I heard that this novel was a compilation of Marcia Lynn McClure's earliest stories, so I was fully expecting them to be....well, not quite as good as her newer books. An author takes awhile to be great, right? Wow--I was definitely proven wrong!! These three stories are every bit as good as her newer stuff. Full of romantic tension, handsome men, beautiful gals. I loved every minute of these three stories and didn't want them to end!

The Unobtainable One
I love this story and the history behind it. For those who don’t know, this is the first story Marcia wrote, for a close friend of hers. How lucky to have a friend write a book for you, what an honor. This is a sweet regency-type story. Annette goes to work as a governess for Lord Barrett, taking care of his young sister. There is plenty packed into this little gem, we have a ball, a robbery, an attack, an attempted seduction and a sweet happily ever after. I do think her heroes got better as she wrote and the romance could have been developed a little more. But, if you take the story for what it was and its intended purpose it’s just a fun romp and a pleasant way to pass some time.
In the author’s notes she mentions this is her least favorite story she’s written, which is crazy because it is one of my favorites. Maybe I just have a soft spot for regencies, but I really enjoyed the overall plot for this one. It’s a quick read, but it’s full of charm and even a small love-triangle. I liked that there was some conflict in their relationship that had to be overcome. Cute story, likable characters and great kissing! I hope that one day little Andrea will get her own story.
The General’s Ambition
I always have mixed feelings for this one. I’m a sucker for marriage of convenience stories; in this case Renee’s father is dying and asks Roque to marry his young daughter, but not consummate the marriage until she is eighteen (which is in about ten months). Renee thinks Roque was forced into marriage by both their fathers and Roque thinks she hates him for being like his father. There is some good chemistry and tension between the two. Roque’s father is a total creeper though; he is obsessed with Renee becoming pregnant. Like totally obsessed and that’s the only thing he talks about, well that and sleeping with Renee himself. He’s supposed to be the villain, so I guess in that respect he lives up to his role. I think this one would be better as a full-length novel where the story and characters could really be developed.
I love reading the author’s notes at the end of her books to see which parts were inspired by real events
Indebted Deliverance
This is different than Marcia’s other books; it has more of the old Gothic Romance feel to it. Race rescues Chalyce from a kidnapping and is forced to shelter her for the winter in his home. So, it was a fun setting, but I think Race was just a little too mean to Chalyce, at least in the beginning. I get why he is broody and gruff, he has a disturbing past The first time I read it I was surprised the gruesome turn the story takes, not at all like Marcia’s other books. It still has its McClure Charm though and was overall an enjoyable read.

Overall, I gave 5 stars because it's fun to see how Marcia got her start and I enjoyed her Authors notes. Seperatetly, I give 3 stars to The Unobtainable One, 4.5 stars for The General's Ambition, and 5 stars to Indebted Deliverance. LOVED Indebted Deliverance (Marcia, Please make a longer version of it someday!)
The Unobtainable One was a cute story and neat that it was Marcia's very first, and how she made her start, but it definetely wasn't my favorite. I'm not sure how it was lacking, but I just know it didn't make me think about it all day and feel giddy over it like her other books do.
The General's Ambition was an enjoyable read. The ending with the general I thought I had figured out what was going to happen, and then I was like, oh I guess not, and then, bam, it did! Liked how I got thrown off like that!
Indebted Deliverace was REALLY, REALLY GOOD for one of Marcia's first works ever. I read it all in one night even though I didn't start reading until midnight! I just couldn't put it down! I hope one day Marcia will make this story into a longer version because it is so good but too short and a little bit lacking in info. I was expecting to read a fun romance story. Well, I ended up reading three. What made this book so enjoyable is that the author gave us a little peek into her life as she first got started writing romance stories. I loved reading her notes after each story. It is almost a story within a a story. I loved how she shared about her hero's revealing their muscular chests, as a way to let her friends know that she is thinking of them. Too funny!

Man I really enjoyed these novellas! I totally had school to do this morning but this distracted me all day...
The heroes were great and even for these being Marcia's first stories, they were just as exciting and romantic if a little shorter. The last two are tied for favorite of them but the first one was very sweet as well. I highly recommend this to any who love her other books!

I've already read the ebooks so I started on the author's notes. Loved them! Great book for those who already love Marcia's books. Don't start with this one. Read her other books first to fully appreciate this one. Included are the first 3 stories Marcia wrote.

I really enjoyed these 3 books! They were wonderful, and I look forward to re-reading them soon. I really liked reading about what inspired Marcia's writing. I always love her authors notes at the end of her books.

These happened to be the first 3 e-books I ever read of Marcia's, and after re-reading them I remembered how I felt the first time I read them. They began a fun journey of sighing and giggling when her sweet kissing scenes come up.

Macia does not give herself enough credit for these short stories. If I started out writing this good well I'm not, but these are great. You will love reading how she started. I just love them all.

I loved these three stories! I will read them over and over! Marcia has such a great talent for bringing a story to life. I feel like I am their and rooting for her charcters, she is so talented.

This was a book of three short , sweet and of course clean love stories. As with all McClures books, they leave me with a big fat smile on my face.

Deliciously predictable. Even though these are her first 3 novellas, they are as good as the rest. My favorite part were the author notes though - I had to laugh out loud several times!

I have been on hold at the library for over 2 months to get this book! Can't wait to read her premiere novellas.
I really enjoyed this composition of the author's 3 premiere novels. Each of them is roughly 100 pages. I liked seeing where the author began in her writing. My favorite of the 3 is "The Unobtainable One" which happens to be the first one. It was sweet and romantic. "The General's Ambition" had a very formidable character in the general that I found a little frightening. "Indebted Deliverance" had an interesting twist to it and was the first of her books that I found to have a rather graphic scene of violence.

The Unobtainable One: I loooove books that are about a governess going to a big house/castle/manor and falling in love with the master. One of my favorite authors, Victoria Holt, has many books about this theme, luckily! So I was soo happy to found this ebook FREE! on Amazon. So bad the story is so short, it doesn't let the relationship between all the characters to develop smoothly. Sometimes it appeared too rushed for my taste.. especially the relationship between Annette and Andrea... The little girl started to love her governess right away. Also, Andrea, being just 6-years-old, behaved too grown-up.
But despites this negative points, I really liked the story. It was very romantic, very clean. But the kisses Annette and Gareth shared... WOW! So hot... Even if I disagreed with some of Gareth's actions (like kissing her in front of her rival! It was kind of humiliating for her IMO), he was a hot hero, and interesting too, because to me, he was kind of bipolar: one moment very tender; next, the personification of rage.
The General´s Ambition: the story in this one develops more smoothly than in the first one. Nothing seems rushed. This has kind of suspense with the General wanting to rape the heroine, Renee. The novella was incredible, i devoured it. Roque is another incredible hero, handsome and so gentleman! He waits like 1 year to consummates the marriage, just because he made a vow to Renee´s dead father, and then, because he thought Renee wouldn´t want him, or at least, until she declare she loved him. WOW WOW, what a man. I didn´t like his name so much, but the story behind the name that Marcia Lynn tells is funny.
The Indebted Deliverance: this one is my least favorite between the 3. But that doesn´t mean it is not well written. Only that I feel very sorry for Race, the hero. He made girls to be obsessed with him! Even Chalyce, the heroine. And despite learning his story later, I think he was rather rude to Chalyce, even if she deserved it sometimes (she was kind of meddling IMO). This novella has certain Jane Eyre-ish aspects, as why Race is so temper, a woman in his past, the heroine coming to his home to change his life, the mystery around him and having servants to support him... Also, I did not like the names: Race and Chalyce! But anyway, that does not let the story to be less appealing.
So I am really happy to have read a book from Marcia Lynn. I am pretty sure she would be one of my favorites clean-romance writer. I am willing to read more books from her, and more about her heroes with a "massive chest" as she mentioned in her notes... that was very funny!

He waits like 1 year to consummates the marriage, just because he made a vow to Renee´s dead father, and then, because he thought Renee wouldn´t want him, or at least, until she declare she loved him. WOW WOW, what a man. I didn´t like his name so much, but the story behind the name that Marcia Lynn tells is funny.
The Indebted Deliverance: this one is my least favorite between the 3. But that doesn´t mean it is not well written. Only that I feel very sorry for Race, the hero. He made girls to be obsessed with him! Even Chalyce, the heroine. And despite learning his story later, I think he was rather rude to Chalyce, even if she deserved it sometimes (she was kind of meddling IMO). This novella has certain Jane Eyre-ish aspects, as why Race is so temper, a woman in his past, the heroine coming to his home to change his life, the mystery around him and having servants to support him... Also, I did not like the names: Race and Chalyce! But anyway, that does not let the story to be less appealing.
So I am really happy to have read a book from Marcia Lynn. I am pretty sure she would be one of my favorites clean-romance writer. I am willing to read more books from her, and more about her heroes with a "massive chest" as she mentioned in her notes... that was very funny!

3 of the first short stories that Marcia has written for her sister-in law and friends. Her cutting-teeth books. The Unobtainable one is about a goveness who falls in love with her employer who is the brother of her charge. Annette Jordon and Lord Gareth Barrett try to deny their attraction, Gareth's because he doesn't trust beautiful woman and Annette because of her social status. Love concurs the barriers.
The general's ambition, I didn't like as much because the general is so evil trying to further his posterity line with "beautiful offspring" he plans to wed and marry a mere girl and use her for his purpose. His son, Rogue Montan thwarts his plans by making a promise to Renee's dying father to marry and protect her. Rogue secretly loved her and was just waiting for her to grow old enough.
Indebted Deliverance:a Race Trevelian is a handsome recluse that saves Chalyce from her attackers one snowy night. She ends up in his house for the winter months as the pass is closed because of the snow. Race has a troubled pass of guilt that he holds onto the weight of...the suicide of a woman he was courting. Chalyce breaks the walls down that allow him to see that the woman's demise were of her own doing and her evil sister's jealousy not of his own doing. He realizes this when Chalyce is kidnapped as the evil sister tries to extract her revenge for Race's not loving her.

This "book" contains 3 short stories from her early work. Also, as with all her books, she included her extra information after each story. I found the first book to be pretty good. The second one I didn't like as much and the third, I felt was better.
The first book is described as the authors least favorite book she ever wrote. Honestly, it was really similar to Jane Eyre. Even with it being her least favorite work ever, I felt it was reasonably good.
The second book was okay. This was a bit wild for McClure but she explains that in her author notes. The reason that I didn't love this one is because I got sick of the banter between the heroine and the hero about how she better be prepared for "the night" because it's coming. Overall, this book was the darkest yet that I have read by McClure.
The last story was good. I liked the mystery of the book. I also liked how the heroine and the hero met and got to know each other. The other characters in the book were also enjoyable to get to know. Because the last book is more original, better written and had a better story line, I think I liked this the best.
All still worth reading and enjoyable.

Three great shorts stories in this one!!
1. The Unobtainable one...Annette Jordan falls for her boss, the older brother a young girl she is hired to tutor and govern. Of course they end up together. :)
2. The General's Ambition...actually named for the hero's father (the General) who is a nasty, nasty man intent on furthering his bloodline by any means...including his son's new wife. Of course, he does not succeed, although he comes dangerously close.
3. Indebted Deliverance: He saves her from wicked men, and she winters over at his home because of the snow that has blocked her way home. Over the course of the winter, she falls in love with him, but he has many demons to battle, some of which reside in his home and call him friend. Those demons come calling and he has to save her again, all the while trying to save himself. Of course she helps him and all ends well. This was a bit gruesome for my tastes, but still a good read. There was one scene that had me in a fit of giggles, and that scene tends to make up for the gruesomeness of the rest...a little. :P

This is an anthology of Marcia's first books, three in total. Sweet simple reads. It's fun to see how far she's come and how some elements of her books have been with her since the beginning.
I enjoyed Indebted Deliverance the most and agree with another reviewer that it could easily have been expanded into a longer novel. In other book we read of a hero with baggage. Race REALLY has some serious baggage here! This is the kind of stuff that would justifiably make a man go crazy. Wow. It was a believable relationship. The other stories weren't bad, The General's Ambition had a crazy father in it and a very chivalrous hero.
Fun stories that make me think I should give my hand to writing as well. :)

This anthology is for true Marcia fans to see where it all started. Marcia-obsessed readers (like myself) can spot elements of her later stories woven in these novellas, and these tales hint at later Marcia greatness. I would read this collection once you have an appreciation of Marcia and her writing style through reading some of her more popular clean romances.
While these are fun reads for fans, I'm impressed with how much Marcia's writing has developed since these early first works. She has really honed her craft over the years and has become my favorite author for sweet, fluffy romances that make you sigh and smile.

Re-read April 2015... I liked it better this time around, but still didn't love it. 3.5 stars
I'm just glad I didn't read this collection BEFORE all of Marcia's other awesome books...
THE UNOBTAINABLE ONE- I just wanted it to end. I thought it was ridiculous a 6 year old spoke like a 40 year old woman. I didn't care if the heroine got the man... It was obvious this was MLM's first work... Marcia even said it was her least favorite.
THE GENERAL'S AMBITION- Better than The Unobtainable One... I liked Roque's name. The story was just "eh" to me. The general was a perv.
INDEBTED DELIVERANCE- There's a shirtless wood chopping scene so that was hot. This was the best of the 3 in my opinion...

Okay I have to say that I've become a little obsessed with this woman's books. It's not that they are great literature or even very original, but reading them makes me smile. They are clean and there is a lot of kissing (which I like). I've read many of her books now and they are very similar in characters and plot, but just fun reads for me. The romance is cheesy, and there are editorial errors that bug me, but for some reason I want to read them all. So if you are in the mood for a clean, fun, quick read and won't be put off by the cheese, then get a hold of her books.

I am a huge McClure fan... her books are like a breath of fresh air. I never have to worry about being surprised by R rated scenes the way that I am occasionally in other popular books I've read. She draws me in right away with a captivating story and interesting characters. And then there are the kissing scenes... she definitely knows how to write a good romantic scene (yet, always clean!). This is a collection of the first three books she's written and they were fun to read (she was a great author right from the start!).

These were very typical Marcia McClure stories. Always a great romance but not fantastic writing. This book contains three short novellas. I am not a fan of novellas, they aren't long enough to give any kind of character developement or sustanance to a story. I think they are nice when you just need a quick fluff and that is it. These stories had an immense ammount of grammatical errors, I have no idea how it passed the editors. So, yes she gave a sweet romance but that was it.
