Okay, so here's the thing. I think this book works really well if you think of it, and the entire series, as one long book as opposed to separate ones. The main characters from the last books Jared and Kelsey are back in this but not the main focus which falls to Thea and Marcus.
At the end of the first book, Jared and Kelsey have mated but have not yet found the letter telling them their lives are in danger from Marcus who came form another time. They find that letter at the beginning of this one. But it's more complicated because the Marcus from another time didn't just come from the future he had come from a parallel universe where things are quite different. However, ever since he showed up (and died in the first book) the people in the character's universe are having visions of their other selves. One of the things that happened in the other universe was that Thea and Marcus had a sexual relationship. In that case, neither of them were good people. Marcus because of his obsession with Kelsey and Thea because she never got over he love for Jared. That isn't the case here. The two clearly love each other but fight it because Marcus is a servant protector (not something she minds but he does) for the royal family sworn to stay away from romance because of his potential to harm a mate with his empathic abilities.
Also involved in this is Scott, Jared's best friend and general, who after an attempt to use the machine that moves time and also acts as a weapon, is captured by the United State Airforce. There, he meets and is interrogated by a linguist named Hope who is almost entirely blind from diabetes. In a dream, the two see visions of themselves in the other universe where they were husband and wife, she could see, and she was pregnant--something she can't do in this universe.
War breaks out because Jared's group and the other aliens on earth. We find out that the other aliens are stealing human bodies because theres were taken by a virus that nearly killed them. Scott is the son of two aliens who stole human bodies. This makes him angry and that is why he is fighting with Jared to protect the humans.
Marcus is also secretly the bastard son of Jared's father and therefore shares Thea's multi layered life having many forms although he isn't initially aware of this.
This book is sooo good. The whole series is totally different from anything I've read. Even Thea, who I didn't like in book 1, I loved here.
Great book. So far great series.

It hasn't been long since I read book 1 thankfully. This book picks up right where it left off, and while I was prepared for the parallel time line it still took some time to get used to. This book focuses on Marco & Thea...as well as Jared and Kelsey...and Scott and Hope. It was actually a lot of intertwined but singularly important plot lines that were quite involved. I am enjoying the series, but when I am splitting my time focusing on so many plot lines I feel like I might be missing something.
The world of the Midnight Warriors is highly original. Two alien races, hiding out on earth. One is here to protect earth from the other. That is a rather simplified summary. But this creative setting provides enough fodder for several interesting story lines within the series. There is romance and action galore. I have gotten two books into this series and I am now invested in these characters. I plan to read the rest of the series!
I loved to see the pair in two dimensions. They weren't good in the parallel dimension. Their love story was a destructive one. It was nice to see the difference in the current one. I do wish that the book had more focus on the mcs without the pov from the characters of the previous and the next book in the series. It reduced the enjoyment. Marco and Theo's storyline was great on its own and it deserved the entire book.
This is a series that MUST be read in order! The twists and turns had my head spinning (in a good way). I kept having to rewind my book because if I wasn't 100% focused, I missed something. I always enjoy with the characters from the prior books are included into the story line. One thing I didn't enjoy was how long it took for them to mate. Something ALWAYS stopped him which was very frustrating for me, and I'm not even involved! Despite this, a great book narrated wonderfully.
This book is the second in a series. It is about a warrior and royal guardian in an alien species that is trying to save Earth from a hostile species. This story has some time travel elements to it where the main characters met in an alternate universe. Then they get together in the "reality" of the story and try to make sense of their forbidden passion.
The continuation of the characters from the first book is nice. The theme is similar but too many plots lines. Yes, they all intersect and have something to do with each other but just too much. The main focus should have been on marco a bit more and it would have been nice to have it set in different part. Overall enjoyable.
Unlike most books in the romance genre this series keeps up with the characters from the previous books. I was actually very dissapointed when I started the book thinking that there would be no more of Jared and Kelsey. I was mistaken! This book was just as good as the first, absolutely loved it!
I am so glad I started reading this series. The characters are well done, and you just want the best for them. There is love, war, rebels, earth, alien species, and traditions, abilities....yup there is a lot packed in. If you haven't read it yet start with book one.
