#1 New York Times bestselling author and illustrator, Tony DiTerlizzi, has been creating children’s books for twenty years. From fanciful picture books like The Broken Ornament and The Spider & The Fly (a Caldecott Honor book), to chapter books like Kenny and The Dragon and The Search for WondLa, DiTerlizzi imbues his stories with rich imagination. With Holly Black, he created the middle-grade series, The Spiderwick Chronicles, which has sold over 20 million copies, been adapted into a feature film, and translated in over thirty countries. He teamed up with Lucasfilm to retell the original Star Wars trilogy as a picture book and his collaboration with celebrated author Mo Willems created the bestseller The Story of Diva & Flea. The Norman Rockwell museum’s retrospective, “Never Abandon Imagination”, featured artwork from the beginning of DiTerlizzi’s career as a contributing artist for Dungeons & Dragons and broke attendance records. He has been featured in Time magazine, USA Today, CNN, PBS, NPR the BBC and The Today Show.

Ahh.. the advantage of having siblings in school. They haul books from their library then I get to read each one they pick.

This book's basically just a collection of stories from children who had encountered magical creatures before; and there's this note/analysis attached to each one of 'em (technically, it's about the creature's nature in a particular encounter). Also, this book contains some activities which you might find really nice. Too bad this was from my brother's library. Being a book-lover, I didn't act as a jerk and scribble demon faces on every page so yeah.

1. I got my copy of this book from the library so I didn't get the fun of getting to write and draw in it, but I loved the stories.
2. A lot of children have the Sight apparently.
3. I would seriously love this book when I was a kid.
4. Definitely buy this book if you love the series.

This was the first book in the Spiderwick world I was disappointed with. I bought the eBook and cannot figure out why the publisher released an e-version of this book. It is intended to be a workbook. There are 14 chapters in this book, alphabetically named after the creatures encountered.

The sections are:
Brownies
Dragons
Dwarves
Elves
Goblins
Griffins
Hobgoblins
Knockers
Ogres
Phookas
Sprites
Stray Sod
Trolls
Unicorns

Each section has a story written by someone who has had an encounter with the Fantastical, followed by a short commentary by Holly Black and Tony DiTerlizzi. Then there are numerous activities to be completed. These includes writing your own encounters, making lists, drawing pictures and much much more. This workbook will be great fun for a child and provide entertainment again and again as they go back and add more notes to each section. But the eBook cannot even be printed out to allow these activities to be completed. If you're going to buy this book make sure you get the physical book. It will be entertaining and fun for children of all ages.

As a kid I have always wanted this journal type of book. As an adult I still don't own it, but I like this journal and it would have been so awesome to have this as a child. It's pretty, hardcover, and has space to write whatever you want! You can use it for observations, vacation, adventures, your thoughts, whatever your heart desires with space to draw any creatures you have seen. How cool!

Really enjoyed it, read all five books in about a week! Much better than the film.
Tells the story of the hidden world of goblins, fairies and brownies and the man whom wrote a book about them a hundred years ago. Then three three children stumble upon this world.
Recommend it, but really easy read.

Read this 2 years ago so all I remember about this book is that it's just a compression of the actual notebook from the book series. It was an interesting read, I think there were blank pages to put your drawing and observation but I could be mistaken.

One of the stories in this book is of a 'monster in your bedroom' nature, and it totally freaked me, an adult, out.

this book is fun. I haven't written in it because I don't want to ruin it, but it does have a few short stories and other Spiderwick type information in it.
fun idea.

While I am full grown adult I just couldn't resist purchasing this. I think I in fact had far more fun with it than the children did.
