STARember’s art hardback in English 🥰🥰🥰. TGCF is not even my favorite danmei yet somehow I have the 1) Paperbacks 2) Special Editions hardbacks 3) CN manhua 4) Donghua comic boxset and now 5) English manhua. Definitely feeling guilty about overconsumption 😔

I received an ARC of this book for free from the publisher for promotional purposes.

This was a great start to the series!

Going into this, I knew nothing about the comic or the danmei novel it was based on. I went into it blind.

First off, the art is absolutely stunning! Since I had an ARC, the majority of the book was in black and white. However, there were some pages in the beginning that were in full color. All I can say is: wow! The artwork looked like watercolor paintings and it gave the story an ethereal feel. The style matched the vibe of the story perfectly.

The story was slightly confusing at times. Part of that was due to the fact that the ARC was in black and white which made it hard to see exactly what was going on. Due to the nature of the art style, it needs to be in color to fully enjoy. The story is also a slow burn so not much is revealed (especially in regard to the lead character).

The book also included a cast list and pronunciation guide which I found so helpful.

Overall, I am very intrigued with where this story will go. If you’re looking to read a graphic novel with gorgeous artwork, consider this one!

"May heavenly officials give their blessings. No paths are bound."

I knew the art was beautiful before I bought this, but seeing it in print completely floored me. Every single page turn felt special. I had experienced the story through reading the novel and watching the donghua, so I thought I knew what to expect. I didn’t. Holding it in my hands felt like walking through a gallery of paintings. The colors feel deeper. The details feel more intentional. I caught myself just staring at certain panels because they were that stunning. At one point I realized I was already halfway through the book and felt a little sad about it. I was reading so fast because I was so absorbed. I also noticed there were scenes I remembered that didn’t show up here. I’m not sure if they were never part of STARember’s version or if they were removed for publication, but the missing pieces made the pacing feel faster than I expected, which feels pretty common with manhua adaptations.

What really stayed with me though was Xie Lian. He’s the kind of character that quietly gets under your skin. He’s been humiliated, demoted, laughed at, and still he moves through the world with kindness. Watching him carry himself with dignity even when he’s broke, mocked, and literally shackled did something to me. His compassion doesn’t feel forced. It feels earned. The world around him is layered with heavenly bureaucracy, merit debts, ghost classifications, and old tragedies, but none of it felt overwhelming. It all flows naturally, mixed with humor, eerie moments, and emotional punches that sneak up on you. I loved how the tone can shift from light and awkward to genuinely unsettling within a few pages.

My only real complaint is the title choice. Calling it “Heaven Official’s Blessing (the comic)” felt awkward to me. It’s a manhua. I get why they probably did it. It makes it easier for English readers to separate it from the novel and it probably helps with marketing, especially for people new to danmei. Still, it sounded clunky. That small issue aside, this volume is beautiful and immersive. It reminded me why I fell in love with this story in the first place.

I picked this up for the gorgeous artwork, and it did not disappoint. What a stunning adaptation! This collection takes the reader through the end of the Ghost Groom arc and leaves us on a bit of a cliffhanger. I’m not familiar with the underlying novel but was able to follow the storyline just fine.

I checked this book out from my public library.

3,5 ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ✨

4.5 ⭐️ FINALLY the English version is here!! Such stunning art, a small art book in itself. Low on text but high on gorgeous visuals. Might be difficult to understand for new readers who haven’t read the novel, as a lot of information is left out due to the medium (a manhua/comic adaptation), so I’d recommend picking up the original first. Nonetheless, I can’t get enough of this beautiful story and its incredible characters ❤️

STARember my beloved SUCH GORGEOUS ART AAAHHHHH!!!! Love this so much, such beautiful rendition of one of my favourite stories 🥰 Don't recommend of you haven't read the novel or seen the animated series since you miss out on quite a lot of story, but nonetheless a very fun adaptation ♡ However if you don't mind flying over many plot elements, you can give it a try and enjoy the gorgeous visuals hehe~

This is my first purchase for physical manhua. I was amazed by the art of starember, really majestic. The story in this book stopped at the end of Ghost Bride arc.

Every adaptation has their own, and i think this manhua skipped some from the novel/donghua. We can't see the young Pei Ming, and Xie Lian ascending was told slightly.

Still this book has its own temptation, i can't stop to turn the pages because THE ARTSTYLE OMG. Hope they announce the 2nd manhua soon.

I think this is now the third format in which I've experienced this story. It follows Xie Lian, once the beloved crown prince of Xianle, now a god who has ascended three times and been banished from the heavenly realm twice.

Xie Lian's third ascension caused some damage that he is being allowed to pay for with whatever merits he earns investigating a case for the Heavenly Emperor. There have been reports of brides being snatched from their wedding processions around Mount Yujun. The culprit is being referred to as the "Ghost Groom." Xie Lian has been tasked with finding and stopping this Ghost Groom.

This volume covers the whole Ghost Groom storyline, up to the revelation about what's under Lang Ying's bandages.

I might get some hate for this, but I personally think that this manhua is the weakest version of this story. Don't get me wrong - the art is gorgeous, lush and painterly, and this lovely print edition does it justice. Unfortunately, the artwork doesn't always communicate what's happening in the story as well as it could. For example, the only reason I was able to decipher the panel in which [redacted] stepped on the skull was because I'm already very familiar with this part of the story.

Also, this adaptation condenses things a lot, to the point that Xie Lian's ability to figure out the identity of the Ghost Groom probably would come across as a huge leap in logic for a newbie to the story.

Which is why I'd really only recommend this to those who are already fans of the original story. Newbies should start with either the original novels or the animated series. For fans, however, it hardly matters that certain parts of the story are bare bones at best or difficult to follow. The artwork is a treat for the eyes, and I'm looking forward to seeing future volumes.

Extras:

A character guide, pronunciation guide, and an explanation of consonants and vowels.

Can we just take a moment to sit in awe of the absolute beauty of this book? The artwork and craftsmanship is masterful. Even if you weren’t reading the story and were only viewing the book without the story, you could easily grasp what is going on. I don’t know if I’ve ever loved every page of a book as much as I do this one.

I have been meaning to get to Heaven Official’s Blessing for quite some time, but for one reason or another, I’ve put it off. I know what it is, of course, and it’s that there has been no audiobook to pair it with. It takes much more time for me to physically read a book (I think I need new glasses, but that isn’t here nor there). I want to read it, maybe, just so I can know what the craze is about.

When Inklore offered to send me a copy of this ahead of release date, I was jumping with joy. Not only do I get to FINALLY know what everyone is raving over, but I get to enjoy it from this incredible deluxe hardcover edition to display with my new editions of the danmei. And they all look so beautiful together! **Photos to come on Instagram**

It makes sense that the setting and characters have an ethereal quality to them, whether it be because of the time period or that they’re literally gods and “Official’s” of the Heavens. (This also helped me to understand the title) And they are all so beautiful. The male characters have an androgynous look that lends to their features that makes it so much more captivating.

I really appreciated the index of pronunciation in the beginning. I spent time sounding out each name, so that even though no one else could hear me saying them in my head, I knew I was giving them the respect they deserve.

Thank you to the publisher and authors for this incredible book.

Thank you Inklore Books and Penguin Random Worlds for providing me an ARC copy!!

This was everything I hoped it would be!! After watching the show, reading the light novels and owning the Manhua, it was SO nice to finally be able to be connect the art with the dialogue. STARember has such a style that really resonates with the heaviness that can occur in TGCF, while also adding comedic relief when needed.

Xie Lian, as always, is everything to me. I love a soft hearted character that keeps their chin up even in the face of adversity and that is my BOY! Of course we only get a mere glimpse of Hua Cheng but I know in the later editions he’s going to take me out in the best way.

This story is literally just a chefs kiss, and all the characters are so distinct and lovely in their own way. I’m looking forward to more of the translation!
