If I am not wrong then we have more than 5-6 books on Ashoka & his secret cult, we have more than 10 books on Kalki avatar. That doesn't mean we are done with the subject/genre, we keep looking out for more books on those topics. Among the books we have seen, "The Last Avatar" is the first book we encountered which is an amalgamation of Kalki and Secret cult of Ashoka. So we were bound to get this book. Frankly speaking, leave aside plot, we were thoroughly impressed by just cover art. We belonged to a group of bookworms who still select 70-80% books by its cover and title. So that is the story of how the book landed in our hand.

Coming to the story part, our protagonists are Neel known as Kalki a shadow warrior, a savior of modern India, and Nushen known as the goddess of China, born as an experiment, hardcore war-machine, genetical superior human. In near future, where advancement was spread in all field, a terrorist group, Invisible Hand, wanted to enslave the whole world under their knees. They had expanded their roots in almost all countries. They possessed some deadly knowledge stolen from an ancient cult and it's scripture. They wanted to capture something called "War Chest of God". The book started with a semi-chaotic situation of global politics. China was being ruled by a maniac & puppet of Invisible hand. Name of the maniac was Jian, who followed the principal of Genghis Khan. Possible threats to his plan were Kalki & Nushen, who ran away from his clutches the moment he came to the ruling position in China. Read the book to know more.

You might think why I am talking about the only antagonist, well I want to give vibes of interest & challenges that protagonist going to face. You can say that I am deliberately hiding the protagonist. :)

Coming to my take on the book
1) Awesome imagination - Be it the technology of drones, nuke shield, Ashtra group or Rudra
2) A sure-shot page-turner - The book is packed with action, thriller & technology
3) Amalgamation of mythology, technology, and war thriller. A unique combination
4) Character building - Be it Kalki (Neel), Nushen or Jian. A proper thought process & psychological support is provided
5) Easy to follow language & straight narration style
6) An ideal pick for 16+
7) The chemistry between Kalki & Nushen. And Neel & Arya
Recommended for readers who explore Indian authors. An action-packed thriller based multi-genre concepts.

0.5 stars!

I received a paid-for copy of The Last Avatar from Vishwas Mudagal's marketing team in exchange for an honest review, and would like to thank the author and his team for reaching out to me and giving me a chance to read this book.

I normally don't read Indian fiction because my first (and understandably last) experience with the genre was when I read Chetan Bhagat's Five Point Someone. Over time, I've read excerpts from books of Amish and other Indian fantasy authors, and I've never been particularly fond of the general writing style. I was in two minds about picking this book up initially. The blurb of The Last Avatar, though, was intriguing and a bit strange. When I saw that it was published by Harper Collins India, I figured, "Why not?"

I also thought the book would be a good point to drop my reservations about Indian fiction, and maybe enjoy the evolving fantasy mythology genre and work that's available from a growing set of authors. Let's start with saying, "That definitely did not happen."

Genre: Indian fiction, Fantasy, Mythology

Length: 328 pages

Overall Rating: 1 out of 10

Plot: 2 out of 10

Characterization: 1 out of 10

Primary Element: 1 out of 10 for its action and suspense

Writing Style: 0.5 out of 10

Part of a Series: Yes; this is Book 1.

Highlighted Takeaway:
The ending... because it allowed the book to finally end, and me to be done with it.

What I Liked:
Nothing.

What I Didn’t Like:
I'm just going to jot down a quick list here.
The writing style - it was terribly amateur in style and needed a lot more work to even get the basic emotion across.
The dialog - inane, unrealistic, and inconsistent.
Narration - the book does not give you any sense of visualization; it just seems to go on and on, failing to evoke any emotion whatsoever.
Story - the story goes on and on about how Kalki is India's savior but does not offer a single example of what he may have done in the past.
Plot - weak and convenient, and highly unrealistic even for a fantasy.
Characterization - Kalki talks and behaves the same way at ages five, ten, fifteen, and whatever age he's finally at; all other characters are one-dimensional. You could actually replace one for the other and not notice the difference.
Pandering - random romance scenes that come out of nowhere and serve little purpose, as though added just to titillate (doesn't succeed in doing so).
So many errors! - syntax errors, grammar errors, incorrect words being used, and lack of continuity such as beards being shaved then reappearing overnight at full length (I mean, seriously?).

Who Should Read It:
I honestly would not recommend this to anyone. Maybe if you're a die-hard fan of everything Indian mythology fantasy, you could give it a shot.

Who Should Avoid:
Anyone who actually enjoys reading books because they can pull you in and stories can be absorbing. The Last Avatar is too dull to do any of that.

Read It For:
... or don't.

I genuinely wanted to like The Last Avatar but, unfortunately, just couldn't (and I tried very hard to like it). I will definitely not be reading the rest of the trilogy (or howmanyeverbooks-ology) or any works of this author again.

The book is the first in the trilogy of The Last Avatar- Age of Kalki by Vishwas Mudagal

It starts off with the death of Professor Haridas and his colleague at the hands of The Invisible Hand who are after the Scripture of Gods. Just as the villains manage to get their hands on it, they are confronted by the mighty futuristic Vanaroid who arrives just in time to take charge of the situation.

Meanwhile, the man known as Kalki, the valiant Indian Crusader is missing in action. Rumor has it that he has been kidnapped by the Invisible Hand, the militant outfit out to prove their supremacy and bring the entire world down rendering it to slavery. Needless to say, there is chaos, doubt, and panic throughout; especially when General Jian, the rogue son of the Chinese President Wang proves their superior nuclear and defense technology in the most unbelievable manner.

President Wang sends his biggest asset Nushen, their superhuman spy on a mission to meet Kalki and handle the situation before Jian wrecks more havoc. Soon Nushen and Kalki are involved in a cat and mouse game escaping from the vicious General Jian who has taken control of the Country with the help of Zar, head of the Invisible Hand.
General Jian and the Invisible Hand spread devastation setting off bombs throughout the world. Getting their minions in place, they work towards ushering in Militancy and Dictatorship beginning with their friendly and not so friendly neighbors- Pakistan and India.

Just when all seems lost, Kalki ventures forth from a deserted village in Ladakh standing tall with the National flag against the Chinese Army and the Invisible Hand. Does this lone vigilante survive their vicious attack or does he succumb to pain and eventual death? Read and find out for yourself.

This is another one in the growing mythological mysteries which seem to be ever popular these days. Simply written with a bit of back and forth regarding the back stories of Neel aka Kalki and NuShen- one of the Homo Supernus.
Overall I found it pretty interesting and really looking forward to reading the following books in the series.

Vishwas Mudagal’s 'The Last Avatar' is a whirlwind of a book that grabs you from the very first page and doesn’t let go. If you're looking for a fast-paced, action-packed thriller that blends ancient Indian mythology with cutting-edge technology, this is the book for you. It's an ambitious and exhilarating start to the 'Age of Kalki' series and a real treat for fans of authors like Dan Brown or Amish Tripathi.

The story wastes no time in establishing its high-stakes premise. The protagonist, Kalki, is a modern-day figure thrust into a conflict of cosmic proportions. Vishwas expertly weaves together a narrative that feels both global in its scope and deeply rooted in Indian lore. The premise of an ancient prophecy coming to life in our contemporary world is a strong one and the author executes it with a sense of urgency that keeps the pages turning at a blistering pace.

What I particularly enjoyed was the book's relentless energy. The action sequences are well-choreographed and vivid, making you feel like you're right there in the middle of the chaos. From high-speed chases to intense combat scenes, the book is a cinematic experience. This is a story driven by plot and Vishwas is a master of the cliffhanger, ending almost every chapter with a hook that makes it nearly impossible to put the book down.

The characters, while not the primary focus of this plot-driven thriller are compelling enough to keep you invested. Kalki is a classic reluctant hero and his journey of self-discovery is intriguing. The supporting cast, from his allies to the shadowy antagonists are well-defined and serve their roles effectively. My only minor critique would be that, at times, I wished for a bit more depth and development but in a book moving this quickly, the focus is clearly on momentum and forward progression.

One of the book's greatest strengths is its unique fusion of genres. Vishwas takes the timeless concept of the Kalki Avatar and presents it in a fresh, modern context. The way he integrates futuristic technology, secret societies and ancient prophecies is both clever and original. This isn't just a mythology retelling; it's a high-tech reimagining that feels incredibly relevant.

While the prose is straightforward and functional, serving the purpose of driving the plot forward, it's the pacing that is the true star here. The book is an adrenaline rush, a thrilling ride from start to finish. If you're a reader who gets easily bored, this book is the perfect antidote.

This book is a must-read for anyone who loves fast-paced thrillers, action and stories with a mythological twist. It's a gripping and entertaining read that promises an epic series to follow. I’m already looking forward to the next installment to see where this incredible journey takes Kalki next. Highly recommended for a weekend binge-read!

I know about the Kalki avatar since my childhood as my grandmother used to tell bedtime stories about how one avatar of Vishnu is still left. He will come on the earth as human and end the “Kalyug” but since childhood I imagined him as mythological human like our ancient Gods wearing traditional clothes and jewelleries but now today after reading this book I realised that my concept was partially wrong, if we are living in Kaliyug then he will be among us. Wearing and behaving same as today’s humans. The story is in the not-so-distant future, the protagonist of the story is Neel, as called Kalki. Kalki is the head of Astras group who supplied modern weapons to the Indian defence force. The book starts with the possibility of kidnapping the Neel and a terrorist group is planning for nuclear attack on the major cities and a city of China is first of it. There is also mysterious Vanar or ape looking creature like Lord Hanuman that shows up to save the mankind from this terror attack.
If we take generally, it has a unique concept. Different than I expected. Some parts reminded movie the iron man. I loved the cover design. The good use of vocabulary and language has been done by the author. During the whole time, I felt like I was watching a nice movie. The book is filled up with lots of twists and turns. I am eagerly waiting for the next part. A good one indeed.

In the future, a terrorist organization called the Invisible hand has killed the entire Indian cabinet along with the PM, and left the country in tatters. With the organization striking at will across the nation, there is complete chaos. With war looming with neighbouring Pakistan, and a shadowy individual called Kalki, who has served the nation , missing, India looks to be buried under.

Kalki is discovered to be in a Chinese prizon, tortured for information. Will the mystery man make it out and save the nation. Read on, book 1 which sets up a futuristic plot liberally peppered with mythological references to our ancient advancement and how it saves the day.

The Last Avatar: Age of Kalki 1
.
Author- Vishwas Mudagal
Publisher - HarperCollins
.
Let's talk about cover first. Wow! What a cover. Anyone can fall in love with the cover. It is so eye catching and impressive. But, the book gives more goosebumps than the cover.

The mythology book's are available have different stories. Kalki topic is Always my favorite topic. I have read almost all books based on kalki. Believe me this is top of all the kalki books.
.
The starting of the book is little bit boring. You may stop reading at starting but, after few pages the book gets speed and you will definitely get engage in reading. Villain are the main reason why books become so interesting to read.

The technological knowledge of author is damn good. One character named "vanaroid" that will keep you hooked. There are so many technological terms are used and so relatable. U may feel like this is a superhuman book than mythology read.
.
The characters are well developed and described. Our protagonist kalki is on the Mission to save earth from villains. Perfect balance of science and mythology. The language is very simple and easy to understand.

Vanar sena in scientific way, last chapter, varaniod are one of the best part of book. Believe me this will take your imagination to next level.

After reading this I'm desperate to read the second part of the book. End of the book is damn amazing. I feel like I'm living every character in future. Kudos to author.

Will definitely recommend to each person who loves mythology and science fiction.

I would rate this 4.3

The last Avatar

What does it mean to be reborn? It won’t be my life anymore. It would be someone else's life. Everyone only gets to live their life one time. Its right here, living in the present. What happens when a person who lives peacefully for his entire life & has everything he needs but loses all in the blink of an eye? What does life hold for him? What meaning can he instill to his pathetic state of life?

I had these thoughts while reading this book. The flow of story is smooth & something worth reading.
Cover is beautiful, the picturesque is transient. It has been cleverly designed making it attractive for readers.
Title is really good & captivating, the avatar of Lord Vishnu as ‘Kalki’ who would bring justice, slaying all evil & bringing a new light of dharma (righteousness) for mankind.
Theme includes love, hate, friendship, sacrifice, bond, relationship, family, friends, trust, betrayal, belief, gain, loss, victory, joy and many other aspects keeping the reader engaged. The fight of dharma against adharma, good vs bad, right vs wrong, righteous vs evil has been elaborated precisely.

The central character is oblivious of the immense strength he had since childhood, that’s bestowed upon him by gods as a gift to become the avatar who will save the world from plunging into chaos in the hands of evil & the underlying potential that lies dormant within him only to be awakened with proper guidance & relentless training.
Many unseen weaponry, armors, talismans, arsenals have been described clearly in the book making it a sophisticated read for the readers.

Precarious as things may seem to be, being a mythological reader & lover, I loved the way how history & mythology has been presented & it’s a spot on for everyone. The amount of research done which related to every nook & cranny of India, describing the various tribes that lived during ancient times is worth commending upon. It has been Infused with the epics of Hindu religion.

“Some relationships go beyond blood. Friends help each other no matter what consequence that fate has in store for them.”
Characterization has been done well.
Language is good, simple & keeps the reader curious till the end. Narration is okay. A really good book, worth reading, awaiting the sequel anxiously!

Amazing book. Haven't quite read many Indian mythological books, but really liked this one. The technological or sci-fi aspects of the book were really interesting. And sure to add that it was a thriller and makes you want to read further. All characters are presented or described very well. The way The Rudras were involved in this was good. The bond he (Neel Digvijay Kalki) has created with many people whom he considered close to him in the book was developed or shown very well. Nushen's character is a strong female character and goes well with the story . Overall it was a nice, engaging read.

I sat in the flight for the first time just 4 years back and post that I had the experience of flying for 8 times. I saw people reading and working on their laptops but I loved watching the world from feet above through my window seat. I used to think how these people end up reading something when they can also enjoy clouds like me. Last weekend, I had gone to Delhi from Mumbai due to some assignment and because of having books at my end pending for reviews, I thought of finally reading in the flight and utilizing the 2 hours in the sky. I picked up “The Last Avatar: Age of Kalki 1” written by one of my favourite authors, Vishwas Mudagal, and I would like to thank the author for making my flying experience better than all the flights I had before.

I must say that since I read his 1st book, I was waiting for his 2nd book desperately and seeing a book from an altogether different theme surprised me. Vishwas is an entrepreneur in the technological space and I never knew he possessed interest in history and mythology. The book is all about the blend between his domain expertise of technology with history, mythology and even future. There are many books which have been written on the concept of the Last Avatar of Lord Vishnu, Kalki who shall come on Earth whenever needed on the planet but I must say this is the easiest book written till date which shall let you enjoy this book lightly without getting too much confused between timelines, characters, situations, fantastical world etc.

The book starts with an unwarranted nuclear test that China conducts which shocks everyone in the world. The case gets escalated right up till President of USA. Later on, book discusses how there is difference of opinions even within China where the Government is not happy with what a person has done just for his personal satisfaction. Finally, we get introduced with characters- Shen and Nushen who belongs to Homo Supernus because of which they have some extra super-powers than human beings. Nushen, throughout the storyline of the book becomes my favourite because of the way she supports Neel, who is believed to be the next avatar of Vishnu- Kalki.

The chemistry of Nushen and Neel is so wonderfully described that the whole segment when they run away from China’s capture is entertaining and chilling to read. The flashback of Neel with Arya and Tiger is also an interesting read. The secret that gets unveiled with that backstory has another big part to play in the book. The character of Jian who is basically the antagonist of this book is mentioned as someone having immense power to make the nuclear test at his will, capture anyone from anywhere, make famous Chinese actress his slave under his recluse. The segments where his difficult decisions etc. are narrated are also described in a great manner as you can feel his strength, horribleness, hatred, divisiveness, lustiness, betrayal etc. The characterization of each and every character is done with perfectness as you can completely imagine how they look and what they are like.

I liked how author manages to discuss something as complex as concept of secret society named The Rudras so easily making it understandable to everyone. The author also manages to discuss something as terrorising as ISIS in the form of terrorist group- Invisible Hand in the book which manages to attack the Indian Parliament having the top ministers in the building at the time of bombing. Talking about the climax, this is one of the best climaxes I have read from books that still have parts to go for the story to end. This book ends with something which doesn’t let this part of book feel as incomplete but yet makes you thrilled and desperate for the further part of the tale.

Closing the review, I must talk about the cover page which has this larger-than-life sci-fi version of Lord Hanuman’s image. The cover page because of this looks spectacular and makes the reader astonished as to how Lord Hanuman is related with the last avatar of Kalki but I must tell you, this is not just an image made for cover concept but is also the base of the war in the story. Do read this book to find out about it and Vanar Sena’s importance. I give this book 4.75* out of 5 for the incredible writing, flawless narration, seamless execution of complex concepts, action-packed scenes explained with words that helps you in imagining everything in front of your eyes easily and with all of this, still assuring that the book discusses above love and relationships incessantly. Kudos!

Thanks.

I have read many books on the last avatar of Vishnu, Kalki but the thirst to read more will never satisfied. The book cover is an instant attraction, a humanoid robot in the form of Lord Hanuman; doesn’t it look like a picture straight from a sci-fi movie? India is currently going through with the lots of turmoil and this book is written around this.

Plot summary:

Kalki, a messiah of India is under the captive of Jian, a tyranny leader of China. Jian strongly believes the ideology of Genghis Khan and want to make the whole world slave. Invisible hand, a terrorist group shares the same ideology and they both have a sinister plan.

China has an advanced human, Nushen which they have created in the lab. Nushen is considered as a daughter of China and she opposes Jian’s idea and because of this, she is his biggest enemy.

On one unfortunate day, the whole Indian Parliament collapsed in the ground killing every leader of the country. This was a well-planned execution of Invisible hand and China. Now the country is in chaos, there is no one to govern and run the country and due to this country has become vulnerable.

People wanted Kalki back but everyone believes that he is no more. During this, event changes and Nushen and Kalki run from the clutches of Jian.

In between, we get a glimpse of the tragic life of Kalki, his true identity and how he becomes the savior of the nation. Nushen’s story also runs parallel and we get to know more about her.

Another important aspect of this story is of the secret society called ‘Rudras’ who works underground and ensures the country’s safety.

India is on the verge of destruction, terrorism, and Jian is winning and people want an avatar to make everything right. Will Kalki rise again? Will he be able to protect his country from the evils? Where are the Rudras? What will be the fate of this holy country? Read this book to know more.

Writing style:

Start to end this book won in narration, it is super captivating. The language is super easy making it suitable for every type of readers. The technical aspects are also perfectly described by the author.

My perception:

When I saw the words ‘to be continued’ I was like no this book can’t end, I want to know what is going to happen. The author’s great imagination is the backbone of this book, each and every concept mentioned in the book has been derived from thorough research. I have read many books on the last avatar of Kalki, but this recreation is one of the bests. The story starts interestingly and ends at the edge. The storyline is just superb, the way the author has included political, historical and mythological concept is simply wow. I am so glad that I got a chance to read this amazing book. Jian, Nushen, Kalki and other characters are very well developed and help to progress the story in an intrigued way. I really want to see this story in the movie adaption.

Super imaginative, highly researched and well narrated this book is a package of adventure, mystery, and hope. Do not forget to add this in your wish list!

This is a novel which would be close to my heart as it has the fusion of myth and technology. Firstly, I was impressed with the cover - which shows the mighty Hanuman, the Vanara God in a Sci-Fi format. Hats off to the creative team who has designed this. The cover page has evoked interest as sn as I saw it. Then the title - "The Last Avatar : Age of Kalki I". As per the Hindu mythology, Lord Vishnu is believed to come back to Earth in the form called "Kalki" when there is a spurt in the misdeeds, treachery, corruption, scam and other unwanted things.

Coming to the story. The story revolves around the protagonist Neel who is also known as Kalki. He heads the Astra Group which manufactures some out of the world technological equipment which were way ahead of his period. He was also known to have mastered so many arts which makes him near invincible. This is proved when he gets captured by the Chinese Intelligence Agency wherein despite of being tortured for weeks and being injected with truth serum, he never utters a word. He also seems to have recovered three times faster than a normal human being when he was being hit.

Is he the reincarnation of Lord Vishnu?

The author has touched upon geo-political situation and has introduced a terrifying character called Master Zar who runs the terror outfit called Invisible Hand and has weaved a story as to how it join hands with few others to bring the world to their knees.

There was another major incident which happens in India where the entire Parliament gets blown up which kills all the MP's in one go including the Prime Minister and Ajay Pradhan becomes the Head of Indian High Command(IHC) which along with Army General and Head of Navy and Air Force along with the IAS officers starts administering the Country.

General Jian revolts against his father Wang and leads a coup to capture the power. He wanted to capture Shen and Nushen who were known as Homo Supernus who is believed to have some super powers.

Were they Humans or Aliens?

Then there was this secret place called Shambala which is believed to be protecting the scriptures of God which were safe guarded by Rudras.

The story revolves around various places and characters and there was a flashback for Neel which was not a good one to recall/remember for him.

What I liked the most are the final two chapters.

Yes. Neel challenges the mighty Chinese Army all by himself in the border and when India was about to surrender its border, something unexpected happens.

What was it?

The climax (which isn't the end of the novel) is surreal and it would make anyone who reads it to wait eagerly for the release of the sequel. I am no exception.

Why should one read this?🤓
If you thing this book is religion based you are completely wrong!!!
If you are someone who loves reading fictional, one man against the bad, war kinda works then this is a must go!!!

About the book📑
The story takes place in not so distant tech advanced future in India (Now look at Lord Hanuman's Cover Pic carefully😅). World is on edge with China being powerful and General Jian and Master Zar with his troop "Invinsible hand" is on run to ruin and dominate the world and following the paths of Late Genghis Khan(For more Google). Here is where Neel Digvijay Kalki comes in (In Hindu Mythology it is believed that Kalki will be the 10th and last avtar of God.He along with his troop Astras and with Chinese Super human Nushen(translates to Goddess) and her assists will do their best to save the earth from darkness.

What I liked about the book
I loved the way how author has thought about the possibilities of Him being a mortal soldier struggling throughout his life but still has the strength to stand on his own feet and save his mother land.
I loved how the knowledge of "Scriptures of God" is used in this brilliantly and also the possiblity of it being hidden somewhere.
I liked the part where author portrait comradeship between Neel and Chinese SuperHuman (Homo Supernus) Nushen (China being portrait as an enemy nation and also the nation that tortured him).
Character that I loved and hated at the same time : General Ramsey.
I loved Varanoid's humor specially when he played "Jai Jai bajrang Bal, tod de dushman ki nali" and brought humor in.
Speaking of which I loved how author as brought slight humor with General Ramsey and Varanoid in the war based story.
I also loved how he questioned if India would be able to follow the Non alignment moment given the similar condition in the distant future.

Questions for sequel
Neel Digvijay Kalaki.. maybe the last avtar of God or not.But the question is will he be able to remove darkness off the world?
Who are these Rudras what can they possibly do to save the world with the knowledge of "Scriptures of GOD"?
How much and how can Nushen help Neel out ?
How are the mighty Varanoids assisting Neel?

Name- The Last Avatar: Age of Kalki 1
Written By- Vishwas Mudagal
Published By- HarperCollins
Pages- 312
Review-
It is written in our hindu mythology which explains or rather promises that whenever there is decay of righteousness in our world, Lord Vishnu himself would descend to set things right. While we know about the different avatars of Lord Vishnu, the most speculated avatar is the one who is yet to make his mark. Kalki, the tenth avatar, the destroyer of evils.
I have read several of references to Kalki in various fictions and non fiction books. Some defining his almighty abilities while others who depicted his character differently.
Mudagal, in his book chose to present the most speculated avatar in a human form. A common man who isn't really normal. Neel is Kalki, or rather his last name is Kalki. But is he The Kalki? The one we all have been waiting for?
Neel lives in the near future where technology has developed beyond imagination and where China, has slowly developed into a super power. Neel is captured by an ancient shadow organisation who wants to eliminate him and his group. In this struggle of power the entire world moves towards perils and Neel tries to restore the peace with the help of the super human Chinese spy, Nushen.
While Kalki is believed to the saviour of the entire world, the author focuses on Neel's patriotic side and his love for his country.
This book is indeed a mixture of mythology, progressive science and technology and also patriotism.
Though there where a few places where I believed the author stressed too much on Neel's ability while showing him a normal man doing the unspeakable.
The plot sometimes ran fast and sometimes extremely slow while I would have preferred a moderate pace.
Other than this I loved the author's concept and visions.
People have tried to predict the tenth avatar of Lord Vishnu since the beginning of Kali yug, and among this Mudagal's representation of Kalki is not only different but also refreshing.
I believed the book would be an enjoyable read for every reader.

Book : The Last Avatar (Age of Kalki-1)
Author : Vishwas Mudagal
Publisher : Harper Collins India
Genre : Mythology/Sci-Fi/Fantasy

In the near future, a terrorist organization kills the entire Indian cabinet along with the PM by a groundbreaking technology, and left the country in shreds. India has this masked hero and our protagonist Kalki who is on top of the killing list of this extremely dangerous mad general. In addition to that China tests it's newly invented breakthrough technology that trembles the world. In exceptional circumstances Kalki meets Nushen of China. Not gonna spoil the story anymore as you have to find yourself answers of the questions mentioned. Will Kalki the vigilante be able to save his nation not to mention whole world? What's the purpose of the secret society found in 316 BC? Will the entire world face the next world war?

Review : In mythological fiction the topic of Kalki is used more in the last decade. I have read mostly all the books from the topic but trust me I can put this one in the top three. Super humans, Dictator, Terrorists, Spy, Scriptures of God, Mecha and Secret society. History, Patriotism, Politics, Sci-fi, Fantasy and Mythology. The reader will find all above mentioned leitmotifs in the plot. The characterization of malefactor is as important as of the protagonist which is balanced and portrayed here effectively by our well talented author. The captivating title attracts reader. The cover is meticulous and well judges the story. After the first few pages the story gets intriguing and gets the speed. The backstories of main characters are expressed in detail by the author. Though main characters sounds unrealistic and some scenes are unfeasible but that's what makes this genre enjoyable right?

Being fan of this genre I enjoyed this book quite a lot and would definitely recommend it to everyone. Waiting for the sequel.

The Invisible hand, the most barbaric terrorist group was planning a heinous attack against the world, majorly focusing on India, New York, United Kingdom et cetera. Master Zar, the leader of this group got backing from one of the most powerful person of China named General Jian. Being the second son of Wang, who is also the President of China, he didn't get power and responsibilities at the first place which made him choosed the other side i.e urge for destruction and immense control over the world.

The protagonist Neel Kalki lost his entire family at an early age. Brought up and taken care by his grandfather General Ramsay, he was admitted to an army school where he learned all qualities of a true warrior. There he was introduced to the Rudras society, the protector of "Scripture of Gods". Later along with his friends Arya and Tiger, he has created an enigmatic group named as Aryas whose sole purpose was the protection of indian citizens. He has saved his country umpteen times in the past.

Lately on a very fateful day, whole Parliament was bombed by the terrorist group which lead to death of the president Subash Acharya with all council of members. India was going through the toughest times ever. All eyes were on the Kalki, the masked hero of India. Would he get success in saving his country. Would he unveil the traitors behind the humongous loss ? How would his encounter with Nushen, the Chinese superhuman spy turned out ?

The last avatar by Vishwas Mudagal was written in the background of political conspiracies mixed with social and mythological twist. Not a fan of sci-fi at the first place, i didn't get bored by the storyline. It was plotted in a matter to show the impact of technology on humankind. I liked the concept of Vanaroid, the machine with the face of Lors Hanuman.
Also author tried to bring the facet of power, how it could be used for both cause, good or bad. Policits behind the scene somehow pointed out how the greediness for power and position could lead to sheer destruction of the very foundation. The ending part made me excited about the sequels too. Overall it was a wonderful read.
Happy reading.

|| THE LAST AVATAR ||
by
Vishwas Mudagal
Publisher: Harper Collinsin
Genre: Mythological fiction

" From the ashes of the world, A hero must rise"

KALKI is known as the last avatar of vishnu. I am so obsessed with this particular mythological character & similarly when I see any book about KALKI ,i grab it without any question. So here I am!!

● BLURB WITHOUT SPOILER:
Story is started with a conversation of India's Prime minister. Mandatory to mention that the time is a future era when level of Turmoil in India has raised because of terrorist attacks (invisible hand).

Yes! Even History is the witness.
Everytime, when mankind is in trouble,
A hero, A saviour always take a miracle step . After all this day, Kalki is here! But who is kalki? Wait ! We know who is kalki from the mythological papers! But tell me who is Kalki in this story , the last saviour? Can he save that future India which is not in safe at all? Or will he fade away as an outlaw?

●CHARACTERS: neel, arya, nushen and so on. All characters are bright & well defined.

●ABOUT THE BOOK:

✔Cover of the book clearly explain the mighty power of the story. Title of the book is " The last Avatar: age of kalki" that mentioned the book is about Kalki obviously.

✔ Ok! Plot is mythological indeed but the book has bloomed the story of future which reflects history. Thats a marvellous & interesting combination.

✔in the end the war between neel & Chinese army ( white knights ) takes an vital place in the story .

✔I am awestruck about author's imagination power and how smoothly he blends sll characters with the story. in the end, still many questions are there to be answered. I will eagerly wait for author's next book.

✔writing style is good and some hard words made the reading speed slow. Overall a good experience and recommending to mythological fictional lovers.

The last Avatar Age of Kalki Book 1 by Vishwas Mudagal
🌸Rs 299
🌸Thriller
🌸 HARPER COLLINS
🌸314 PAGES
BLURB-
Set in Kalyug, it's the story of a vigilante Kalki, who is in a dire situation, caught and tortured by Chinese spies. India has fallen, and the world is on the brink of an apocalyptic war. The terrorist organisation Invisible Hands attacked and eliminated the Indian prime minister as well as the whole cabinet. As the nation is declared to be in a state of emergency, Kalki rises to save it. To help him in his quest, is Nushen a Chinese superhuman. Who is Kalki? And what is the last Prophecy? Will he conquer his enemies? Or will he be defeated?
OPINION-
The cover is intriguing. I assumed the story would be mythological as the cover depicts Lord Hanuman but I was proved wrong. The cover is actually a robot which is super amazing. The story is a fusion of Science and mythological and a dystopia future of India. The title is apt but leaves a question as to what predicament awaits the last avatar.
The character development is super strong.
Be it Kalki himself or Nushen or Tiger.
Everyone has their own purpose and no one is an extra.
The plot is unique. There are alot of things happening all at once but it doesn't get confusing even at once. The details are amazing. The secret organisations and the scientific weapons and the technicalities involved are amazingly narrated.
The story is engaging and thrilling. It's a classic good over evil theme and right now evil is winning.
The language is super easy is understand. There are even elements of humour infused in the story.
The prologue and the climax is spot on. The story ends at a cliff hanger and I was like wait did someone tear away the pages???
Eagerly waiting for the next story.

First of all I thought it was a book of mythology genre but turned out to be a fantasy one. (My mistake)
This story is about Kalki a.k.a Neel Digvijay Kalki who is a vigilante trained in a army school (since having a army background).
Kalki (Neel) is one of the Rudras and the owner is Astras which makes futuristic weapons. The first chapter starts with a bang where a robot like creature similar to Lord Hanuman attacks and takes something very important from Professor Haridas and his associate. (No spoilers)
There is a terrorist group called “The Invisible Hand” in China with which the son of Chinese President “General Jian” has ties. Jian does some experiment with an invisible shield covering China. This triggers all the nations to threat.
This also makes Wang, the Chinese president angry and Jian is imprisoned for his actions.
Meanwhile Neel is going through several torture sessions by the Chinese since he has some secret.
.
Will Neel return with a bang?
Well, he has to!
.
Most of the chapters do not have much conflict and even those who have conflicts are mostly predictable.
.
SPOILER ALERT:
There is a scene where the PM is going to be bombed, and we know that he’s going to be. It would have at least been good if the author had created enough nail biting moments to it.
.
And instead of the character being told as a strong person who can just use his fingers to make someone unconscious, he can be put into some tough situations and prove that he can.
.
Definitely the flashback part has some really heart touching stories which makes Neel the man he is now.
.
Plot: 2.5/5
Narration: 4/5
Cover: 4/5
Language: 5/5

Book_Review #35
The Last Avatar (Age of Kalki 1) by Vishwas Mudgal is a wonderfully written science & mythological fiction. The story takes place in 'not-so-distant-future' where India has developed as one of the most powerful nations with their advanced weaponry and gadgets and has also retained some old and new powerful enemies along the way, who will stop at nothing but India's downfall. Author has blended mythology with science-fiction with such perfection that readers are left with awe. Read it for a refreshing and mind blowing fictional story.

Review:
•The cover of the book is so attractive and catchy and goes with the theme. And the title is also so aptly named, bringing the essence of mythology was totally brilliant.
•The plot is well-crafted and skilfully narrated. Beginning was bit slow but rest of the story paced perfectly.
•The characters are powerful and are well placed in the story. Author has taken his sweet time to introduce the real, extraordinary and enigmatic Kalki, and it's worth the wait.
•There is a lot of flashbacks and history in the book but that's understandable as this just part one. Author has successfully created the hype for the future books in the series, and I, for one, cannot wait to read them all.
•Among a lot, my favourite part in the book is when Kalki went live. The narration is so compelling that it gave me chills while reading.
•This book is a treasure for all fiction, mythology and sci-fi lovers.

My Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐/5

When I first read the blurb, I was interested to see how the author will manage to make the avatar of Kalki relevant to today's time and so I picked it up. Let's just say, I didn't find what I was looking for.

Just after reading the prologue, I knew I wouldn't be able to like this book because of how bland the writing was, not to mention full of errors too. I kept reading because I almost never DNF a book but I so wish I could change this habit of mine as this book, for me at least, was a total disaster. The concept of using technology and making an army of Lord Hanuman look alike droids aka Vanaroids was too unrealistic and childish even for a fantasy.

The plot of the book is weak and all over the place with a protagonist who is labeled as a saviour of the planet and yet the readers are never given an insight into his past life or experiences that could make him seem like one. The other characters around the protagonist lacks depth and purpose and deliver poor cringe worthy dialogues.

The narration is monotonous and lacks vivid symbolic imagery. It fails to make the reader connect to this fantasy world the author has created.

Romance has been thrown in for sake of entertainment but feels random and out of place. The only purpose it fulfilled was to drag the book even more.

Mythology needs research and it seems like the author didn't do a lot of it. Not to mention the overuse of technology made the story even more senseless. I wish I could say something that I liked about it but between the errors, one dimensional characters and poor narrative, this one doesn't have any saving grace.

The Last Avatar ( Age of Kalki ) by Vishawas Mudagal

The book was more like a Bollywood movie with a mixture of Real Steel and Men in Black. It is hard to explain but the author would definitely relate to it.

All the jokes aside, the plot of the book is simple. The main character Kalki lost his loved ones to terrorism and war aspired to become a warrior, businessman, spy, and many other things. Kalki was born with certain privileges which differ him from other kids in school. Along with Kalki, Nushen another character which was made in a lab in China to replace soldiers in a war. Nushen ( Goddess in Mandarin ) was superhuman. The fate unites Kalki and Nushen both extremely patriotic and loyal to their country fighting together to save the world from a freak called General Jian. With Jian coming to power in China, the whole world was in chaos. China invented new technologies and a shield which can withstand Nuclear Attack with the help of Scripture of Gods protected by a group called Rudras.

The book was fast-paced and keeps the reader busy. The author did a great job and showed amazing imagination power. However, there is always room for improvement. The book was predictable at certain places. The characters were amazing but somehow fiction should feel like a reality and at some point, it was turning into a fantasy.

Eagerly waiting for the next book

### Buy at a caution if you can hold the excitement for book two. ###

* Jian with a terror group Invisible Hand decides to rule the world. They killed the main administrative heads of India and when the destruction starts to develop the hero Kalki must arise to save the world.
* Will Kalki join hands with Rudras and Nushen, a superpower human to save the world from the attacks and become a living God?
* Look for answers in The Last Avatar, one of the must-read book of the year.

* The praising and success of this book are all because of its simplicity and unusual plot.
* A mythological blend of science fiction with crystal clear narration. It will take us to a new fantasy world with flashing motion pictures while reading.
* All characters Neel, Tiger, Arya, Nushen was equally powerful.
* Technical explanations were truly astonishing, a pure result of research. The Vanaroid description was extraordinary.
* Apart from the thriller, action and mystery, there was pure love and friendship. Pack your bag of emotion to ride on a roller coaster.
* This is my first book on Kalki, so I expected a bit more backdrop about Kalki which was missing.
* "To be continued..." ------No! I want more pages, curious to get my hands on the second book.
* At the end of the book, I came to know its a hard work of 8 years. God! one masterpiece out of it. The idea to pen down such work after huge research is to be highly appreciated.

Book Name: The Last Avatar: Age of Kalki
Author: Vishwas Mugadal
Genre: Mythological fiction
Publisher: Harper Collins
Note: Book one in the series!
.
Plot: In the not-so-distant future, India has fallen, and the world is on the brink of an apocalyptic war. An attack by the terrorist group Invisible Hand has brutally eliminated the Indian Prime Minister and the union cabinet. From the ashes of this falling world, rises an unconventional hero - a vigilante known only as Kalki. Backed by a secret society called The Rudras, Kalki, along with Nushen, the Chinese superhuman spy, must do the impossible to save his country, and the world. .
My Opinion: Guys, I have read alot of books on mythology, but I haven't read any about Vishnu or Kalki yet! So, definitely I was very much excited to get my hands on this book. It's habitual but I never read a blurb & considered it as normal mythological fiction but the book was proving me wrong after every page & I was so much flabbergasted by the storyline & the contents of the book. This is a mythological fiction which is set in future & it was so wow! The book is unique & has additional unique characters, also, here I found a very different definition of Kalki much different from what I have heard so it shows an other side of Kalki which is never revealed. The cover is amazing. I do recommend this book.
.
Pros: Well, after reading the first book in the series, I am so desperate to read the second one because the end of the book was damn amazing. Characters were deeply mentioned & I particularly like the characterisation of Kalki. If you love mythology or even if you don't love you should read to find out what actually Kalki is & knowing him more was such a pleasant pleasure. The writing style was good & I am waiting for next book to arrive soon!
Cons: The book lacked stability sometimes & directly took the reader to unknown places which was the only confusing part! But, definitely everyone should give it a go!

The Last Avatar – Age of Kalki is a mytho-science-fiction that is the first part of a trilogy. It tells the story of Kalki who is supposed to come on this earth and end the evil times or the Kalyug. That it will need human help is obvious and already there is a mysterious hero called Kalki that seems to be doing a good job.
The book opens with a bang—with bombs, rockets and gunfire as a group tries to get their hands on some ancient texts. This also introduces the image on the book cover. He is the real or mythical Kalki in the image of Lord Hanuman, the monkey god and warrior-soldier. Whether he is real, a myth, or a fantasy or really have the gods descended remains to be known. The book then moves to China as we learn of a heinous plot that hope to enslave the entire world with help from the unknown, unseen super villain, The Invisible Hand. The focus is on a simultaneous attack on various countries including India that cripples and causes anarchy.

The characters in The Last Avatar – Age of Kalki are detailed yet mysterious. Even though we are given full details about Neel or Kakli the boy who is seen as a saviour. Arya, the super sleuth who is always on Neel’s mind. Nushen, the goddess who is a bio-engineered human yet there is so much more we wish to know. Gen Jian, the tyrannical leader of China who follows Genghis Khan and aspires to be like him add a realistic yet futuristic feel to the book. I can actually find incidents in real life inspiring the book and that made it an interesting and fast read. General Ramsey, Tiger, Professor Vati, and Prime Minister Acharya, make it a well balanced cast. Even the minor characters make their presence felt.

The Last Avatar – Age of Kalki seamlessly merges the ancient Mythology with futuristic science fiction. The Astras a company that made the drones and gadgets to secure the borders. The Chinese secret labs that make superhumans and the school where Neel and Tiger and Arya study and the various labs make it a futuristic yet believable backdrop for the book. Even though the book is heavily into science and mixes it up with myths and ancient history. It celebrates India with its rich heritage and age-old wisdom and traditions.

The book is a page-turner yet it ends on a cliffhanger. The real Kalki is revealed as are the mythical creature we saw in the opening chapter yet it leaves many more unanswered questions. The final pages have the various ‘Scriptures of the Gods, which were an interesting read and I am sure a prelude to the future adventures in the next book of this series.

The Last Avatar (Age of Kalki #1) by Vishwas Mudagal

Still, The Last Avatar – Age of Kalki leaves the reader wanting more. It is like the tip of the iceberg, I want to know about the enemy, I want to know what happens in China and to the eternal Nushen—that part was a bit of a letdown since this book finished without telling anything about her. There are many questions and the next book is eagerly anticipated.

The book revolves around Neel Kalki a vigilante who comes from a family of armed forces officers. He loses his family at a very young age and learns life lessons the hard way. He grows up to become one of India's bravest protectors. But a betrayal lands him into the hands of the Chinese where he put through unimaginable pain. Meanwhile a terrorist organisation called ‘invisible hand’ is creating a havoc in the world and try to start world war 3 to serve their purpose. Will weekend Kalki be able to save his country let alone the world?
The plot is fast paced and keeps you engaged. The characters are well developed and pull you into their story. The language is good but there are a couple of typos. The author’s writing style is excellent and makes you feel like you are reading a Robert Ludlum Novel. For some reason I found the portions of Kalkis past to be a tad bit boring as compared to the present sections with Nushen. Also the ending felt a bit over dramatic. The cover is so well illustrated that it makes me want to see the Vanaroids in action in a movie. Over all a great book to read if you want to read a well written and plotted action thriller. I am eagerly looking forward to reading the next part. Recommend for the lovers of action/ sci-fi/ thriller genre.

I always wanted to read a mythological book, though it was not my first read of this genre, yet I was as excited as I was for the first book. The title and the book cover drew my attraction and led me to read the book. I really appreciate the effects of the cover designer. Unique.
The world needs the Kalki avatar, he can't come back, but we can take that era back. The book starts with all so amazing scene. I was, at first, not able to understand whatever was happening there, as it was all so sudden, but as soon as the story progressed, I could understand it all and I was liking it too. Nushen, Kalki, Jian were all the well developed characters. The conversation in the book were so living, which made the book interesting. Narration was equally good. The story is not based in India only, but China too. I loved the concept of the secret society 'Rudras'. I could see author's hardwork and research.
The story was a lil bit dramatic, like there were some impossible scenes. But the story tells us that imagination has no limits and humans don't know their limits.
It was a good read, but I could tell more once I read the sequence to this book...

The Last Avatar - Age of Kalki (1): Vishwas Mudagal

Book Cover: 5/5
Book summary: 4/5
Language: 4/5
Content: 4.5/5
Engagement: 5/5

If you are looking for the perfect blend of thrill and suspense with a dash of mythology and modern technological science then this book is what you need to grab next! Right from the beginning the book encapsulates you into a reading spree that gets the pages turning. From AI to weapons, war plans and bot operated missions you have them all. Also, a robotic vanar sena might as well cheer up your day. This book shows how far we’ve comes in the terms of technological science, what our future looks like and how Indian writers have evolved enough to beautifully present complex characters, settings and situations in a way that enchants the reader.
Character development of various characters in the book feels personalized and real. Be it the grandfather-grandson relationship or other sweet moments they always leave you wanting for more. In a way the book exceeds all expectations that one could ever have from a mythological sci-fi book as it is a concept of the West. As I said, this one is a page turner.
The book might appear to start slow however that depends on your personal knowledge about Kalki and what you expect to read. I would like to recommend this book to everyone who is looking for a fresh genre to explore. Also, please make no comparisons between this book and those by Amish, they are totally different!
