The Shinomiya conglomerate, which has been lurking in the background for a while, comes back into the foreground for the final arc. "Plot" hasn't ever been what I'm looking for in this story, but there are plenty of well-done character moments in this volume before that.

I’m so glad I held out! I thought he’d never ask…

One reviewer’s wish is granted, while the end game quietly approaches and people are just as weird as they always have been. Including a tendency towards eyeball licking and love knowing no gender (or desperation either).

It looks like we’re going hard drama for the ending here, but not before we finally get some movement on the Ino and Yu front, which might not be quite what I was hoping for but is enough that I’d be fine with it stopping there (that said, their dynamic on their date is so good that it would make for a really fun exploration).

Prior to that we get the exploration of Ino’s fight with her bespectacled best friend over the latter’s feelings towards Yu as well. It’s an interesting exploration of how some friendships are formed out of necessity and tend to drift apart as time goes on (my best friend in high school and I are the exact same, as it turns out).

It’s also nice that the scenario is not a love triangle, but more of a judgement on how Ino acted at the time. We get a pretty clear sense that the reason she and Yu aren’t already dating is because of the way she acted, moreso than him.

But what if you were after “classic” Kaguya-sama? Eh, there’s a little bit of that still present. Chika’s big story moment lamenting her single status goes into some broadly silly pseudo-yuri territory before it also turns out that she’d be more than happy to date the two males on the council (another great Ino moment here).

Hayasaka and Shirogane explore some weird fetishes and one of the oldest saws in comedy when Kaguya interrupts their closed door meeting. And Shirogane’s sister desperately attempts to third wheel her sexually active brother when Kaguya stays over.

And it’s fine. There aren’t the gut busting laughs of the earlier volumes, but I don’t hate it. The very bizarre references to Pokémon Go, the ridiculous amounts of product placement for the series, it’s all fairly harmless and fitfully amusing. There’s more than enough goodwill built up that I’m happy just spending time with this bunch until the ending.

I’m not sure exactly what this final arc will entail, but it seems to be aiming higher than usual for stakes and that’s okay and probably a reasonable point to take the series out on. I’ve thoroughly enjoyed reading this, but it’s definitely getting to the point where it should wind down.

3.5 stars - rounding up this time because I got what I wanted and that’s me satisfied, no matter how the story decides to play itself out. Not as good as its best, but still a decent read.

"Final arc of Kaguya-Sama: Love is War"

A deck-clearing book before the plot kicks in. Last minute social reveals need to be taken care of, and Miko & Yu both need putting in position for their romance to resolve.

Osaragi vs. Miko Iino
The most unexpected of the storylines in this volume, and one that works fairly well, even if it doesn't feel entirely necessary. This has the appearance of a storyline that could have been omitted without much pain, if it weren't for Akasaka giving himself ample time to wind-down every single sub-plot and side-character he can feasibly get his hands on: as though he checked the remaining chapter count he had given himself and thought, "Yeah, I've got time for that." Not to dissuade the work he gets done within it, though, which is expectedly thoughtful. Biggest kicker is finally getting to see Osaragi's eyes - a moment that pays off an aesthetic choice I usually find has mixed results, but is deployed tactfully in this case.

Chika vs. Being in a love story when you have no-one to fall in love with
This wasn't really too much of a big-deal, but I really enjoyed the series copping to the fact that Chika has had relatively little to do now that her 'chaos-theory' role has been taken away. Akasaka has never pushed Chika into storylines that she doesn't belong in (i.e. romance), but the result is obviously a character who feels a little at the margins of everyone else's story. Probably the best approach so far, but it's nice to see the writing poke fun at this aspect.

Miyuki vs. Contact Lenses
Big nothing story that feels very at odds with its placement at the end of the series! Was mostly irked by the implication that Miyuki was supposed to get those contacts in on the first try when, like, as someone who has been wearing contacts for thirteen years, I can tell you they do not go in easily at all at first and are very stressful! Behold: my nitpicking finally bursts through to the surface of one of these reviews. Placing my imaginary money now that this gets omitted from the anime.

A+ weirdness points though for Kaguya wanting to lick Miyuki's eyeballs at the end. Maybe the most alarmingly kinky thing this series has done since Miko's binaural bondage session back in the Culture Festival arc. Made me very uncomfortable, as was no doubt intended.

Yu and Miko vs. The Dance
Suprisingly little time spent on this, but that feels about right. Yu and Miko finally invite each other to the dance, thus breaking the stalemate of their social situation. They are still a deeply fraught pairing, but I like that this series is positioning that within the realms of their own individual maturity, rather than trying to excuse their bickering as 'romantic, actually'.

And this is where Goodreads deleted my review for no good reason, so I'm skipping ahead to the conclusion now out of spite if nothing else.

I'm looking forward to the Shinomiya conglomerate stuff more than I imagined, mostly because the final chapter showed that there might be catharsis to be gained out of a scenario I previously thought was a contrived way to introduce adult stakes. Instead, Akasaka shows this may be as much about bring the emotionality of the romance plotline to the family drama, as it is the other way around. It's a gamble: fingers crossed he pulls it off.

Book: Kaguya-Sama: Love is War, Vol. 24
Author: Aka Akasama
Rating: 4 Out 5 Stars

This is near and I can see that the author is building up for what is going to be a great finale. Just whenever you think that the series is going to get stale, something happens and you quickly find yourself wanting to keep going. The ending to this one was just, wow. I have to know what is going to happen next. I am sure that these final volumes are going to be one wild ride.

In this one, the exchange festival with the French school is upon the characters again. The student council finds themselves at the fore front and are hoping not to have a repeat of last year. This school event sets some of our characters on the quest to get the date that they want. I know that this seems like it is repeating the plot once again. At first, it does truly seem that way. However, being this far into the series, I could tell that something was going to go down. While the last couple of volumes have had drama, I could tell that we were building up to something big. I was hoping that we would get to revisit a rather exciting arc and it seems like we are.

The stakes end up becoming very high. I can’t say why though, because of spoilers. However, we see what is this sweet and drama invested high school story take a much more darker role. We have known that things are not what they seem, but in this one, it is front and centre once again. This build up and weaving in only makes what happens and what is going to happen have a much bigger punch that it would have had we just allowed it to happen. What I am getting at is that it makes the stakes so much higher for the readers. It gives you that shock factor and you want to find out what is going to happen next.

I know I say this with every volume that I review of this series. The artwork adds so much to the story. It is simple, but the author does an amazing job at capturing the human aspects in it. Each character is their own person and we see that. We see their reactions and how they handle certain situations. I am just in love with this artwork.

Overall, I did enjoy this volume and can’t wait to see what happens next.

4 stars.

I wasn't expecting to see more about the Shinomiya and Shijo family feud, and the Shinomiya family's potential downfall. I hope that Kaguya won't be separated from the group for too long. It was interesting seeing Shirogane interact with Kaguya's brother after their initial meeting. It was also interesting to realize that the principal of the school has been testing Shirogane to see grow more capable to stand against the Shinomiya family and protect Kaguya. I'm curious to know more about the principal's relationship with the family.

There is more development between Ishigami and Ino, in their own way. I think the two of them are very cute and I'm excited to see how they will officially get together. I also really liked seeing Ino and Osaragi reunited and make up. Something about people who know that they are "best friends for life" and that there is a real chance that after they graduate or move, they won't be very close, but they still chose to be friends... something about that just gets me.

I have four more volumes left of this series and I'm both excited to see how everything wraps up and sad that there won't be any more volumes after this.

A lovey-dovey, wholesome manga volume. Until you read the last chapter, LAST ARC? YOU CAN NOT DO THIS TO ME. ONLY 4 MORE VOLUMES TO DO :(

The first of the volume was a backstory, and how Miko and Osa met, became friends, and it was done nicely. Kaguya visiting Shirogane's place chapter was fun. And then the big dance, which barely took a chapter, wished there was more. And then They SHOW YOU FINAL ARC, LIKE BRO COME ON!

This volume...really propels the story in ways that I just felt were a volume or two away. In the end, this is an interesting change of pace. The end of volume 23 keeps going and pushes along the first half of the book. The second half was a bit of a shock to my system...but the story continues to be very compelling. Aka Akasaka crafts another thoughtful book as we are down to the final handful of volumes.

Well here it is. The drama gets raised to 10 in a single chapter. Things are very happy go lucky at first and it draws the reader into a false sense of security. Then, the moment occurs and your jaw is on the floor in ways you wouldn't believe. From here on out, you'll want to binge the rest of the series.

Yu and Miko almost confessed their love themselves. I didn't quite understand Osaragi's thinking but she stepped aside. So be it. The new saga even has something mafia-like about it. Maki and Mikado care about Kaguya even though they belong to a rival family. Chika is funny when she expresses her love for Kaguya. 8 🌟

This volume was by far the best out of all the others. The cliffhanger at the end made me bite the inside of my cheek a bit too hard. I'm sad to see that we're entering the final arc of the story, but the pace is picking up and I can't wait to see how it goes.
