Okay, this was such a great book. Sweet but not cheesy or immature... mature but not too adult... the perfect cross-over book. I'll definitely be looking for more by this very talented author!

Sometimes you don't really think if a book is good or not, it just works for you. You simply start reading it and the action feels so natural that you don't stop until you reach the last page. This is one of those stories.

Ever since I read Tammara Weber's Between the Lines series I have been obsessively counting down the days, the hours, the minutes, the teeny tiny nanoseconds until her next release. I was beyond intrigued with her writing style in Between the Lines and even though I was a little indifferent (the story just wasn't for me, but her writing was absolutely phenom--wait for it...enal) I wanted more, I craved more and reading between the lines of her first few books (kick ass pun, I know) I new greatness was on the way; I needed more. More! More! MORE!! I knew her future books would be completely smothered in greatness sauce and sweet baby Jesus that future is here. That future is NOW!

Easy starts off with a colossal mind shattering BANG! There's no verbose introduction or ad nauseam plot setup; no typical "it took me a few chapters to get into the story" reaction. The story will get into YOU! The first few pages will grab you and never let go.

After the intro heard round the world, the plot took a turn that came extremely close to ruining my book buzz. I assumed I had the plot all figured out; I assumed the "thing" I figured out would be annoyingly dragged out throughout the entire book. I assumed! I assumed! I ASSUMED!! Well, you know what they say about people who assume...I'M AN ASS!!!! Tammara Webber makes you think you know what's going on until you don't! I've never been more relieved to be wrong in my entire life!

Yes there's language, yes there's drinking, and OH MY GOODNESS yes there are sexual situations. You spend a great amount of time (sweet agonizing time) waiting for Lucas and Jacqueline to um..."connect". However, the wait is made bearable by a lot of "foreconnecting"! It's steamy Divinyls hot! It'll drive you absolutely wild! My one and only complaint was after all the toe curling "foreconnecting", the actual "connecting" was a little disappointing. The climax was a little anticlimactic (*giggle* and puntastic).

Greatness knocked and Tammara Webber answered and the answer was Easy. Easy to fall in love with the characters, easy to get hooked on an amazing plot, easy to agonize over the fact there was only 10 pages left, and easy to be left wanting more! I really loved this story but not for the reasons I expected. What I expected was an angst filled, all consuming, volatile romance between the hero and heroine. What the author gave me, however, was far from that and much better.

Jacqueline Wallace followed her boyfriend of three years, Kennedy, to college and then unexpectedly, he dumps her to sow his wild oats. He connects her with the class tutor, Landon, and they begin emailing back and forth working on retrieving her grade. She starts to connect with Landon through the emails and wonders what he looks like. In class, Jacqueline notices another boy, Lucas. When he's not sketching in a notebook, she catches him staring at her, many times. Jacqueline never noticed Lucas before, but now he seems to be popping up everywhere. Now that she's not with Kennedy anymore, she can't help but see that he's gorgeous: clear gray-blue eyes, lean and muscled body, and bad-boy tattoos snaking up arms. This guy is beyond creepy, and his type is the reason I carry pepper spray in my purse!

This story starts off with a bang! My heart was literally pounding in my chest from the opening scene! I won't say what happens but it was some start. As I said in the opening I could not put this book down. I read it in one day! I just loved everything about it. I liked that Jacqueline doesn't let the events in her life drag her down. She grieves over her break-up but then dusts herself off, and gets back to living. Her friend and roommate, Erin was the best sort of girlfriend. It's the type of relationship all us girls yearn to have, someone who is loyal and helps to empower us against what trips us up in life. It was a nice change from the usual "mean-girl" plot line in so many books now. Now let's get to Lucas, he is easily the knight-in-shining-armor of this book. He's so respectful, protective and just plain HOT! Some of the scenes in this book had me wiping off the steam gathering on my glasses many times! Let me tease you with a snippet:

"So I don't want to you to feel pressured. Or overpowered. But I do, absolutely, want to kiss you right now. Badly." He trailed his finger over my jaw and down my throat, and then into his lap. I stared at him. Finally comprehending that he was waiting for a response, I said, "Okay." ----As he leaned over me, I felt a heightened awareness of every part of my body that touched a part of his--the edge of his hip pressed to mine, his chest sliding against mine, his fingers tracing from wrists to forearms and then framing my face. He held me in place, lips near my ear. When he kissed the sensitive spot, my breath shuddered. "You're so beautiful," he whispered, moving his mouth to mine.

Oh.My.Goodness!!! That's just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to the steam written in this story! There is so much more to this story than the romance but I don't want to give anything away. Stay away from spoilery reviews if you can. This story is best discovered by reading it yourself.

I highly recommend this story, just writing this review makes me want to read it all over again! I'm definitely reading anything else written by Tammara Webber.

Easy is anything but an easy book to read. By the end of the first chapter, I felt an emotional-connection and didn't want to put it down. Webber tackles the all-too-real subject of campus rape/acquaintance rape. And while this subject is a driving force beneath the plot, it isn't the entire story. I love how Webber takes Jacqueline's experience and masterfully weaves it into Lucas's past....more

This book totally blew me away. It deals with the very difficult issue of sexual assault, the lack of support victims receive, and the way victims are often made to feel at fault.
It's a book about the resilience of one young woman and a very small group of friends who support her.

I can't fault this book. It's well written and well researched with characters you like from the very beginning (and some characters you want to beat six ways to Sunday).

The only positive thing I can say about this novel is that it emphasizes the message that rape is never a woman's fault, which is an important message. But having a good message does not excuse awful characterization, unrealistic plot points, or poor writing.

Warning: Incredibly long review that attempts to justify my outlier rating. Brutal honesty ahead.

My chief complaint about this novel is Jacqueline's unrealistic reaction to being sexually assaulted. In short, it doesn't seem to have the kind of impact on her thoughts or behaviors that I would expect. She shows no fear or hypervigilance except when she's face-to-face with her attacker, she doesn't alter her behavior, and she's ready to jump into bed with a guy only two weeks after the assault. Instead of thinking about the assault or struggling to forget about it, she obsesses over her crush, Lucas, and her breakup with her ex boyfriend. Even her emotions directly after the assault don't ring true. She worries that it was her fault but there are no accompanied feelings of misplaced shame or strong feelings of regret about her behavior.

When Buck sexually assaults her a second time she doesn't even think about reporting him or show any more concern for her safety (with the exception of avoiding the stairwell where the second attack took place). She even willingly goes to a party where she knows Buck is going to be, and when he threatens her, she doesn't leave the party. Instead, she proceeds to drink more, putting herself in a more vulnerable position. At one point she admits that the reason she didn't report him in the first place was that she thought that Lucas beating Buck up would prevent him from assaulting anyone again, a ludicrous assumption made even more ludicrous when he continues to threaten her and tries to rape her a second time. Her thoughts are so unbelievably irrational that I couldn't connect with her character.

The other characters also lacked any sort of dimensionality. Lucas, the love interest, is your classic brooding bad boy with a tragic past. He even has tattoos, a lip piercing, and drives a motorcycle. Beautiful women throw themselves at him constantly and crowds part for him like the red sea. Women can't help pointing out how hot he is whenever his name is mentioned, even at inappropriate moments like during a discussion about rape. Following the fold of YA novels, he has never had a serious relationship before, though he's hooked up with quite a few women, and he becomes obsessed with Jacqueline before even having a single conversation with her. He even fantasizes about "taking her away" (his words, not mine) from her ex boyfriend and creepily stares at her in class all without talking to her once.

The side characters don't fair much better. Jacqueline's roommate, Erin, never steps out of the supportive best friend role. Her chief purpose in the novel is to be Jacqueline's friend and encourage her relationship with Lucas. Aside from one other girl, the rest of the females are jealous, catty shrews who glare and smirk at Jacqueline every time Lucas talks to her. Buck is too stupid to live and unbelievable in his actions and motivation. He was downright cartoonish in his villainy. And then there's Benji, the token gay friend whose friendship with Jacqueline springs out of nowhere. They have two lighthearted conversations and suddenly he's confessing that he's coming out to his father over Thanksgiving weekend.

The setting also seemed unrealistic, partly because Webber gives almost no locational information. The university is never given a name, and the city and state where the university is located are never mentioned, only that it's in the South, which is a very large and diverse region. The reader is also given little information about the characteristics of the university. There's no indication of the university's prestige, the size of the university, the size of the town where the university is located, the size of the campus, or the make up of the student body in terms of diversity, socioeconomic factors, etc. It's these sorts of details that make a setting come alive and they were sorely missed.

I also couldn't identify with Jacqueline's college experience because her university didn't sound anything like any I've ever heard of. She goes to a university where engineering majors are required to take economics, where professors assign seating in large lectures with two hundred students, where professors accept bad break ups as an excuse for missing a midterm, where a single professor can pull strings to a get a failing student into the school, where music majors take algebra. There may be colleges where any of these things happen, but they're not typical, and taken together it was just hard to believe Jacqueline's college was real. There was a distinctly high school vibe about the school experience.

Pacing was also an issue. There were far too many unnecessary scenes, which did nothing to move the plot forward and the plot felt very disjointed. Plot points were brought up or alluded to but never fully explored, explained, or resolved begging the question of why they were included in the first place. Different plot points would be dropped at awkward times and forgotten about instead of being present throughout.

Lastly, the writing was very unpolished. There were a lot of awkwardly worded sentences, and a few punctuational and grammatical errors. I also thought many of the chapter breaks were oddly placed and some of the scene transitions were hard to follow, particularly those leading up to the emails. Also distracting was Webber's tendency to recap action that happened during a time jump between scenes. While the dialogue wasn't terrible, there were quite a few instance where the characters would over explain things. At one point, a character speaks for four Nook pages straight with only a one sentence break. The novel was definitely in need of professional editing.

I would not recommend this book to anyone, although clearly it was enjoyed by many. There are far better books out there that portray the effects of sexual assault and trauma in a more realistic fashion.(less)

So I decided to just start writing and wait for the words to come - so I am warning you, there might be a lot of rambling.

Maybe my problems to articulate myself stem from the fact that for me, this book was just the right story at the right time - but that's just for me, not universal. I could really relate to Jacqueline as I am in a situation similar to hers at the moment. Minus the stalker, minus the university I don't even want to attend and okay, minus the hot guy interested in me, but also rearranging my life after the end of a longterm relationship. So, in a way, Jacqueline's story had an almost empowering effect on me.

At its core, this book is a romance, so yes, if you are not into romance, you should probably stay away. It also features a somewhat brooding, dark, damaged and a little mysterious kind of guy, so yes, if you can't stand that at all, you should probably stay away, too. But still, this book is about more than just romance as well. It is about finding back to yourself after being part of an "us" for a long time, having unlearnt just being an "I". It is also about healing after a traumatic experience, and learning to stand up for yourself even under adverse circumstances. It celebrates friendship between girls, and the power that comes from knowing your girlfriends have your back.

It is an engrossing, unputdownable almost (I had a rather mean headache after plowing through in one afternoon) and definitely very sexy and mature read. It falls in the so called "new adult" category that has really taken off recently, and by featuring college-aged characters, is kind of in between the teen and adult section.

This book touches on many issues, but never felt over-crowded with them, as if trying to address too many things at once. Its characters don't always make the best decisions, but their choices never made me resent them. It just made them seem human. Just one thing struck me as odd: Jacqueline plays the upright bass, and music plays a very important part in her life. She had the chance to apply for a music conservatory, after all. Yet, in this story, music always takes a subordinate role. Yes, it is mentioned, but I never felt as if it really shaped her as a character. I love music related books, so that was a bit disappointing for me.

In the end, this certainly is not a perfect book. But it was (almost) perfect for me. Notice me putting the almost in brackets? I just can't bring myself to label something perfect anymore. It's been ages since I've given five stars to a book - have I become too high maintenance?

In a story like this the characters--their development and likeable qualities--are the most important, and this is where Tammara excels. As much as Jacqueline is created with tons of layers and a personality you can't help but adore, Lucas' character, with his tattoos, his Harley, and an extremely kind soul, is not neglected with his development one bit. These two characters become real, breathing, living beings that are effortless in getting us to care for them. Even though the chemistry between them is a character in and of itself, with palpable electricity and obvious attraction, the relationship never felt overly embellished, too perfect, or fairy-tail-ish. The imperfections and obstacles they endure make it less of a fantasy romance, and more a romance that you believe could truly happen. As a side but not a lesser character, Erin--Jaqueline's roommate and new best friend--lends the book a nice dash of humour, with my favourite being her amusing relationship advice. Her loyalty and support gives the perfect example of what a true friend should be. Throughout the story, the complexities of these characters become even more exposed as we discover layers that weren't immediately obvious, especially when Lucas' past comes into play, proving once again that character growth is just as important for a story like this to have its full effect.

The college setting is a great aspect to this novel. Having gone to college in business I found the economic chatter amusing and nostalgic. College days is a time in your life that will always stay with you, and while High School will (unfortunately) never be forgotten, college is where we really find ourselves--at least for a lot of us. This is one of the biggest allures of this New Adult genre for me, and this book portrays it perfectly. It's a time where, like Jacqueline, you make new friends, you start learning realities of the real world, and you say goodbye to your high school mistakes. Some darker consequences than what most will have to live through is introduced in this story, however, which keeps the tone of this college life on a slightly darker side than the norm, giving the story a bit of an underlying suspense. It provides it with a little oomph, alongside the romance, without it being overly dramatic to the point where it becomes emotional manipulation. Overall it's a wonderfully told romantic story.

I really have no complaints about this one; I mean, it has your expected "broken character with worst case scenario dark past", but even so, it was beautiful, sweet, romantic, and fantastically crafted. The only reason I hesitate to give a 5 is because of how it compares emotionally to my last 5 star NA read (Hopeless) which was a lot more affecting for me--that one truly gutted me until I was bruised. Easy is more a love story with some dark tones, while Hopeless is more dark tones with a love story. And yes I'm comparing the two because I'm thinking that, for some, whichever of these you will read first might possibly trump the other.

This was my first Tammara Webber book but I can assure you, it won't be my last. Even though the ending was a tad predictable, I've heard wonderful things about this author. Though I'm not a huge YA fan, my first instincts were to skip this genre altogether, no matter how much everyone was ranting about them. I am so glad I didn't take myself too seriously and in my ever-present endeavor to read something "different" I've found a few YA/New Adult Contemporary books lately that have been beyond good; this book being no exception. This story is about the realization of finding what matters and forgiving those who no longer should. It's about love and apprehension. It's about staying close to someone without losing yourself. It's also about chasing your dreams while you can still be carefree enough in life to do it.(less)

Anyone who I add as a friend on here knows by now that I never pick up Contemporary YA novels. Most just don't work for me, and if all the flaws can hide behind vampires, zombies, and magic it becomes easier to ignore the faults. Thank you Tammara Webber for eliminating the doubt I had before reading this book.

Honestly, 5 stars is not even close to enough to rate this book!

As a die hard anti YA reader I was reluctant to try Easy, but on the recommendation of a friend (Thank You Emily!) I went out on a limb and tried it. I was not disappointed. To classify this book as YA, even YA-M to me is cheating the author. The characters are mature, make adult decisions and Ms. Webbers writing is beautifully flawless.

Having finished this in less than 24hrs I highly recommend it to anyone who loves their romance...more

Le sigh.... I wanted to love this book. I really did. But the characters frustrated me to no end. I did however, love Lucas and Jacqueline - the parts of the book where they were actually interacting were by far the highlights of the story for me.

The hero and heroine just did not make what I'd call smart relationship decisions. I was really rooting for them and they WERE utterly adorable together, but they just didn't seem to be very functional for a vast majority of the book.

However, I will say that this is a book about choices, the nasty and the sweet side of life, empowerment, and friendship. Jacqueline and Lucas are brought together for a reason…to save each other. When you know its right, grab on, hold on, reach out, be patient…“good things come to those who wait”.

Tammara Webber did a wonderful job depicting the college setting, and unfortunately, what can also be the sad reality of campus life. Just beware, there is delicate subject matter addressed in this book, and the picture painted isn’t always pretty, this is more than just a light YA romance.

As for Lucas, he was once a bad-boy, still had the bad boy “image”, was fierce and protective when need be, but he was also a sweet gentle soul *sigh*! He is the stuff YA romance novels are made of, every girl’s dream. Jacqueline was a little naïve, but with some nudging from her awesome, brazen, loyal roommate and friend Erin, she empowered herself with the knowledge and skills that allowed her to take a stand. Yes!!!

The story is well-written, compact, but complete. Initially I didn’t think that the length of the book would allow the story to develop properly, but it did and the epilogue finished it off nicely. It left me very satisfied. This is the fourth book that I’ve read from Tammara Webber and I look forward to seeing what this gifted author has in store for us. I highly recommend this read and the other books she has to offer.

4.5 stars - I wouldn't say this book was totally mind-blowing because it wasn't, but I did find myself really, really liking it because of everything it involved. So I have no problems bumping it up.

After rereading the summary, I just realized that it didn't mention the most important issue involving Jacqueline being "stalked by her ex's frat brother," which is kind of surprising considering that readers need to be prepared for the emotions that may come with the (view spoiler)...more 4.5 stars - I wouldn't say this book was totally mind-blowing because it wasn't, but I did find myself really, really liking it because of everything it involved. So I have no problems bumping it up.

After rereading the summary, I just realized that it didn't mention the most important issue involving Jacqueline being "stalked by her ex's frat brother," which is kind of surprising considering that readers need to be prepared for the emotions that may come with the (view spoiler). Having said that, I felt this is one of the most tactfully written books on this subject because authors tend to involve TOO much feelings to the point where it becomes depressing to read or NOT ENOUGH where sometimes you feel the victim becomes detached as they try to block out the trauma involved. With this book, you were able to sympathize with Jacqueline because it almost happened, yet the threat remained there the whole time so there's the constant fear. And it did happen to someone else, so it's not like Webber copped out from telling you about it overall.

Now to the actual story that WAS teased in the summary. I really liked Jacqueline because, honestly, I was prepared for her to be some mopey, whiny character that is so depressed about giving up her life for a guy and it not working out. But Jacqueline was anything but that. Sure, she had her two weeks BEFORE the book begins really, but she really took the challenges thrown at her head on.

I have to say the romantic interest with Landon and Lucas and what ends up happening did not surprise me at all - probably because I've read (view spoiler). I had an inkling early on and pretty much confirmed it once I started seeing hints here and there, especially during (view spoiler). Still, I think Webber did crafty job setting up the story, and you can see how Jacqueline can find admirable traits in each guy. Now I might get nasty remarks for this next part, but I did find there were things Lucas did that were kind of, well stalkerish. He watched her; he followed her; he drew her. Heck, he even said admitted to being stalkerish. BUT Webber had a way of spinning actions that could be considered as creepy into things that may even be considered romantic. I was preferential to Landon, but both guys had swoon-worthy moments.

The best part of this book were the supporting characters. Too often, you'll have the BFF in the book that is so super annoying that you wonder why your main character ever befriended them in the first place. I thought Benji was awesome from his initial sleepy, carefree nonchalance to becoming a really cool friend. And Erin - who wouldn't love Erin. She had a spunk to her, and she was so loyal through everything, even when Chaz wasn't so supportive.

Overall, like I said, this book wasn't totally mind-blowing. But it was a very enjoyable read with a good mix of light fun to more serious issues. It contained some thought-provoking situations but didn't bog you down with the heavy burden of overwhelming emotions. And it had a good amount of drama but not to the point where it was so much that it took away from the story either. So it was a pretty well rounded book, and I don't have hesitation bumping it up.(less)
