Add Goodreads to Your Ereader This Holiday Season: How to find our apps on your favorite devices
If you're one of those lucky people opening a shiny new Kindle Fire, Nook Tablet, iPad, or different ereader tablet device this holiday season, you are in for a special treat (well, besides the ability to take your entire library with you wherever you go): Did you know that you can use Goodreads on your ereader, tablet, or smart phone?
If not, you may want to join the more than 450,000 people who have installed our iPhone/iPad app, or the 160,000 users of our relatively new Android app, which was released in May. Best of all, both of these apps are completely free!
Installing the Goodreads app is quick and easy. Simply follow these instructions to get Goodreads on your device:
Barnes & Noble Nook Color/Tablet: Touch the '^' symbol at the bottom of your home screen, then choose "apps". Search for Goodreads and click "Install." Launch the app, and you will see the main menu, which will allow you to navigate to the app's various sections, such as "Updates," "My Books," and "Search." To add books, update your progress, and many other activities, you'll need to sign in to the app. There are "Sign In" and "Sign Up" links at the bottom of the main menu. You can log in using your Goodreads information or log in with Facebook.

Amazon Kindle Fire: Simply tap "Apps" on your home screen, then tap "Store." Search for Goodreads and click "Install." Launch the app, and you will see the main menu, which will allow you to navigate to the app's various sections, such as "Updates," "My Books," and "Search." To add books, update your progress, and many other activities, you'll need to sign in to the app. There are "Sign In" and "Sign Up" links at the bottom of the main menu. You can log in using your Goodreads information or log in with Facebook.

iPad: Tap the "Apps Store" and search for Goodreads. Install the app, then log in using your Goodreads account or sign in with Facebook. Our iPad and iPhone app also includes access to Listopia lists and a browse-by-genre section.
Other Android Tablets, such as the Motorola Xoom, ViewSonic gTablet, and the Samsung Galaxy Tab: Launch the "Market" app, then tap on the search icon. Search for Goodreads and tap "Download." Launch the app, and you will see the main menu, which will allow you to navigate to the app's various sections, such as "Updates," "My Books," and "Search." To add books, update your progress, and many other activities, you'll need to sign in to the app. There are "Sign In" and "Sign Up" links at the bottom of the main menu. You can log in using your Goodreads information or log in with Facebook.
iPhone & Android phone users: You can download the Goodreads app by accessing the app store on your phone. Don't forget to check out the barcode scanner, one of our most popular features. Goodreads members have scanned more than a million books with their phones!

Once you're logged in to your new Goodreads app, you can enjoy many of the features you know and love on our site. Discover new books by seeing what your friends are reading, keep up with your book club through the 'groups' feature, and track your progress through your book with reading status updates. It's your access to Goodreads wherever you may read!

you left out the KOBO VOX
flag
Good point, Steph. I added it to the "Other Android tablets" section, as the process would be the same.
Steph wrote: "the vox is an ereader"The app is the same one that will work in Android-based tablets, available in the app store for free.
Janelle wrote: "Nook Tablet PLEASE!"Janelle, the Nook Tablet is fully supported. You should be able to use the same app available for the Nook Color: just follow Patrick's instructions.
Jana wrote: "Does it work on Nook 1st Edition??"No, sorry. The 1st edition Nook is not Android compatible.
Thanks - got it! I wish the "share" features on Nook could connect to goodreads... if you're keeping a wish list, there's a suggestion for you!
Beside iOS, the app is for Android devices only, so not for any old generation Kindles or any e-ink Kindles for that matter.Estrella, I suggest you contact customer support for the issues with your Kobo Vox. Please send us screenshots or any descriptions of errors you are experiencing.
Will you be adding the percentage read feature to the iPhone app? That's one of my favourite things (as is the reading challenge, which is also not on the app).
Oana wrote: "Will you be adding the percentage read feature to the iPhone app? That's one of my favourite things (as is the reading challenge, which is also not on the app)."Oana, you can add your progress update as percentage already. In the progress update screen, tap on the blue "page" link at the top-left to switch to % mode.
The reading challenge is not in the near future plans for the app unfortunately. This reminds me that the app is not (and will never be) a full website replacement. It's rather a mobile companion, that focuses on the most common on-the-go situations, such as quick lookup of book reviews via barcode scanner, access to your updates, shelves and groups.
Hope this clarifies a bit why some features are missing from the apps!
Will you have an app for the HP touchpad? And does your app work with the 7" Lenovo a1android tablet?
Sapsmith wrote: "Will you have an app for the HP touchpad? And does your app work with the 7" Lenovo a1android tablet?"At this time, we have no plans to create an app for webOS devices, which includes the HP Touchpad.
The Lenovo IdeaPad A1 Tablet appears to use the Google Android Market, and our app is available there. You can follow the "Other Android" instructions above.
Thanks, Ettorre. I meant the nifty little percentage read bar that appears once I've entered what page I'm on.
Kobo Vox owners (including Steph, Wahiaronkwas, and Estrella): Sorry, our app is actually not yet available in the Kobo Vox's app store. In the meantime, you could install the Amazon Appstore for Android, and then use that to install the Goodreads app (and many others).
Noticed an oddity in the iPad app this morning. I searched for this book (http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/13...) by title and by the author's surname in the iPad app and it wasn't found. However, when I searched for the title on your web site, the book was found. Why is it that the app and web site have discrepancy in data?

I've verified that this happens in both our iOS and Android apps, and though a similar search for other books often works, I have created a ticket for the issue. Thanks for letting us know about it!

BTW, once I added the book to one of my shelves on the web site, I had no problem getting to it via the shelf in the iOS app.
Hey Steve,Unfortunately, due to contractual obligations with amazon.com, we're not allow to show certain book data in our mobile apps.
Anyway to get the regular Kindle? I do not like the back lit eReaders. It would be great to rate and post comments directly from my Kindle. I use my iPhone app only occasionally.
I'm trying to "purchase" this app on my Kindle Fire, but it keeps giving me a dialog box that says to "click here" (which isn't working) to add a credit card to my account. Since the "click here" isn't working, I jumped on Goodreads on my desktop, but there's no place to put a credit card in my account info. Help!
I'm fairly certain Amazon didn't allow us to make a kindle 3g app. So even if we wanted to, we can't.:(
Robin - When I added the Goodreads app to my Kindle Fire it was free. Make sure when you go to apps/store you can type in Goodreads and it should come up. It should say free and when you hit free it says to purchase. Just tap on purchase and it will go to download. There will be no cost. It never asked me for a credit card.
