The gang is helping to build a playgound. But is it haunted? There is a full moon and howling at night! Zoinks! Only Scooby-Doo can solve this mystery.
Gail Herman, formerly a children's book editor in New York City, has written picture books, easy-to-reads, and chapter books, including many titles in the Who Was/What Was series. She lives in Newton, Massachusetts with her family.
If the meddling kids figure out the howling at the playground maybe they could help North Las Vegas too. A lot of howling going on at the La Quinta on Nellis and Las Vegas BLVD. Honestly what would North Las Vegas be without the Howling? God Bless.
Personally I was not a total fan of this book. I knew right away that the wolves were fake fans. I also can’t believe that the wolves looked exactly like scooby but none of them were naked scooby. And then old girl Edna kept them? Definitely some sketchy situation going on.

The gang were building a playground for the neighbourhood when they came across an old lady named Edna Spring, who didn't want the loud noises that the construction of the playground was causing, and boy did she have a good reason. She said even with her not wanting the playground near her house, there was also a danger. The danger being werewolves in the community. With that said, the gang went home that day and in the morning returned. As always, scooby and shaggy were hungry, even at 9:00 in the morning. After eating and working throughout the day, it was finally night time. Then came the howling, non-stop "Awooooooo"'s Scared, as per usual, scooby and shaggy start running in terror. But then the problem is exposed for actually just being a small litter of puppies. Because of the fact that they were puppies, they offered Edna the position as owner for these puppies. Even despite her being a little grumpy, she happily answered "of course!" The end.
My 6yr enjoyed rewarding this book, scooby and the gang are working on a building a playground but an old lady tell them, that they can't build it in the location they started because it's haunted by werewolves. She tells them how at night she hears these mysterious howls. So the gang decides to stay the night at the playground and then they hear the howls as well. They go to investigate and find out something they weren't expecting to find. To find out they find you gotta read this book.
A lady doesn't want them to build a playground there.. she says the place in haunted by werewolves. They decide to investigate. It turns out there is howling, but by pups who are cold and hungry. The lady is delighted by the pups and thinks the playground would be a suitable home for them.
I read this book with the kids. We really loved it and got hooked on the story. We were so curious to find out what was making the werewolf noise. Finally, it turned out to be puppies. The kids were laughing and enjoying it so much. The graphics in the book were amazing, and the text was also clean and easy to read.
When the gang try to help build a playground next to a ladies house she tries to scare them away saying that there are werewolves there. They decide to hang out in the playground that night to see if they can find the source, and by the end the mystery is solved.
This is a purchase from Scholastic from kids school book order, and part of a 10 pack of Scooby books I bought. We love Scooby and the gang so we enjoy this short easy readers. In my opinion its good for a quick bedtime story or read alone. And I admit I have to read Scooby's comments in his voice, lol.
This is a fun book in the Scooby-Doo! Readers series. It's good for beginning readers, especially if they are reading with an adult. The story is not scary and the narrative is a little challenging, but not too hard. And the illustrations are big and bright, typical of Scooby books.
March 2022 update: I purchased a 12-book set (the Scooby-Doo! Read & Solve series) and read each one again.
"Howling on the Playground, Scooby-Doo" is a mystery game written by Gail Herman. The book is at the second grade reading level. The Mystery Inc gang is helping build a playground, but a lady who lives near by does not want the noise of children playing. There is a rumor of werewolves being in the park and the gang decides to investigate. This book could be used when practicing inferencing in whole group or individual instruction. There was no content concerns for this book at the level.
The kids are helping to build a playground. A woman living nearby does not want it built and tells them that there are werewolves in the playground. The gang stays and finds puppies, which the woman adopts naming the puppies after the gang.
A level 2 reader that's a great story and fun to read. It's great when they take our favorite and beloved characters and turn them into stories that beginner readers can get into that also encourage them to read on their own. This one's no exception. A great addition to any kid's library.

This was a Scooby Doo book that the younger children would possibly enjoy. There is no monsters or scary things throughout it like some of the other stories. The only thing 'scary' is the howling noise in the dark on the playground. It ended up being puppies and not a werewolf!
This one was not nearly as entertaining for the adult reader as some others I've seen. A child could certainly enjoy reading this one, but the parent reading it to the child won't have as much fun.
