Stay out of trouble, they said. Lay low until things blow over, they suggested. Sound advice for Senior Medical Examiner Dr. Beckett Campbell, considering he was found hovering over the body of accused serial killer Craig Sloan, a bloody rock in his hand. Sound advice, all of it. Problem is, even a vacation in the Virgin Gorda isn't far enough for Beckett to escape his demons. It doesn't help that there's something strange happening on the island, something that has to do with bitter drinks and bikinis. Something that involves drug smuggling and a secret room full of women... women who are gagged and bound. Beckett would like nothing more than to heed the sage advice of his colleagues, but he's not like them; he’s no ordinary Medical Examiner. Beckett has his own set of rules, guiding principles that take him places that the law simply refuses to go. But this comes at a price. Every time Beckett acts on his urges, he leaves a little piece of himself behind... a piece of his soul that he can never get back. Scroll up to grab your copy of the medical thriller BITTER END now! True story: I used to cut up bodies. No, not for fun, you sickos–for work. After reaching the age of majority and fleeing the clutches of an overprotective mother, I went to university like a good boy.
More than a decade later and an alphabet soup of letters after my name, I found myself looking down the double-chamber of a microscope at an eyeball. Feeling ironically introspective, I decided that it was time for a change.
After seventy plus novels and more than a million copies sold, I’ve found my true calling, one that also includes a plethora of letters. Hopefully you see something in my catalog that you like, something to feast your eyes on.
I also have two spooky podcasts that are appropriate for ALL ages, so long as you like to be scared: P.T. Logan's Five Minutes of Terror and Camp Fear. Both are FREE and available on all podcast platforms. For MATURE audiences, I've created two fiction podcasts, Nightmare Residue and Bad Priest.

My interest in medical fiction drew me to this series. This first book starring Dr. Beckett has me wondering how he conducts his medical practice while working for NYPD. He seems to find trouble at every turn and is truly a character. I found out he first appeared in the Drake series, and I plan to read that series also. As for this story, there was humor as well as "whatareyoudoing" moments, lol. Looking forward to reading more of this series.
Wasn't so impressive--boring and a slug. I will give another book or two of this writer's a go.
I did get a big ⏰ wakeup call regarding "little stomach pills," AKA, proton-pump inhibitors solely due to this IMPORTANT story of GIRLS OVERDOSING AND WITH FOAM POURING FROM THEIR MOUTHS! The little stomach pills many women commonly take to prevent heartburn, together with any or every other substance can EASILY CAUSE OVERDOSE DEATH!! 🤔 So thankful for this message. Why did my goofy doctor not come right out and grab my by the shoulders and shout this in my face??!! I rarely drink and don't do drugs, but I'm really upset about so many girls overdosing so easily here, in this remote place, likely never stopping to hear this message!! We have the highest OD rate per capita in Canada, possibly the world, way before the Plandemic!
This continues right where Beckett was leaving NYC for a mandated vacation. Chase Adams had slipped a note to him. It told him what he needed to say to not be charged with murdering the psycho. That psycho had murdered a whole list of other people. Beckett caught him while Suzan and Drake were in the house that was burning up and he was hoping to kill them too.
Beckett is definitely off kilter after his killing. He went overboard with the kill but if my friends were on fire and he killed my student and many others who’s not to say our mind would just freak out and pound his too.
Beckett is the first killer character that I have ever really liked. He is twisted and totally not the norm at all for a Medical Examiner but that is what makes him great! He is killing people that have killed others.
I loved that Screech showed up and he definitely knows what Beckett is doing. Just amazing they are being played and I look forward to seeing what happens with all of them. I love how the characters intertwine with the other series. It is one of my favorite things when the author brings bits and pieces from their other books. Keep it up!! And keep writing!
This was meant to be a holiday but things just got out of hand. Dr Beckett Campbell knows that he is meant to keep a low profile after the death of a murderer. He did what he had as no one was going to get justice for nine-year-old Bentley Thomas and yes he took matters into his own hands but so be it. Now he is drinking and looking at the lovely ladies but everything changes when he gets involves with the wrong one. Now that Screech has rocked up he knows that something is up and he knows that he is here to look out for him as he knows what Beckett did. Screech just wants to get his job done and not spend too much time with Beckett as he saw what he did to that man. Beckett became someone else and he doesn't know if he can trust him again. So when they are invited to a luxury yacht they are all for it as this is Screech target but everything goes belly up when drugs and women are involved. They both are able to escape but Beckett has been set up and he knows that he only has one chance at running. Can they both get out of here alive? A good read.
This is like a prequel to the Beckett Series and we can finally understand what happened in Virgin Gorda - something that annoyed me on "Organ Donor", the constant references to this trip! The idea is for him to relax the murder of Craig Sloan (Dr. Beckett first victim - something I also don't know how it went, because it happened in Damien Drake series), but unfortunately things don't go as he expected... waking up naked in a bed with two dead girls (with great asses) while the police is banging on the door, well that could be messy!
It's the first time I read this one (to be honest hadn't notice it exist last time when I read the first three installments) and I really enjoy it - it gives you much more character build on Beckett and it's really a great thriller, the story is awesome (the explanation of the tittle "Bitter End" is superb!), quick paced, sometimes scary, sometimes funny... you'll have a blast (if this is your genre, of course!). Definitely read it before #1 "Organ Donor"!
i'm torn between rating it a 3 stars or a 3.5 stars.
I'm not really a thriller/mystery reader so I really do not know what to base my rating on. Simply the vibe, I would say a 3 stars read.
The main character is so weird in the begginig and then he gets weirder. And I kind off loved it. I'm deffinitely going to read the rest of the series and see my thoughts on it.
For the pace, I feel like this book was quite fast paced and it was what I needed to stay up late. I enjoyed the rythme of the story.
The plot was quite predictable but for a novella i feel like it was written in a good way (kinda) anyway, grabbed this book durring a stuff your kindle day and I'm happy about it since I wanted to get into thrillers and polas and all of that.
I already knew Beckett from reading the Detective Damien Drake series and I absolutely love him. He always adds humour and snarkiness. This particular story was also familiar but I didn't know the whole thing. Good ole Screech and taking his damn pictures. His naivety and "innocence" are so apparent in this short story. Again, I also know Screech very well from the Damien Drake series. If you haven't read it I recommend doing so. All the characters in all the series (Drake, Adams, Campbell and Wilde) that is. From reading the series I know what's in store for Beckett but I'm not saying a word here. Anyways, I enjoyed this short story and I'm looking forward the rest of the series.
Beckett a cop was sent away for awhile after they say he killed a man who they were arresting. He comes across an old friend who used to be a cop also. He told Beckett he was hired to find this man's stolen yacht for him.. They eventually found it and things really got turned upside down for these two. They got involved in a lot of things they didn't intend on finding. Girls captive in the hidden room in the bottom of the yacht, being drugged and drunk. What was going on and who was the real bad guys?
I met this character, Dr. Bob Beckett in the Damien Drake series, and I knew this story happened because of reading the other series. It was good to read what actually went down when Screech went looking for this yacht. Now onto Organ Donor. I expect a great story there.
I started reading Patrick Logan with the Chase Adams series and then came across his Facebook page where he listed all of his books in the order they should be read. So glad I did. I really feel like I know these characters. Can’t wait to see what happens next!
I was wondering if I missed a book in the Drake series & thought maybe it was in the Beckett series but it wasn’t.. ( they are both awesome reads.. along with the Chase series, by the way) . I finally found it!! Like the rest of the series it is awesome! I love how characters from different series shows up in each other’s series!!
I found this book in a promotional by another author, glad I did! Now I've found another author I can really enjoy!. This was a fast paced, medical, serial killer story. Loved the characters. As I said, another great author to follow!!!
A well written short story full of mystery and action. Well filled out characters , some good, some bad, some you'll just have to figure out yourself. A fantastic beginning to what should be a great series.
So glad I discovered this author. There are many different characters that show up in different series. I'd prefer to read them in order but I have no idea what that order is! But I am really enjoying this series with Dr. Beckett. Great character development and the humor is spot on! Write more!
Loved the books! Patrick Logan know how to write! So many different series and so many characters that interact with each others ! You keep writing! And we will keep reading
Wasn't t expecting it so crude, but it goes well in the story. Fast pace, well written, not overdone. Some characters are a little out of " focus" , but it doesn't t affect the thrill of the story. Thank you I enjoyed it a lot.
