Una delusione rispetto ai precedenti della Keyes che ho letto. Innanzitutto è troppo lungo, davvero sembra non finire mai. Poi l'intreccio è spesso complicato e pretenzioso e non tutti i filoni narrativi sono parimenti interessanti. Due delle protagoniste femminili (Lola e Grace) sono simpatiche ed è piacevole leggere le loro disavventure, ma tutta la parte su Marnie mi ha fatto venire voglia di farmi del male fisico. E queste donne si crogiolano talmente tanto nel vittimismo dovuto al potere, perdurato per anni, non solo fisico ma anche mentale, di questo "bastardo" che alla fine si fa fatica a simpatizzare per loro. Insomma se voleva fare un romanzo per riflettere sulle violenze sulle donne non ci è riuscita. Ogni tanto un "Ma non potevate svegliarvi prima?" sinceramente esce dal cuore.
