Fated to Royalty #1

The Alpha's Fated Encounter

Rate this book
I walk into the bar with my pack, and I scent her straight away.

She’s lying behind the counter with blood trailing from an injury to her head. My desire to protect her stuns me almost as much as her beauty.

But it’s the smell of her blood that stuns me the most—it’s something not quite human.
When she wakes up, her fear tells me all I need to know. She definitely thinks she’s mortal.

I choose to disagree.

I make my pack watch over her while she heals, and she’s surprised I want to protect her. It's obvious she hasn't had good experiences with shifters in the past, but I intend to show her I'm different.

I also need time to find out the truth about her, including why she's being hunted by our kind for reasons I’m yet to understand.

All I know is that whoever this woman really is, she’s special. And she's mine...

This is my first time reading this author, and it won't be my last. Goodness gracious, this book has it all! Fated mates, sexy times, and an underlying romantic suspense story that is fantastic. This had so many twists and turns, and I can't wait until the following books to get more of Maddy and Nico. Not to mention a badass heroine that I immediately adored. I'm also secretly shipping Sebastian and Abi.

The Alpha's Fated Encounter was such a good read. The story is told from Maddy's and Nico's perspectives. I liked Maddy, she's smart, kind, and confident, she owns her own business and loves her parents. Maddy starts off sweet but as the story goes on she gets a little darker. Not that I blame her after being attacked and her whole life gets upended, I can understand that the stress is getting to her. However, she stays strong when lesser people would have broken.

Nico is the alpha of the Lorenzo pack and he's a great alpha, as well as a great guy. Nico is kind, caring, patient, protective, and steadfast. Maddy is so lucky that she has Nico as a mate, he's there for her, supporting her in any way he can and giving her a place she can turn to. However, after all the crap that they go through the pressure is starting to take its toll on both but at least they have each other.

Roxie did a great job with the detailed history she gave. The story she told was freaking epic, the stuff of legends, and ingrained it into the story so well, everything just connected. I also like her take on shifters, the bloodlines, hybrids, and talks of werewolves versus wolf shifters. The bigotry that not only humans have against wolf shifters but wolf shifters against hybrids as well. That detail helps build the world a little more.

The story is absolute chaos from the beginning, with non-stop problems and danger around every corner, it was pure excitement. With rival packs, dangerous royals, powerful bloodlines, hidden treasure, assassins, and a history so crazy shifters thought it was a myth, all made for compelling entertainment. How could I not love it?

The Alpha's Fated Encounter was just the first book in the Fated to Royalty series, things are far from finished with the royals. Nico and Maddy have more hard times ahead and face even greater challenges in Fated to Her Alpha Protector, the next book in the series.

There was too much repetition in this read for me. I felt like we kept going over the same topic just form different point of views. Disappointing since the world was interesting and had a lot of potential.

Not for me.

Happy reading,

the horrible, terrible, no good story

I was looking for a light read about fantasy characters and a little romance. What I got was a frustrating and, at times ridiculous story. First, I believe that this was one of those books that you pay for by the chapter. This means that it is overly wordy and poorly edited. At least a third of the book should be completely cut out of novel. There is a repetition of info ad nauseum in this book. There are simple grammatical and spelling errors.. There are several poorly written plot devices.; that include two deus ex machina devices; where basically a character swoops in and solves an incredibly complicated and impossible situation with god like knowledge. (And that wasn’t an intentional character’s trait) The timeline is off putting.. By this I mean, the author had a hard time keeping the timeline linear and believable. The villain in the novel is cartoonish and 2 dimensional. She might as well have been Mr. burns from the Simpsons. And then there is the ending- the last quarter of the book was better action wise, but ridiculous on a believablity scale. The author wrote about Europe and has never been there, and researched it poorly. The ending is open and ends on a “cliff hanger”, the author should have just wrapped the novel up in a couple more chapters and completed the story. The sex scenes were ok, but lacked any kind of variety. And if you are looking at a sex scene to ridiculous plot ratio as a golden mean for this story- There were not enough sex scenes to endure the drudgery of digging through this novel to glean anything from this mediocre love story.

Eh

It started ok then got repetitive and well... Boring. Way too many long drawn out conversations and the same things over and over. A twist or two but not enough to save it.

What I read of this unfortunately wasn't good, the writing is very simplistic and feels somewhat juvenile. The characters are very one-dimentional in both there personalities and also the interactions between them also felt surface level there's no heart to this and I felt little connection to anything here. I hate leaving low ratings but this one just missed the mark completely and it looks like it's a long book so that's me out. I also noticed after I decided to not finish this that this is actually the second book I've tried from this author. I didn't realise until now and I also had an identical reaction to that one as well so it looks like this author is not one for me.

Holy shit I need to check a book's page count before starting. I was not prepared for 700 pages. Review to come maybe. Need sleep.

Okay I'm back. So first off, one could call this a cliffhanger, but I would argue that it's just teasing the next book. But it was as annoying as a cliffhanger because this book WAS FUCKING ETERNAL ALREADY. It's soooo long. There's a ton of stuff in here that does not need to be here. If you have this much stuff you want to put in the story, my god just write more books. There was a perfect spot to cut it into two full books. But no, it just went on and on and on. And then this cliffhanger/tease was just too much on top of it.

But was it good? Mostly yeah. I liked the plot and the characters. I'm not a fan of first person flip flopping narratives, but it wasn't weird like being in the head of somebody I couldn't connect with. I'll probably read the next book when I have nothing to do because holy shit I have so much to do that I did not do because I was reading this ENDLESS BOOK.

Y'all it's really long. Carve out some time.

I don’t rate books I do not finish. But ugh…

Funny enough I was interested enough to continue reading until about 40% when the world’s most awful assassin showed up. The assassin commits suicide AFTER telling them everything not before. After he told them who hired him, why they hired him, her family bloodline and why she’s being targeted. Everything!!! THEN commits suicide.

By now I was angry reading anyways, nothing new was happening. The pacing was very slow. The same exact thing was happening again and again but in different places. Why wasn’t it edited better? Anyways, I’m glad to be done with it.

...DNF at 50%.

My friend told me to wait for her to catch up a lil bit, but I'm calling it unless she absolutely falls in love with this cause eyeee am dying.

I'm not sure why paranormal authors feel the need to have SOOOOO many plot points going on all at once/so many plot twists and turns. At what point do we realize that you do not have to completely traumatize your MC to make people connect/feel for them? Cause when I tell you....Maddy shouldn't be standing and traveling or even talking whatsoever. My girl basically went through everything in the book besides meeting the devil himself???? Like goodness.

Also you know a book is ROUGH when theres plot twists and you genuinely just don't care to even see them untwist. 👎

This book is also too long. It DRAGGEDDDDD. Which tells me the end is probably rushed and won't be good, or then I'll have to suffer through the sequel and I just don't think i can do that.

I tried.

By the end of this book I was just pushing through to make it to the ending. The whole book was problem after problem, but not necessarily in an exciting way. I am just glad I finally made it to the end. Did not enjoy this enough to continue the series.

paranormal hero romance

3.5⭐
My favorite part of this book is the timeline. This isn’t insta anything. The pace could be quicker. If Roxie Ray had let us know the passage of time, we didn't need to read about some of the day's events.

I loved that it took Maddy time to deal with her issues. Make it feel more realistic, as much as a paranormal book could.

I loved that Nico was a caring alpha mate, which I appreciate—strength without mean cockiness. I think the “love connection” idea was great. It could use a little more connection. Great potential. I don't mean more about sexual connection, that part was ok. We needed to feel the falling in love part more deeply.

All the ideas in the book were great. The characters were great. It needed better editing or something to move the pace along. It needs something to bring some intensity to the dangers and ramp of the wins.

Way too long -DNF

Good plot, but there wasn't enough of a plot to carry 600 plus pages. I had a hard time connecting with the leads. I didn't feel their love for each other. It was very blah. I got to page 517, and I just couldn't go any further. I was falling asleep.

DNF - giving up on this book. Just could not get into the story. It had promise, but it was so drawn out, and I was bored and way more interested in other books I was reading. It could not keep my interest enough to invest in finishing not only this book but the other 2 listed in the series…

The Alpha’s Fated Encounter by Roxie Ray is a paranormal fated-mate shifter romance novel brimming with mystery, danger, twists, action, and steam. This is the first installment in the series and is definitely a longer read. Maddy is a strong heroine that is intelligent, kind, friendly, and confident. She has a good head on her shoulders and owns her business. Maddy is a likable and relatable heroine (which I find very important) and was so pleased she didn’t crumble under all of the pressures in her life. Nico is a muscular alpha of the Lorenzo shifter pack and utterly swoon-worthy when it comes to his mate. He has to be patient, supportive, and protective of Maddy because danger is lurking around every corner. There were a few times where I felt like the chapters were repetitive and the length of the book could have been shortened, but overall, this was such a great world-building book starter. I loved the twists and and am looking forward to book 2!

Tropes: Paranormal romance, fated mates, shifters

2 Stars - DNF at 23%

Was this written by AI? It's so weird and emotionless? The MCs are polite and idk just so strange. Nothing interesting about them at all and they completely lack personality. The writing is so repetitive and boring. The FMC is being hunted, we find out the reason why very quickly, and now she's just living with the MMC until things get sorted. The issue is they keep having the same conversations over and over again. It's all so soulless somehow..? It's hard to describe, but I don't care about the plot or characters at all.

Not to mention this is like insta-love. It's immediately revealed that the MCs are fated mates, and there's absolutely no build up. The FMC lives with the MMC for protection for about 2 weeks and all of a sudden they are jumping in bed with each other because they feel a vague connection to one another. There's 0 tension or chemistry between the MCs, so I'm just rolling my eyes.

I have been trying to not DNF lately, but this is so bad I can't stick with it.

Oh hell no. This book was LONG as hell!!! So incredibly drawn out with the vilest of characters imaginable. And don't get me started on the ending... I can't stand cliffhangers. This thing droned on forever and after all that time, it wasn't even an ending! So sorry I picked this up and wasted my whole weekend.

DNF at 80%. I just can’t anymore. The further the story proceeded, the more it became bogged down in inanities. And when events did happen, it felt rushed and awkward in pacing.
The characters were fine, but that’s kinda the problem…they were just “fine”. Romance was also just ‘fine’.

I’m always up for some paranormal fiction, and I enjoyed the plot of this story, though it did feel like it dragged at times but I had to know what was going on.

The narrative begins with a woman who finds herself under attack by shifters, and she has no idea why. Fortunately, she is rescued by other shifters, one of whom appears to be her fated mate. However, the question remains: is she truly human, or is there something more to her?

As she enters an entirely new world, the story is rich in tension as she navigates her identity and her newfound status within this society. But why are they trying to kill her? Emotions run high as the characters confront their circumstances, dealing with conflicting feelings of fear, hope, and longing. The presence of strong alpha males adds another layer of complexity to the tale.

Amidst these challenges, there is also an undercurrent of playful interactions. Overall, it’s an interesting blend of love, action, and adventure that keeps you engaged from beginning to end.

I don’t really have time to be writing reviews these days but I just have to say a few words as I am not a person who DNFs books but this? Just was not my cup of tea. The writing was really bad like it didn’t go through the editing or written by AI and then put through another software to make it look like it wasn’t AI. But I’m not fooled. I love the cover and the story could have been much more, but too much doesn’t make sense and too many repetitive scenes just made me yawn.

Btw. I do not understand the almost 4 stars on GD.

Shifter books are different.

I didn't feel the passion in this one and the ending is just so depressing. Its a cliffhanger and I am not sure I can read the next one. This was just okay and a little boring. ,the girl.is a shifter and doesn't know but Nico.finds her and saves her from some bad pack. Of course they fall instantly and the rest of the book isa series of revelations dating back in time.

Enjoyable read , a little slow in spots , but I liked it

This story was a Lot !!!
Lots of angst, lots of questions, lots of discovery, and lots if mystery.
Maddy is a bar owner and she is adopted. She has known this for a while. Her friend had just had one of those DNA tests, that tell you your ancestry . What adopted person doesn't want to know where they really come from ???
Once Maddy gives a sample of her DNA, this story takes off !!
Nico and his friends finally dragged him out for drinks, and they find a horrible scene !!
Maddy and Nico were great people whose lives changed overnight. They have to unravel the mystery of who Maddy is , before the bad people can catch her. Using their wits and several people on their side, this book does have an awful lot of information, that slows the flow somewhat. But hang in there to the explosive ending . It is not a ," cliff hanger ", but there is more story in the next book !!! I thought this book was very enjoyable, if somewhat .....wordy. There were some great action scenes, but I wanted them to get to it already !!! 😃😃
Definitely getting the next book in this series !!

The Alpha’s Fated Encounter is book one in the Fated to Royalty sereis by Roxie Ray.

I read an excerpt that popped up on my Facebook feed. It made the novel sound interesting and of course look at the cover. Very nice!

Unfortunately, this story is slow and nothing happens. I was board, theirs lots of repetition, and the timeline is not linear. We have a mystery, but not even that plot-line of finding out about the heroine and why everyone wants her dead could keep me interested. The whole story is slow.

The Alpha’s Fated Encounter was not the book for me. If the blurb intrigues you, I urge you to give it a shot. Just because it did not work for me does not mean it won’t for you.

Nico has an unexpected reaction to Maddy. He is protective and possessive and doesn't understand why. She is a human. She doesn't feel the bonds the way shifters do.

Maddy was an innocent in the world. After she meets Nico, a voice in her mind says the word mate. She is lost and confused. Someone is after her for reasons unknown. Nico is looking for answers. She is human so she couldn't be his mate. It wasn't possible, was it?

Secrets and lies are revealed, but while a lot of questions are answered, there are still many that are not. In the aftermath, Nico and Maddy must hurry to save not only Maddy's life, but those of the people she loves too.

Regretfully, I DNF'd this book. *sigh* The story really had potential and started off well - I lost about 30% in - no real progress had been made. Maddy's character traits seemed so contradictory - she was strong in convictions & attituded then she took a complete 180.

Maddy was weak & watered down, a damsel in distress. Just didn't fit the story well. I thought we were getting a "kick-ass" heroine at the start, then we didn't.

This book is SO SLOW! And there’s a lot of random mistakes. Timing should’ve been a week, max and suddenly it’s been 2? Grammatical errors… I got barely to 17% and was over it. The book is extremely long for what it is and like another reviewer stated, it reads like one of those books where you pay by the chapter.

It could’ve been a good book if thing were cut out and condensed.

DNF.
