There's a fuel bandit on the loose in Radiator Springs. Not only does this mean that the cars will soon be running on fumes, but it also makes it impossible for the town's postal trucks to deliver everyone's Christmas letters to Santa Car! Mater's determined to get his letter to Santa, though. Luckily, Fillmore has just enough of his special Christmas gasoline for Mater and Lightning McQueen to make the trek to the North Pole, while the rest of the town investigates the mysterious missing fuel. But when Mater finally meets Santa Car, he learns that Christmas might actually need to be cancelled this year...unless Mater and McQueen can save the day! This 48-page picture book with foil stamping and embossing on the cover is sure to become a Christmas classic!
Alison Murray studied textile and interactive media design. After graduating, she moved to London where she did a variety of jobs, including selling books and designing rugs, before cofounding a successful interactive media company. She now mainly works as an illustrator and author of picture books, but still dabbles with interactive media and web design. She has published several books, including Hickory Dickory Dog. A delightful and cute little cars tale put to paper, truly this book gave a lot in its relatively few pages. From chick stealing reindeer plows and magic fuel to mater meet Santa car and his elves to hand deliver the necessary letters straight to the big man to avoid everyone getting dirty filters in their stockings. Just a fun little starter read.
Mater Saves Christmas by Kiel Murray and illustrated by The Disney Storybook Artists This book has a lot of bad things happening, so Christmas Car can't come. Someone stole all of the gas, so no one could go anywhere, but Fillmore the Hippie Van made some fuel. The Police car came and told everyone all the gas stations were empty. So Mater got ready to go, but Lightning McQueen wanted someone with him. Everyone pooled their gas and got McQueens car winterized, so off they went to the Northpole and when they got there Santa Car said there might not be Christmas, because Santa's Reindeer Snowmobiles were missing. Santa told Mater that the fuel was special and made his Reindeer Snowmobiles FLY. So Santa filled Mater and McQueen with special fuel and they flew home. They had found the fuel bandits, Chick and his pals, but Reindeer were coralled and couldn't get out. But Santa Car, Mater and McQueen helped roundup all the bandits and released the Reindeer snowmobiles. So Mater Saved Christmas.

The Radiator Springs crew learns that someone has stolen gas all throughout the valley and there’s no way to get their Christmas letters to Santa. Mater decides he’s up for a challenge and sets off to find Santa himself-only to learn of another theft! With help from his friends in Radiator Springs, Mater solves the mystery and all is restored in time for Christmas. Cars fans will enjoy seeing their favorite characters in a Christmas story, but overall this is not a book that wowed me. The story was a little confusing and all over the place, it does not have the best writing. The illustrations are cute, and my favorite part are the endpapers which show Christmas cards from each of the main cars.
This is a cute and fun book. I like the art style; it's an interesting blend between detailed and simplistic, with plenty to look at while still remaining cartoony and fun. The writing isn't bad, either.
The story does feel a little disjointed as its being told but then it all ties together in the end. Not to say it doesn't leave me with questions and some things felt like they were done out of order (Mater and Lightning know the identity of the thieves even though they left before the investigation uncovered the truth, for one), but it's still a fun story. It feels almost like the script was longer and then it had to be cut down/condensed, though I could be wrong about that.
Overall, it's a fun holiday story that feels a little disjointed, but as long as you don't question things too much, it's great. The art style is fun and interesting as well.
The plot is riddled with out of character actions, there's in-universe inconsistency and there's even a spelling mistake. None of it mattered, though, as my son pointed out they're cars so he was happy.

My Review: This book was a little too much for Munchkin, we had to read it in three sittings. It didn't capture his interest after the excitement over seeing Mater wore off. I did have fun reading it and the clever little changes to the carols to fit the Cars theme. I think in a few years this might be more up Munchkin's alley, but for now we will listen to the readalong CD for better effects.
We're still catching up on all the Christmas books we had checked out at the library...haha. This one was fun just because of the fact that it's Mater. The story wasn't anything spectacular, but the character are ones we've grown to love. I found myself reading in the character accents also - so I felt like the dialogue was done pretty well. The pictures were all done with soft edges which made it feel a little warmer. Overall a decent Christmas read.
Cute Christmas story about Mater saving Christmas. No deep message, just a cute story with all the Cars characters. Darling play on words. My daughter has been singing "All I want for Christmas is my two front tires, my two front tires" all week. My daughters favorite part of the story are the little car elves and Santa car.
Sort of like the Grinch, but without the redeeming message. This is straight up consumerism. But if you have little boys who love Cars stuff, this is cute. Mater helps Santa Car save Christmas: what's not to like?
Very fun book. One of my new Christmas favorites. I loved the way they adopted the Radiator Springs characters to fit the Christmas theme (flying reindeer snowmobiles to get Santa Car from place to place for one).
This quick story features the characters from the movie Cars. Mater and Lightning McQueen visit Santa Cars at the North Pole (Historic Route 25), and when they learn that Santa Cars' reindeer's special gasoline is stolen, Mater and Lightning McQueen help Santa recover it.

I'm not a huge fan of the "Cars" movie, but our girls like it a lot. This is a fun story about saving Christmas, with all of the main characters from the movie. Our girls thought it was fun.
Mater and Lightning travel all the to Santa Car to get fuel for Radiator Springs. Lightning beats Chick in a race and Chick heads to jail for stealing all the gas among other crimes.
