एकदाचा वाचून झाला. पुस्तक कंटाळवाणे होते असे नाही. मला वेळ नव्हता असे सुध्दा नाही. पण या पुस्तकात दुःख, शोषण, अन्याय, विरह, कुचंबणा, अपयश एवढे टिच्चून भरले आहे की ते एकाच वेळी ग्रहण करणे शक्‍य नाही. मला तरी शक्य नाही. गांधी वध करणाऱ्याचा भाऊ, एवढाच काय तो दोष गोपाळ गोडसेंचा पण तरीही त्यासाठी विनाकारण १५ वर्षे कारागृहात काढावी लागली. चांगल्या वर्तनामुळे तब्बल ८ वर्षे जमवलेली सूट, तेव्हाच्या कॉंग्रेसप्रणीत सरकारच्या दुटप्पी धोरणामुळे प्रत्यक्षात मात्र मिळाली नाही. या शासनाच्या अन्यायाविरुद्ध त्यांनी सर्वोच्च न्यायालयात संघर्ष केला आणि जणू अपयशाची मालिकाच सुरू झाली. हे प्रकरण अंगी येणार असे वाटले तेव्हा त्यांना कलम ४०१ द्वारे दया देण्यात आली.
पुस्तकाची भाषा एका मराठीप्रेमीची मान गर्वाने उंच करणारी आहे. या एवढ्या शुध्द भाषेमागे लेखकाचे संस्कृत ज्ञान दिसून येते. प्रत्येक प्रकरण तर्कशुद्ध, तर्कसंगत लिहिले गेले आहे. भाषाप्रेमी असाल तर पुर्ण पुस्तक कुठेच कंटाळवाणे वाटत नाही. सहनशील असाल व शुद्ध भाषा झेपत असेल तरच हे पुस्तक हातात घ्या.

३० जानेवारी १९४८ रोजी महात्मा गांधींची हत्या झाल्यावर या कटातील आरोपी पकडले जाऊन त्यापैकी नथूराम गोडसे व नारायण आपटे यांना फाशी देण्यात आले, तर इतर तिघांना जन्मठेप झाली. गांधी-हत्येविरूध्दचा लोकक्षोभ इतका तीव्र होता की नथूरामने आपली बाजू न्यायालयात नि:संदिग्ध शब्दांत मांडूनही त्याला माथेफिरू ठरविण्यात आले. नथूरामचे बंधू व या कटातील एक आरोपी गोपाळ गोडसे यांनी लिहिलेल्या या पुस्तकाचा प्रतिपाद्य विषय हा आहे की गांधी-हत्त्या हे भावनेच्या भरात, परीणाम न पाहता केलेले आततायी कृत्य नसून ती थंड डोक्याने योजिलेली राजकीय हत्त्या होती.
प्रस्तुत ग्रंथात, पकडले गेल्यानंतरचे आरोपींचे वर्तन, त्यांच्यावरील अभियोग, गोडसे-आपटे यांची फाशी, उर्वरीतांची जन्मठेप व त्यांचे कौटूंबिक जीवन याचा सविस्तर आलेख मांडला आहे. अर्धा डझन छायाचित्रें पुस्तकाला ऐतिहासिक महत्व प्राप्त करून देतात.
गांधी-हत्त्येची ही दूसरी बाजू जिज्ञासूंनी जरूर वाचावी.

Biased book, with lot of potholes, created with pure intentions to villainify the Mahatma & to dethrone him from the hearts of every Indian. महात्म्याला धार्मिक प्रकरणातून खलनायक ठरविण्यासाठी नी भविष्यातील प्रत्येक भारतीय मनातून हद्दपार करणेसाठी केलेला एक कट म्हणजे हे पुस्तक आहे. ज्यांना हे पुस्तक आवडले असेल किंवा ज्यांना वाचायचं असेल, त्यांना माझी नम्र विनंती आहे की आपण यापुस्तकापाठोपाठ य.दि. फडके लिखित 'नथुरामायण' व जगन फडणिस लिखित 'महात्म्याची अखेर' ही पुस्तके जरूर वाचावित. नरहर कुरुंदकर लिखित 'शिवरात्र' व ''जागर' या पुस्तकांमधे केलेली समीक्षा वाचावी. या थोर विभूती/इतिहासकारांनी पुरावे देऊन नथुराम नी गोपाळ गोडसेंना खोडुन काढलंय. आणि त्यांच्या भक्तांना पण...

This is one side of story. You need to listen to other side to draw verdict. The book did answer some curiosity one would harbor about the person who assassinated Gandhi. Post assassination life of convicts was not easy. It also brought to attention one fundamental antithesis to philosophy of non-violence - Nathuram Godse was hanged.
Along with Godse, Nana Apte was hanged and three others were sentenced to life imprisonment.

I like this book, by understanding the other side of the story, great writing skills and rich marathi language skills.
A very detailed experience of how Gopal Godse and his family went through after Assassination of Mahatma Gandhi..

An Innocent & true books, reveals only the facts one by one about Gandhi assassination as well as the situation after his death. Book contains all the details of the court case & its decision about the convicts. In few last chapters Gopalji has narrated his life in imprisonment & the different experiences he had to face during his life as a prisoner.

Good info. But its a personal account of Gopalji (as the title says) with respect to Gandhi Assassination. Much part of the book is devoted to Gopalji's imprisonment, his continuous struggle on life time imprisonment etc. It is NOT a detailed historical account of Gandhi Assassination.
