In a world full of super powers, Felix had a pretty crappy one.
He has the ability to modify any item he owns. To upgrade anything.
Sounds great on paper. Almost like a video game.
Except that the amount of power it takes to actually change, modify, or upgrade anything worthwhile is beyond his abilities.
At least, that was until Felix leveraged a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to give himself a great deal of points.
Investing in Super Heroes and Super Villains and owning them. Using them, Felix built up an empire.
An organization by the name of Legion.
Felix got what he wanted.
He pushed, pulled, fought, and dug his way through the world to get Legion, or more accurately, the Association, to the fore-front of the world's politics.
In doing so, he lost something he couldn't afford to.
Andrea Elex had been lost in the final moments of everything coming together.
Now Ryker and Runner have come calling to get those favors repaid he promised them, except he only has one thing on his mind. Getting Andrea back and as soon as possible.
Fighting against Zeus with the Overgod and the Architect, finishing his business with the Guild of Heroes and League of Villains, pushing the Association and the Legion to the pinnacle of power.
All of those things were on his to do list, but to Felix there was only one real answer.
I do it to myself, I know. Reading these is so painful it hurts. I kept reading all the various series for the Runner-verse tie-ins, hoping something cool would happen. It happened in the beginning of this book, and it wasn't cool. It was confusing, made no sense, and was essentially just an exercise in throwing as many characters from the different series into a pile as possible. And then it was over, and I had 80% of the book left.
This has always been my favorite of the series because of the extremely thin superhero theme and the main character's powers, but none of that matters anymore, and instead I'm left with what passes for dialogue now from this author. It used to be somewhat ok, with my only big gripe being that thing he does where someone is talking and the MC literally just zones them out and we only get to hear the tail end of it because if it wasn't important to him, it isn't important to us I guess. Then the books got overloaded with "I mean..." every page or two, which was absolutely horrible and made me feel that physical violence might be the only remedy, and now I get this crap, an actual line of dialogue copied verbatim:
"I-you-yeah! Sure! Yes!"
That might be tolerable if it only happened a couple of times to show being flustered, embarrassed, caught by surprise, etc. Except it happens approximately 400 times in just this one book. Every single female character, which is everyone but the MC in this book in case you weren't aware, is SO flustered and unable to hide their feelings and emotions and lust and ga-ga over the MC that they are constantly speaking just like that snippet above. It becomes exhausting having it forced upon us that they are breathless and surprised and overcome with emotions for this literal god of a man. While I am thankful that Kindle Unlimited must get the sanitized versions now (maybe people pay for the adolescent fantasy versions on Patreon or something?), it makes me think of the number of panties that would be ruined if this world really existed, because every single female that meets the MC immediately gets flustered and can't speak in complete sentences.
You know, it used to frustrate me that stuff like Twilight sold so well with female audiences. I read those books to see why they were so popular, and I crapped all over them at the time. I take it all back. I can't imagine these books do very well with the female crowd, so there must be a subset of males that just eat them up and give them 5* reviews. Yes, I'm guilty for reading them too, and giving the author whatever KU money my reading generates, but at least I realize they are trash. Twilight is mf'ing War and Peace compared to these books. I'm sorry for saying anything bad about Twilight. If I were strapped down Clockwork Orange style and forced to listen to an audiobook over and over, I'd choose Twilight over anything this author has written any day. May God have mercy on my soul.
I think this series has run its course for me. Still interesting, just not something I want to re-read —- like the first book.
One of the bigger problems I have is the world got too big. I was struggling to keep up with who…everything. Dozens of characters with multiples of some and…. Then there were the call outs to his other series, some of which I have read.
It’s just become too much. It’s good if you are looking for some closure on long-standing plot threads. But I prefer a smaller, more focused narrative.
Sadly I couldnt get very far in this book. I had to go back to look through the previous worksin the Runner Norwood universe to try and remember all the characters that kept popping up.... literally!
There was no discernable storyline, just random wierd stuff going on. I had read almost all of the other Runner-verse trilogies as well as vale verse, the ax falls, overclocked and the honor of duty. Though some resonated more with me than others, l enjoyed them all. I had also hoped for additional sequels to the Vale-verse, monster's mercy, fostering faust, dungeon deposed and honor of duty.
This book was a big disappointment. It didnt wrap anything up, jus left me confused and scratchin my head. Oh well, I see that there is a new series that wil be released in early February, which I will read. Everyone misses the mark sometimes and the author consistantly turns out intriguing work with interesting characters, so I miss is no big deal.
Dnf I got about a quarter of the way in and.... It's just disappointing. The first few chapters are a flurry of activity, pepe appearing and disappearing, but nothing really happens, then suddenly the main character is sent back to his original world with "some things changed" and everyone else will take care of the big bad without him. I know this stuff is probably covered in the other series, and maybe I'll go back and read those series later, but without any context this does a bad job of setting things up. There is no payout, he just gets his wife back without any way of fighting for her or anything, she's just there and everyone just goes on like nothing happened. Oh, and the awakening was simple and he aubverted it by making a goddess fall in love with him and that's it. Two lines of dialog to explain it like it was an after thought. If you read the other series maybe you'll like it, but I think it's disjointed enough you might not even then.
From the start this has been an interesting series; the main character is not your normal protagonist. He makes a lot of mistakes, and isn't necessarily a front line fighter most of the time.
A very human super powered main character with a very unique super power. I definitely recommend reading.
So, the basic premise of the storyline is still good. Vince and Felix are best when they were simply building their cities and empire and growing their circle. In my opinion, things have gotten too complicated and too fantastic. I’ve never been a fan of the whole harem thing, and the attempts at the flirting and banter is a little too juvenile. I just don’t think the relationships work. However, I still like several of the supporting characters and there is good action. The interaction with the supreme beings is another issue; they can do practically anything but communicate! And still need foot soldiers? The series has been pretty good but started slipping recently. I hope things turn around in the future, sometime simple is best.
From a wage slave at a fast food drive thru to a God in six not so easy lessons.
Felox.Campbell, A down on your luck nobody was the possessor of a useless power. Grasping at one last straw, he borrows a fortune from the local mob to try and change his future. But the deal went bad when the boxes he bought turned out to be ful of human remains barely alive, tortured to bloody ruins, but still alive. So begins the roller coaster life of a man on the way to the top. Lots of highs and lots of lows, and a fair bit of sexy time! A good series with a slam bang ending! Give it a shot, you won't regret it!
So, so much progress made in the main storyline, but still in a really clean way, kind of. I really liked how some parts went a bit slower and nicer, and then it'd pick up action soon after, right when you might want it to. Honestly, the only thing I'd change about this book is I'd like there to be even more emphasis on the affection and care between Felix and his wives. That's what sets Arand's books apart, in my opinion. A lot of other harem type novels just feel like they're checking off boxes or it's some transactional crap relationships. Anyway, loved it. Can't get enough.
The amount of spelling issues and a couple times the wrong character was put in as saying something that they weren't actually there for. I enjoyed the conclusion because... Well I don't want to spoil anything. If you're reading this you should know what to expect by now and if you want to read the book. There needs to be a cheat sheet at the start of these books for a brief rundown on all the characters up to that point. It becomes a problem trying to keep everything straight.
It feels like some force assaults a legion HQ like every book. And then MC has to spend points to bail them out. It's probably not that often but it was often enough to make me sigh.
Also, where the f is Victoria? Yeah she was mentioned a few times, and MC knows she's missing. But he's literally a god now, and at one point he tore open the universe and plucked his pseudo-dad from another reality and brought him over, surely he can do something about Victoria. She was such a faithful bodyguard.
It was a fun ride like all of Arand’s SSSH books. Lots of fun tie-ins and a nice conclusion to this part of the series if that is what it is. At least this time I really felt like it was a full telling and I wouldn’t object to a secondary role unlike the other trilogies. Either way, I enjoyed it and am looking for the other side of the stories. Hopefully Wild Wastes or Super Save next
Six books in and still as entertaining and charming as the first.
However, it's gotten extremely disorienting. There needs to be a recap and character list at the start of the book. When switching locations there needs to be a tag showing that. Felix and Co kept jumping around from one world to another in this one and you had no idea until some context clues gave it away.
Look, I get there's a gentleman's agreement to not hold these goofy popcorn books up to usual literary standards, but there's a limit to the number of tolerable plot holes.
The MC has the ability to modify anything he owns in any way possible using a resource he has plenty of. He has many, many problems that he fails to even ask to solve since... well, if he did, plot wouldn't happen?
Happy and sad for the end of this series in equal measure. It was one of the first haremlits I'd ever read so it holds a special place. The beginning was a bit of a cluster F, but I think that's what Arand wanted as Felix was confused himself. I'm just glad there wasnt a cliffhanger of an ending.
This was a brilliant end book to the second trilogy, reading hoping that we don't have to wait too long for a third trilogy. Loved having even more miu, as you and coffin are brilliant characters. Loved how Goldie is still making her Dragon housewives and how Andrea got pancake day as a religious holiday.
A tense, thrilling, fun read with entry of interspersed humour to get a laugh out of you and bring some levity to the otherwise chaotic and often explosive battlefield as Felix brings things to a close.
But with an epilogue like that and knowing the author and his vast written universe, I'm hoping for fun future reads!
This author is definitely one of my favorites and this series one of his best. The “Andrea’s” have me constantly working to not laugh out loudly. Am hoping for more books in this series since I was already surprised by books 4-6. Can’t wait to see what the Campbell brothers get up to next.
I enjoyed this series when it was just a guy and his girls, but once you get a cast of hundreds from four book series, I felt lost. The ending was satisfying, but I couldn’t keep up with who was who. I thought Talia was a dragon for half the book because I forgot where she was introduced. Crossovers are hard, man.
Felix has his work cut out for himself in this wild ride in enormous story arc that is the Runner-verse. Anything is a spoiler at this point. If you're planning on reading this, you're a fan. Pancakes!
Who are they fighting? Why are they fighting? All of these characters the author is throwing at us and I have no idea who most of them are. I loved the first 3 books in this series, but after that it just seems like a totally different person started to write this trash. I only read the first 5 chapters and gave up.
I love how in this story the MC makes the most improvements and changes in mindset to himself! Definitely a nice change of pace of him thinking outside the box. If you’ve read Will’s other books you’ll like this one as well, enjoy!
Not gonna lie, I had no idea what was happening for the first 15% of this book. Felt very all over the place. Then a more consistent narrative kicked in and the rest was a fun read. Thought it was a good ending to the current arc.
This book was pretty good but I wish more of the answers came. Like some of the characters what happened to them and why. As well as why some characters did what they did.
I really enjoyed this series. It was very well plotted and written. Complex enough to keep me interested and guessing as to what came next, but still able to follow what was happening. Thanks for a great story.
This book was a psychotic mess of the series characters as people die, reform, become deities and pray to their gods. This story was so wacky it was hard to follow, hopefully the author can correct it for the next book.
The book seemed poorly edited, with the first 3rd pretty jumbled, and in general kept finding mention of plot items that were not mentioned before, and taken for granted here
Sustaining a series is hard work. Resisting the urge to toss everything into one stew pot is difficult. This is a good and never ending story? A personoe dramatis at the beginning of the book would be nice?
So much happening, much like all the prior installments. Plot is fast paced and unpredictable. I wad engaged from the beginning through to the very end. Teared up a few time, laughed a lot,
One of the least annoying Super Sales Why do I keep reading these when they piss me off so much? Because they are kinda fun, when they aren't being reprehensible. At least they finally admitted out loud that Felix is a villain.
The main dude has the multiverse wrapped around his finger and nothings a threat anymore. That and the fact half the book a either playing harem manager or is making cameo's to the author's other series, is the reason why I rate this one so low.
