Everything in this book was far too convenient. Everyone was in the right place at the right time, and everyone just happened to end up in the same place in the end so that all the stories could wrap up nicely, even though it didn't make sense for some of those people to be there. I've read all of the Dresden Files (which, though there are issues I have with the series, I still enjoy - I'll call it a guilty pleasure), and I have a couple of friends who have recommended this series as well. Pretty good! Great new world built by Butcher. Good action, ok charecters, and a decent plot that sets up the next book with some great political strife....which I love. I would have rated this book higher if it wasnt for the author having people in the book jump to stupid, ilogical conclusions just for the sake of creating drama. But, I was able to get over it and enjoy the book over all.

Just a thoroughly delightful read! As promised, lots of twists & turns -- but most impressively, to me, was the writer's ability to move the action along at a rapid pace and not have it feel overwhelming, just compelling. I have read 3 of Jim Butcher's Dresden Files' books & was expecting something of a similar vein, but this was really quite different, but equally enjoyable. I was planning on reading a Sharon Shinn book after this, but since the sequel to Furies of Calderon is sitting at my han ...more
