I’d like to see a regular Pig book. 🤔

Had fun reading this to the nephews. It’s a cautionary tale of what happens if you are greedy at Christmas.

I totally recommend Aaron Blabey for ALL very young readers and pre-schoolers (and their parents and grandparents), especially those who are reluctant or not committed to reading (and their parents and grandparents!). Blabey is on an absolute roll with diabolical Pig the Pug and gorgeous, gentle Trevor the sausage dog! It's even more of a treat to see the book read with gusto and a grin, by Aaron Blabey on StoryBox Library, the Australian story portal (enter with your public library card number). Not only are the words fast-flowing and funny, but the illustrations are brilliant, and reward the young reader who can spot the intricate and funny details.

I bought this in a scholastic set of three books, not knowing anything about the series but I thought it looked cute and would be funny and charming. But it wasn't. I feel like if a children's book is going to be about a selfish pug that there should be some moral to the story to teach children that being selfish is not a good thing. But this story had other problems for me besides the lack of a moral. If Santa knows when you are sleeping and knows when you are awake, why would he show up if the pug is awake waiting for him? That just didn't work for me. Let him fall asleep and then be awakened by Santa or something so it makes more sense. Also, there isn't anything to indicate he is an elf besides having a costume and calling him elf once. It isn't really even part of the story. I also hated that the book seemed to think that biting someone is a good way to deal with frustration. I didn't find it amusing and neither did the kids I read it to. And then the ending is so abrupt I thought I had skipped pages or something. And when I realized I hadn't skipped pages, I thought that it must be that this particular book was missing the pages containing the ending. (Ironically, the movie Elf came to mind of the publisher purposely printing the book with missing pages). So, to me this book has no ending. It just stops. I love Christmas stories and collect children's books but I don't think this is going into my permanent collection. Very disappointed by something that could have been very cute.

PIG THE ELF is a silly holiday picture book great for fans of Pig the Pug. Pig is up to his usual antics, crafting a very long list for Santa of all the things he wants. When Santa comes and brings presents for both him and Trevor, Pig is upset to not have everything he wanted. He decides to bite Santa and attaches himself to Santa's rear. When Santa tries to escape, Pig comes along for the ride, until he finally loses his grip and falls- landing atop a tree as its star.

What I loved: This is a silly book that is sure to make young children giggle with Pig being his usual naughty self - but with a holiday twist. Children will be able to detect the problems with Pig's behavior and the ways we shouldn't act around gifts and at the holidays. The story is told in rhyme, which rolls off the tongue and is particularly fun to read aloud. The accompanying illustrations are full of color, holiday details, and expressive characters that add to the fun for young readers.

What left me wanting more: While Pig is always a bit naughty, I would have rather not had a physical confrontation (biting Santa), as it's a bit much, especially with the bottom, but it will make children laugh.

Final verdict: A silly holiday read to make children giggle, PIG THE ELF features the naughty Pig with new Christmas-related antics.

Please note that I received a review copy. All opinions are my own.

This book takes place during christmas time and tells the story of a greedy little pug who wants a ton of gifts for christmas. He is willing to stay up all night to watch santa give him his presents, once he sees santa come leave his gifts he begs for more. This lead pig the pug to learn the hard way that greed is not good. This book is written and illustrated in a comical way to make the reader laugh. The writing rhymes and is separated out differently on each page, with some of the text in bigger fonts at the end of the sentence. The illustrations are all mainly done green, red, white, and black because it is meant to be a christmas themed book. The illustrations depict the pug in a funny way by making his eyes bulgy and making him wear a santa costume. This is what originally caught my eye about this book, I like funny picture books and I could tell this was going to be creative and make me laugh. I Think this is a good non-fiction fun read for younger children. It is easy to read and follows, plus the photos go hand in hand with what the words are describing so a young child wouldn't be confused.

Yes, Pig the Pug is greedy! His greed is almost too much for me and I was hoping that he would have a change of heart, like the Grinch. It’s Christmas Eve and Pig has his friend Trevor over. Trevor is sweet and he tries to persuade Pig to do the right thing but Pig is greedy. The two are looking at their lists for Santa and Trevor has written on a piece of paper that he would like “something nice” for Christmas. Pig’s Christmas list is a scroll, amounting to what Toys R Us would have on their search engine. He wants everything! Trevor heads off to bed but Pig is not thinking about sleep, he wants to see Santa and all his presents. As Santa arrives and leaves the gifts for Pig and Trevor, Pig is not happy with what he receives and he lets Santa know.

I think some children will laugh when they read this book about Pig as it is extreme and ridiculous what he does but I got tired of his attitude. I liked Trevor more as he knew what to do and he tried to influence his friend but he wasn’t mean or domineering. I think I have had enough of Pig. 2.5 stars

PIG THE ELF is about a dog named Pig who loves Christmas, but it isn't for the spirit or joy. He loves Christmas because of the presents, presents, and presents. His list this year is extra long and Pig doesn't want to go to sleep so Santa can come. He wants his presents now so decides to stay up all night.

As a greedy dog, Pig isn't happy with the amount of gifts he's given and is mad at Santa. I have a feeling Pig will be on the naughty list next year. Pig is the perfect example of how you shouldn't act on Christmas.

This book was funny and one that's made to be read on Christmas Eve. For a book with humor, it still reads very smoothly and light. I also the addition of Trevor who's the good dog.

Final Verdict: I would recommend this to children who love humor, dogs, and/or Christmas. I will be saving this to reread to my daughter on Christmas Eve.

Blabey, Aaron Pig the Elf. PICTURE BOOK. Scholastic, 2017. $15.

Pig is excited for Christmas and really, really greedy. When Santa doesn’t bring him every present on his wish list, Pig gets mad and expreses his displeasure in a most physical way. Pig the Pug won’t be able to get away with that though. He will receive his comeuppance and Trevor will be happy to witness it.

Pig is hilarious; his books make for an amusing story time.

Wow! Pig the Pug is a naughty pup! When he doesn't get EVERYTHING from his Christmas list, he bites Santa on his "big, rosy behind!"

This outrageous behavior is sure to bring about laughter galore! The ending is a bit of a let down, though. I found myself wondering, what happens next?

The illustrations are bright, silly and engaging. They compliment the text well. Pre-readers can easily tell the story without being able to decode the text.

Audience: EC-3
Connections: Christmas, greed, rhyming

Pig the pug err, Elf, thinks Santa should fork over ALL the presents. When the greedy dog stays up late and spies on Santa, things could end in disaster if Pig doesn't get what he wants.

Oh dear. Yes, Pig is saved by an angel, but he also kind of gets what he deserves for his greed. A hilarious cautionary tale that made me laugh out loud. I guarantee some won't get the humor and will hate this. That's ok, there are other Christmas books out there. If you enjoy slapstick, this is the Christmas book for you.
