Con questo romanzo ambientato durante la TOS, ha inizio la saga "Invasione".
Il villain del romanzo è potenzialmente interessante così come il plot,ma il tutto si risolve in modo un po' troppo telefonato, con una battaglia non particolarmente avvincente e il più classico dei cliffhanger.
Troviamo un Kirk forse eccessivamente diplomatico ma che quando "alza gli scudi" mena come un fabbro e si guadagna il rispetto dei Klingon.
Ammetto di essere rimasto sorpreso delle conoscenze della Carey, che ha voluto omaggiare i fan di vecchia data con un riferimento importante a Capella IV e ai suoi bellicosi abitanti.

Storia senza troppe pretese (spero che non ne avesse) ma che si fa leggere. La trama procede liscia senza grandi sviluppi o colpi di scena. Non entusiasma ma nemmrno disgusta.
Si combatte, si parla e si combatte di nuovo.
Kirk e l'Enterprise salvano la giornata.

Il primo esperimento di una trama letteraria che legasse le 4 serie televisive di Star Trek inizia con questo romanzo della serie classica, tutto sommato alquanto insipido. Si lascia leggere se adorate i protagonisti, peraltro nemmeno ben delineati.
