British writer living in Valencia, Spain.

Mark Hodder is the creator and caretaker of the Blakiana: The Sexton Blake Resource web site, which he designed to celebrate, record, and revive Sexton Blake, the most written about fictional detective in English publishing history.

A former BBC writer, editor, journalist, and Web producer, Mark has worked in all the new and traditional medias and was based in London for most of his working life until 2008, when he relocated to Valencia in Spain to de-stress and write novels. He can most often be found at the base of a palm tree, hammering at a laptop.

Mark has a degree in cultural studies and loves British history (1850 to 1950, in particular), good food, cutting-edge gadgets, cult TV (ITC forever!),

Since (and including) my 2009 debut—THE STRANGE AFFAIR OF SPRING HEELED JACK—I’ve written eight novels and a scattering of short stories (short stories neither herd nor swarm, they only scatter). By the end of the year, it will be nine novels. My current project currently stands at 130,000 words. I’m two chapters into the third act, which means the total length may well touch 200,000, giving it... Read more of this blog post »

All the usual ERB cautions apply: this is racist and sexist, character motivations are cartoon-level basic, and the plot, which takes the form of a prolonged chase, is plain silly. Normally, with this sort of thing, I’m able to consider it in its his ...more

An extremely well-written novel, with characters that spring fully-fledged off each page. The story is imbued with a ‘fifties vibe (it was published in 1960), and the tech is marvellously outmoded, but where these factors may have dated a lesser tale ...more
