Brad Here you go. Our poll for May's Theme book. This is the place to do battle over the nominees, make the case for your choice, or slag off the books you don't want to see win.

Also, some members have been talking to me about the topic of "e-Book Piracy," and I decided to open a discussion thread about the issue. If you're interested, stop by over here and join the chat

♥Xeni♥ Wow, all the books look great! Which to pick?

message 3: by Cindy (new)

Cindy I'm so torn! I've always wanted to read something by Mary Gentle. OTOH, Bring the Jubilee is on the SF Masterworks list. And Farthing was an interesting book I enjoyed reading.

Robert Pielke Aw shucks MY book didn't make the list!?!?! Wha????

Hahahhah

A New Birth of Freedom The Visitor by Robert G. Pielke

lézengő reader I voted on A Secret History but won't be unhappy with Burton and Swinburne either.

Kevin Xu I'm going to sit this one out, miss the chance to nominate a book. For Turtledove, Guns of the South would be mine because it was book that got him rolling on alternate history, but I don't know if that would be considered as science fiction or not?

message 7: by [deleted user] (new)

Damn, that nomination thread went quick :P

I voted for turtledove.

I have no idea why.

My vote is for sale. Offers welcome!

message 8: by ♥Xeni♥ (new)

♥Xeni♥ I voted for Turtledove too... it had the most interesting title :P

(And I did read the summary and I liked it too. So there.)

message 9: by Michelle (new)

Michelle I have heard nothing but praise for that Gentle book, and in fact it's sitting neglected on my bookshelf even now. good time to get around to it!

message 10: by Ubik (new)

Ubik Well I loved Greener Than You Think and Id been meaning to read it anyway so: Bring The Jubilee for me

Caleb Blake Voted for Pashazade because I actually own it.

Burton and Swinburne looks great, but if it's not an eBook, I'm unlikely to get my hands on it. Wonder if the author's intending to e-publish this book at some stage.

Regards
Caleb

There's a Kindle edition, but I'm not finding a NookBook version.

There's a Kind..."

Not for us Australians unfortunately.

Cindy aw, bummer. Stupid geo-restrictions.

Kim Mod
Opening Atlantis isn't my real idea of an alternate history. It's going back millions of years and creating a new continent. I prefer alt histories to be where a pivotal moment in history went the other way and how things changed from that. So to that end I voted for Farthing.

message 16: by Arnold (new)

Arnold I know this is way too late and may not even quite fit the SciFi genre, but one excellent alternate history book is Dean Koontz: Lightning
Lightning
The main characters go in and out of different realities that are centered around "if Germany would have won WW II".
I read most Koontz books, and that one always really stuck out as being excellent!

message 17: by Brad (new)

Brad Thanks for the suggestion, Arnold. Could you go and add that to the Master Sci-Fi book list? I can't remember which folder it is part of at the moment, but that would be a massive help.

Hi Brad, unfortunately I don't know what or where the "Master Sci-Fi book list" is. If you are referring to the Bookshelf, only the moderators can add to that.

message 19: by Brad (new)

Brad I will grab you the link in a bit.

message 20: by Brad (new)

Brad Sorry, Arnold. I let myself get distracted last night and didn't remember this until now: here's the list

Small Shop Blogger Man, I really need to get on here more and vote. I mean, I've voted before, just don't do it often enough.

That being said, Im glad to see Turtledove at the top.

Richard Mumble,mumble, mutter,mutter.

Just spent a fruitless afternoon in Denver CO. trying to buy an ebook version of Opening Atlantis, what has the electronic world got against my British credit card. The lovely people in Tattered Cover, had no problem using it to sell me four nice solid real books.

Mutter,mutter, mumble,mumble.
