Karen Lynch is a New York Times and USA Today bestselling author.

She grew up in Newfoundland, Canada - a place rich in colorful people and folklore to which she attributes her love of the supernatural and her vivid imagination. She moved to Charlotte, North Carolina years ago and was immediately charmed by the southern people but she says she will always be a newfie.

Though she loves supernatural fiction, she has a soft spot for Charlotte Brontë and Jane Austin. She is a fan of classic rock, country and classical music but her favorite music is the sound of a good thunderstorm or a howling blizzard. Two of her favorite past times are baking artisan breads for her friends and spending quality time with her two German Shepherds.

So I know I previously decided to basically stop reading YA books, but this is an exception. The first book in this series, Pawn, was the only YA book I truly enjoyed last year. So of course when the sequel came out this week, I jumped on it, and I am so glad I did. I like how fast paced the story feels as Jesse does various bounty hunting jobs (for various Fae creatures, not people). And then there's the overall story arcs of her relationship with Lukas and the mystery behind what exactly happened with her parents that carries over from the previous book. This is still YA-level stuff- the heroine is definitely still on the Mary Sue scale - but I can't help but like this a lot anyways. So if you are not a 'young adult' yourself (like me) but feel in the mood for a light read that moves fast, I definitely recommend picking this series up, even if you are a reluctant YA reader.

I tried so hard to take my time with this because Jesse is a great character to follow around. It was just as good as the first one, the only downside is that book 3 isn’t out yet and I desperately want to read it.

I don't think I've come across a book written by Karen Lynch that I haven't enjoyed reading. I feel like I finished this book in a blink of an eye. Loved it!

Plot Summary:

Knight continued right where Pawn left off lol.

♞ Can we talk about the last page? What was that?? I honestly didn’t see this twist coming, even tho looking back at it, I knew it was foreshadowed a couple of times, but I still didn’t expect that. So well done, the ending really surprised me.

♞ Jesse is still cool. I like her, she’s relatable for her age, a badass, a caring sister. No complains from me. For some reason Jesse gives me Hermione Granger vibes, very book smart, but can hold her own in a fist fight too.

Stewart pursed his lips. “Impressive. I read in your file that you have an above average IQ. With your academic scores, you should be an agent, not a bounty hunter.”
“I should be in college.” I chose not to respond to his implication that agents were smarter than bounty hunters.
“Why aren’t you in college? If you don’t mind me asking.”
“Life happened,” I said matter-of-factly.

♞ Jesse and Lukas’ romance was a bit better. It’s still super super slow burn and the romance is barely plays any role in this series, but I was here for the tension between them after how he betrayed Jesse in the first book. Her backbone and how she didn’t forgive him easily >>>

“He has not been himself since I came home. He won’t talk about it, but he deeply regrets what happened. They all do.”

One thing I have to say about Jesse x Lukas tho is that they really had potential. The forbidden aspect of human x fairie relationship could have been explored more, IF the romance had been more of a focus.

♞ Jesse, Finch, Daddy James and Mommy James. I love them together. 🥺👉👈  They are so cute and their family scenes are the highlight. All they can do is talk about domestic shit and I’d be having a great time.

Finch saw it, too. He whistled and signed to her. Are you sleepy, Mom? “A little,” she admitted, telling me she was more tired than she was letting on. You should take a nap, he told her. Napping always makes me feel better. She reached up to stroke his blue hair. “That’s a good idea, sweetie.”

♞ Jesse & Violet’s friendship is even better in this book. Violet going on missions with Jesse and being bait to catch fairies? Best friends who almost die for each other are the real deal. 😌

♞ Great new characters were added to the current side characters that were already good. Jesse relationship with Faris 🥺 but also her and Foalin and Conlan 😂

Conclusion

This series has been so easy to read so far. It’s nothing extraordinary or new, but it’s fun. Jesse is surrounded by a great support system with many cool characters and it’s just fun to read their interactions.

After the shocking ending of book 1 , Knight picks up right where we left off in Pawn. This installment revolves around an important Fae relic that was taken from their realm and is causing a rift between worlds. Jesse is caught up in the middle of this, along with every other bounty hunter in New York. She is also having to deal with the betrayal that happened in Pawn and learning how to forgive and move forward. Don’t want to say too much because of spoilers !!

HOLY SMOKES THAT CLIFFHANGER 😱 caught me by COMPLETE surprise!! It was fantastic! The plot thickens, and the world building expands. The writing is not earth shattering or deep, it’s just addicting and oh so good. I love Jesse, she is so captivating and just down to earth, making her an excellent FMC. The Fae creature babies are lovable and add such a fun element to the series. Then there is the prince and his guard *Swoon* 💟. The romance is still the slowest of burns, just the way I like it! This one had so many twists and turns and made for an excellent read - I’m about to dive head first into book 3. Would recommend!

Content ⚠️
-few instances of mild language
-kissing
-mild violence
-mention of drug goren (a fae plant used on humans to put them in addictive, trance state)

Karen Lynch kills it again. Another great book in the fae games series and I can’t wait for book 3!!!! These cliffhangers are killing me.

Book two picks up where book one left off. Jesse is still a fae hunter and trying to save money up for college while helping her parents recover. The plot thickens as a sacred fae stone goes missing and Jesse learns that her parent’s lives are in danger (again).

Beautiful world building and great writing are Lynch’s trademarks and I can’t wait to see what she does next. If you ever need an ARC reader - I volunteer. Lol, but really.

Book two is slightly predictable but I don’t even care because I love the characters so much. I’m fully invested and can’t wait to see what happens next. Anyone know when book 3 comes out? Hopefully soon!

Fans of SJM and Holly Black will devour this new and exciting YA fantasy series.

EX-FRICKING-SCOOOZE-ME?
THIS ENDING??
WHAT THE HECK???

Book 3. Now. I need it nowwwwww.
I don’t care if I got a sneak peak at chapter one, I NEED THE REST OF THE DANG BOOK.

Karen..... Karen, Karen. We need to talk right now. I just.... I just want to talk. Okay?

That ending? Never would have seen it coming a million miles away. And I’m talking about the very literal last line that was said. Some other stuff that happened, sure I guessed that would eventually happen.

These characters? Have absolutely sealed their way into my heart forever. I’m talking sealed as in they might be in competition to win over Six of Crows gang. Yeah, I went there.

This world is so magical and I can absolutely see myself getting lost in this world over and over again.

Miss Karen Lynch has truly outdone herself again with this story. Especially that explosive ending, like..... I will NEVER get over it. Seriously, I won’t.

Friends, even if you’re not into urban fantasy that much, I still recommend this trilogy wholeheartedly. (Book 3 has yet to come out, but I’m sure I’ll still be recommending it after I’ve finished it) Especially if you’re in the need for characters that will have you aching for more time with them, that will leave you so gutted after you’ve finished the book. Trust me, you’re going to thank me once you’ve started going on this wild adventure with Jesse and her family lol.

Oh, and I’m gonna need about 50 novellas (minimum) told from the POV of Lukas, STAT. ☺️

AWESOME COVER AWESOME EVERYTHING! All I want in life is this book! Just release it already!!!😭😭😍😍

Edit:
I finished it. Now I need the third book ASAP! I loved everything about this book, and if I loved Karen Lynch before, I love her more now. This book had everything I needed, she is absolutely my favourite author.
Everything about this book is perfect, just like Pawn. I am dying to know how the story progresses after THAT ending!

It’s been a while since I’ve anticipated the release of a book but I’ve been waiting for Knight for months and Lynch did not disappoint.

Jesse our MC is back to kick butts and take names but she’s also just an 18yo girl and I think Lynch struck a good balance between making Jesse strong and capable and also giving her character moments of weakness and growth. Rather than Lynch’s other series where the MC is pretty much just superhuman, Jesse is more complicated.

I’ve lost my taste for most YA these days, but Lynch is one of those rare authors who isn’t just following the cookie cutter storyline. And thank god there’s no toxic relationship in it. I finished Knight in one day and knew I should have savored better it because now we start the long waiting game for “Queen”.

Karen Lynch is an auto buy, stay up all night to read author, and this newest book did not disappoint. I only wish I had a time machine to the future so I could read more.

Highly addictive writing, with competent, kick butt heroines and amazing world building. Highly recommended. (But read book 1 first, obviously.)

Thoroughly enjoyed this story. It has twists and turns one can’t predict and even more importantly it has heart! I’m never a fan of the sudden ending cliffhangers but this one wasn’t as bad as the first in the series so there is that. Can’t wait for the next installment!!

This was a fantastic follow up to Pawn. Jesse is more kick-ass then ever, and I love the direction this series is going in.

I cannot wait for book three (literally, I don't know what I'm going to do with myself until then), and I would highly recommend this series to anyone looking for a fantasy romance that has it all.

This one was a mostly like the first one but with deeper connections. The way things were left off with Lucas gave it enough drama to continue in the second one. The thing I notice with YA because they are typically younger the main conflict is usually not too serious. Sometimes it's drama that gets out of control and a little silly. This series was a betrayal by friends Jessie thought had her back. So i think that is why I still enjoyed it. Jessie is also a little older than most YA series. She's 19 and acts like it. If anything I'd say at times she acts a little older than 19. Her parents being found in this one doesn't really impact the story in my opinion. They are in the story sometimes but I felt like they weren't really there like when they were missing in the first book. I did like the romance between Lucas and Jessie. There was some tension and the whole forbidden relationship. I think it was handled well when Lucas tells Jessie they can't be together and you don't really see him for a bit. I did like the two surprising things that happened at the end. I was expecting Jessie to be turned into a fae. Just not how it happend. I thought it was something to do with the stone in her hair. So that was nice to be shocked like that. I also didn't see the brother thing that lead to her parents being locked up by a drug dealer. It added another layer to the story. There are some real issues and not just petty drama. I'm looking forward to the last book.

this series is an urban ya fantasy about a female bounty hunter. there is slow burn romance, enemies to lovers, enemies to friends, a found family trope, forced proximity, bad ass main character and SO MUCH MORE

WHY ARE THERE SO LITTLE RATINGS AND REVIEWS ON THIS BOOK...WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR? GO READ IT!!

Okay, sorry.

The first book, Pawn, caught me off guard with its excellence and I have been dying to get my hands on book two. Jesse James and her (slightly unwanted) crew of fae royalty and her best friend Violet (who I am loving more and more) return in Knight, and it is nonstop action, bad-assery and just a touch of angst.

Jesse really shines as a heroine with her humor, intelligence, and another quality I often find lacking in so many other heroines in books of this type: maturity.

All of the characters feel their age, but thankfully Karen Lynch knows to spare us from the melodrama and focus on real themes of family, friendship and trust and emotions that come with that.

It keeps the story moving along as Jesse struggles to forgive Lukas for his betrayal and continues keeping her family together and safe.

And Lukas...let's just say I am so excited to see how him and Jesse's relationship develop after THAT ending.

I truly can't wait for the next installment!

Amazing!

Another amazing book by Karen Lynch. I thought things couldn’t get any better after the Relentless series and here I am in book two of the Fae Games wondering what type of super human KL is to be able to write masterpiece after masterpiece.

In any case, Knight pick right up where Pawn left off delving more and more into the games of the Fae. I loved seeing my guys again (I hope Faolin gets a spin off because swoon) and I loved the new adventures and additions this go round. I can’t say enough how addicting and amazing this series is. Can’t wait for the next!
