Never give up..
So don’t quit. Make challenging but realistic plans and work at making them happen. And whatever you do, don’t rely on luck. In any case, if you’re doing it properly, you won’t need it.

The title is tempting. Some material is repeated over and over in just different wording and syntax. But in overall it was good.

In this book, How to Get What You Want...Without Having to Ask by Richard Templar, you learn nothing new apart from what you are told from the moment you are born:

1. Be honest
2. Work hard
3. Set deadlines
4. Write it all down
5. Look confident
6. Act confident
7. Learn to say no (of course you are not told this; the opposite is what is forced down your throat, you're even beaten to it)
8. Get to know people (networking, very important)
9. Pick up the signals (of things going awry, or of when is the best time to ask what you want and get it)
10. Learn to listen properly, and
11. Be objective

The book provides insight into how people think, the psychology behind their behaviour, and if you want them to dance to your tune, it's good to get a copy of this book and read.

Simple, straightforward wisdom concealed in one-pager rules.

For most people that are on a journey to take more control in their lives and believe it is their power that creates the results they want instead of luck, this book will not provide fundamentally new knowledge. The main takeaway for me was, however, that preparing and thinking things through does more than half of the job. The rules are simple and easy to understand. Of course, the application always depends on your own context. The biggest value, however, that the book offers is basically an outline for getting what you want without having to ask. Sometimes it does not hurt to have a look-up at hand in a straightforward layout and language.

On top of that, you want people to see you as someone they'd like to help and support. If you present yourself as a positive, likeable person, why would anyone say no to you, without a really good reason? And if they do have a really good reason to say no - well, there are ways to deal with that, too. Ways of helping them say yes.

Clear and inspirational book. The "rules" given are short, memorable, and the explanatory notes equally concise. I liked the suggestion to "make a date" to discuss something when you want to discuss a topic - it's basically creating clear follow up timings.

Nice book with some practical advice. The only thing is that it sounds as not always applicable to business situations and won't be fit in any cultural environment.

I would say this book should be titled “how to ask questions the right way” rather than its title.

How to Get What You Want Without Having to Ask by Richard Templar is a simple examination of the techniques to get people give you what you want. I didn't learn anything new from this book, but that's probably not a fair way to judge the book. I tend to usually get what I want anyway. The techniques described are simple and easy to understand even if a few do seem to contradict others. He sometimes points this out and explains why there are two approaches listed. It may serve someone who struggles to get what they want with some simple techniques to make their desires known. Even though Templar stressses that manipulation isn't the way to get what you want, some of the techniques described certainly border on manipulation. Others though are simply about learning to express one's wants in a more effective way. How to Get What You Want Without Having to Ask is well written with a bit of humor thrown in from time to time.

Generally I already got what I wanted without to having to ask too hard. This book however reminded me of the steps that I had to take to build the climax, which some readers might find helpful. Plus more extra tips to ensure that things will work out just fine (for general or your benefits of course).
