When psychos fall...

A whole family of monsters has menaced my home for far too long. And in the battle to take them down, one of resurrected gangsters I love may have lost his life all over again.

Final Review (5/19/23): I read this literally four months ago but I reviewed it in my notebook at the time. Uni just got in the way of me engaging with my GR account and reviews, but I am back at least for the summer. This is officially the first series that I have read and reviewed to completion; this series holds a special place in my heart for that. Launching into the review as written in late January. <333

This action-packed book provides a fitting conclusion to our journey with Lily and her Skullbreakers. Perhaps I am not against “biker-gang books” when provided an eerie supernatural backdrop. The tension that was built from Grave Misconduct had some important clarification, that made it no less disturbing. However, I struggle with the lack of why… in evaluating the actions of the Guantts. For a conclusion to a series, there are still too many unanswered questions. I understand this is a Paranormal Romance with the attention being the smut but I could have used a more fleshed-out reasoning for the abuse of children.

Now, the Guantts’ ending was handled in a … chef’s kiss, perfectly plotted way. The world-building and context were sublime. In prior reviews, I indicated concern about the development of the relationships between Lily and some of her harem in the first book, but that was solved by now. The boys are a motorcycle gang but I enjoyed Eva Chase’s decision to keep the criminal organization smaller and more personal.

Overall, this series is solid receiving a 4 star GR rating from every book, but it never was amazing or transformative. Based on the descriptions of some of Chase’s other series, I might find a 5 there when I have time to explore.

Pre-publication thoughts (1/23/2022): I am so excited for this to come out in February. To be honest with most series I've read, I fall out of the habit of reading them around publication time but this series has not had that happen. So let's make it 4 for 4 and read this hopefully action-packed finale near it's date of publication. I need the Guants to pay for what they have done!

Pre-read thoughts (2/25/22): 16 days after release and when I meant to start this book. Here I am starting it... I am super excited and concerned after the cliffhanger in the 3rd book. I am sad my experience with this series is soon to be over but I cannot wait to see how this concludes.

Pre-read thoughts (5/7/22): My reading slump stopped me in my tracks with this one but I will be returning and I will start over so I can give this finale a full chance. I will pick this up in later May or early June at the latest because I still need answers!!!

Terrific ending to a very original series!

The following ratings are out of 5:
Romance: 💙💚❤️💜💖
Steam: 🔥🔥🔥🔥
Story/Plot: 📕📗📘📙📔
World building: 🌏🌍🌏🌍🌎
Character development: 🤓😉☺️😍🥰
Narration: 🎙🎙🎙🎙🎙
Narration Type: Dual Narration

The heroine: Lily - she now has the memory of her past and she knows who was responsible for putting her in a psychiatric institution and keeping her there for seven years. They were also responsible for kidnapping her sister. She has supernatural powers of the marsh, she has an affinity toward frogs and power over water, or any liquid. She is able to create a wave and even has power over blood. She can stop someone’s heart.

The Heroes: Nox, Kai, Ruin, Jett - They were the four leaders of the Skullbreakers motorcycle gang and all four of them were murdered 21 years ago. They stayed in the town marsh for the entire time and saved Lily from drowning when she was little. Now they have returned from the dead by killing, then taking possession of 4 guys who bullied Lily. They have re-formed their gang and have supernatural powers.
Nox - he was and is the president of the Skullbreakers MC. He took over the body of a college professor and he has the supernatural power to punch people without even actually connecting with their body.
Kai - he is the genius of the gang and has the supernatural power of the mind. He is able to make people do things, like attack each other or kill themselves.
Ruin - he is an idealist and optimist and always looks on the bright side. He has power over electricity and is able to push his emotions on to people.
Jett - he is an artist and is introverted, he doesn’t speak unless he has something important to say. He has the power to change the shape or color of things.

The Story: it seems that every time our gang comes up against an opponent, it is worse than the last time. Just when they think they are about to be in the clear, another gang seems to come at them full force. The Skeleton Core gang seems to have an unlimited number of members and they are on the payroll of Lily and the guy's main enemies, the wealthy and supernaturally powerful Guantt family and the more they learn about the past of this family, the worse it gets.

One thing I really liked about this whole series was the fact that there was much more action and romance than steamy times. Sometimes in reverse-harem romance there is such a priority on having so many intimate sessions between the heroine and each of the Heroes that there ends up being too many steamy scenes and not enough story, but I really liked the balance in this series. Don’t get me wrong, it was plenty steamy, just not enough to make it too smutty. Though I know some people like their reverse-harems smutty, I like them to be more story focused. Plus, the way the guys love and cherish Lily was terrific in this series.

This audiobook was told in multiple points of view via dual narration. It was narrated by Hollie Jackson and Joe Arden. These two did a fantastic job on this entire series. Each of them has a bunch of different voices for different characters and both of them are very pleasant to listen to.

Deathly Delinquency is the fourth and final installment of the Gang of Ghouls series. Even though the rating has been the same for each and every book, this one was probably my favorite. I think it's mostly because I was finally starting to get some answers. Maybe even more action in some ways where I would have been bored.

Long story short, I just ended up liking the heck out of this book. The gang was getting closer and closer to getting rid of their enemies and saving everyone under their clutches. They definitely had some ups and downs along the way but eventually they made their overall goal. Which, yes, made me extremely happy.

In the end, I'm sort of glad that I stuck with this series. Even though I didn't get all the answers I really wanted, it was still entertaining till the very last page. I'm glad that they are finally a family and living their HEA out.

Fuck it. I did it.

Finally this shit is over. I wouldn’t say it was the best book I have read. I wouldn’t even say it was in the top ten.

Anyway has the author like a rule to always put three sex scenes in her books? Cause it does seem like it. Firstly Jett had a little fun with Lily on a matress in a cold room while others were sleeping in the same room. Couldn’t be a better place could it? Oh and he made a dildo and fucked her with it. No i did not write that wrong HE MADE a dildo. Ah an artists work fir sure.

Second scene was the most extreme one probably. ALL of them. Nox just woke up from a coma and what better to do than have a little fuck Session. Nox fucked her first but then he noticed the others around him and thought: Well we can’t leave them out, can we? So then Kai was on the bed and Lily on him while Jett came from the back to fill Lilys OTHER HOLE. Yea because one isn’t enough. Oh and Ruin played with her chest meanwhile and Nox watched his „masterpiece“ which he created by commanding this sex position.

Third scene was only with Jett and Kai. In the woods. At night. Near a highway. Yea normal fucking I would say.

Finally the Gauntts are dead. Seriously the whole moment we all been waiting for took like three pages. That was so fucking short. For me it ruined the book a lot. I mean the answer was not even that creative. Just drown them with marsh water. Thats it.

The end was ok. Always the „one year later“ is pretty boring. Sure cool that they all live happy ever after. But did we have to make a last sex scene on the last page. Wasn’t really necessary I believe.

So this was a pretty decent series and totally different than what I'd been expecting when starting. Lily and her men are quite literally a gang of ghouls and I'm happy they found a way to live peacefully and vanquish their enemies. I'm glad they also get to keep their powers, a pretty cool side effect for them along with their actual lives of course :P It also makes me happy the guys didn't really grow the gang into some big thing because even after all this, for me they just don't fit that vibe. Them all being able to find a work around while still having power in the area, minions etc. couldn't have played out better for them. The one thing I wish we got was more backstory on the baddies and how/why they had power. It's clear why Lily and her men 'changed' but with the Gauntt families magic chants and history I feel like there's a whole other story there I have questions about. Overall this was a fun series. Getting to watch the group target the Gauntt's with taunts like the parade float and a then get a HEA was all I needed in this final book!!

Ok

The series started out really strong. It seemed like the characters were pretty great and were well-developed.
While there is nothing wrong with the story line, I kind of lost interest by book 3. It got harder and harder to keep reading. I can't really pinpoint what it was that made me lose interest. It's almost like it just got boring because it was more and more of the same types of events happening. It's worth reading, but it's definitely not the best series written by this author. She's one of my favorite authors, but this series just didn't work for me.

I have no idea why I waited this long to read the last book in this series. I always have that with last books. Finishing the last book is never the problem. Starting the last book is. As if I know that when I start, the journey will be over in a couple of hours. However, I was looking for an easy read (so I can continue Bonds that Tie tomorrow) and I saw this one was still in my TBR cart. I decided this was the perfect moment to finally finish it.

Since all the relationship-building and character-growth has been done in the previous three books, this book is quite action-packed. Our characters know what they have to know. They gained the powers to do what they have to do. They now have to find a way to best the enemy. And since the enemy has been doing this for a long time and has enslaved quite a lot of people without them knowing about it, it's not that easy.

And that's exactly what I loved about this finale. Although our characters have powers, their enemies have powers too. They can't just use brute force. They can't just storm in and do what they have to do. They have to play it smart. During this book they come up with all kinds of tactics and scenarios, some slightly more successful than others and it takes a while to find the right one that eventually does the job. And that one is also about intelligence and not brute force.

I also love the message in this book. I won't say this series is that deep, because it isn't, but I like how our heroine realizes in this book that people are capable of a lot more if others believe in them. And sometimes taking care of your enemy means finding others feeling the same and empowering them to help you out. And although I'm usually not a great fan of happily ever after chapters, I really enjoyed this one! It was the perfect kind of closure for this story and these characters.

Not book-specific, but series-specific rating: 4.25-4.5⭐️’s rounded up.

I’d like to say I’ll have a better RTC, but I have ADD and am fantasizing about the next book/series to come…. So I’d be lying. LOL! 🤷‍♀️😋

That’s not meant to negate what I encountered with this series.

It was such a refreshing take on a standard trope. Completely unique in comparison to many series’s I’ve read over the years. I like how the FMC’s boys and her were trying to figure out their newly acquired/realized powers, while figuring out their lives in general, from the massive shit show it was before they “officially” met. I also loved how they all were so intertwined where they all knew they’d not be who/what/where they are without their makeshift family, and never took it for granted.

My only qualm, bc I’m a perv: I wish there were more sexy times. But at this point I’m being nit-picky and am “detoxing” from a series I read prior to this that was almost all sexy times and no plot. In all honesty, and don’t quote me on this, I think I prefer the less sexy times (this book) to support the author’s character, relationship and world building that drew you into the plot.

There is so much action in this book. It's pretty nonstop from get go right to the end.
We still don't get all the answers surrounding the Gauntts, and their whole storyline is pretty dark, but we do get an explosive ending.
It's very much a HEA with all the trimmings, and everyone has their own role and something special that they bring to the relationship.

While I continued to like the characters, the plot was kind of lackluster. There wasn't a whole lot going on and I feel like the series could have been three books instead. I also felt like some things weren't answered about the enemies did what they did with the children. Just because seems to be what we're going with, I guess.

The guys were funny though and there's still plenty of skull bashing and spice to keep you entertained.

I only finished this for the closure. I lost interest in the story somewhere in book 2. All the “conflict” is so….cheesy? Idk. Ridiculous? And their solutions? A new power, some mysterious magic. This series had a good premise, but the execution is pretty terrible. I wonder if this was a wattpad story

it was ok. To be honest, it felt like it could have been a two book series instead of four. the first and last books were the best in the series.
Saw more action, more spice, more fight for justice, and more Characters embracing who they are after the bad in their lives to make a better life.

I like that they practise safe spice. I like that they acknowledge abuse and what long term affects different types can have. From neglect to physical abuse. I liked the idea of the MCs, I just wish their story was stronger, e.g, how did the Guants find their powers??? I like the frogs and the funny elements they bring to the story.

so I like many things, but to me, it could have been stronger somehow.

Over

Last one, and I'm happy for their hea! They road they had to cross along the 4 books was a hard one, with a lot of obstacles but I'm happy with this ending.

Lily found her own strenght to finish it, and all the guys know where they stand and what they can do if they put their mind to it.

The baddies were handled perfectly.

Great series with questions right till the end, great writing and world building 5 stars, 2 chili's on a scale of 5

ARC review::

Just when I thought the baddies couldn’t get any worse, boy did they! They definitely got what they deserved. As for our main characters, it was about time for their HEA’s :) I absolutely loved this series and will be going back to reread often.

This is the fourth and final book in this incredible series and it’s a doozy! Lily and her guys have been though so much, seen so much, and finally beat the Gauntts. It’s been one hell of a journey, it’s been exciting and full of danger, action and so much more and I have very much enjoyed seeing their relationships grow and develop and I have loved this adventure and their ending!

Wow, that did not go the way I was anticipating it would! I’m a little sad we didn’t get more steamy screen time than we did but for being a much more non-romantic plot heavy RH it was still an enjoyable read.

I really liked Eva Chase’s writing style, the flow was honestly perfect which is hard to do when switching POVs like she did, and it was punctuated with humor that kept things light even when stuff turned gruesome. The over arching story itself was incredibly unique and interesting, the guys were varied and well rounded as individual characters and as a coherent gang, and the FMC was a badass. And she wasn’t a badass in the “I’m better/cooler than you” way that a lot of fmcs with backbones are; she was still relatable, she had doubts, she wasn’t ignorant and she didn’t lament asking for help, she had to work hard for what she wanted and what she thought was right, and she grappled with the heavy stuff in a fairly normal way. Yeah, the guys are violently inclined and extreme but they had a strong sense of morality and justice that she appealed to and I think she helped even them out.

I loved their relationships too and the heavy emphasis on “we all bring something to the table” which I think in a lot of RH is in the subtext but not always verbalized, and the way she did it was just perfect. Jett’s doubts and reservations made me love him even more than just his twisted artist soul. Ruin was the happy go lucky omega type but he also had depth and was open and honest about his upbringing and his feelings with Lily, his gentle affection and optimism was a nice contrast to the other content in the series. Kai grows on you, at first he’s cold and calculating, keeping his distance and hiding behind his people analyzing ways but when he finally lets himself feel his feelings for Lily he’s super passionate and it’s so incredibly sweet that he tries so hard to ne softer for her. Nox was my least favorite, the alpha type boss that needed to order people around and put a ton of pressure on himself to keep them together; but he still has lots of redeeming qualities like his undying devotion and his panty melting dirty talk.

The Gauntt stuff got really dark, and part of me feels like they didn’t get nearly as much as they deserved and the end was a little rushed… but I’m glad it tied up the way it did.

As a writer, I wanted this book to be over as soon as possible, but as a reader I'll miss this story a lot. The plot structure in the series as a whole is repetitive and the plot armor so insane you'd think the main characters are invincible. How many times can Lily take a "shot in the dark" and have it be 100% successful? That happens a lot in this series. I get her powers deal with intuition, but she can't be that good. The allegory of standing up against abuse despite the consequences is shoved into the reader's face a whole lot in this installment, and given the fact this book is meant to be a supernatural romance, the realistic parts of the story most reflective of the real world destroyed the immersion for me. You guys have magic and ghosts, but you're trying to get the news channels (who are probably being paid off by the Gauntss) to "cancel" them instead. Okay, sure.

As I kept reading, I kept checking to see how much there was left and if there was a book five because even 75% through, I felt like we were nowhere near an end. Sex scenes were honestly grating and slowed the plot down a whole lot for me, and there were way too many for my taste. I was tempted to skip them entirely, but I'm a completionist. The parts I enjoyed most had ghostly shenanigans and magic fights, but like I said, the elements that were most realistic felt unnecessary and disjointed from the supernatural premise.

The series also ends with a magic "everyone gets a happily ever after tailored to their character quirks" finale. So many things felt too neatly tied and super rushed. The final fight misses one of the boys and doesn't even have them fighting, just Lily tapping into a power she never really had due to ghost kids. It honestly gave the Soul Eater anime having Maka defeat the main villain without the team, when the team was the core of the story. Thankfully the epilogue ended before the final orgy scene. Also, this really bothered me; Lily has an orgy with the boys in a hotel room that is connected to her sister's by one flimsy door. There is no way Marisol didn't hear all the wild sex. If I were Lily, I'd be more worried about Marisol listening than celebrating Nox coming back.

I think there were a lot of unexplored elements in the story. Imagine if Lily had gotten taken away to another asylum and had to relive her pain until she was inevitably rescued by the boys? Imagine if the boys were stuck in a police station while trying to break her out? I feel like Lily didn't go through the hero's journey the whole way, and it's a little disappointing. It felt like the author was afraid to make her characters hurt on-screen.

This series is pure guilty pleasure for me, and I'm going to miss the gangsters, who were really the reason I kept going. I'm a sucker for overprotective homicidal hot guys. I wouldn't really read this again, though. It was a wild ride, but only worth riding once.

So book 4 doesnt hold back at all! I loved getting answers to things, seeing how the author would pull this all together. I didnt know if she had enough book left with how high-octane things were getting but she did an amazing job giving us a great ending. I think I would give this s 4.5 stars, it was close to a 5 but the narration again held me back from rounding it up.

I really enjoyed how Lily got everyone to rally against the Gaunts, despite how they kept hitting back and destroying their plans. I liked how the gang subplot merged with Lily’s story and how everything worked out in the end. I loved seeing the powers expand and how they could be utilized in other ways. I was so happy once the one in limbo was broken out, I missed him so much haha, definitely hit they weren’t a unit without him. I appreciated seeing Marisol get more airtime despite her age and innocence. The ending made me smile seeing how they all got what they wanted/what they deserved and how their quirks helped figured out what they were going to do in life. I thought the way things fought back and the karmic justice dished out for the Gaunts was done well. It was a long fought war with a final confrontation, not one giant climax with barely any battles, if that makes sense.

In terms of narration again I thought Joe did a fantastic job, Hollie wasn’t my favorite for this one, again I think over the top for Lily and Marisol for some of the scenes. Same comments as the other books, this narration was on par with book 3’s narration so an improvement from book 1 but still I couldnt get it totally 5 stars (5 for Joe, 4 for Hollie). The emotion in this one was huge though. The people who were secretly impacted by the Gaunts as kids, seeing their back story or how they remembered things broke my heart. The narrators did a good job with bringing those struggles and harsh realities to life and making us hate the Gaunts even more than we did.

Overall solid series by this author, not my favorite from her but I will listen to this story again when I need some laughs because the antics were fabulous haha.

Could have been better

First, this series didn’t need to be 4 books. Three would have been enough if they weren’t so repetitive. It was like slightly changed versions of the same old same old. I also figured out what would happen in the end by book 2. I think opportunities were missed with certain aspects of the series like the frogs. She could have done more with them. I felt they jumped the shark in the 3rd book & made the Guantts cartoonish but this one was just ridiculous. The powers the Guantts had were just ridiculous. The controlling people & the memories - I get that- cool. Magicially being able to get a cell phone # for a burner phone that Lily didn’t even buy?! It’s a stretch that maybe I could get. Making a car talk?! Insert eye roll. Fred 2.0 was made to sound like an older car that was without the modern abilities that cars have - no computers & such. How did they get control of a car? A friggin’ car? If it was modern car with all the whistles - I might think it was possible although I wouldn’t have liked it but come on! It was just ridiculous. They talked about the power they had almost like it was from some sort of spiritualism they got into - almost like a voodoo which would have been cool & made it enjoyable but turning them into almost comic book super villains that made cars talk & collapsed building?! Insert eye roll here. I liked the series for the most part - didn’t love it so only 3 stars - this book not much & it shouldn’t even had a 4th book tbh but I liked the characters & their relationship but it is a bit redundant & sadly I don’t want to read the same type story in another series. I love supernatural stories with alpha males but I hate redundancy in stories & when the bad guy becomes almost too hard to defeat but the whole time you are reading it it’s like they should do this & that’s what they do 4 books in.

Man oh man, what a series. It’s almost surprising that it ended. I certainly wouldn’t mind seeing a smaller sequel/sneak peek into the lives of the characters now that all the imminent danger is over.

The voodoo marsh magic in this was executed well, making the villains absolutely terrible and unforgivable people was top tier, and the high stakes in this in saving the lives of hundreds kept me on the edge of my seat. While I will admit there were a few chapters were it dragged on a little with the marks and trying to get as many as possible to switch sides, I understood why those chapters were in place and it helped to convey the story very well.
The overall ending was so heartwarming, everyone discovering and pursuing their passions, the rewards everyone got with the justice served, and the everyone gets a happy ending was so sweet. I loved the unexpected pairings towards the end and that our characters will have a little bit of rest before something else crazy happens. I am most glad that I went on ahead and bought the rest of the series because I would be sitting on pins and needles waiting for book four to complete the set and find out what happens to everyone.

I was most intrigued with the author's choice for the titles, but now that I've read them and looked them over, it all makes sense now. I thoroughly enjoyed this series and can't wait to read something else by Eva Chase.

Well, here we are. We have finally made it to the end of the story. Was I disappointed in how the bad guys got taken down? Eh, kinda. Am I happy that there was a second chance at life? Absolutely. I am satisfied we got some answers and everyone got the revenge on the bad guys. Could that have been done in 3 books? I think so.

Spice level: 🌶️🌶️.75

I am happy that the story is over so that I can move on to another book. This series had potential but I find it more for an older YA crowd. It was lacking a lot of that I am use to for a dark romance RH style book. It was not my favorite, but it wasn't the worse thing I have read this year. I was able to read this one faster than the prior books because it was actually good and things were finally moving along. This was by far my favorite out of all the books. Maybe it was because it was the end but there was so much going on that I felt like continuing. I was less distracted with this book than the priors. With that being said I am not sure I would pick up any other books from the author. Not that I don't like the characters or the plot. It just lacks the spice. Maybe it was just this book, but I can't do another 4 books series right now.

Deathly Delinquency, the final book in the Gang of Ghouls series by Eva Chase, was the perfect t compulsion to an amazing series!

Lily, Jett, Kai, and Ruin are still on a mission to defeat the Guantts and protect Lily’s sister and are currently trying to to figure out what Nolan Guantt did to Nox at the end of the last book that left him in a comatose state. However, with Ruin still recovering from his injuries and Nox out of commission, things are looking tense for our group. Do they have what it takes to defeat the Guantts or will they may need help from the unexpected?

I absolutely loved the connection between Lily and her men and how they’re always fighting for each other no matter what. After so many obstacles being thrown in their way, Lily and her guys deserved nothing more than to have their happy ending and I loved how this story finally came together and I’m beyond happy that they were able to defeat and stop the Gauntts once and for all and that the Skullbreakers were finally able to make a come back.

Overall if you’re a fan of RH books full of drama at every turn, nonstop action and a battle against evil forces then this is the story for you!
