کورنیلیا لیتچفیلد کیس بانوی اول امریکاست. اون به تازگی همسرش، رئیس جمهور رو از دست داده. همسرش در کنار کاخ سفید ترور شده. رئیس جمهور جدید چون مجرده از نیلی درخواست میکنه هنوز سمتش رو به عنوان بانوی اول حفظ بکنه چون اون به شدت بین مردم محبوبه.

نیلی اما خسته شده. اون که به عنوان دختر معاوت رئیس جمهور سابق هم بزرگ شده از اسن قوانین دست و پا گیر خسته شده. از این که هر جا میره بادیگاردا و مامورا همراهش باشن خسته شده. دوست داره به تنهایی بره خرید. طعم زندگی به عنوان یه شخص معمولی رو بچشه.

نیلی طی نقشه ای از کاخ سفید فرار میکنه. اون می دپنه دیر یا زود اون رو پیدا میکنن و فرصت کمی داره پس تصمیم میگیره بی هدف برای خودش در سرتاسر امریکا بگرده و از این گردش یک نفره لذت ببره.

مت جوریک با فوت همسر سابقش که چندین سال پیش ازش جدا شده متوجه میشه که دو فرزند همسر سابقش که مشخص نیست از چه کسانی هستن رو فامیل مت رو به عنوان پدر یدک میکشن. اون که اصلا زیر بار این مسئولیت دوست نداره بره تصمیم میگیره از شرشون خلاص بشه.

لوسی دختر بزرگتر که چهارده سال داره میگه با مادربزرگش صحبت کرده و قرار بیاد دنبالشون و سرپرستی اونا رو به عهده بگیره. مت هم چون میدونه توی پرورشگاه با بچه ها چقدر بد رفتار میکنن تصمیم میگیره چند روزی ازشون نگهداری بکنه تا مادربزرگشون بیاذ.

خیلی دوستش داشتم و مثل همیشه عالی بود. بانو کلا کتاب بد ندارن.
