Given the choice between dealing with a psycho killer, a meddling mother and an all too sexy falcon, this poor doctor does what any sane lion would do--he takes a nice, long nap. Avian Soaring Security has transferred Clarice to the Furry United Coalition so she can help track some escaped psycho patients. As if that weren't bad enough, they partnered her with the very pampered Dr. Manners. Everything about the attractive feline annoys her, except for his flaming hot kisses. But is passion enough to keep a usually sparring species together? Nolan's pedigree isn't the only thing preventing him from falling for his sexy partner. She's bossy, violent, rude and oh so intriguing to this curious cat, but his meddlesome mother will never allow him to get involved with a bird. But before he can decide if love is worth bucking pride tradition, he needs to stay out of the clutches of a demented ex-patient.
Hello, my name is Eve Langlais and I am an International Bestselling author who loves to write hot romance, usually with werewolves, cyborgs or aliens .
I should warn you, I have a twisted imagination and a sarcastic sense of humor something I like to let loose in my writing. While well known for my shifter stories, I am also extremely partial to aliens, the kind who like to abduct humans and then drive them insane...with pleasure. Or do you like something a little darker, more serious? Then check out my cyborgs whose battle with humanity have captivated readers worldwide.
Well this is the fourth book in the Furry United Coalition, and I think that this series has just jumped the shark. What was cute in the first three books is no longer.
See the jokes about how FUC sounds like fuck are juvenile and they’ve been stretched to their breaking point, especially as this time around we have the Avian Soaring Society or ASS. And it’s not cute either. At one point Clarice says “ASS/FUC action” (geddit “ass fuck action”?) and I wanted to throw my laptop around.
But beyond that, the characters are unlikeable, Clarice is a bitch. A stone-cold one. And it takes way too long for her to behave in a way that makes you think she has redeeming qualities and really by the time I found out she was an orphan I just didn’t care. She was incredibly rude and demeaning to everyone from FUC, just because, even though in a liaison-style position you’d think she could keep her mouth shut on that stuff. She ignores things like being told Miranda is a good fighter because, um because! She refuses to believe that Nolan has his job because he’s a good doctor instead assuming he’s just a pretty face, and even when proven wrong takes way too long to change her mind.
Nolan never truly acts, it’s true that he’s a doctor and not a warrior, but he never seems to take any action to disprove what Clarice thinks. Nolan doesn’t ever fight as a human near Clarice, he gets knocked unconscious by two women who want to breed with him (no, really) leaving Clarice to save him. Which means all his protests of how he’s a skilled fighter ring false.
Nolan’s mother just reminds me of the O’Neills and Malone’s from Shelly Laurenston’s Pride series, except the Malones and O’Neills were more interesting that Nolan’s pride. Also the fact that his mother was sooo concerned that he reproduce was creepy as hell. Like almost to an incestuous level.
The actual plot behind the “villain” of the story was a thinly veiled excuse to put Clarice and Nolan in the same house and after the mastermind this version of an antagonist was weak. Where the mastermind was completely the over the top to funny, the patient going crazy and blaming doctors was a) pitiable because of what had happened to him and ultimately anti-climactic. Clarice “deduces” the location of patient’s hideout entirely off-screen and so fast it makes Nolan’s capture seem more ridiculous and unnecessary.
I'm going to have to go with the Goodreads "it was ok" 2 stars for this one.
I don't know if it was just my mood, or whatever, when I was reading 'Lion and the Falcon', but it just wasn't as ... FUN as previous 'FUC' installments. Better luck next time I guess.
Doctor Nolan is facing trouble when patients break lose, endangering humans and the secret of shifters. As a lion, though, partnering up with a bird is not what he expected. Clarice latest assignment is a punishment from her boss, but she´s a responsible falcon, and will do what she´s ordered. Putting up with a pampered lion, though, not so much. Could opposits really attract? PNR Romance, action and smutty fluff with lots of laughter in a great mix. Love this series! =)
Whimsical and sometimes downright snort-worthy, but rarely to be taken seriously, this series offers quick, light and amusing installments when I'm not looking to be challenged and just want something easy. This was laugh out loud funny in parts and tends to wink at the other shifter romances out there.
Lion and the Falcon is book four and makes better sense with the ongoing series arc to be read in order, but the romance and individual mission begin and end in this book.
It's been a while since I picked up a book from this series. I kept promising myself I'd get back to it each time I saw a new release. I think its hilarious how the author pairs not only opposite personalities, but opposite natures. I mean a bear and a bunny? Croc and Fox? Doe and Wolf? Oh yes, it usually gets up to some pretty good antics when alls said and done.
And this is why I'm disappointed that I can't report that this one was a complete win for me. There were several things I liked about Lion and the Falcon, but other things left me meh. I enjoyed the interaction between Nolan and his mom and got a kick out of Clarice and Nolan's mom, but the main plot with the villain, the romance, and even the characters just didn't pull me in like these stories usually do.
Nolan is a lion and his mother is the leader of their pride. Nolan is the only male so they all take it in turn to spoil him and nag at him in their turn. He likes his naps, being a med doctor for the FUC, and wants to pick his own mate, thank you very much. Then in storms Clarice the falcon. She's Nolan's opposite. She's driven, focused, and tends to make big assumptions even when the clues that she might have read things wrong are right before her face. She got on my nerves at times the way she treated people. It was a nice twist to see Clarice as the kick-butt hero who comes to the rescue of Nolan.
The comedy and the sizzling paranormal romance that isn't to be taken seriously made for good light afternoon reading and perfect for the easy-going distraction I needed. It wasn't my favorite of the series, but wasn't bad. I definitely recommend it as a fun, spicy read/series for paranormal romance fans.
Humor, paranormal romance, erotica, adventure, the author blends all these genres with gusto, and adds a "comic books" flavor to the mix, with villains and vigilantes. She's not above the most equivoque puns, so if you only like sophisticated, subtle humor and style, you may move on to more "proper" literature. Otherwise, you should enjoy this wacky - and clever - series as well as her others writings. In this opus, I especially liked the pride of lion shifters, so close to the original version: all those women devoted to one "poor" spoiled male... the most dedicated being his mother, to his despair. Hilarious.
This picks up where the last one left off (different couple, but they need to find the escaped patients- victims who are now monsters from the experiments they were subjected to). Nolan (Dr Manners) still see them as people and treatable. Others in the FUC do not. To help, Clarice is assigned to help them find them. Clarice is a falcon. They lust. They banter. They fall for each other. So many moments that are hilarious. Nice opening for the next story in the FUC universe.
This series. THIS SERIES. It just gets more fun with every book. Seriously, these books are ridiculously entertaining. Between the somewhat vain, mildly spoiled male lion, the hard-edged falcon, and the oodles of irreverent secondary characters (including Viktor, my favorite of the returning characters), you get a little bit of everything mixed in with a healthy dose of humor.
Nolan... what do I have to say about him? Hmm. Well, I appreciate his need to daily naps (seriously). I LOVE that he's so dedicated to keeping his mane in tip top shape. While he could have come across as a spoiled, petulant brat, instead he's more like a big kid who goes with the flow and makes the best of things. All while trying to think up new ways to show his independence. I liked him, okay? I LIKED HIM!
Clarice's sharp edges work nicely with Nolan's roll-with-the-punches attitude. She pushes, he pulls. She feels like she has things to prove and he likes her determination. She tells him she's not interested, he knows the truth. Once Clarice got past his playboy lion image and saw the man he was underneath, she knew she was in deep.
And that's what I like about Eve Langlais books - opposites attract and they do it with humor, style, and a whole mess of inappropriate thoughts (and some naughty times in the bathroom).
06/04/14 reread - Heh. Nolan and his primping. His attention to proper mane care gets me every time. You gotta like a guy who understand how horrifying split ends can be! This entire series reread has been a winner! Onward!
In this book you get to learn more about FUC's doctor, Nolan. He is a lion shifter with a crazy mother and an obsession with hair products. FUC is dealing with aftermath of Mastermind. She did one last experiment and then set them loose. With all of the chaos that causes, extra help is called in. Clarice dislikes Nolan from the moment that she meets him. I enjoyed the banter between the two.
I think I enjoyed this book more because I took some time between books 3 and 4. If you have ever read an Eve book, you know you shouldn't read the last page unless you're ready to jump into the next book.
Up until after 20%, I wanted to drop this one. Nolan came across as a lazy pushover, the mother was really invasive and Clarice was an obnoxious bitch. There was also the overkill use of FUC and ASS. After the first couple of times it just got annoying.
I only started enjoying this one when Miranda gate crashed as usual and birdy met the mother. I liked the fights between them. The breakup and makeup was pretty typical but I liked the family addition. I’m glad I continued and didn’t dnf. Next one sounds interesting.

Nolan has a meddling mother who is wanting him to become the male lion he is intended to be, he should be sharing his bed with the best women out there but Nolan isn't interested. Clarice is a falcon with an attitude and when she is put with Nolan, they find a chemistry that two complete opposites would never expect. First things first, crazy killer on the loose and they need to act quickly before it is too late.
This was fun, I liked that they were so opposite. Nolan you were not quite sure what to expect but he becomes a series favorite. I liked Clarice she was a very different character and enjoyed her banter. Great read.
My review and an extended sample of the audiobook are posted at Hotlistens.com.
Dr. Nolan Manners is a lion and has been caring for the victims of the Mastermind. Most of these victims has not only physical issues from the experiments, but also a lot of psychological trauma from the torture they endured. Most of the patients see all doctors the same and don’t realize that he is just trying to help them and that they have to keep them confined for their own good while they get better. This becomes all too apparent when the patients escape.
Clarice is a falcon and a member of Avian Soaring Security (ASS). Yes, FUC and ASS are working together to try to get this mutated patients back before they expose all shifters to the humans. Clarice was an orphan and never had a family and joined ASS at a young age, so they are the closest thing to a family she’s ever had. She is a little cold-hearted because she hasn’t had much love growing up.
Dr. Manners on the other hand grew up in a overbearing pride of lions with an even more overbearing mother. As the only male, he is quite spoiled. The pride cleans his apartment, delivers food and pretty much spoils him. He is also very cranky if he doesn’t get his naps, lazy cat.
This is another fun addition to the series. It has it’s laugh out loud moments. The interaction between Clarice and Nolan’s mom are great. Not to mention at one point when Nolan’s hair is sheared off, silly lions and their manes. This is a fun story of opposites attract.
Narration Abby Craden did another great job with the narration. I’ve come to depend on her for outstanding narration. I’ve even started picking up other series with her as the narrator. She is great with both male and female voices.
I like to thank Audible Studios for providing me with a copy of this audiobook in exchange for an honest review.
The jokes were bad, the taunting endlessly amusing in its awfulness, but considering the pairing, I'm sure it was intended.
I actually kinda resented the intrusion of the bad guy, even if he did set the scene up for the H to be rescued by the h. And boy was his demise anticlimactic.
The H - a Lion physician whose mother mothers him a good deal more than he's comfortable with - has a patient after him. The patient is deranged, thanks to being experimented on, and blames all doctors.
The h - a falcon who grew up in a falcon orphanage - gets assigned to him. She thinks he's a playboy and is more than a little bemused when she finds out his mother has offered a reward to the first female who can bag him. Alas, this amusing side plot is only touched on. Considering some psycho is after him, the complication of having to fend off feline females trying to waylay him for other reasons could have made the book more...entertaining. Instead, most of it was the first few days - until he gets in her pants - then the next several weeks are glossed over. And there lies the rub - somehow I doubt they just stopped because she shot at one.
This one was fun and humorous as well but not as much as the previous books.
- In this book the heroine comes from another country and treats all the previous characters condescendingly which annoys most.
- But the one who receives the brunt of her comments is the hero, and for his benefit his mothers XD
- The main hero is a lion and u can guess the many comments he gets about his hair and such stuff XD
- I liked when the hero got a chance to show off in a good way to the heroine XD it will make her think again about judging a person based on looks alone
- I especially liked his family's reaction to the heroine first the aunt was funny and then mom especially the mom XD
I love Eve and and especially the FUC series. The hilarity of the acronyms alone inf Lion and the Falcon were enough to crack you up. ASS and FUC... well you can just imagine! I loved Nolan. He was so cute! Sweet, but protective and he tries so hard to do the right thing by Clarice. I had a problem with Clarice's name, stupid I know but I kept thinking of the Silence of the Lambs, lol. I did like Clarice's strength and loved watching her stand up to Nolan's domineering mother. Warning: Contains a lazy, sexy lion shifter, prone to naps without notice and a feisty Falcon with a chip on her shoulder.
The fourth entry in the FUC series brings together Lion shifter and doctor Nolan and the Falcon Shifter Clarice, who is on loan at FUC from ASS. As Nolan needs protection from the rampaging experiments from the mastermind, Clarice needs to have his back as they're threatened by a mysterious enemy.
Pro's: + I really liked Clarice's character growth, as she came from a bad situation/ past and she really found her place at the FUC and with Nolan. She had to admit to herself what she really wanted and the process of that was really nice. Also, she has one hell of a bitch streak ( and I liked it). + The whole FUC series has been quite comedic and lighthearted so far and I think that works really well if you're also reading other series of Eve, as those are often quite dark and a bit more serious.
Con's: - Nolan is quite a spoiled mama's boy and I found that quite unattractive. In the beginning of the story he is painted as a man-boy who is incapable of doing anything besides his job himself and even though he redeems himself a bit in the end, I wish he was a bit more manly.
The FUC series is still going strong and I cannot wait until the next entry. I was a bit afraid that after the passing of the mastermind the storyline would fall flat, but that didn't happen at all and I'm really happy with that. The romance between Nolan and Clarice was nothing really special, but quite cute. It was a short, fun read and I can really recommend this if you want a light read between heavier stories or something.
Ok, so, let's be real, I definitely started reading these because the series title is such click-bait, right? I was like "oh my god, this series is gonna be so trashy and ridiculous, they're putting together animal shifters that don't make any sense, I'm gonna read it."
This book was probably the best-written romance I've read in my life.
I counted no less than 3 Shakespeare references. There at least one pun every other page. The chemistry between the two characters is absolutely perfect. The wit and humor is astounding. I'm actually mad that this series is so ridiculous and click-bait-y and "trashy," because this book is the farthest thing from trash. Is it high-brow, serious Literature? No. But it's quality, I tell you. Quality.
In fact, I'd argue that if you've never read a shifter romance but you want to know what it's about, start with this one. It's absolute gold. I was wheezing from how funny it was.
What to do when escaped, traumatized and now violent patients threaten the city and outing the shifter secret? Recruit help from ASS of course. That help comes in the form of no-nonsense officer Clarice, a falcon shifter. She is unwillingly assigned to FUC in order to capture or kill the escaped survivors of Mastermind, but it is the “kill” order that raises the hackles of one furry feline doctor, Nolan. Nolan insists they can be brought back in safely, but when one amphibian with an eye on revenge stalks and endangers Clarice Nolan has a change of heart. I loved the back and forth banter between Clarice and Nolan, and especially loved Nolan’s mom and the lengths she would go to to keep her only son safe and marriage-ready, LOL. Will Nolan and Clarice be able to capture their escapee and figure their own true desires out, or will Mastermind win posthumously? Definitely has the Eve Langlais flair and I highly recommend it!
This was definitely indicative of Eve Langlais's humor. I really enjoyed the progression of the story. I felt bad for the patient's though. It wasn't their fault that they got experimented on by the "mastermind".
I loved Cherise character. She was extremely kick ass. I was glad that she was able to let her guard down just a little so she didn't miss out on Nolan (eventually, she did anyway).
I'm really enjoying getting to know each species and their little traits, it's fun. Liked delving into the world of the big cats this time. Nolan's mother was hilarious!
I must admit that I find the juvenile jokes hilarious....especially since in this book we get the acronyms for Furry United Coalition (FUC) and Avian Soaring Society (ASS). Those two in combination is a never ending batch of laughs. Nolan's family and Clarise's banter back and forth is also really great. I didn't like Clarise much in the beginning, but Nolan seemed to get her almost immediately. I'm looking forward to more FUC.
In general for all of Langlais' books: These are light and fluffy, funny and sexy, and easy, quick reads. Great poolside or beach reads, or when your brain is overwhelmed by RL. My only peeve (and this may just be because I binged her books) is that she constantly uses "portal" when she means "door" or "doorway". The books could use one last round of editing, but the errors are minor and don't take away from the enjoyment of reading them.
Not my favorite of the series, but it still had its moments. The relationship felt very forced however and the heroine didnt have much of personality outside of being cold. It almost felt like the whole relationship was just trying to be the reverse of the previous book's relationship. Also it seemed like the hero was a walking contradiction alternating between being spoiled and lazy and being dedicated and determined. Cant wait to read the next book
You forget how much fun it is to read about male lion shifters until you read about one! The mane, the napping, the entitlement, Nolan had it all. He also worked hard, cared about others, and has self-awareness, to a point. Clarice of course had little use for Nolan, except she did because her lady parts wanted him desperately. Neither of these two were great at expressing the mushy feelings, and it was a lot of fun watching them connect with each other and learn how. The added bonus is the ladies of Nolan’s pride, and his overbearing mama lion!
I truly enjoyed this story about Nolan and Clarice! As different as they were, they were definitely meant to be together! Nolan leads the life of a carefree playboy while Clarice really is a tough cookie (at least on the surface)! My favorite part is the surprise ending! I highly recommend this book!
Now this one was funny. All the little jokes and innuendos about lions just never got old. I enjoyed the hard edge ‘I am woman, I am strong’ thing. I’ve loved the attitude of the falcon. I’ll say it, she was a bitch...yeah! Kudos on the mother and the pride in general. They were laughable in the right way. Their nemesis was entertaining and the chase was fun.
The main draw to this series continues to be the two characters each novel focuses on. This pairing in the Furry United Coalition featues an interesting combination between a loner falcon and a spoiled lions. While there pairing is enjoyabe, its not the best of the series, and frankly the book overall wraps up a bit too quickly. Stilll a very entertaining series overall.
3.5 stars Cute and silly in typical Eve Langlais style.
Nolan the lion shifter doctor is quite arrogant and spoiled. Never heard of a doctor being able to take so many cat-naps...how did he ever get through medical school?
Clarice is a tough bird used to being on her own. It's hard for her to trust that Nolan will stick around.
(This review will be posted at each of the five books of the series, so it is there to catch your attention and hopefully encourage you to read this fun little series)
OK, it’s winter. Yep. When you can’t get away to the mountains, cabin fever and darkness can be a real downer… So what do I do? Take a break from more serious reading and snuggle into HEA paranormal romance, Ghirardelli Dark Chocolate brownies, hot tea, a pile of quilts and pillows, and classical music.
Hum… what HEA this year? Well, you can’t go wrong with Eve Langlais. And her Furry United Coalition (or, yes, FUC) was my choice for spoiling myself. Wry, snarky, and ironic, Eve’s dry wit is very much on display, dragging out barks of laughter and sly giggles at unexpected moments. The perfect ‘just relax and enjoy’ reads, a set of five interlinked stories of love and unusual matings meant to be just what they are – fun and relaxing.
12356635The Furry United Coalition is a paranormal policing division, set to protect humans from the knowledge of, and attacks from, the hidden paranormal world. And FUC has a weird collection of paranormals of its own. The first unusual couple? In Bunny and the Bear Miranda is bubbly, bouncy, chatty, soft-and-cuddly bunny who makes the Energizer Bunny look like a dozy sloth. What is frowny, sleepy, grouchy attorney bear Chase to do? Especially when Miranda is kidnapped by a nasty mad scientist determined to design his own monster army. And breaking out requires bringing her saber-tooth bunny side to the fore – and a saber-tooth bunny suddenly becomes the ‘must have accessory’ for the Mastermind.
Book Two is Swan and the Bear. Chase’s brother, Mason, is a true ladies man and honeybun lover, a big playful teddy bear. But when he is assigned to protect a curvy swan, his whole world is turned upside down. Rich chocolate skin and a brilliant mind makes Jessie a rather unusual protectee for a sexy bear – especially when she turns down his sexy approach flat. Huh? Is the hot bear losing his pretty-boy mojo? Mastermind is determined to capture the brilliant computer specialist swan and Mason is just as determined to protect her. Just a warning, this second edition is filled with sudden bursts of uncontrollable laughter and snickering snorts . . .
Croc and the Fox finds FUC raiding one of Mastermind’s hidden laboratories. And when cold-blooded Viktor enters the underground bunker filled with experimental subjects, subjects begging for the release of death, he finds Project X081 – and this weapons collecting warrior is thrown for a loop as he is stuck with the care of Project X081, who has never even seen the sky – that huge, blue vastness which sends her scurrying and climbing him like a tree, clinging like a limpet, and turning his whole calm, isolated life upside down. This one is my favorite of the five – two broken people finding one another – and finding that life is more than they ever expected.
ASS gets involved in the storyline this time. Yep, FUC and ASS, or Avian Soaring Society. I told you she has a wry sense of humour. Lion and the Falcon is laugh worthy, as the massively spoiled Dr. Manners, chief physician for FUC and the only son of an obsessive lioness mother finds himself partnered with a tall, sleek and violent falcon shifter with tons of attitude and no patience for a self-centered, self-indulgent male lion who is a pain in her backside – especially when she is ordered to protect his spoiled backside from escaped victims of Mastermind who are determined to take down Dr. Manners, and any other doctor who comes their way. Well, doctors did turn them into the monsters they are now. . .
Nolan’s mother Brenda is a hoot, and Clarice the falcon’s sharp edged tongue and tough attitude is a pleasure – though the privileged and hair-obsessed lion is a bit too much for me – overall, the women really make this one.
Sooo sad, as The Doe and the Wolf is the last in the in the series (though I can’t help but hope she writes another…) Everett lost his job with FUC for his ‘all about me’ attitude which placed others in danger. Now the owner of The Lone Wolf Agency along with his sloth friend Tom, is asked by FUC to help track down and destroy the rest of the escaped prisoners from Masterminds vicious experiments. Injured and thrown over a cliff by a sadistic 8-foot-tall gecko, Everett is saved by one of the very victims he is determined to track down and kill for the bounty. Dawn drags him from the river and ties him to a bed in order to treat his wounds, and not be eaten by the big bad wolf. Escaping, to trek miles through the woods to the closest small town before disappearing into the woods once more, she is captured by said big, bad wolf . . . who finds himself drawn to the doe who seems so very normal to be the ferocious monster she is supposed to be. As they work together to capture the ‘not-so-normal’ gecko, Everett and Dawn suffer the wrath of Tom the sloth while Dawn desperately tries to hide the ‘monster’ that her doe has become. A chase through the forest, a sabre-tooth bunny giving birth in the woods, and a dramatic reveal of Dawn’s doe makes this edition both exciting and funny – and broke my heart when it ended, because it was the last one. Sigh. Weep.
Each book so far has been amazing, and this didn't disappoint. Just like the others it made me laugh and wonder how they would catch the bad guy. It also had guessing how long before they realized they belong together.
Not enjoying this one as much as I did the rest of the series or any of Eve Langlais' other books. Not entirely sure why. I couldn't really connect with either the good doctor or the birdie so perhaps it derived fro there, but neither of them were likeable characters in any way.
