On Week Four of Our Month of New England Authors, Marie Force

For the month of September I’m hosting local authors. Through different  organizations I’ve had the distinct pleasure of meeting some amazingly talented writers currently residing in my own backyard. Graciously, four of these wonderful ladies have agreed to visit my blog during the month of September.

I have the distinct pleasure of hosting Laura Moore on the 6th, Mia Marlowe on the 13th, Jane Goodger on the 20th and Marie Force on the 27th. Along with  each of these ladies spending some time with us they’re also giving away some fantastic prizes. (Contest is only open to continental US.) Each week there will be a give away of one book from the visiting author. At the end of the month there’s a grand prize collection of books from all five of us.

Enter to win each week by leaving a comment after each post. Earn more points by liking each author’s  Facebook page and following them on twitter. Each post will detail the specific opportunities for earning points. Winners for the previous week will be announced on the following Thursday.

To be entered into the month-long grand prize you must comment on each blog post. More points will be earned for liking Facebook pages and following on Twitter.

The final prize winner will be announced on October 2nd.

See the details about the weekly prizes at the bottom of each post.

And now, onto Marie!

How do you think growing up in Rhode Island influenced your writing?

We’re told to write what we know, and I know Rhode Island. It’s a beautiful place and has inspired me in so many ways. I love that I get to bring some exposure to “Little Rhody” through my books.

What’s your favorite place to visit in Rhode Island?

It’s a tie between Block Island and Newport. Block Island is our favorite annual vacation spot and Newport is home, so both hold a special place in my heart.

Do you have a favorite Rhode Island restaurant?

The National Hotel on Block Island–best view, atmosphere, music, service and food. There’s nowhere better to dine al fresco on a summer evening.

What part of your writing process to you find to be the most exhilarating? And which part is the most taxing?

The most exhilarating is seeing an idea come to life on the page. The most taxing is deadlines. I hate deadlines, and I have a lot of them these days. Nothing kills the creative process more than writing with a looming deadline.

Tell us about a family tradition passed down from your mom that you’ve continued with your children.

My mom was big on saving money, and I’ve tried to continue that with my kids. My mom died nine years ago, so they like to think they are doing it for her when they put money away.

I’ll be at the Emerald City Romance Writer’s conference Oct. 18-20, and I’m holding a reader event and book signing in Seattle on Oct. 20 that still has some spots available. I’m co-hosting the Independent Author Symposium on Nov. 1-2 in Rhode Island, speaking at the New Hampshire Romance Writers monthly meeting on November 9 and will be hosting a Reader Weekend in Rhode Island over Memorial Day 2014 so readers can come to my home state and see some of the places they’ve read about in my books. Details about all of these events are on my website at marieforce.com.
