A killer who is willing to eliminate anyone that might know the secret.
A homicide department who has bodies piling up.
Justine Summers is a woman devoted to getting justice for her murdered son. It has taken a couple of years, but finally she’s able to see the light at the end of the tunnel. But just as things seem to be coming together, bad things start to happen. Someone has made her a target.
Homicide Sergeant Jack Cortez’s cases never seem to end. There is always a homicide and there’s always a notification. He’s delivered many death notifications in his career, but none have stayed with him like Justine Summers has. Two years later, the red head with the dull, vacant, blue eyes that have plagued him since that morning, walks back into his life.
Now bodies are piling up and Jack must figure out if they are related to the trouble that’s chasing Justine or is someone using this shattered justice to acquire revenge? With the attempts on Justine’s life getting more dangerous, will they be able to uncover the truth in time?
I’m new to the writing world. I have lived in many places throughout my life growing up. I’m from a military family and always enjoyed seeing new places, but making friends was always hard, so I would get lost in my books, especially thrillers, with mystery-suspense. After a family tragedy, I decided to take my therapist's advice and jot down everything I was feeling, and before I knew it, I found myself writing a story. With the help and encouragement of others, I turned my love of reading into writing mystery-suspense stories.
This could have been a very good book. Interesting story, likable characters, lots of suspense. If Only. The dialog read like a police report. Phone calls and texts were bolded and even included greetings and closings. AND, to beat all, it's a serial, ending with a cliffhanger. Grrr.
I liked the plot of the series and the characters, but the writing style was a bit stilted. I wasn't drawn into this book, it felt more like I was reading a police report.
This is the first book I have read from this writer. I was hooked from beginning to end. It is a gripping mystery that will have you turning the page to see who did what and how they are going to come out in the end. Justine just lost her son, but she doesn't understand what happened. The day of sentencing for the person that was involved in her son's death changes everything for Justine. Her life becomes one incident after another. Is someone trying to kill her or keep her from the truth? It was a solid book from beginning to end. Justine is a character you absolutely fall in love with. Her story is gripping with many different twists and turns. I absolutely love how many twists and turns there are in this storyline. Stephanie is a great writer, and this book shows that off. But be warned this is a cliff hanger. You will want to read the next one in the series immediately to see what happens to Justine and her family.
Mystery, intrigue, suspense, who-done-it? This book has all this and more. This author's attention to detail will have you in the middle of a scene. You may be on the street, looking from house to house, wondering who's watching and begging to know their identity. You'll be trying to connect the dots right along with the homicide detectives. Wonderful, believable characters. Some you'll like, some you'll loathe and some you'll want to protect with everything in you. Superbly written and an ending I didn't see coming. So well written, I can't believe this is a first for this author.
Very unbelievable, and so over the top, it was hard to finish. The fact that the real killer isn’t revealed, meaning I have to read the next in the series if I want to know the final outcome. The authors writing style is very elementary and her over use of certain words was irritating. Such as: chuckled and do not instead of don’t. It was a quick read but not very satisfying and no big twists and turns.
I really enjoyed the plot of this book - the story was awesome. I liked basically reading two stories. The mystery and crime side of it and the romance side story. Even though the culprit seemed obvious. I wanted more of a twist and turn. But when I realized there was another person involved, I was right back in it. The writing style wasn’t my favorite. It felt really overly detailed in a lot of places that it didn’t need to be. I’ll continue reading the series because I liked it enough to want to know what happens next. Can’t stand a cliffhanger!
So much heartbreak and heart pounding moments. Definitely full of mystery and suspense. Just when you think you have it figured out, there's another twist. I can't wait for the next book
Definitely was not expecting the outcome to the end of Book 1 of the series. Loved how it kept me on edge and kinda felt like I was an investigator trying to figure it out. Definitely recommend it. Can’t wait to read Book 2
Very well crafted tale of murder and mayhem. So much happening and so many twists and turns. The characters are well developed and likable. However I did not like the way the story ended. Guess I'll just have to read the next book!
Good hook, definitely got my attention and kept me into it. Interesting twist and leaves you with more questions than answers. Some of the characters were underdeveloped and there were parts that were detailed for no reason.
Wow, just wow. I went into this book blind and being the first book I have read from this author and just wow. Way better than some reviews I have read. I can’t wait to read the second book!
Love triangle✅ I just don’t know which MMC I like more.
Not a good book. Tried to give a small author a go but NOPE. Why was the main character hypersexualized in a true crime who done it book? The random smut comments were so unnecessary. The plot and the writing were not it for me. Too many characters too.
The storyline itself could have been good, but the book was written so poorly that I struggled to get through. If you’re on the fence, save your time and money and read something else.
