Since this Jolt-award winning classic was last updated in 2008 (shortly after Java 6 was released), Java has changed dramatically. The principal enhancement in Java 8 was the addition of functional programming constructs to Java's object-oriented roots. Java 7, 8, and 9 also introduced language features, such as the try-with-resources statement, the diamond operator for generic types, default and static methods in interfaces, the @SafeVarargs annotation, and modules. New library features include pervasive use of functional interfaces and streams, the java.time package for manipulating dates and times, and numerous minor enhancements such as convenience factory methods for collections.

Тъкмо си мислиш "Йей, вече разбирам Java!", a после прочиташ тази книга и осъзнаваш "Аха, ясно... Нищо не знам все още...". 😂 Ако си начинаещ, мисля, че тази книга не е много подходяща за теб, но ако си мислиш, че вече си "наясно с нещата" и имаш някакъв практически опит с езика, то тази книга според мен ще ти помогне да стигнеш следващото ниво.

Тази книга е много интересна, защото ти дава поглед върху някои от тънкостите на Java, в които лесно можеш да допуснеш грешка, която има потенциал да ти създаде доста главоболия по-нататък. Много от функционалностите на Java, които ползваш, най-вероятно ги ползваш просто по навик, без да ги разбираш добре (просто си прочел някъде онлайн, че нещо се прави по определен начин, а след това си започнал да го прилагаш на сляпо, без и ти да знаеш защо точно се прави така).

Тази книга ти обяснява ЗАЩО нещо се счита за добра или лоша практика, а в същото време ти показва алтернативни по-добри подходи, за които най-вероятно не би се сетил сам. Например нещо от рода на "Недей просто да имплементираш Serializable, колкото да го има там! Ако го направиш, може да ти се случат X и Y лоши неща! Ако ще го правиш, направи го по Z начин и имай предвид какви ще са последиците от това..." Най-вероятно (като мен) даже не си се замислял за това. 😅

P.S: Прочетете последното (мисля 3-то) издание на книгата, защото информацията в него е най-актуална. 😎
