Pratchett's first novel, The Carpet People, was published in 1971. The first Discworld novel, The Colour of Magic, was published in 1983, after which Pratchett wrote an average of two books a year. The final Discworld novel, The Shepherd's Crown, was published in August 2015, five months after his death.
With more than 100 million books sold worldwide in 43 languages, Pratchett was the UK's best-selling author of the 1990s. He was appointed an Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) in 1998 and was knighted for services to literature in the 2009 New Year Honours. In 2001 he won the annual Carnegie Medal for The Amazing Maurice and His Educated Rodents, the first Discworld book marketed for children. He received the World Fantasy Award for Life Achievement in 2010.
In December 2007 Pratchett announced that he had been diagnosed with early-onset Alzheimer's disease. He later made a substantial public donation to the Alzheimer's Research Trust (now Alzheimer's Research UK, ARUK), filmed three television programmes chronicling his experiences with the condition for the BBC, and became a patron of ARUK. Pratchett died on 12 March 2015, at the age of 66.

Imi amintesc ca m-a super amuzat, este scrisa cu multa ironie :D.
Nu stiu cum de nu am sesizat atunci ca face parte dintr-o serie, cred ca ar fi avut mai multa noima daca incepeam cu primul volum :)) - mi-am propus sa citesc toate cartile, tinand cont ca dupa atata timp inca mi-a ramas gandul in lumea imaginata de Terry Pratchett.

„...Au un Tiran nou la fiecare cinci ani și mai întâi îi fac ceva. Ezită. Cred că îl voi-tează.
- Asta e ceva cum se face la motani, tauri și alte animale?
- Ăăăăă...
- Știi tu. Ca să nu se mai bată și să fie pașnici.
Tepic se strâmbă.
- Sincer, nu sunt sigur, spuse el. Dar nu cred. Au ceva cu care o fac, cred că se cheamă mocrație și înseamnă că toată lumea din țară poate să zică cine e noul Tiran. Un om, un... Se opri. Lecția de istorie politică părea să fi avut loc cu foarte mult timp în urmă și prezentase concepte necunoscute în Djellibeybi sau în Ankh-Morpork, la drept vorbind. Făcu o încercare, totuși. Un om, un vit.
- Deci asta e pentru voitare?
El dădu din umeri. Ar fi putut fi, din câte știa.
- Ideea este, totuși, că oricine o poate face. Sunt foarte mândri de asta. Toată lumea are...Ezită iar, sigur acum că lucrurile nu erau în regulă... vitul. În afară de femei, firește. Și de copii. Și de infractori. Și de sclavi. Și de oameni de altă naționalitate. Și de oameni care nu sunt de acord din, ăă, diferite motive. Și de mulți alți oameni. Dar toată lumea, în afară de ei. E o civilizație foarte luminată.”
