Robert Kirkman is an American comic book writer best known for his work on The Walking Dead, Invincible for Image Comics, as well as Ultimate X-Men and Marvel Zombies for Marvel Comics. He has also collaborated with Image Comics co-founder Todd McFarlane on the series Haunt. He is one of the five partners of Image Comics, and the only one of the five who was not one of the original co-founders of that publisher.

Robert Kirkman's first comic books were self-published under his own Funk-o-Tron label. Along with childhood friend Tony Moore, Kirkman created Battle Pope which was published in late 2001. Battle Pope ran for over 2 years along with other Funk-o-Tron published books such as InkPunks and Double Take.

In July of 2002, Robert's first work for another company began, with a 4-part SuperPatriot series for Image, along with Battle Pope backup story artist Cory Walker. Robert's creator-owned projects followed shortly thereafter, including Tech Jacket, Invincible and Walking Dead.

Questo volume è stato "okay", un numero di transizione, o di ripresa più che altro. Dopotutto, dopo il colpo di scena e il finale del volume precedente, sarebbe stato difficile tenere alto il ritmo narrativo. Dunque qui abbiamo una lenta ripresa della vita ordinaria ma non troppo di Mark. Suo padre ha lasciato il pianeta, ma le ferite impresse al mondo e alla sua famiglia rimangono come cicatrici.
Molto interessante il tema dell'alcolismo di Debbie, la madre di Mark, e il suo bisogno di parlare con qualcuno di quanto successo, che la avvicina a Claire, moglie di un altro supereroe, Superpatriot.
Mark invece affronta una serie di minacce occasionali, passando da un'invasione aliena a un matrimonio sott'acqua, da una gita fuori porta al vedersela brutta contro un tipo davvero tosto - e uno dei miei personaggi preferiti dell'Invincible Universe. Il termine "universe" qui viene usato non solo in senso metaforico, e tale definizione proverà di essere appropriata con l'avanzare della storia.
Come sempre è un piacere vedere Kirkman fondere l'ordinario con lo straordinario, con un'invasione aliena che ritarda il diploma e Mark che deve coniugare la sua vita supereroistica con la sua relazione con Amber, sempre più complicata, il tutto condito con le giuste citazioni alla cultura pop.
Un volume gradevole, di passaggio certo, ma che mette alcuni semi, e sarà un piacere vederli germogliare.
