Työkirja, luettu etäpäivänä.

Mauno ja Muka Monsterit: Töräys pimeässä on helppolukuisen kirjasarjan ensimmäinen osa. Luin viime vuonna toisen osan ja pidin siitä paljon. Tässä osassa kerroaan, miten Mauno löytää Muka-Monsterit ja millaisiin kommelluksiin hän joutuu - ja mistä häntä syytetään! - kun hän yrittää pitää näiden pienten monstereiden olemassaolon muilta salassa.

Tässä on paljon kuvia, vähemmän tekstiä. Paljon huumoria, aika paljon pieruhuumoria tässä ekassa, mutta lapsillehan se uppoaa. Voisin kuvitella, että sopii öisin pimeää pelkäävillekin lapsille, sillä tässä kirjan alussa Mauno pelkää nukahtaa hirviöiden takia, mutta sitten hirviöt onkin naurettavan pieniä ja ihan söpöjäkin Muka-Monstereita, joiden kanssa voi huoletta nukkua yönsä.

Gelezen in het Nederlands. Haha, wat een heerlijk boek was dit zeg! Zoveel toffe illustraties, zoveel humor en plezier. Dit boek is precies wat ik nu even kon gebruiken, gewoon iets mafs. Wat als jij een nieuwe ladekast krijgt... en er stinkende (nou ja, eentje stinkt) monsters in zitten? Wat als je altijd heel bang bent? Lukt het je om vrienden te worden met de monsters? Ik vond de monsters erg leuke karakters, ook de illustrator heeft ze leuk vormgegeven.
En die ouders mogen wel iets meer luisteren naar hun kind.

Review volgt. Ik wil nog iets meer schrijven maar het is al na 11 uur 's avonds en ik ben echt gaar. XD

Picked this up for my nephew and thought I'd give it a test run first. Rather amusing read and bound to apply to a wide range of children with a mini monster for everyone. There is a good mix of writing with speech bubbles, different font sizes, and story aspects so it'll cover a range of early reading abilities and provides opportunities for reading improvement. The illustrations are brightly coloured and will certainly appeal to kids of all ages.

Cute! Short enough to read in one sitting with enough interest but also long enough to take it chapter by chapter over a meal as well. Lots of pictures which keeps my 4 year old interested. Plus it is silly!

I randomly had this book included in my Thriftbooks order, and since it was extra and not an accidental replacement of the book I ordered I read it. The book is presented as a kind of chapter book with some elements of graphic novels as well. This means that there are tons of illustrations in addition to narration paragraphs and dialog bubbles. The story takes place around bedtime as Billy is trying to go to sleep but only thinking about monsters. This is ironic because there are monsters in Billy’s bedroom, and they’re about to make an appearance. Luckily for Billy, they are small, not dangerous, and cute. So you can more or less guess the story from here. Main takeaway is that there is a fart monster.

One thing that stands out to me here is that the book is also an advertisement for other books in the series, which is no problem, but that also this means selling on the specific merits of the book itself as a reading tool. I get it, but I also kind of hate it. As an English teacher, I already hate reading materials that are designed purely as reading materials, and it’s not to say that this book is only that, but that’s part of how it presents itself. I would feel a little cheated as a kid knowing that.

I’ve read this book so many times with my 4 year old daughter that we both have many of the pages memorized and she can read whole chapters to me word for word. It’s funny, gross, would appeal to the book enthusiast older 3 year old well through ages 6-7 (at least).
It’s fully illustrated so I great intro to chapter books. We have all 6 currently in the series (and are anxiously awaiting the 2 new additions to the series).

Mauno pelkää nukahtaa iltaisin koska hän on varma, että hänen huoneessaan asustaa hirviöitä. Onhan hän nähnyt niiden jättämiä jälkiä, ja haistanut mitä kamalimman hajun! Hirviöt osoittautuvat kuitenkin tyystin toisenlaisiksi, mitä Mauno oli kuvitellut.

Sopivasti pieruhuumorilla maustettu tarina etenkin heille, jotka pelkäävät sängyn alla piileskeleviä mörköjä. Värikäs kuvitus ja hauskat otukset piristävät mukavasti tekstiä.

Kirja on tarkoitettu vasta lukemaan oppineille alakoululaisille, mutta meidän alle 4-vuotias tykkäsi kirjasta ihan hirveästi ja sitä on luettu monet kerrat joko kahdessa osassa tai koko kirja kerralla. Vaikka monsterit ovat vähän jännittäviä, eivät kuitenkaan liian pelottavia pienellekään lukijalle. Tekstiä ei sivuilla ole juuri enempää kuin tavallisessa lasten kuvakirjassa.

Read this to my son and we found it rather dull and I don't understand the parts with the one monster that farts... Why do so many kids books have fart and "bathroom humor" ? It's not something I understand and don't think it is a good idea to teach kids that farting and poop are funny.

So cute!! Great for my new 2nd grader. And my preschooler “reads” them a ton too after big brother reads them aloud to us. I LOVE that it incorporates a lot of styles of reading, especially including some comic strip style. And the illustrations are perfect for this age group. Super fun books!!

We love Billy and the Mini Monsters. Im dropping a star though as my daughter felt it finished very abruptly. The story itself was funny and entertaining. An enjoyable read for ages 5 to 7.
